Generally, I shy away from leaving reviews on Yelp as the company likes to censor comments which do not jibe with their ideologies, but leftists are known to stymie any speech of which they do not approve. Taureaux Tavern has excellent food, yet is underrated. The forthcoming comments relate to service and operations. While none will keep me from subsequent visits, I view providing such as constructive criticism. First, while neither me nor my dinner companion were visiting for Chicago Restaurant Week, we did ask to see the special menu. Upon doing so, l learned the house offered two soups: French onion and du jour (that particular day it was potato leek). Not sure why the regular menu did not state such because the soup du jour was superb. So, too, was the steak frites, my entrée of the regular menu. Second, the Classic Caesar is massive. Easily a meal itself. And that is a small problem. Knowing each of us also ordered full-size entrees, it would have made sense for the waitress to inform us that these were not "side" salads by any definition. Or TT could also offer a smaller portion. We were paid a friendly visit by one of the managers. She noticed we had way too much food going on, offered to remove one of the salads from the bill, but did not. Last, the infamous surcharge as a consequence of the Wuhan pandemic. We are at the point that such penalty applied for the privilege of dining at a particular establishment is no longer a novelty. Never a fan of government interference, my understanding is the city of Chicago has instituted permission of such levy as long as it is disclosed prior to purchase. The was no mention of 3.25% on either the regular or special menu. It appeared only on the receipt which, unlike much of the competition, offered no proviso about it being removed upon request. Wow !!!!!!! The food and drinks here are to die for. My boyfriend ordered lobster Mac and cheese to die for and first off the plating is really cool, you scoop it out. He said it was honestly the best lobster he's had in his life (pretty big role to fill). I got the French onion soup as an appetizer and geeesh the cheese literally melted in my mouth. Apparently they use different cheeses every week which is a great idea. Our server was awesome and the manager Travis even came over and asked us how everything was. We ended up talking to him for a while and he gave us great recommendations for Chicago. He was amazing! We cannot wait to come back and we recommend this spot to everyone! read more

We absolutely loved this place! The ambiance is great, the food is excellent, and the waitstaff was awesome. We went on a quiet night ("Thanksgiving eve"). Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable about the food, and answered our questions about the menu. Taureaux also paid attention to the little details (e.g., when my husband and I said we would split a salad, it arrived pre-split into two bowls). My husband had the salmon and I ordered the burger. Portions were appropriate and food was divine. We would definitely go back! read more

Booked a business reservation on 11.17 for 8 ppl to dine on 12.10 only for them to call today on 12.06 to say that the only option we had if we wanted to fulfill the reservation was to sit in the bar and pre-order because they now have three private events. Having booked almost a month in advance and to find out the week of was very disappointing. read more

I stopped in a couple of weeks ago with a bunch of my coworkers. We had been excited to check it out for weeks. Some of us got there just before 4pm and were seated immediately. People were straggling in from 4pm-5:15pm or so and the waiter was very accommodating. It helped that the restaurant was fairly empty. An older gentlemen waited on us and he was very attentive. There were about 10-15 of us in total. The drinks were a little pricy and not very good. I had a margarita that was nothing but alcohol. All the drinks were way too strong. My coworker ordered a Moscow mule that was just as strong. Overall, we weren't very impressed with our drinks. (Except for the people who ordered beer) We did like the atmosphere though and it was nice to be able to spread out a bit. All the employees were pleasant and professional. We might give the location another shot just for these reasons. One of my coworkers arrived before everyone else. He cut himself on a piece of metal that was sticking out somewhere near the door handle. He ended up having to go to the hospital and required six stitches to one of his fingers. We didn't find out later that he was injured and had to take an Uber to the emergency room. There was blood on the floor when I walked in though. I remember a staff member telling me to watch out for it as we waited to be seated. The last I heard my coworker said Taureaux management staff was being resistant to helping to pay for his medical bills. Apparently, they didn't believe that he was injured on their property. He said they said he could've cut his finger prior to coming in. Yeah, okay.... who walks around knowingly dripping blood everywhere with a cut so deep that it requires stitches??? Anyway, his first experience with Taureaux ended up being memorable for an unexpected reason. We're all hoping for a much better experience in the future. read more

