Actual, genuine Italian pasta in NYC. Finally. I'm honestly relieved to have found this gem and to save it away for future visits. I grew up in Rome, but moved to the States for work. I've lived in this city since 2016 and have tentatively tried out a few Italian spots in town over the years. I've had Chicken Alfredo at Olive Garden in Times Square, baked Ziti at an Italian-named (yet Mexican-owned/operated) restaurant in Little Italy, and enjoyed obscenely large plates of meatballs & other Italian-American dishes at Carmine's. Not exactly what you'd picture as genuine Italian cuisine. Not that there's anything hugely wrong with Italian-American food - it can be fun, flavorful and super-filling. But it's not what I really want, at the end of the day. I want ITALIAN food, from back home. Something that's clearly made by a chef that knows the REAL DEAL and that won't settle for less. I've already found a few particularly good Pizzerias in town that scratch the itch for good Italian food, at least - but over a decade of living here, I'd yet to find a spot that made truly good pasta (or that serves really good wine from home). Until now, in any case. I dropped by Taverna di Bacco last night with a group of friends, one of whom is a regular and is good pals with the chef & owner (Maurizio). Our man took excellent care of us and set the whole table up with a series of antipasti, primi & secondi for us to sample (along with 3 bottles of excellent wine), didn't even need to look at the menu - he was a man with a plan. Everything was really quite good, no doubt; but the pasta is what I will ABSOLUTELY come back for. I no longer have to physically fly back to Rome, Naples or any place else on the Italian peninsula for a proper plate of pasta as God intended it - I can just come back to the Taverna in LES. We first got to try a sizable portion of Paccheri all'Arrabbiata, which was super flavorful and just the right level of heat; but the best dish of the evening was a different pasta with a red sauce, made with ome delicious slow-cooked Veal meat that just about knocked our socks off. For a change, nobody from the table took the time to snap a photo of the plate or anything - we just dug in and enjoyed it. Not a scrap left over afterwards. I could go on for quite a while describing all of the other plates we had, all of which I enjoyed, but again - those were all nice-to-have's. A second date spot that turned out to be a genuine treasure. This is a small, family-owned restaurant on the LES, and everything about it stood out - the food, the wine, the recommendations, all of it. We did a tasting menu, and the owner himself walked us through dish and wine recommendations while one of his daughters took wonderful care of us as our server. We had a couple of pasta dishes among everything else, and every single one delivered. That kind of personal, hands-on hospitality is rare and made the whole evening feel special. I have to first start off with I was afraid when I asked for chicken Alfredo, then was told they don't serve chicken Alfredo. I was offered Cacio e Pepe, but with fettuccine and I was amazed! The flavor was so good! I have a new favorite go to! The sound level was above average just because of the close quarters but I was still able to have a conversation with my friends without an issue, just a raised voice. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone that is craving some pasta or some other Italian food as the food is a blast of flavor! read more

I was SO pleasantly surprised by this spot. An unassuming Italian spot in LES with great staff and delicious food. We came for valentine's day - frankly, it was not hard to get a reservation so I wasn't expecting much but I was blown away by how amazing the flavors were. I believe the chef won chopped here, and it was definitely well earned. 1. Calamari: SO SO good! Lightly breaded, not too oily and the perfect amount of salt. 2: Pappardelle: I am not exaggerating when I say this was the best mushroom pappardelle I've ever had in new york. The fried onions and smoked ricotta gave it so much umami that at one point I thought there was bacon in this dish. 10/10 no notes. If there's one thing you order, the pappardelle is it! 3: Scallop with fennel This was a special on their valentines menu. It was one giant scallop, but a delicious scallop at that. Super fresh and even the fennel was well sauced. 4: Lamb Shank This is the chefs signature dish! It was fall of the bone and a good amount for 2 people. We enjoyed it thoroughly. 5: Carrot Cake A bit sweet, but definitely unique and tasty. It has bits of ferrero/hazelnut that I really liked. Overall, Taverna Di Bacco was delicious. I ordered 2 cocktails and my date had a glass of wine. The total came to about 200$ without tip or tax, which we found really reasonable especially on Valentine's day. I feel duped. The reviews are way too good - what could be wrong? From the moment we walked it - I was unhappy with service. There was nobody older than mid 20s working there on a Saturday night. Where is the adult in charge? Food was ok. The cacio e pepe and garlic bread were the best thing we ordered for our table of 4. What really irked me was at 7:55pm on a 6:30pm reservation they told us they have a party coming in and needed the table. Bad form for a table that spent over $350. read more

