Great happy hour spot, met up with my husband here since it's close to his job. Delicious comfort food. We had the chicken quesadilla, caesar salad, tavern burger and french fries. For drinks, I had a moscow mule and he had an old fashioned. Service was good and accommodating. Love the ambiance, it's a 3 level floor with a rooftop biergarten. We went on a Tuesday, when the weather was 90 degrees, only complaint is that it was so hot inside with no AC. Our group of 10 made reservations to grab brunch here for Pride this year. They weren't busy, so it was nice to have the space to ourselves, although not quite as lively. Most of us got Bottomless Brunch ($25pp), which included mimosas, bellini, bloody mary, and more. I like that not everyone in the table was required to participate, so less pressure for those who didn't want to day drink. We each ended up drinking a carafe, which fills up about 3 glasses full. I enjoyed the bellini most since it's stronger and more refreshing. The drinks do come premade, so they're not made too strong. Also, wish they had more flavors to choose from. For food, I ordered the Chicken and Waffles ($20). I wish I opted for the fries as the side, but was given the home fries by default if you don't say anything. This comes as an open face sandwich essentially. I did like the combo of the crispy chicken, bacon, pickles, and spicy aioli but this was a bit messy fo eat. Went here on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy. The pretzel was great. Nice and soft. Had good flavor. It didn't even need the dip. The fries had a weird taste to them. I don't know if they weren't cooked enough or if it was the oil. Eventually they made the music super loud when a group arrived. Lots of light woods with a light, bubbly atmosphere. There are TVs behind the bar you can check out if you're here for a sporting event. Up front they have these super cute alcoves that you can sit in where you feel like you're separated from the rest of the restaurant. We sat here on our first visit, but at the bar on our 2nd. Service: I can't remember who took care of us either time, but we have never had an issue here, especially with having our bottomless mimosas refilled! Food: I've only had the wings here and I love them. Simple, straight to the point. The mimosas are also made to order so if you want light juice, just ask! We love that! A friend recommended this spot so we had an awesome $25 buttonless brunch here. Place has 2 floors and a rooftop where we were originally going to sit but we were first customers so rooftop looked sad and it was too hot there at noon in august. We sat in the booth on the first floor (2 people), place was empty so we had privacy. Waiter was very nice and attentive, kept mimosas and Bellinis coming, with good amount of champagne as they came premade in regular size glass. Came here to meet up with a group of friends visiting from out of town for brunch. I think it was a group of 12 or something like that, anyways, we were seated on the 2nd floor. We wanted the rooftop, but due to the rain that day, they closed it off. It is what you expect from a tavern: dark, gloomy, sticky tables. Service could have been more attentive as we had a hard time finding a waiter/waitress at times when our large group needed something. The food also did take a while as they insisted on serving all of the food at once. The food came out instantly for those food that didn't come out in the first wave as those orders were "lost". I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($20) and opted for the Parmesan Truffle Fries (+$2). The chicken was well battered and the smoked paprika aioli was what made the sandwich taste great. I came for brunch and my honest opinion, it wasn't my favorite. The bottomless brunch was good, the mimosas came in at a decent time and the rooftop was pretty and shaded with its own bar. But my meal, the Chicken and Biscuits specifically, was not it for me and made my friend and I's stomach hurt. The gravy mixed with the egg was just not a good mix. The flavor profile was not an appetizing mix. The French toast my other friend had looked great though, so I would go with that if you do end up coming through. Staff was cool, I just really took issue with that specific dish. I might come back for the rooftop, but as far as brunch goes, just okay. Maybe I just need to try the right dish. I visited this establishment on Dec 9 for lunch. I've been here before after work, but for drinks once and one other time for apps, which I recall being good. It's a nice place with music. So I chose it when meeting friends in the City because the other places that I wanted to go to either didn't have availability or the reservations would be too late. We arrived early, checked in and was told we would be called at our time so we waited at the bar. We were