Always a great stop in our days when in Central Park. The staff is always friendly. Also such fresh food. The seats outside make it officially summer. With a great vibe. It's about pricey but worth the experience.

Best fresh truffle dish I have ever eaten and will be back in December just to eat the truffles again! Best experience ever! I have loved eating here since I came with my college group 44 years ago! The crystal room is where I always sit. There is no other place that makes me happier! Tavern always feeds my body, mind and spirit!

While exploring Central Park we grabbed lunch at here. We arrived a little past eleven, when it opens, and were seated right away in the dinning area. Two options for visiting - meal experience or drinks with small bites in the lounge area. The dinning area has an open kitchen concept so you have the opportunity to watch the chef in action. Our table opted for the New York clam chowder, figs with cream and honey, and the steak sandwich with fries. The food was filling and flavorful. The sandwich could be a shared plate. My clam chowder was good, but my brain was envisioning "New England" style clam chowder and was momentarily confused when what looked like vegetable soup was presented. Our waitress was amazing! She gave pointers of things to experience while here and told us of some local favorites to grab some of the best food. The views of the restaurant looking out into the park were relaxing. Great experience.

What's not to like about TOTG!!! Or server took great care of us and never rushed us for anything. However, he did rush several drinks and appetizers and entrees to our table when those items were ready. ;) Weather was perfect on this spring in March kind of day. Food was excellent and exciting in every way. My mom and I had Mother's Day lunch in March. Why?! Just because. Ya know. Why wait. Cheers to Mothers Day in March!

Mid-day Cocktail Break in Central Park, NYC, after a vigorous walk in Central Park in a winter setting. Needed a cozy place to take a break and be tucked away in this well established restaurant bar in the park. As always it's an inviting setting, attentive servers, welcoming vibe. While I was there I didn't feel it was a tourist trap, it made you feel relaxed - winter setting. We had cocktail drink standards and my friend from Montana went simple, beer, draft that is. Others had Old Fashioned, Ketel One and Cranberry drinks. This place is always a return visit everytime I go to NYC and I'm in Central Park area, don't know how summer is like, but for fall and winter, I can attest its the real deal on service, drinks, and setting. Like Arnold says, "I"ll be back."

09/2024: Located in Central Park. They have lovely indoor and outdoor seating available. Dishes were well-balanced and innovative. I had the grilled rainbow trout with green beans and warmed bacon potato salad. Even the fish and chips special has a salad on the side! The texture of the grilled trout was perfectly crisp and the warmed bacon potato salad was something I had never tried before but aspire to replicate in the future. The standards of the desserts were no less. We had the bing cherry creme brûlée and the peanut butter chocolate lava cake - both of which I'd never tried before but did not disappoint! The tartness of the bing cherries with the creamy creme brûlée was heavenly and the peanut butter chocolate lava cake was like...wait, why have I not tried this before?!? The delicious, well-thought out dishes and the attentive service made for a wonderful dining experience. It's been over a year since I was here and my mouth is just watering thinking back on my experience here.

We didn't have reservations, but we're lucky enough to score a seat at the bar for lunch. We were walking in Central Park in this was conveniently located and a wonderful respite. I had the salmon burger with sweet potato fries, and it was a welcomed entrée for a hungry dude. Prices are quite expensive, but for convenience sake we felt it worthwhile endeavor. Service at the bar was excellent.

Me and my colleagues came here for a celebratory dinner the other week and it was so nice. We started off with drinks in the lobby/bar area and they were delicious. We got the Bronx, the Brooklyn, the Mezcal Negroni and the Fireside Chat. Everyone really enjoyed the drinks. We were then led to our table which looked out into the snowy courtyard and it was very pretty. The service was great and we all decided to do the restaurant week menu. For starters, we all got the garlic shrimp which was very good, and then for our mains, some of my colleagues got the chicken breast, or the beef short ribs, which they said were good. One of my colleagues got the codfish which she really enjoyed and I got the roasted carrot entree, which was pretty good. For dessert, we all ordered something different but I thought the apple crisp was really good and flavorful. It was a lovely evening at a beautiful restaurant and I would definitely come back again!

