I chose this place because they have a happy hour (appy hour in RI ) and we were meeting friends. Note-- its ONLY at the bar. (not crowded) Here is where I was surprised...they are pretty militant about this time that's supposed to be "happy"? Limit 3 appetizer specials per party. Limit no more than 2 dozen oysters --per party. (I have NEVER seen this at tons of other places! It's defeating the purpose for the customer--tension!) Food at the bar was decent--oysters, flat bread pizza, mushroom purses. We moved to the dining room-Chris our server was very cordial and efficient. Food here was ok. I ordered the meatballs and a Caesar salad with anchovies. Meatballs were lacking--Caesar was ok--1 piece of anchovy?? Had a great dinner the other night over at Tavolo, had a cozy table in the back and the restaurant has nice ambient lighting. Chris was our server and he recommended a great wine pairing for our entrees, we had been here when it was Di Carlos and happy to find that they still offer a Chili pepper infused olive oil with the table bread, the swordfish is fresh catch of the day (never from frozen) which tasted fresh, they also have half wine bottles on Monday so looking forward to going back soon to visit Chris! read more

We recently had a funeral reception at Tavolo in Smithfield. While the food was good , the waitress ( middle aged, very short white hair) that served our table was extremely rude. She was getting impatient while taking our orders and actually getting upset when she served a family member the wrong dinner when we told her. She was clearly aggravated by this, rolling her eyes and at one point dropping f bomb as she walked away. This was very unprofessional and unacceptable to say the least. This was a very sad time for us and we wanted to have a quiet dinner together as a family grieving the loss of our dad. She made this very stressful for us. I will never go there again and it's really ashamed because other than her behavior it would have been a nice experience. read more

The past few times here have been just okay but today everything was phenomenal from food to service. Last time we were seated in bar area and service was kinda awful mostly because the bartender (with a full bar) was our server. It wasn't really her fault but nonetheless first world problems annoying. Today they have redeemed themselves. Fast and friendly service and hot, fresh, delicious food. The ambiance is very pleasant and what you would expect for a wine bar restaurant. The host was prompt, pleasant and informative. The beer list was more than you might expect for a wine bar with a choice of three IPAs on tap. The wine list was extensive with many excellent wines to choose. The wait staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good and for the quality and quantity reasonably priced. Tip: Porcini Stuffed Purses & Truffle Butter - Delicious One critique is the place does weirdly look a little bit run down. My husband and I were in the area and in the mood for some good Italian food. Unfortunately, we found this place. Nothing special, but not terrible. Our meals also came out quickly. Probably a little too quickly. My husband found the cod to be bland and dry. Not good. As for my meal, this was probably the worst chicken parm that I've ever had. It was very dry and tough. Difficult to cut, especially with a butter knife. Awful. Both meals did not seem freshly cooked. The chicken, especially, had a reheated quality to it. I will say that the staff was very polite. However, the food was not good. We should have checked the reviews before choosing this restaurant. Lesson learned. Now that we have looked at them, it's obvious that others have had the same experience. This is like an oasis in the desert. The strip mall didn't seem particularly impressive but the number of eating places there seemed to indicate that one is in the right place for dining enjoyment. I often visit Tavolo in Warwick and expected the same graciousness and quality over here. I was not wrong. Good atmosphere, good food, priced at great value for the kind of food, ambience, wine selection, and service you can get. Great for business and casual lunches, not just for dinner. From the lunch menu, we ordered the Roasted Beets Salad with Grilled Chicken, Ahi Tuna Rare Salad, Burrata Fig Flatbread, and Braised Pulled Beef Shank (definitely their specialty!). Just a note that the pulled beef at this locations seems to be on the greasier side vs. the Post Rd., Warwick location. My first time here and it's officially my go-to for Italian food! Ok...first of all, we rarely go out for Italian food, because we cook a ton of pasta dishes at home. But when we're craving dishes we normally don't make, we dine out. We used to love Chianti's and Sienna back when we lived in East Greenwich and the quality of the food is comparable. I highly recommend the Braised Pulled Beef Gnocchi and the Pasta Cardinale (choice of chicken or shrimp, vodka sauce). Both meals were equally delicious, unless you love tender braised beef like I do. The interior design is pretty classy-- modern-traditional with heavy weight drapery and wrought iron wall art. I thought the extravagance of displayed wine was a little funny because I don't drink, but wine aficionados might appreciate it! Wine galore! The price was very reasonable and the portions were perfect for an individual with a hearty appetite. Our waitress was friendly. Tons of parking available. I've been to this restaurant a bunch of times I used to order the chicken parm but wasn't crazy about it. I ordered the filet wasn't crazy about that either. We always order the risotto balls they're always good. My wife would always order the burrata ravioli I'm usually a meat guy so never really payed any mind to it but after trying a few different entrees and not loving any of them I decided to try her ravioli and it was delicious it's usually all I order when we go now. It'll be a cold day in July before we give Tavolo another shot at our business. We made reservations for 6:45 on Christmas eve and got there at 6:30. The entryway was full of people. Thinking that many of the people did not have reservations we made our way to the desk and we're told that we would just have to wait until they seated all 630 people first. We waited and waited and finally after 20 minutes and seeing no progress and virtually no diners leaving, we made our way out, hearing many of those waiting grumbling as well regarding what a disaster this was. We went to another nearby restaurant that we knew from previous experience was a nice place and we were fortunately able to be seated, without a reservation, within five minutes. At 7:25 we received a call saying that our table at Tavolo was ready. We can just imagine if people didn't get seated until 40 minutes or more after their reservation that there was definitely a chaotic situation in the kitchen as well. Certainly, we and many others had their Christmas Eve spoiled due to the ineffective management at Tavolo. read more

