I love the tavern and when I come into ft w I always want to go there - today I took a friend there and was so disappointed- when u want a salad u want lettuce tomatoes etc not just a heaping mound of frisee with a small section of tomato 2 cucumber slices and some shredded carrots the roasted artichokes were under done as well as most of my veggies on the veggie plate my friend had salmon appetizer with way over done toast we had coffee at the end which was luke warm my friend asked for real sugar not once but twice and got stevia and truvia before finally getting the sugar and for that with 2 glasses of wine our bill was $86 before tip I don't paying for good food but this was very disappointing read more

Our first time in and we were fortunate enough to get Mike as our waiter/bartender. He was more than personal (which made us feel more than welcome). We thought even if the food wasn't good, we would come back to have drinks, BUT, he gave us great suggestions for dinner. My husband had the filet which was AMAZING!!! This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous! If you are feeling romantic or even easy going and fun, this is the perfect place! The food is amazing and the wait staff is so polite. Our server was Corey and he made sure we had great experience! I ordered the salmon and it is was phenomenal! My husband had a steak and he loved it as well. This is our new date night spot!! Even though every time we go we end up taking our little one! Visited the location in San Angelo-Yum! So, now I have been to the Tavern in Ft worth twice now-once for dinner once for lunch. Zero complaints(except that the patio has flies, yuck). Service=knowledgeable and attentive Food=order anything, you can't go wrong. Pulled a fast one on us. Unapproved charge on our account the next day. Said they forgot to charge us for a meal. We knew there was something off about this place and the staff. We rarely take our copy of the receipt but in this case, we did. Sure enough...I guess a signature means zip when you pay your bill. Sketchy....beware. Their incompetence shouldn't be my problem. Our new go to Sunday Brunch. Ask for Mike at the bar and you will be in good hands. They offer both a brunch menu and regular lunch meeting. I recommend the Famous Pastrami Sandwich. Piled high pastrami with Swiss, spicy mustard layered with house made slaw. The slaw provides a sweet compliment to the mustard. Bloody Mary are nice and spicy. House made Bloody Mary mix. We really like going here. They have so many delicious menu items. Their margaritas are so good! They use house-squeezed limes, so smooth and balanced. They also have the best fries in town. Oh, and save room for dessert. Their chocolate bread pudding and key lime pie are very good-never too sweet-perfect end to any meal. read more

Very promising place. We just popped in for a late lunch, sat at the bar, and opted for appetizers. The staff were a little hit or miss--our initial bartender tended to ignore us most of the time but was perfectly pleasant when accosted (as was needed for water/beer refills). I think another bartender came on at some point, who was much chattier (in a good way) and livelier. Pork nachos, deviled eggs, and soup of the day (chicken tortilla) were all very respectable, as was the beer menu. The food was very tasty and I'm sure we'll be back at some point to try more. The atmosphere is nice but casual and there's even a small patio off on the side. I'm not sure I would go out of my way for The Tavern, but if you find yourself in the neighborhood or live around here, it seems like a very dependable go-to. read more

We have had dinner here twice and happy hour once. The first time we dined here they were so busy and it took a while for someone to take our orders. She actually forgot to put our order in but it was okay because she bought us a round of drinks to make up for it. The food was good and worth the wait. Love the cookbooks scattered throughout the restaurant. You can flip through it while enjoying a cocktail or waiting for your food. You can tell this place has a lot of regulars. The menu has lots of great salads, sandwiches, a few mexican dishes, a few bbq dishes, and a few fancier things like steak or fresh fish. The second time we ate here it was a much better experience. The cocktails are made in perfect proportions and are nice and strong. I tried the cucumber martini and the margarita. For appetizers we have had the deviled eggs (topped with bacon and very good), cornbread (dense, sweet, crispy top, more like dessert and very yummy). For dinner I had the crab cake salad which was recommended by the server because I couldn't decide. All of their salads sounded good and had great combinations of ingredients. Husband had the ribs which were served with coleslaw. He ate every bit of it. This place gets loud so if you are looking for a romantic dinner I would look elsewhere. If you are looking for consistently good food and fresh ingredients you will enjoy it. I think for me personally this makes a better lunch spot. read more