Was craving Italian and so happy we popped into this beautiful restaurant! The place is lovely with low lighting. Immediately the chef and owner greeted us and sat us down. Very friendly and even went above and beyond. He asked my partner and I if he could just bring out a few dishes that he'll specially prepare for us. And wow. Not one dish or presentation disappointed us. This was the best experience and it was our anniversary so he really made us feel so special. Every dish was just wow. I went on a calm Tuesday evening. Reservation for 4 was easy to grab relatively last minute. The Aperol Gin Sour with Egg white started off our dinner just right. Everything we ordered was delicious. I am definitely returning and reordering the octopus salad and roasted cauliflower. Brussel sprouts were unavailable when we went. The pastas were fresh. The Carbonara felt like it was made in Rome. Had a craving for some Italian food this week while in the LES area and decided to stop in at Taverna Di Bacco. Glad we did. We were greeted and seated quickly in a warm room on a chilly early winter day by the owners of the restaurant. We learned about the history of the restauant owners and their previous restaurants during a nice conversation prior to the food coming out. As a starter, we had a BRUSCHETTE which was served in two styles. The first was mozzarella & tomato and the second was gorgonzola, dried apricot & honey. Bothe styles were served on bread made in house and were delicious. We also had a second starter was called "BARBABIETOLE" which was a roasted beet w/ goat cheese, fried sage & balsamic. So good! For our main we shared the "PAPPARDELLE" which was served with mushroom, smoked bufala ricotta w/ fried onion. They happily plated this for us seperately. All this and a nice botle of red wine made for a very nice meal and experience. Give Taverna Di Bacco a try. read more

When we walked in to this restaurant, the bartender (who I presume was one of the owners) greeted us and made us feel welcome. Atmosphere was dimly lit with candles at each table providing a date night-like atmosphere. Shortly after we were escorted to the yard in the back. String lights and umbrellas made it feel super cozy. When it came time to order, a gentleman (I presume the other owner) came over to our table. He once again welcomed us and made us feel like longtime friends. I tried the Garlic Bread--which was phenomenal--some the best I ever had (goodbye Olive Garden)! For my main, I devoured a tasty Carbonara, garnished to perfection. I paired this with a Negroni. Overall the drinks are a great value here but the main portions are a little small. This cute little pasta place run by a Chopped winner is somewhere I'd make plans to come back to! Immediately when entering, we were greeted warmly by the servers, as well as someone who I assume to be the owner. I loved that he was going around the tables and chatting with everyone. There was great, cozy vibes in here! I ordered the Golden Opportunity cocktail and really enjoyed it. I'd definitely recommend it if you like fruity drinks! My friend also ordered the Green Lion, which he really enjoyed. For mains, I ordered the special, a pork version of the Paccheri on the menu. The portion was a little on the small side, but the flavours were great. I loved the pasta noodles - I'm not sure I've ever had longer tubes like that, but I really enjoyed it! I'm also a sucker for white wine garlic sauce so I could be biased. It was subtly but you could taste a whisper of garlic. Bae got the chicken parm that came with a small side of cacio e pepe. So main entrees portions were small but tbh it's the healthy amount of portion to have. You know feel content ready to hop on a Citi bike after, not that I did but in case you wanted too. Drinks- I drink gin so idk if that states my age but it was like a mojito but gin based. Not as sweet but more refreshing because I believe it had cucumber as well. We got the Bacco 175 which is a favorite from what I understand. *manager greeted the table- it highlighted the 'everyone is welcomed and thank you for coming feel'. There were 2 menus to choose from, costing $75 a person (not including drinks). Each menu included 5 family style appetizer/sides (antipasti) and then 4 entrees to choose from. I am still in awe of the delicious meal I had at Taverna Di Bacco. This Lower East Side gem has a very cozy atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and the owner of the restaurant spends plenty of time getting to know the customers at each table. My Aperol spritz was very refreshing with a juicy slice of orange on the rim. My favorite appetizer was the pumpkin lasagna, a limited fall special hand made by the owner. Other members of our party ordered the burrata and the grilled octopus, which I did not taste, but was definitely enjoyed by the table. Fun fact, the owner of the restaurant was a winner on one season of Chopped! His roast chicken and mashed potatoes dish that he made on the show is on the menu! My pasta entrée was phenomenal. I had the Fusilli alla Norma. The pasta had the perfect amount of chew, perfectly salty cheese, and the most delicious eggplant. I will definitely be getting this dish again! I loved the ambiance and the service was excellent! My friend and I split the bruschette and to my surprise, I loved the gorgonzola, honey, and dried apricot combo! Price Point: Pretty expensive, but that's NYC, of course. Pasta dishes are around $28, and you get a fine portion. Drinks are around $20, which I understand is normal, but it's still considered expensive in my definition. Final Thoughts: The Waiter was so nice and sweet, the food was expensive and good, aside from the fries. I think the general consensus was that we had a good time but things were potentially a little overpriced. As far as service goes, our waiter was very friendly and helpful but a few times hard to find and forgot to bring us our wine until we had already finished the meal which was unfortunately (but oh well, it happens).