forgotten. We sat down almost half hour later when I inquired about our seat (1 star removed as there were time constraints). The music this time around was insanely loud. We were yelling to hear each other. I think they may have upped it to create a vibe because it was Santacon (1 star removed). The waiter was super nice and tried making up for the "confusion". We placed our orders. I ordered the the steak and eggs with parm fries and friends ordered the fried chicken sandwich with parm fries and arugula salad with chicken. One order came out missing the chicken because the place was just too loud and he misheard the order. The food was good. Leo the waiter was fantastic. He made things right. The margarita flatbread was also incredible. Flaky cheese on top really made it. I could happily eat that every meal for the rest of my life honestly. My best friend got a burger and fries. Came to Tavern29 the other day for some bottomless brunch and it was a great time for a lot of things, and some things which need to be addressed. So first, we had a reservation, was able to get in and get seated in a nice little nook area and take a look at the menu and get settled, meanwhile, across the way, there was a group of girls having brunch talking with the manager, friends of his obviously, and they were all enjoying themselves, fine. This manager guy was talking with these girls, and then later started taking shots with them, I kid you not, for over AN HOUR AND A HALF, the whole time we were at brunch, it pissed us off so much, being restaurant workers in past jobs. This dude, top knot, whoever he is, is the absolute worst manager, the staff even said he's pretty awful, and if I owned this place I'd fire that dude. He even TURNED AWAY other groups of customers looking to be seated, as the place was packed, and said he didn't care he wanted to hangout with his friends. I hope if whoever reads this owns the place, either put this dude in his place and make him a server AND THEN put our waitress/bartender in his position. She was awesome, she got us all the food, the drinks, was friendly, personable, professional, and took care of THE ENTIRE Restaurant herself. She was a champ. Give her a raise. Probably the worst service I've ever had in NYC. It took over an hour to get our food, our water was never refilled (which was served in thimble sized glasses), nor drink orders taken. In fact, the server abandoned us. We had to take shifts to find someone to take our order. When your options for travel are limited due to a certain global pandemic, a retreat to a little outdoor space can be the nicest reprieve. Tavern29 provides this outdoor escape via their rooftop, which is neither sprawling nor shoebox, neither upscale nor gritty. Much like the pub itself, it is the Goldilocks of bars, just right for most occasions. I've mostly enjoyed spending warm nights over the summer here, when the sun doesn't set until after 8pm. One a recent, frigid, 30 degree night, so desperate to leave my little apartment, I bundled up to watch some stand up comedy on this rooftop. The heat lamps they proudly advertised did little to keep my extremities from freezing so much they'd shake, but I was thankful for them anyway. The truffle fries were so good though they actually distracted me from the cold. Maybe it's because I'm rarely impressed by American food (especially relative to its cost) or that I've been burned by bar food one time too many, but my expectations for the food at Tavern 29 have always been zero with each visit. I mostly go for the cheap drinks, the rooftop, and the company, but there are a number of dishes here I'd be happy to eat again, most of which are the truffle fries. They tasted like they were made in house, had an amazingly crispy exterior and soft, potatoey interior. I had a generous portion all to myself, which I gladly devoured as I appreciated some stand up comedy in sub 30 degree temperatures in November 2020. An unusual move for sure, but the cocktails and fries made it all worth it. I've also been impressed by their pot of mussels, veggie burger, mac n cheese, burrata toast, and flatbread. They have a really nice beer selection and really friendly service. On the rooftop they had each group spaced out and had plastic dividers separating parties (more for hygiene theater and we're outdoors anyway, but I think any added measure to prevent spit from flying from one party to the next is good). Wanted to try this place after seeing the rave reviews. The restaurant was beautiful in the inside and we were super excited to try the food, however, we came in around 10:30pm and were told their kitchen was closed. This was a little disappointing as the hours said they were open and nothing about the kitchen closing so early. Nonetheless, beautiful restaurant and the servers were so incredibly kind.