Chicago is such a big city with so many venues to choose from. Which is why trying to plan a party is so difficult to do. Luckily we came across Taureaux Tavern who made this process so much easier. We knew we had to go with Taureaux after our first meeting with them. They were reliable, helpful, accommodating, and kind. They worked hard to make sure we stayed within our budget and listened to what we wanted. The entire team was remarkable! They made us feel so special. The food and drinks are incredible!!!! My friend almost ate an entire tray of baked goat cheese. Their drinks are so well crafted, there's one for everyone to choose from. They were even amazing enough to create drinks tailored to our event. The space itself is beautiful. They rearranged the furniture in the venue to fit our needs. A lot of our guests really enjoyed the second floor that over looked the first, and we can't forget about their beautiful heated patio! I was shocked at how they transformed Taureaux to fit our event. It was absolutely perfect. We can't say enough how thankful we are for the incredible team at Taureaux. They sat with us for hours and made sure all of our questions were answered, they listened to any concerns we had and offered solutions. We made the best decision hosting our event there. Well, let's add another millennial-ized New American spot to the list. This says French, but it's new American - who are we kidding, it's almost ALL new Marian now. 10/10 for the interior - emerald greens with gold accents and a clean light space perfect for millennials. Outdoors the patio is pretty and has garden boxes of flowers. Bonus points because this place is lifted onto the plaza in front of 425 S Financial so its not actually on the road. 6/10 for food. Portions are extremely large, so seriously consider sharing! Salads come in something that looks more like a serving bowl for a table rather than an individual portion. Sandwiches are huge and the bread is pretty greasy - not healthy but yes it's delicious. Everything is decent but there are no standouts here. 8/10 for service - we came at lunch on a business day and had good service but everything was about 5 min too long of a wait - for water, drinks, food, check, getting the check back - you know when it's not "bad" but it's just taking too long to where you notice and wonder a few times? That was this. Having said that, our server was very kind (even if he did inappropriately try to ply us with alcohol during the workday after we declined). I will return because it's close to work and there are no other quality or decent restaurants in the area, with this kind of setup / interior and patio... but I won't seek this place out when it isn't completely convenient for me. I haven't been this excited about a restaurant opening ever, as I work right across the street, and it somehow exceeded my high expectations! First off, it is gorgeous inside and looks super inviting. They nailed the decor for sure. There is absolutely nothing like it in this part of the loop...An upscale sit-down bar/restaurant that is perfect for lunch and breakfast meetings. As for the food, it is on point. It's simple but delicious. They aren't trying to do too much with the menu, which makes it the type of place you can go to multiple times a week without getting sick of it. I had the burger, which was outstanding. I'm not a huge fan of fries, and usually it's pretty easy for me to lay off of them for the old waistline, but not this time. So, the fries could be a blessing and a curse for me :) My friend had the french dip, and was equally impressed. I cannot wait to go back and try everything on the menu. I went to Taureaux today for their grand opening and was pleasantly surprised! The space is beautiful inside and looks very upscale--it's a sit-down restaurant that also offers a full bar so I could see this becoming a hot spot for after work drinks whenever you're feeling a bit fancy and down for spending a bit of money. We were seated right away and service was solid--I fully expected there to be some grand opening snafu's but really didn't experience any. Alex, our server, was very attentive throughout the meal. I ordered the wagyu beef french dip and it was baller--the meat was perfectly cooked and the aioli was not as horseradishy as I had anticipated. I originally asked for it on the side, but after tasting it, added it to my sandwich. There also seemed to be caramelized onions on it, which weren't listed on the menu, but were a welcome addition. The bread was super fresh, though the baguette was a bit too thin to be a proper vessel for the meat since it was sliced all the way through, so I ended up using my fork quite a bit. The au jus was tasty, but there wasn't a ton of it. That worked for me though bc I'm not into soaking my french dips. My lunchmate got the Gold Label Burger and said it was solid. Both of our plates were also loaded with fries. All in all, definitely worth a visit and I'm excited to go back. I hope they do to-go orders because I could see myself calling in an order and picking it up since my office is right across the street. read more

This place has not been open for a long time, but I feel like it's already making a statement. It has best of both worlds, a sections where you can sit down and enjoy a nice dinner which there are not a whole lot of options in the area. But you can also just hit the bar for drinks. They don't have a happy hour and the place is packed after work. Drink prices are reasonable and service is great. I always judge a place by their restroom and this place has really nice restrooms,very clean, fancy looking but it doesn't have enough for the crowds as the men's restroom has one urinal and one stall. read more