Returned for a third dinner here just last night to treat my dad to a birthday dinner. We were early, so the place was dead - fine by us as it makes for easier conversation. Tyler was a great server, joining in with our chit-chat enthusiastically. Dad, Mom, and I shared their guacamole - opting for a double over the combo with queso. This has to be among the best guac we've had. The side of salsa didn't hurt either. This go around I tried the Ahi Tuna Burger, and let me just say: Yum. What with the guac and side of shoestring fries, I got full fast, so I took half the sandwich home. (Ate it today cold, and it was almost better!) My dad tried out the half slab of pork ribs, which were fantastic: meaty ribs that he nearly sucked dry. And, my mom took on the Crab Cake Salad, eating all but a couple last bites of salad. She was very pleased. While not cheap, it's certainly far from expensive (re: Captial Grille), so it's worth it if you can. It's on my very short list of places to return to for special occasions. read more

Forget all of the gripes. Every appetizer on the menu is worth the trip, especially the queso americano and smoked salmon. They have a little known happy hour from 3-7 (don't think so on weekends) with half price appetizers if you sit in the bar. If I miss lunch I like to walk over and eat an inexpensive late lunch and bring my comp for free wifi. Service is always prompt and friendly. Drinks are always delicious. The texas lemonade is amazing. My favorite meal is a split between the crab cake salad, club sandwich or the ribs. All delicious. And the thin super crispy fries. It's a great spot on Saturday morning or afternoon to catch a game. You can sit at the bar and not have to fight for a drink. Or fight traffic in and out. This place is one of my favorites in Fort Worth and we try them all. If you like high end American, come to The Tavern. read more

My boyfriend and I love trying out new brunch places in FtW. Awesome brunch here. I was referred by a friend who lived in the area. Bottomless Mimosas for $7. The only thing I didn't like was that they had ice in them. I simply asked for no ice in the rest of mine. We sat in cocktail, which in my opinion always gets better service no matter where you go. Our drinks were always replenished. For our meal, my boyfriend and I both ordered the Steak Ranchero. We ordered our steaks medium- rare and that's exactly how they came. Tender, pink and juicy. However, our steaks were not a big size for the price. They were maybe 7oz, BUT about a fourth of it was fat. It filled me up but my boyfriend eats a lot and it definitely did not fill him up. (We are sitting at another bar now and he just ordered an additional pizza and wings after eating at the Tavern.) I'm not a big fan of potatoes but whatever seasoning they had on theirs, I'm a fan now. We each ordered extra bacon and it had a smokey flavor. Really good. They had a giant pile of firewood in the back so I'm guessing they smoke their bacon and/or brisket. The dessert menu was hard to choose from. It all sounded enticing. We ended choosing the banana creme pie. (Couldn't help remember the Kat Williams skit. Lmao.) It was absolutely ambrosial. Especially the crust. This is a great new restaurant, which replaced the tired, smoky Snookies. If you haven't been yet, go.... and go hungry. Portions are very generous and the prices are ridiculously reasonable. We chose to sit at the bar, our bartender / server was fantastic, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Another reviewer noted the menu being limited, that must have been just after they opened. That is not the case now, a huge range of American fare, with much of the meat coming from the sustainable hormone free Niman Ranch. I had the pork chop, which was Flinstone sized, from Niman Ranch. At 18$ it was probably the best value meal I have ever had. A side of cheesy shells (with recommended bacon added) offset the spiced rubbed porky goodness. My friend had the New Mexico burger, with recommended fried egg on top. The Tavern cooked it medium rare, perfectly! The have a nice tap beer selection, including Rahr Bucking Bock & New Belgium Ranger. They do brunch on Saturday & Sunday, menu is not as extensive as dinner- but I'm sure it is all as delicious! What a great place, great pricing, helpful staff.... I will be heading back very soon! read more