I came to celebrate my granddaughter's birthday. We had an amazing experience. Our server Chris was a five star from the moment he approached us. He was very attentive to make sure we had everything we needed and made Great recommendations. I loved the calamari it was delicious. The risotto balls were spectacular. Early Saturday visit and the hostess asked if we'd like a high top as we were there during happy hour. Great suggestion/great choice. Staff was wonderful, pleasant and fun without being annoying. We started with two happy hour apps: eggplant rollatini (2 pieces) which was prepared in a way new to me. Roasted red pepper, cheese, asparagus and an incredibly fresh pomodoro sauce. Delicious! Also had the porcini (pockets? With cream sauce. They were not our favorite. Sauce lacked flavor and mushrooms didn't appear to be fresh. Our dinners were both with vodka sauce (penne chicken and burrata ravioli). As a full blooded Italics who grew up in a well known little Italy enclave, I wish I ordered a gallon of this vodka sauce because I could have happily dipped bread and drank the whole gallon. Not to take away from the pasta that was light and fresh. Desserts were fresh and well presented. Biscotti with gelato (too many biscotti, three, and it could have used more gelato). I mean you could always use more gelato. Hubby had bred pudding which he said was a new presentation to him but flavorful and well prepared. Went last night to Smithfield location for a nice meal with 2 other couples, our treat. I was appalled when the bill came that a "NON CASH ADJUSTMENT" OF $5.35 WAS ADDED TO THE BILL BECAUSE I USED A CREDIT CARD TO PAY. The information that there will be an extra fee for using a credit card is not conveyed to the customer on the menu, by the waitress nor by any signage in the restaurant. SURPRISE!! There it is on the bill when it's too late to change the form of payment. When the waitress took the bill and credit card from the table to process, mention should be made of an additional fee for using the credit card. I feel that this is nickel & diming the customer . Will I be back. Most likely not. It was during restaurant week, which means it was busy. To start the mojito had no rum in and no mint. Not much of a mojitio for me. It was a $10.50 and just bad. The beet salad that said it was roasted but it was with canned beets. Maybe one full beet for the salad. The Calamari was soggy and flavorless. Don't recommend that. The Osso bucco was bland. The risotto was NOT risotto. It was over cooked rice, not creamy or good. It reminds me of airport food. I really wanted to love it here. The best part of the meal was the dessert which was the key lime pie. Mostly likely it came in frozen. It almost felt like nothing was actually made here like Olive Garden. The service was okay. Recently we experienced a lovely dinner at Tavolo Wine Bar and Tuscan Grille at their Smithfield, RI location. We made reservations for 7PM on a Friday night which I would highly recommend. The place was packed from the bar to the dining room. In fact, the entire parking lot of the plaza was packed and we were way back in the overflow, dirt lot. I mention this as a heads up to the ladies who may want to wear some heels...if you do, make him be a gentleman and drop you off at the door....chivalry should not be dead. LOL The friendly staff greeted us at our reservation time and after just 2-3 minutes we were sat at our table for two. Tavalo is still practicing some social distancing with plexiglass and other artistic dividers separating tables which is comforting as the next variant has rates increasing across New England. But, that didn't keep the diners home which was nice to experience. We ordered two entrees; the eggplant rollatini and the ahi tuna. The $22 eggplant came with four rolls filled with asparagus, roasted red peppers, mozzarella cheese and red sauce. They were very good and none of them made the doggy bag home. Likewise the tuna was very good. Pan seared with white and black sesame seeds, the quality of the tuna was sushi grade. Additionally, the portion size was much larger than most other restaurants I experience in the New England area which is saying a lot. Furthermore, the $24 price tag was essentially a steal for the tuna alone, never mind the healthy size of arugula salad with tomatoes dressed in EVOO and a hint of lemon juice. The only negative I have for the entire experience was that the salad was overly dressed, but thankfully still delicious and refreshing. Oh one other thing, the fresh Italian bread served before the meal should be enjoyed with the table side oil which has a nice, spicy kick; so be warned. And don't let the staff take that away when your entrees arrive; use the leftover bread for your meal to enjoy the sauce on the plate, too. I was struggling between three and four stars, but ultimately landed on three stars due to the astronomically high prices here. Pro tip: They almost always have a groupon for Tavolo Wine Bar (spend $49 on a dinner for two for a $60 gift card). I'd highly recommend that, because it's very easy to spend $60 here. Here's the rundown: Ambiance: 9/10 (The indoor decor was very nice. Low lighting. Private(ish) spacing. Outdoor ambiance left something to be desired (it was basically just a bunch of tables set up outside facing a parking lot). Food: 6/10 - I got the Eggplant Rollatini. After I got my plate, I learned that this was basically Italian for rolled eggplant with cheese, veggies and sauce. Was it good? Meh. Was it worth $22 for four rolled eggplants? Probably not. Service: It was ok. They recommend making reservations ahead of time. Our waitress seemed a bit rushed and our drinks came after our meal. Next time I go here, I would probably stick to the side dishes, which were all under $10 and had ample serving sizes. But when I pay over $20 for a meal, I expect really good quality food. Tavolo has a lovely ambience. The decor is cool and inviting. My friend and I sat at the bar for Sunday's appetizer special, which runs from 3 o'clock to 530. Appetizers are eight dollars apiece or buck a shuck. The limit is three appetizers per party. The flatbread, oysters and beet salad were delicious. Our server Katie was very accommodating. She recommended a bottle of wine to us when our first choice had been sold out. First she gave us a sample of it to make sure we liked it. Once she opened our bottle, she offered for us to sample it first before accepting it, but we trusted the first bottle and declined her generous offer. The wine was very good.