Great food and great atmosphere! We had a fantastic family dinner together. The center courtyard was beautiful and decorated with lights for Christmas! Everyone enjoyed their food. The most surprising favorite dish was the garlic shrimp appetizer. Service was fantastic!

I'm not sure I can say enough good things about this restaurant! This is definitely one of the most iconic restaurants in all of New York so I was so excited to go! It is situated within Central Park and definitely has an old-school vibe when you walk in. however the entire back of the restaurant is floor to ceiling windows, so you can look out on the park... stunning! They also have a great bar and a fabulous seating area around a fireplace that is so cozy I have to come back just to sit there and have a cocktail by the fire! The day we got there it was raining because it was early December however, we sat near the windows and looked at the Christmas tree in the courtyard, which was lovely! Another thing I noticed about the restaurant was that even though it was full, you could still carry on a conversation! I love restaurants that have good sound acoustics! I took my niece and nephew here with me, and since none of us had ever been before, we relied on our server to help guide us with our meal selections. Since it was lunch, we decided to all have the hamburger which our waiter said was one of the most ordered meals on the menu. We all agreed it was delicious! Unfortunately, we were also hungry I forgot to take a photo. If you are in New York or visiting New York, I would definitely put this on your list of restaurants to visit...It is everything!

Went here for a New Year's Eve party, and I'm genuinely torn. Because the night itself? Fantastic. The dinner and service? A mess. The party was great. Seriously. The DJ was on point and somehow hit everything from 70s classics to today without losing the room for a second. The energy was right, the NYE decor was festive without being cheesy, and the whole place had that "this could actually be a fun night" feeling. And watching fireworks from the outside patio at midnight? That part was magic. For a minute, it felt like the kind of New York New Year's you actually hope you're paying for. Then the food showed up. And that's where things went off the rails. It was bad. Really bad. The first thing they put out was a clam with caviar, and it smelled off. I'm not being dramatic, it had that unmistakable "this is not fresh" fishy funk, and the taste backed it up immediately. After that, it was just one disappointment after another: a salad that was somehow underdressed and still oversalted, scallops so salty they were basically inedible, and a dessert tray full of dry little samples that tasted like they'd been sitting around for days. Why even serve it? Service didn't help either. Not even close. Plates were dropped off like we were invisible. No eye contact, barely stopping at the table, zero warmth, and the vibe was basically "here, take it." If you don't want to work New Year's Eve, I get it, nobody does. But then don't show up and act annoyed while people are paying premium prices for a supposed experience. Bottom line: fun party, great DJ, amazing midnight fireworks moment. Everything else felt like a premium-priced disappointment. I won't be back, and honestly, there are better options almost anywhere in NYC.

I liked the ambience here, lots of lights and the interior is absolutely beautiful! We were sitting outdoors, which made it even nicer. The service was superb: everyone was very kind, attentive, and helpful. The food was quite good and beautifully plated. We started with honey roasted figs and also tried the roasted baby octopus, followed by grilled whole fish and pan-roasted sea bass for the mains, and finished with a delicious cherry meringue tart. Had a great experience, I'll definitely be coming back!

Lovely atmosphere-outdoor seating, great menu option, large servings and decent prices. Service was frequent with checking in and filling water or drinks.

Tavern on the Green Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Tavern on the Green

    Is it very pricy?

My husband and I went for brunch. We had 2 dishes and 2 drinks, and the bill was a little over $100. I'm from NC, so for me, that's expensive, but it was about average for what we paid for meals during the weekend in the city.

Last year we attended a lovely salsa night including dinner, music and dancing on the outdoor patio. Will you offer that again this year as a kick-off to Hispanic Heritage Month?

Salsa nights at Tavern (TOTG) we were there and the food/Wine was wonderful! Will you be offering us dancing again for Spring time?

Is valet parking free or how much does it cost?

There is no free parking. If you're in town, it's a lovely walk.

Is the patio / to go outdoor seating an area with a waiter? We were planning to have lunch here on our biggest walking day and I was planning to wear black leggings and a white tee. Would we still be served like normal just on the patio?

    Sounds good to me.

Is this a kid friendly place for dinner or brunch?

    Absolutely!

Is the bar upstairs still open? I can't recall the name but it was like a cozy hunting lodge.

