Ekk! First time going to this place just because we are craving for some new flavors and wanted to try restaurant we haven't been to. First time reviewing a place that I'm giving one star. Went here to order take-out and stayed in the bar to wait for our orders. My husband got mojito and IT LITERALLY TASTE LIKE ****, like just plain rum with mint, I thought it was expired at first. Literally the worst mojito we ever tasted. I was not able to take pictures as we threw almost everything out. For appetizer we got Fried calamari and jalapeño poppers. Their calamari was frozen and taste old. Poppers is okay. For main I get the chicharrron de Pollo, chicken has flavor outside but very dry inside had sweet plantain as side. My husband got the Cuban Sandwich instead of mustard they put mayonnaise (kept complaining as how can anyone messed that up right?!) with a side of what tasted like frozen fries with no salt. My sister got the Fish tacos which was very very salty with no sauce on the side, added tostones with no salt as well. (Like really? Urgh!!) Got 3 Tres leches, it was good two has chocolate on top and one without (reason I'm giving one star) Place was okay with few people and there was a karaoke happening every Thursday. (Again this is based on my experience, was hoping it would be an authentic Latin restaurant but ehhhh definitely not going back)

My boyfriend and I ordered food for the two of us through their website at around 1:45. Order was placed, money disputed from account and said it would be ready at 2:15. When we arrived for pick up the parking lot was empty, lights off and door locked even though online and their hours posted to their window said that they should be open. We waited for 20 minutes, knocking and calling with no reply. Not sure how to go about getting a refund on our order with no one to reply to us. This situation is extremely upsetting as ordering out is not as affordable as we all wish. Also hope this awares the owners to change their online website to not automatically place orders without an employee accepting it first.

The menu has always attracted me but was not sure a place in carmel could deliver great Latin food. They sure delivered on authentic Latin dishes. while the name wouldn't let on to Latin dishes this is the place to go if you want some good home quality Latin food . I had the pernil and it was perfectly moist and tasty with flavory crispy pieces and great pork skin.. yum . I also had to try the chicharon/fried chicken piece Mofongo. It was amazing with great presentation in a traditional pilon (mortar) with a great mix of meat and fried platano and the gravy was delicious. We also had a beef fajita that was flavorful with some minimal grizzly pieces. No longer do I have to travel to the Bronx to get great Latin food . Overall dining experience was tavern like and we just happened to know 90% of the people dining there that night ..

    Pernil, fried plantains and beans

After trying Tavern on 52 for the first time I can't figure out why they're not packed. There's a sign outside that says Caribbean food, I don't think that's exactly accurate. A combination of a Mexican, Dominican, Latin food with some US favorites. A group of diverse people could come with very varied eating habits/tastes and be very very happy. I sampled the Pernil, another word for slow cooked pork shoulder. It was tender, juicy, flavorful. The fried soft plantains (not the dry crispy ones) were DEE LISH, beans were tasty and brothy. Service was prompt, friendly, attentive, not intrusive. Pricing was on point. Place was very clean. Honestly, go there. Off the beaten track and not busy....yet.

Sooo you know how they say that its not home til you find a good food spot in your area?! Finally!!! Moved to Carmel about a year and a half ago and tried most of the spots in the area but this?!?!!! Amazing so flavorful. Im from the city and this place would knock a lot of places out the water! Didnt expect the food to be this good bc it looks like a regular local bar but a neighbor recently mentioned they ordered and loved it. Sooo we had shrimp tempura, pork mofongo, and garlic shrimp with white rice and sweet plantains Our waiter was a young man( didnt get his name) soooo nice and attentive great guy!!! The cook even came out to say hello and to check if we were enjoying the food. The drinksssss !!! We had mojitos and margaritas. Delicious Its hard to find a place with good food and drinks but this place is def it. We eat out about 3 times a week and have had the chance to try a ton of places but this will be our go to!

Lately, they have additional vegan options, although we get meat and fish. Most of the menu is gluten free. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. We tend to eat outside and the several tables along the sidewalk. We get takeout for dinner later as well. Nearby fast electric car chargers in the same complex contribute to the excellence of this location for the traveler.

I was shocked at how good it was. I wasn't expecting one of the best margaritas I've ever had. We shared the shrimp taquitos and elote corn dip. The tortilla chips were really good. My dad killed the dip. It's my first time having birria tacos. I added the cheese for a buck. They have a hot sauce station. Which even has creama. Of course I had to try all the hot sauces. I got a meal to go for my sister who is gluten free. Most of the menu if actually gluten free. I'm not a vegetarian but the vegetarian tacos sounded so good! Great variety of choices. Something for everyone for sure. Our waiter was so attentive and helpful. I got to peak into the new bar attached to the restaurant. It will be opening soon I believe. Very exciting. So happy we decided to come here!
