Atmosphere and ambiance are truly comfy and cozy-rustic vibes overall. I had 4 different occasions and get togethers where I came here with friends and nursing colleagues. We were all impressed at the ambiance. The services was responsive and alert to our requests. The quality of food was pretty spot-on tasty. There is plenty of ample parking (private), not Valet! I went to Tavern 5 with my family two weeks ago for dinner. I sat first at the bar and I had a drink. Then I sat at a table inside. The waiter gave my family and I menus and she gave me plenty of time to look at it. I shared an appetizer of fried zucchini with my family. It was very delicious. For dinner, I had raviolis with vodka sauce and it was very good. The atmosphere was great because I could see the patio, outside, and the TV. Outside the handicap parking was near the door and I could walk in the front up three steps or in the back on a ramp. My overall experience was 4 stars. read more

Horrible experience!!! We were seated next to a table of 6 who were obnoxiously loud. They made sure that everyone heard their conversation. After appetizers the waiter came over to take our entree order. We asked him if he or a manager would ask them to tone it down. Response was " I will not". I guess the tip on a check of 6 is bigger than that a tip of a table of 2. It was a horrible dining experience. The apps weren't that good and the wine tasted like it came out of a box . Food: the food is ok. I've been here twice and it just doesn't do it for me. My husband ordered the Buffalo chicken flatbread pizza and he said it was a lot of bread. He didn't like it. I ordered the chicken Milanese. It was rubbery on some parts. It was ok. I've definitely had better. I would not get it again. I love French fries but did not like them from here. They were not crispy. I regretted ordering them. The calamari was good but expensive for what you get. You just get the rings... no tentacles which reminds me of frozen calamari from shoprite. I came here with my husband about a year or two ago and ordered the short rib. It was okay (lacked flavor) but I will say that I'm veryyy picky with short rib. I like it Gordon Ramsey style. It wasn't bad but when you've had way better at home, it's hard to give it a good rating. Service: The waitress was friendly. I had to remind her that I ordered fries and that might have been the reason why they were not crispy. I had to ask for ketchup for my fries which required me to wait some more. Some fries I can eat without ketchup, I could not eat these fries without ketchup. I hope next time I'll remember not to get the fries because I feel like this happened last time (I ordered them and didn't like them). Ambiance: I love the decor and ambiance of this place. Located at the former site of Gilly's in Pompton Plains, my partner, our friends and I came to this establishment for dinner after a recommendation from a friend and awesome Yelp reviews. Reservation is highly recommended. The parking lot is small which fills quickly and luckily found a space. Tavern 5 is a busy, vibrant pub-styled restaurant whose interior is both warm and inviting yet lively as it's kind of loud despite some improvements were made to the sound level. We were able to talk among ourselves without any problems. They have a terrace in back for outdoor dining. Their large bar area features specialty cocktails, wine with a large selection of beer in bottles and on tap. The menu is eclectic offering steaks, seafood, pizza, burgers, salads, chicken and pasta. Our server was Chris and very attentive. For starters, we ordered the arancini (rice balls) consisting of tomato jam, basil and pesto and Seared Ahi tuna (Soba noodle salad, tamari, and wasabi). These small bite sized rice balls came out warm and crispy. The soba noodles definitely smelled delicious with the sesame seed oil on the noodles. No complaints here on these appetizers. As an entree, we ordered Tavern 5 grilled chicken (Pepper Jack, avocado, bacon, tomato, chipotle aioli french fries), Short ribs (Braised short ribs, mashed potatoes, vegetable medley), Steak tacos (Filet tips, pico de gallo, avocado, queso blanco, slaw, mixed greens, chipotle aioli, tortilla chips) and Whiskey burger (Caramelized onions, cheddar, Jack Daniel's glaze, and substituted mashed potatoes from french fries). The sandwich and burgers were huge. The short ribs were very tender but the mashed potatoes were instant but very tasty. The taco consisted only a small amount of steak and the rest filling. We came here for drinks and apps on a Friday night around 9:30pm and sat at the bar. After sitting at the bar for about 4 minutes with dirty dishes in front of us and not being acknowledged, we moved to a different seat where we finally got the bartenders attention. We ordered drinks and some fries and we were promptly told that the kitchen would be closing. The fries came but took a few minutes to be asked if we wanted ketchup. The fries were $6.95! They were your standard fries. Nothing special. We had no silverware or napkins until we asked. The bartenders seemed distracted and eating fries themselves.. The whole experience leaves us not wanting to return. This was our first time back in a year and we weren't impressed. read more

Been here quite a few times and each and every time it's still wonderful. Great food/great drinks. They have seasonal specials on food and cocktails. I've been there during summer, fall and winter months. Outdoor seating as well as indoor. Plenty of parking. I've noticed most of the time I've ordered different seasonal margaritas here. I loved this place. Food was great, I had a vanilla mojito cocktail that was really good but my mom ordered a bay breeze that was weak. She said she didn't get the slightest buzz. However margarita pizza was great and Garlic Parmesan wings were great too. Came with my family and they all enjoyed their meal. The cookie dessert was sooo good. Love that they have the outdoor area for when it's nice out. Service was outstanding. Had about 3 different people picking up empty plates/drinks. Very efficient here. Upscale vibe and had a generally young and attractive crowd, way different than gillys Has a nice outdoor back patio and a very cool bar. Stopped in after golf for dinner and a drink and ate at the bar. Bartenders friendly and attentive and the food was outstanding. Nice little upscale pub, will be back for sure. read more