The cocktails were very good and reasonably priced, and the escargot was delicious. The steak frites was excellent. I would not recommend the half chicken, as it is simply an underwhelming butterflied chicken breast. Just what I needed near my office for happy hours. I was tired of drinking at places that couldn't make a good classic cocktail, but TT opened up and met my drinking needs. The food is also very solid, and I've yet to have a bad bite. In the warmer weather, the restaurant has a great outdoor seating, and the large windows are opened up so the bar doesn't feel so closed in and you can enjoy the weather. read more

Had dinner on its opening night and overall it was a pleasant experience, but not outstanding. The decor is nice and inviting, with the second-story open space for events and big gatherings. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the classic cocktail menus, spanning from staples like old fashioned and kir royale to stand outs such as vieux carre and vesper martini. Also impressed with the wine selection. The service could see a bit more improvement, considering that it was their first night. The wait staff's knowledge of the menu was questionable, not able to explain certain menu items or not pronouncing them in correct terms. We ordered foie gras pate and it came with texas-style toast points, instead of typical french bread. Plus no bread service. We split a roasted beets and brie salad, with fresh basil and shaved fennel. The port wine vinaigrette and breaded brie was wonderful on the field of greens sprinkled with toasted chopped almonds. Then comes the filet au roquefort, served with pommes frites. The filet came a bit overcooked (ordered medium-rare, came medium/medium-well) but still tender. We were ok with the meat and the flavor so not a big deal, but I felt that they needed to know since it was their first day so I told the waitstaff to inform the kitchen but got no follow-up. Bummer. Overall we had a nice experience at the new restaurant right by our condo. We wish that they would improve upon the first-day snafu I've noticed. read more

We got the French Onion Soup and the Escargot for shared apps which were both delicious. We also got the FILET AU ROQUEFORT and the PRIME NY STRIP. The filet was ordered medium but came well done. The strip was ordered med rare but came medium-med well. Also, if you're looking for a nice cut, don't get the strip, it's less than an inch thick, maybe closer tho half inch. Not good if you're a steak lover or prefer it Pittsburgh style. When we mentioned this to our server, he told us that there was a new guy in the kitchen and, I'm assuming, that's why they were not cooked properly. They would've redone them but we had to be to the theater on time or would've had them do it. Good service, good drinks and the apps were yummy! If it weren't for those issues, I would've given them 4 stars. We'd probably go back but we won't get those steaks, most likely. read more

I enjoyed my visit to Taureaux. I initially wanted to try the "Lobster Thermidor bites" but after the waitress assured me it was an extremely small dish I opted for the lobster nachos. Her recommendation was right as these were some of the best nachos I've ever had if you can classify something as simple as nachos as such. There was a béchamel quality to the cheese. It also included a decadent Giardiniera that far exceeds that which is found on iconic dishes like Italian beef sandwiches. Jalapeños gave it a touch of spice. I also wasn't disappointed, as I often am, with the amount of lobster. Although the huge chunks were solely on top of the dish there were plenty of sprinkles of lobster meat through the tortilla chips. I was a little disappointed in my old fashioned as I would only title this cocktail as merely a cocktail & not a craft. I could barely taste the accoutrements or either the bourbon was overbearing. It did it's job as an after work cocktail should but I I've had better. The dining room is sexy & there's even a covered outdoor patio for nice weather. I plan on returning soon read more

