SUPER strong. It was delicious and perfect. Someone ordered sweet potatoe chips with the blue cheese fondue for the table. DEVINE. My main complaint is that it was SUPER DARK. I felt like I needed a flashlight. Our booth was in the corner and I almost felt like I was in a dungeon. My staff was friendly. At fist hesitant to cram all 10 of us in a booth but it was all good! Tavern is one of my favorite hangouts in Nashville. Whether you're looking for a boozy brunch, a fun happy hour or after dinner drinks, a business lunch, or a casual dinner, Tavern has it all. Their menu is creative, absolutely delicious (I've never ordered anything I didn't love, and at this point I've almost ordered the entire menu), and there is something on it for everyone. They have a daily "Midtown Quickie" (special) that is always fun and delicious, and some great desserts that are constantly new as well. The staff is professional, attentive, and friendly, and they make great effort to accommodate their patrons, as well as get to know their regulars. Anytime I have friends coming to town I always point them to Tavern or take them there myself, and I am always told that it is one of their favorite parts of their trip. Other Pros: (a) Ambiance - They did an incredible job at building out the restaurant and decorating it. The space is beautiful. It has an upscale feel while still being casual. There are a ton of TVs so it is a GREAT place to watch sports (they even have a "game day" menu with a bunch of great apps), their patio space is large with both sunny and shady spots, and the gorgeous bar is a focal point with plenty of seating, and you can also sit away from that area in the booths and tables up the stairs. (b) Staff - When you walk in you will be warmly greeted by the hostess/hostesses and taken care of. It never takes more than a couple minutes for your waitress to appear, and they are always very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful throughout your meal. The manager is constantly walking around checking on tables and helping out where needed (a sign of great management!), and the bartenders move quickly, mix some mean cocktails, and have great suggestions if you can't decide what you want. (c) Complimentary Valet - It can be difficult to find parking in Midtown, but Tavern provides a complimentary valet. Just be sure to tip the valet a few dollars when you leave... Those guys work very hard! Tip: If you are going for brunch, be sure to get there early (between 10 and 10:30) if you want to be seated immediately. If you get there around 11 or later you are pretty much guaranteed to wait. Tavern has one of the most popular brunches in Nashville for a reason... it's amazing! If you do have wait though, just grab a mimosa or bloody mary at the bar (or coffee if morning drinking isn't your thing) while you hang out. Their brunch libations are 2-for-1 and they are fantastic! Bottom Line: Tavern is not a place to miss out on. If you're lucky enough to live in Nashville you'll quickly become a regular, and if you're just passing through town I promise this will make the top of your list once you leave. read more

Things to try: mussels: as midatlantic folks I was hesitant to get any seafood in Nashville but these had great flavor and the bread for dipping was noteworthy. Sweet potato fries with jalapeño ketchup. Kale salad which paired perfectly with the toasted almonds and currants therein. Tuna entree was small but perfectly seared and flavored. Chimichanga had juicy tender chicken and the quest/bean combination was great. To drink we had the Pablo Honey which was smooth and flavorful. Nothing bad to say about the place!! read more

An abundance of prospects waiting for a table does not a happy dining experience make. A bar crammed with customers reaching over backs to order drinks makes for an uncomfortable experience even when seeking its refuge. But while on a dinner meeting and after spending $100 on entrées and appetizers, I had to flag down the assistant cook, (the guy in bright red baggy pants watching TV), to see if I could get more avocado for my tuna entrée. He made it very apparent and direct that he could not help me with that situation and I would have to flag down my waitress so she could bill me for the four dollar avocado. read more

One of our favorites while visiting Nashville for the first time. Went for brunch on a Saturday and got there before they opened so we were able to be sat immediately. Speciality cocktails were 2 for 1 so my mom and I both had the sangria. I would say it's the best sangria I have ever had, very refreshing and the perfect beverage for brunch. I chose the huevos rancheros. It was my favorite meal during the entire trip. My mom usually would not eat something like this and she loved it as well. She had the red velvet waffle which was good, but could use something to elevate it to the next level. Overall a great experience and we would definitely return. read more

The sangria was awesome. Be prepared to have a long wait. We were told it would be much longer than it actually was. They do take your phone number and will text you when a table is avail which I thought was really convenient. What is brunch when no one refills your coffee? I was visiting my friend in Nashville and we had heard Tavern had one of the best brunches in the city. We got there right after it opened and were warned that the wait was about an hour. In the hour and a half we waited, we saw groups large and small get seated after appearing to arrive after we had put our names down. Each time my friend politely asked about the wait, the time for longer. When I complained, we were seated immediately. We were seated near the bar, but the restaurant was so crowded people were practically falling onto our table. Our server seemed to have too much going on and we were so tucked away we couldn't see any staff unless they fought through a crowd to find us. The food was fine, but definitely not worth the wait. I got an eggs Benedict with ham and my friend got the eggs with stir fry, but we couldn't even finish it because we are so many fries before our dishes came. It's the first time I've had brunch in any southern city and not had servers automatically refilling coffee, which was a huge disappointment for me. read more

Great ambiance and really good food to go with it. I asked my waitress Sarah, who was great, what was good and she said the burgers. I went with her suggestion and she was dead on. Soft bun, perfectly done (medium rare) grilled onions and cheddar made it really flavorful. The fries were excellent as well. I had a cocktail and it was a very generous pour. The food is good but the wait on a busy night or brunch morning can be painstaking. You will be surprised to see all the TVs they have though. There is a big bar but that doesn't matter on a Saturday night when diners take up all the stools. Weekday dinner would be the best time to go. The menu is good for foodies and the unadventurous. Parking is the worst here, valet only. Take an Uber or Lyft and you will be happy. That is true for anything in the area though. read more

Meh. I don't see how this place got such high marks. We started off with the cauliflower buffalo bites and steak and cheese egg rolls. The cauliflower bites were kind of soggy/a little overdone. The cheese steak egg rolls were nothing to write home about either. They were served up with what tasted like a hunts ketchup dip and a cheese dip straight out of a jar. I ordered the turkey BLT and asked for an extra side of the avocado aioli. The aioli did not taste like avocado. The turkey BLT should just be called a turkey sandwich because BLTs should contain a decent amount of bacon and lettuce. My sandwich came with a sliver of bacon and even less lettuce. It was stacked with turkey but it needed way more lettuce to help freshen it up. It was served with sweet potato chips that were soaked in oil. 1/4 were edible and the rest were to drenched in oil to even think about eating. I don't know why our food took so long. For sure they weren't back there frying up fresh chips for me. read more

On a girls trip to nashville the gentleman on the plane ride into town suggested this restaurant. We went during Brunch time on Saturday. Reasonable wait, but they text you when the table is ready. But the food is very good for a restaurant within walking distance of Vanderbilt. And Tom the bartender makes the best Long Islands. Depending on when you go, wait time can be a pain. And they don't take reservations. But overall: good food, good drinks, good service, good space, and easy to get to if you're in the Vanderbilt or Midtown area. read more

I'm usually a chilaquiles girl, so the Huevos Rancheros sounded sort of tempting with its eggs, tortillas and salsa combination. Now, huevos rancheros in general has never really appealed to me, but Tavern had me changing my tune. I have a feeling that no other restaurant's version of this dish will impress me as much as this one, but if you are in Nashville and you are at Tavern for brunch and you don't get the Huevos Rancheros.... you're making a HUGE mistake.