I do not think they kept the cozy bar upstairs when they remodeled. I don't think anyone hardly knows it's there.. It was small, dark and cozy.

Have someone with disability. Is there a way to drive up to restaurant and drop off?

Yes. The whole building had accessibility features and there was a drive up are for drop off/pickup

What is the parking situation? They have parking on site? Good luck with street park? Just do parking garage?

    Good luck with street parking.

What is dress code? Can you dine in casual wear for dinner?

Smart casual as the previous answer suggested. No tank tops, athletic wear, etc.

    Are dogs allowed?

I have not ever seen dogs inside at Tavern.

    Is there a Children's menu ? Lunch?

Yes - they offer cheeseburger sliders and a few other items. We order the cheeseburger sliders for our 3 year old.....they looked and tasted just like the WhiteCastle microwaveable burgers that you'd buy at the grocery store.

    Dress code? Ti?

    Dress code is casual elegant.

    Is there outdoor dining?

Thomas. Thank you for your inquiry. At the moment the restaurant is not open. We are gearing up to re open soon. Please stay in touch. We hope that by early spring we…

What is the dress code for dinner at tavern in the green ? Going with a group Saturday night.

Smart casual. This is not the type of place where you need to dress fancy. I saw people in all sorts of clothes right off the street with a bustling bar. There were some people in date night attire and there was a business reception in the back…

Is the bar menu offered at the same time as brunch as well?

I ate here years ago when it was total glam, especially at night. Since the change in ownership, how's the ambiance? Will it still be the memorable experience I remember? Any suggestions for either lunch or dinner?

I have found the experience to casual upscale. It has a great vibe and the service was still outstanding-I'd highly recommend going again soon!

The lighting is beautiful outside, is a tent/ or heaters put up during this time of year for outdoor seating?

I believe the outdoor seating area is closed during the cold season. You can always request a table near the glass wall. It's beautiful!

    Does TOG offer coat check?

    Yes they do

Is this a good place to host a baby shower for approx 35ppl in May? Could they do it completely vegan/vegetarian? Good value for food/price/staff? TIA!

This is a good place for a baby shower. Make sure you take the back room for privacy. I was there for Brunch

Is this a good place to come to for holiday drinks/decorations?

Yes, absolutely! Tavern on the Green is one of the most iconic restaurants in NYC and is a great place for upscale decorations and drinks. If you want to sit anywhere other than the bar, I recommend reservations. I don't recommend a reservation…

However we were not rushed and were able to linger a bit to finish our conversation. For those who savor finely concocted cocktails paired with fresh raw bar offerings in a salon-like setting, this is the spot for you.

I stopped by Clemente Bar with a friend who was staying at a nearby hotel. I had never been to…read moreEleven Madison Park before and wanted to check it out, not realizing at first that Clemente Bar is a separate concept from the restaurant. We walked in without a reservation around 6:20 p.m., and they were able to accommodate us at a shared table until 7:15. The menu surprised me a bit. Since I associated the address with Eleven Madison Park, I wasn't expecting to see items like wings stuffed with sausage, which were done in partnership with Jungsik. We ordered those along with the mushroom burger and asked them to cut the burger in half for us. The cocktail menu was creative and a little intimidating, with unconventional ingredients like cream cheese and green curry. I went with a fruity Hendrick's-based drink, and my friend ordered the spicy green curry martini. Both were good. Mine didn't taste very strong, but it also wasn't overly sweet because there was enough bitterness to balance it out. The green curry martini was more adventurous but still worked. Service was mixed. There was a woman standing near us, so we tried ordering food with her, but she seemed hesitant to come over. Maybe she wasn't a server or was newer. For drinks, she brought over someone more seasoned, who quickly helped guide us based on our preferred taste profiles. Her suggestions were very good. The mushroom burger was the highlight for me. It was a little salty, but the crispy mushroom and soft bun were a great combination. I honestly wished I had more than half. The wings were okay. They were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, but coated in a Dorito-like powder that made them very messy. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd come back, especially for the mushroom burger.

A special shoutout to Abel, our server, who made excellent recommendations based on our flavor preferences and helped us discover some incredible drinks.