Ordered a bloody mary, which came in a tiny glass, way too small for a bloody Mary, completely filled with ice to the top. Two sips and it was gone. We have been to Tavern 5 a number of times over the last few years. The service is always good and we usually like the food. This time, however, my wife had a burger, which was mediocre. I had pizza, which was quite good. So we'll be back, but we won't be ordering burgers. As some others have noted, the acoustics are not great and it can become a bit loud when it's crowded. read more

Delicious sea scallops with asparagus risotto. My husband had the chicken sandwich(okay) with the Parmesan truffle fries. The fries had a nice crunch to them. I like the food and the service is fast. The only thing I noticed the last two times I was there is I felt rushed. Both times my friends and I did not order drinks just dinner and sodas. We ate and our plates were cleared pretty quick. We were talking and they were not crowded. It was a Tuesday night. The impression was time for you to go. Owners clearly spared no expense for us to enjoy a wicked cool place for years to come. We thought the prices were on point with some variety depending on your needs/wants, from a respectable orecchiette broccoli rabe with sausage for 14 dollars or hit up a little fresh seafood food at $22 scallops. Finally got to Tavern 5 and was not disappointed. Place was packed on a Saturday night. The restaurant was really nice inside and was lucky enough to find a spot in the lot. Overall **** I found Tavern 5 a nearly perfect local restaurant for its look and overall feel. Although I was unimpressed with the burger I do want to come back and try some of the other menu items that I saw being served that looked very professionally prepared. Setting ***** Beautifully designed restaurant with its hardwood floors, dark wood beams and low Edison bulb lighting. I found it to be extremely comfortable and inviting that could serve for a date night or family dinner although due to all the hard surfaces I imagine the noise level would rise rapidly. They also have a very nice outdoor seating area in the back but it's not covered. The parking lot isn't very big but there is plenty of street parking. One note of caution is when pulling out of the parking lot be very careful as visibility is very limited with all the cars on the street. At 6:30 on a Thursday night the restaurant was about 1/2 full but the bar was very busy. The bar clientele was mostly a well dressed 50+ crowd if not older. Some appeared to just be couples, others on first dates and quite a few singles out for Happy Hour. An acoustic guitar singer started up at 7:00. Service **** The hostess and server I interacted with were friendly, competent and well trained. Glancing around the dining room the other servers seemed to be smiling and on top of their tables. Food *** The menu is not nearly as expansive as the size would indicate but there seems to be just about something for everyone although I don't recall seeing much seafood with the only item being on the specials menu. I was by myself so I just grabbed the last available high top in the bar area and ordered a burger. I was excited for the burger after seeing on the menu that it was a Pat Lafrieda burger which is one the top meat purveyors in the NYC area. My excitement faded when it arrived though as it was small, maybe 6 oz compared to the usual 8 oz pub burger, and dry. The bun didn't really compliment it well and the fries were just plain old fries. It wasn't bad just not something I would desire to have again. Value *** Most menu prices seemed about pretty fair to me with apps in the $10 range, entrees $20-$30. My burger was $13 which for something that size wasn't worth it and a glance around at other plates being served it didn't appear that the portion size was generous but we could probably all eat smaller portions. read more

Ambiance - 7.3/10 Food - 6.7/10 Service - 7/10 pre-encounter, 6.1 post-encounter* Pretty standard ambiance, I like the music and the lighting was nice. Food was standard I'd say. Their menu doesn't have too wide of a variety so I'd expect the food on the menu to come out better. I did have a burger my first time dining and it was delicious, so a burger is my recommendation. *We had a run-in with our waitress, which essentially killed the mood of the entire night. She wasn't pleased with the tip that was left by my family (they're immigrant parents so tipping culture doesn't exist where they're from). Roughly the tip came out to 13%, and she stopped by our table to ask us if her service was bad (I guess based on the tip that she received). She took our orders, she brought us our drinks 15 minutes later (2x beer and 2x some cocktail, not exactly 15 long drinks to make), she didn't bring us our food (chef brought the plates), she brought us to-go boxes with the dessert menu, and then brought us our check. She was kind but not personable, for example she didn't even tell us her name. The waiting was average. If it was bad she would've gotten 0-5%, average 5-15%, and exceptional 15-20% (my scale of tipping). My parents, again immigrants, are from a non-tipping culture, so 13% by them is generous. That being said, she got an additional pity tip because my parents felt embarrassed by the entire interaction, leaving our night unfortunately dulled and her tip raised. Personally, I think a location like Tommy's Tavern is better suited. Slightly more rugged ambiance, but more food options/better food quality, and have not had an encounter of bad service with my family at Tommy's read more
