I have been wanting to try the catfish wrap for a while and I finally made it. I called to make reservations and put in my order at that time. By the time we sat down and got our drinks and put in the rest of the order, the catfish was ready. It was fresh, crispy and perfectly seasoned. Absolutely delicious and I would definitely recommend. It was also beautifully presented. There were only two of us so we ordered the small for $60 so a bit steep. However, The menu indicated a small would feed 1-2 people but it could easily feed 3 and possibly 4. We also had the salad with chicken and that was refreshing. I would definitely come back to have the catfish and try other dishes.

So one of my friend's said that I had to try this place. They are famous for their fried catfish. So I went there to check it out. It is in a strip mall across from the college. There is ample parking and we found a spot not to far away. When driving down Bruceville you can see their sign at the corner. However from the parking lot you really don't see any signage. We entered and there were only two tables occupied. They greeted us and lead us to a table. The lady brought us water and then an older lady came to see if we were ready to order. My wife said we needed some more time. The menu is huge with so many options. They even have Pho here too. We of course got the catfish and she said a small one since there were only two of us. I told her I ate a lot. I hop it was big or I anted a big one. We got the lemon grass pork and the chicken fried rice. Started with that. The lady said it was a lot. I was hungry though. She said we would have to sit at a different table since all of this food would not fit at the small 2 person table we were at. She moved us to a 4 person table. The food started coming out and there was a large plate of what looked like raw vegetables and pickled stuff to. A plate of vermicelli I think with green onions and peanuts on it. I asked the server what all this was for and she said it was for the fish. The pork came and then the big fish. It looked pretty big for a small one. I wonder what a big one looks like. The fish was really crispy and it was good. I am not sure it was worth the $60 bucks but I did like it. Plus it came with all the extras. I really loved the flavor of the pork. It was really yummy. The fried rice was great too. The old lady had to come out and show us how to eat the fish. They had brought out some wraps and a hot water thingy to boil it a little. She told us to put the wrap in the hot water and then put it on the dish. Load the fish and vegetables and other stuff and wrap it up and then eat it. I of course made a mess of things but the wife s were looking picture perfect. I'm a guy All in all the place was really good and I would definitely come back to try more food. it was very clean and the staff really friendly and helpful. The place was a decent size. It was getting fuller as time went by.

I love catfish and some friends, well they're really family at this point, said they had a place that has catfish like we've never had before and they weren't lying. I love new food experiences and even more so when the food is good. We had the largest whole fried catfish I've ever seen. It's so hard to explain the flavor, the rub/crust was crunchy, salty And slightly sweet all at the same time. It comes with rice papers and veggies to make your own spring roll. The fish was so good, there was a sardine sauce I believe. Our family said I should dip the fish but it nearly burned a hole in my throat (thanks family ) I'm not a spicy food Guy. Overall great experience, great company and Great food!

*4.5* Update post over 1 year later! Tay Giang has gotten popular enough to the point where there is a chance you will actually not be able to eat in on a weekend if you don't call in a couple of days before to make a reservation, which is great news for them and not so great news for us. My family found this out the hard way when we showed up on a Saturday after a long day of driving and were unfortunately told they did not have room to accommodate us. But wait! They let us know we could order an entire catfish to go (although only small ones were left in stock), which from ordering to walking back out the door took exactly 25 minutes for the catfish and two plates of beef and shrimp skewers. They provided us with 3 boxes of fresh vegetables, which was way too much and therefore the perfect amount, rice paper, and many sauce containers. Eating this in the comfort of home was a revolutionary experience, and when we uncovered the metal foil lid we were greeted with a catfish that appeared to be the same size as the XL from the year before (see pictures for hand comparison) - the only kind of inflation I can accept. The light, crispy, savory fish was just as I remembered, and the beef and shrimp were both very solid in their own respects. Thank you again!

The best Vietnamese spot to get grilled fish spring rolls. Their food is a bit on the expensive side, but most of the dishes are very delicious and worth it. I personally like the grilled mussels, grilled fish spring rolls, fried chicken wings, and shaking beef. I would skip on the calamari as there is too much batter. I recommend calling in and reserving a table and fish as they tend to run out. Service is slow because its family ran and there's only 2 servers. Overall, food is very delicious and I highly recommend!

We came here on a Thursday evening. Got there right when they opened and they got packed quick. They initially gave us a small table because we were only a party for two, however, based on what we ordered, they immediately offered a bigger table to us. We ordered the fish and it was delicious. We probably could have skipped the beef carpaccio (bo tai chanh). The place is pretty small. Go early. Definitely try the fish!

Seriously impressed me from the start. I called ahead to order their fried fish, and right away, the staff was super nice and welcoming on the phone, which already set a great tone for the experience. When we got the food, it was absolutely delivered. The fried fish was fresh, crispy, and full of flavor--perfectly cooked without feeling heavy. You can tell they really care about the quality of their food here. The flavors were bold and comforting, the kind of meal that makes you immediately want to come back and try more of the menu. The vibe is casual and comfortable, and everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Service felt genuine, not rushed, and that honestly made the meal even better. Best for: Family meals, comfort food cravings, or anyone looking for solid Vietnamese food in Sacramento. Between the great food and the warm service, this was an easy 5 stars for me. I'll definitely be back next time I'm craving fried fish.