Great looking new French bistro at the south end of the financial district. I had the steak frite salad for lunch - my friend had a burger with fries. Many delicious wines by the glass. Food was yummy. Steak cooked and seasoned perfectly. Service was attentive and terrific. Very nice event space upstairs. Super busy the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Nice vibe. Good music. Thought the cheesy jalapeño hash browns would be cheese and jalapeño mixed in but seemed like they took the easy way and slapped on American cheese slices and jalapeño on top. I was back home in Chicago recently visiting from Los Angeles when I came across an IG post from Taureaux Tavern of a beautifully roasted 1/2 chicken, I had to try it. I dropped in, sat at the bar, and looked over the menu. There were so many things I wanted to order (bone in ribeye, 10oz burger w/caramelized truffle onions, oxtail & bone marrow). My mouth is watering just thinking about it...Anyway, since I already had my mind set on the chicken I ordered that. The bartender Alex recommended the Rich's table Cab and it was delicious! When the chicken arrived, the skin was crispy, the meat juicy, it was resting on a crispy bed of potatoes, and came with extra yummy chicken jus on the side...GOD DAMN, I said, GOD DAMN!!! The food is good. The drinks are good. Service was nice. It is really expensive, though. I'm used to paying a little extra in the city for a Basil Haydens old fashioned, but here its 28 bucks...just saying. The steak tartare was delicious, the waygu beef sandwich was good, but didn't stand out in any big way, and the grilled calamari wasn't rubbery which was a nice change. I'm not sure how this place has 4 stars. I was underwhelmed at best. I was dining alone and it seemed like a long wait to put in my drink order. Thought the patty melt sounded good so I ordered it- they were out! I have no idea if they were out of burgers too and I thought that was really odd to be out of that. So I ordered the pasta and added chicken. Should have know that a restaurant whose only chicken dish is a roasted thigh would have used dark meat in the pasta. Ok so it's not my personal preference but at one point I thought I was eating an artichoke heart. Nope- rubbery, over cooked dark meat. Also wasn't a huge fan of the vodka sauce- kind of wimpy and the "mini" rigatoni was mini only if you're a giant. At least the wine was tasty. Maybe other stuff is better on the menu but I won't be going back to try anything. Many far better places in Chicago. read more

Great little spot! I came here for happy hour with some colleagues. No food was ordered, but the cocktails were spectacular! I had a boulevardier which was super-smooth and really tasty. Table mates who ordered everything from an old fashioned to martinis to wine all really liked their selections. Our waitress was attentive and friendly; she was also very knowledgeable of the menu. I had to duck out early, and she was speedy with getting me my tab. I recommend sitting by the lounge-y small tables and booth area by the windows; it's great for people watching, and a good-sized group of us were able to spread out and take in the ambiance. Speaking of, really nice set up and decor; it's a good-sized spot. Only knock is with the noise level during busier hours, it's hard to have a conversation because of how big the space is. I had lunch here during restuarant week 2020. Service was nice and swift. I had the French onion soup and it was good to be b/c it wasn't salty like most of the FOS I've had. The only thing is there is a lot of bread (I'm trying to keep my carbs low) but the taste to me is delish. I really like their chicken cobb salad. Well made and dressed just right. I visited Taureaux yesterday with a group of coworkers. The staff here is great. Big shoutouts to the manager and our server Keira. They were really (really) helpful with figuring out a plan when it came down for the bill considering our group was pretty large. I would definitely recommend this place. A great addition to The Loop. They did an amazing job designing the space - it's stunning inside and fits perfectly in the financial district. Large bar area with plenty of room to sit and enjoy a drink. But don't miss the menu. We highly recommend the steak tartare and lobster thermidor as well as the chef's daily specials - especially the dover sole and recently tried the bouillabaisse, a saffron fish stew which was fantastic! The French onion soup was the best I've ever had I highly recommend it. The menu was varied and offered excellent options regardless of the occasion. As noted in the previous review there were gentlemen in suits which appeared to be the owners and they were not welcoming. Stumbled across Taureaux at lunch today. Had no idea it was open yet, but saw some action so we headed in. This place is beautiful. Everything from the chandeliers to the bar to the furniture it's right out of a magazine. Based on 4 of us trying 5 different items on the menu this is going to be a big hit. What took so long for a Randolph St. quality restaurant to open in this part of the loop? We can't wait to go back and try out the bar. Probably one of the more inviting bars I've seen. The club sandwich, lobster roll and patty melt (ridiculously decadent grill cheese with an 8oz patty thrown in for fun) were all terrific and all topped off with perfectly done fries. I mess with this place heavily. Anytime I am waiting for a train this is my go-to. All of the bartenders and staff are extremely nice and on top of their game. Any manager I have seen is also very cool as well. Usually will stop in for a drink or two, but have gotten their food as well and everything has been spectacular. My favorite drink, probably across the city, is the "Sympathy for the Devil" cocktail. Would recommend this place 100% and am very happy it opened up. read more