My friend and I ventured out this morning to Fort Worth as we wanted to do Trader Joe's. Decided on brunch at The Tavern as reviews here seemed to be pretty good. Very disappointed in it. We both ordered Bloody Mary's and probably should have gone with the bottomless Mimosa.... both seemed very low on the vodka/tomato juice end and very high on the seasonings... hot sauce and worcestershire was so prevalent, it actually left my tongue feeling like I had eaten jalepenos. Served over a ridiculous amount of ice which had partially melted by the time we received them and so therefore, tasted watery in no time. A big ol' never again! I ordered the Beef Brisket Hash. It was fairly attractive when it came to the table however it is not "hash" by any stretch of the imagination. What it is is a bunch of huge roasted potato chunks, beef brisket on top of that, and a fried egg on top of that. First the potatoes really need to be smaller as they were so big every one had to be cut at least in half to be able to be eaten properly. The egg was to have been "over-easy" but instead was fried. No runny yellow, bottom of egg so overcooked it was crispy. It truly needed the ooze of a properly cooked yolk. The brisket part was tasty but there were so many pepper flakes in this dish that again, my mouth was burning. The menu also said included cheddar cheese but mine had none on it at all.. not that I think this could have saved it. My friend ordered the Blue Crab Florentine. She said the flavors were good but in her opinion the tomato needed to be grilled a bit and not just put on there raw. Downside was that the poached eggs were not poached completely. As she cut into them, the white of the egg remained runny. Yuck! The cook is definitely challenged in the cooking of eggs at this place. Service was a bit rough.... we were welcomed quickly, seated and our drink order taken. However, once our drinks arrived we did not see the waitress again for a bit. Finally came and took our orders. Delivery was timely but after that we didn't see her for ages. My friend wanted ketchup for her potatoes and I watched our waitress as she and another stood by the kitchen and chatted, never looking into the dining area so we could at least wave her down. When she did finally come to us, my friend requested her ketchup and it was another ten minutes before it was brought to her. So while we may have chosen to return sometime in the future to experience lunch/dinner as the menu looked interesting, I don't think we will be doing so. read more

The ahi tuna salad with mango was the best thing that we ate. The pan seared scallops with risotto had potential to be great if not for it being super salty. The chef did remake it and send us to taste how it should have tasted, but it was still a bit salty. The rigatoni bolognese was good. The banana pie was great. Overall the restaurant is great! Wow, wasn't expecting this!!! I ordered the seared Ahi salad with a side of mac and cheese. The salad was sublime! I loved the fact how the salad had such a variety of nuanced flavors. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Other members of my party had the chicken sandwich with fries: golden chicken, juicy, an explosion of flavor! the fries crispy and delicious and the other entre was the Japanese salmon (unfortunately the person eating this dish didn't allow me to partake). The food is great, but the service is not! We had an unfortunate experience with a to-go order. They do not answer the phone when they are busy, so their mishap cost us three trips to get solved, one to order, one to pick up (they could not find the order), and three for us to bring the receipt back up to show that we did order. This was a situation where one of us ordered, went home, and the other went to pick it up, hence not having the receipt. The third visit proved that the order was there and ready all along. When voicing our complaints of wasted time, three trips, and their not answering the phone, the manager gave us an insincere apology that included "okay, by-by." Needless to say, we were so shocked; every bit of this mistake was on them, and even him, as he was the one that handled the second and third visits. So disappointing. Their prices have increased exponentially, but good service should go with those high prices, especially from the manager! Fortunately, there are better options around, we will not be back! read more

Definitely will be returning. We went around noon on Sunday and it was pretty packed. Fortunately there was one of those high tables for two available in the bar area. We picked from their brunch menu. I got the Chilaquiles and they were so delicious! If you are like me, and like the taste and flavor of something spicy, but can't stand it when it's SOOO freakin spicy that you burn your mouth and can't enjoy it. Then you will LOVE their chilaquiles. I am always apprehensive when ordering something spicy because I've ordered spicy things before that I can't even eat past two bites. But this was delicious! It's not really spicy at all and has such a tasty flavor. You wont be disappointed. :) Service was great! Our drinks were always full and the staff is super friendly! Once you walk in, the hostess will greet you. There is no mistaking that you are to wait to be seated. Which is awesome... I hate not knowing if i'm to seat myself or not. Service was great. My husband and I have been twice. Once for drinks and once for dinner. The first time, we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly, knowledgable, and even let my husband sample beers that he had not tried before. It left a very good impression, in terms of friendliness and service. Last night we went to eat at the Tavern for dinner. Once again, service was fantastic. Our server was kind, knowledgable, and always around if we needed something. The food though... Meh. For an appetizer we had the shrimp poblano quesadillas and the guacamole and queso americano with chips. The quesadilla was alright, but the tortilla tasted store bought. The chips and guacamole were good, but the pimento cheese ball left something to be desired.I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese and my husband ordered the Hollywood burger for main dishes. I met a friend here for lunch recently and after hearing her rave reviews I was sadly a bit underwhelmed. The steak salad was pretty good, the tomato basil soup didn't align with my palette, however. My friend loved the soup, but I'm more of a fan of the traditional creamy flavor; this seemed more of an oil based soup. The atmosphere was good, not too loud so we could catch up and have conversation at a reasonable decibel. Maybe I'll try some other options another time. read more