Came in on a Sunday as last minute dinner plans, and did not realize how popular this place was. For my party of 3 people, they asked us if we made reservations before hand (which we obviously didn't have), but decided to wait it out which took about 10-15 minutes before we were seated. Just by observing the place while waiting, it just seemed like they were short staffed and nobody was rushing to buss tables so there were a few tables open, they just weren't clean. Also, a lot of families come in groups here, so it did seem like a full house. We ended up getting seated in a tucked corner of the restaurant, and it took a while for us to get water and our orders taken. My table ordered the DIY spring rolls with the fried catfish, beef carpaccio, and the grilled pork chop rice plate. Overall, everything was very good!! My friend mentioned that the rice plate was supposed to come with pork skin, but they ran out, so they added extra vegetables to the salad on the side to compensate. The beef carpaccio was probably my favorite out of everything we ordered. It originally does come topped with a TON of peanuts, but we requested it to have none due to allergies. Note: we came in during 100 degree weather outside, and this place barely has air conditioning, if any at all. I walked out of that place covered in sweat.

Tldr worth the drive. Make a reservation for next time to be safe We came for the fried fish and it was delicious. The fish was very flavorful and wrapping it is always fun too. This is just one of those dishes where if it's good, it's good. If it's bad then it's bad lol. Today was definitely good. We also ordered the beef carpaccio, grilled beef and prawns, and butter garlic chicken. These were also tasty! Nothing super special but I would happily order them again to eat. I came early with my group and luckily we were able to be seated but definitely recommend making a reservation just to be safe.

This is mine and my GF's first time here. We went here cause we were craving Vietnamese food. This place is a come back. We saw few tables that have the Fried Catfish. We are going to try that this when we come back. Food was delicious, I would recommend.

One-of-a-Kind Catfish, One-of-a-Kind Wait Second time here, and it's definitely an experience if you haven't tried it yet. People rave about their fried catfish spring rolls-and honestly, they're not wrong. You'll need to call ahead to order the Bánh Hỏi Cá Bông Lau Nướng (Grilled Butterflied Catfish), which is their signature dish. You can choose between small, medium, or large sizes, serving anywhere from one to four people. Here's the catch: even if you place your order 30 minutes to an hour in advance (like we did), you'll likely still wait another 50 minutes once you arrive. If you've got time to spare, great-but if you're on a schedule, this spot might test your patience. The fried catfish leans on the sweeter side, with a sugary fish sauce glaze that's drizzled after frying. A few bites in, it started feeling a bit too rich for me. It's designed to pair with dipping sauces, but since the fish itself is already quite sweet and salty, it can get heavy fast. The oil tends to settle at the bottom, so when you flip the fish, that side's drenched-though if you love fried food, that buttery finish might be right up your alley. The greens are a highlight-crisp, fresh, and generously portioned. We also ordered the cuttlefish plate, which arrived nearly two hours later-after we'd already finished the catfish. Between the 50-minute wait for the fish and 30 minutes to eat, timing clearly isn't their strong suit. All in all, I'd give it a 4 for the experience and uniqueness-this kind of dish is hard to find elsewhere-but a 3 overall because of the long waits and slow pacing. Service was okay; it seemed like one server was managing the entire place. For the pricing and wait times, I'd say this is the kind of place I'd happily go to if someone suggested it-but probably wouldn't go out of my way for. Still, I'd definitely recommend it for the experience of the dish itself, because it's something you truly don't find everywhere- Group gathering/Family kind of establishment.

Ok let's start out with the fact that every THING I ordered was delicious. We came for the spring rolls with a whole fish and the sauce, the noodles, and the fish was fried and served to the T ! And the t is for TERRRIFIC. We got a side of shaken beef salad and it was delicious! The waitress wasn't always present lol but we called her for what we needed . This place is located in a plaza across from CRC community college and by many different vendors! So you can find whatever you need nearby . Back to the food, if you love fish and spring rolls, then get here. NOW.

Fried catfish, well freshly cooked, crunchy AND most importantly flavorful YUM!

Thank you to all those that post reviews, I took their advice-called to make a reservation for two AND you need to reserve the fried catfish dish. I made reservations for Sunday at 5pm, I preordered the small catfish and we added the beef carpaccio. Everything was so fresh and DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this place and dish-well worth it! As we sat at our table which was close to the front entry, they turned many people away for not having a reservation. By about 6pmish (an hour after opening) not only did they turn people away-they said they ran out of the catfish. This place is open Thursday-Monday 5pm-9pm; closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The ambiance in the restaurant is nice and quaint. The restrooms were clean and overall and nice place and location for dinner. Ample parking. This place is a hidden gem-although not really a restaurant to go to as an impromptu-reservations are a must! It is a must experience. I would definitely come back here with others who enjoy catfish or Vietnamese cuisine.
