I came on a Friday night and surprisingly it was not that busy which worked in my favor. The staff was pretty nice. Based off of the website, I was expecting something a little nicer, but still no real complaint. The pizza was really nice and crispy and the Thai calamari was nice and not too sweet. I wish they had crushed up the peanuts for the calamari, but otherwise it was really good. Our drinks were nice not too sweet would definitely consider coming back.

If you're from Pawtucket you know this is the old Checker Club! Inside is remarkably different. It's modern and chic. Doesn't remind at all of what it used to be. This is a great place to have a dinner date, drinks with the ladies or a little get together. A lot of options on the menu and I thought the prices were decent/comparable. (Although I do wish a salad came with the meals like chicken parm for $19.99.) Free rolls and butter (but I have to say I did comment to my husband they were really hard and not a lot of soft bread inside.) My vanilla white Russian was heavy handed (some say yay to this and some say nay so you choose if this is a positive or a negative.) The kids mac and cheese was a large portion (yay.) My side salad wasn't really side- large portion. The blue cheese was ok. Not my favorite but not the worst. The buff-a-que wings were very meaty (yay) and the sauce was good. The Detroit style pizza had very crispy edges (loved) but I wish they were a little more heavy handed with the sauce. Our waitress as a total Pawtucket gem. An older woman, who shared stories about her grandchildren with as as we had our 2 year old with us. Super nice, sweet and funny. Little snafu over who was processing our payment at the end that left us waiting for a bit but her personality made up for it all. True score: 3.5 We will go here again.

Ordered take out from here. I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. What I got was a take out box of lettuce. And a few slices of grilled chicken. The chicken was rubbery and most likely previously frozen. My husband got the filet and his meal looked decent. But I would not suggest ordering a salad from here. Disappointing.

the undrinked tea after 2 hours

So far we (me and my gf) have been here for an hour and a half. all we have gotten is our appetizers, which took roughly 30 mins to arrive. we requested water when we got the appetizers, so its been about an hour now without those waters. at almost the 2 hour point we finally got our meals. we had three different waiters in our time here so far, and ended up asking for the check as soon as the food got here. the tea was awful, i had one sip and gagged. do not recommend.

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the portion sizes were much larger than we expected--we definitely could have ordered less and still left completely satisfied. What really stood out, though, was the service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, authentic, and genuinely helpful, making the whole experience feel welcoming without being over-the-top. When we're craving something a little more thoughtful than the standard eggs-and-toast routine, this is where we land. The menu is creative without being over the top, the flavors are usually dialed in, and it consistently feels like brunch with intention. This last visit, however, turned out to be a bit of a mixed bag. We sat at the bar around 1pm, which is our usual move. The service was great. We were welcomed right away and had drinks in front of us in no time. I ordered a draft Blue Moon and my partner went with a glass of wine. Both were cold, fresh, and exactly what they should be. We started with the lemon ricotta donuts. These were delightful. The texture was spot on, tender and light thanks to the ricotta, with that perfect sugar coating. I would have loved a slightly more assertive lemon flavor in the dough itself, but they smartly included thinly sliced lemon rind on top so you could dial it up yourself. A thoughtful touch and a really nice way to begin the meal. My partner ordered the avocado toast for her main and it was as beautiful as it was flavorful. The sourdough had a great chew and structure, the avocado was well seasoned, and the sprinkle of cotija brought just the right salty pop. Bright tomatoes, pickled onions, microgreens, everything worked together. This dish absolutely delivered. I went with the Eggs Benedict Florentine, which I've had before and really enjoyed. Unfortunately, this time it missed the mark in a few areas. First, the poached eggs. The whites were a bit loose in spots and the yolks were slightly overdone. I know poaching can be tricky, it took me a while to master at home, but it was surprising to see the interior more cooked than expected while parts of the white still lacked structure. It was manageable, just not what I've come to expect here. Next was the mustard hollandaise. I was really looking forward to that punch of mustard, especially since I've had it shine before, but this time it felt muted. It was also looser than I prefer in a hollandaise. I love a good hollandaise, even better a béarnaise, and this one just didn't have the richness or body I was hoping for. Then there was the tomato. I understand we're not in peak tomato season, but even so, I can usually find more flavorful options at local markets and grocery stores. It appeared to be a standard beefsteak, and it just didn't bring much to the plate. A Campari or another variety with more natural sweetness and acidity would have elevated the dish and complemented the nicely cooked, flavorful spinach far better. On a positive note, the bolo was excellent. Such a great choice over the traditional English muffin and a perfect fit for a local spot like this. It had great texture and the slight sweetness usually balances the mustard hollandaise perfectly. Overall, Avenue N remains a place we truly enjoy. This visit just didn't quite live up to what we know they're capable of. I'm confident it was an off day, and we'll absolutely be back.
