    Bun Bo Hue

Enjoyable for dinner. The Bun Bo Hue had solid flavor in the broth and a ton of meat in the bowl. Meat is cut a bit on the thicker side but it's good meat nonetheless. I like a ton of cabbage and veggies in my bowl and they brought out a good amount. I do wish they had different type of chili oil. I prefer a spicier chili oil but not woot of places actually make a spicy one in my opinion. The wings good, not great but good. The batter was super crunchy and the flavor was good. I'd order again but I wouldn't come back specifically for that. I'd come back to try other items and then order the wings to fill in the meal. Service was good, nice service people and we didn't wait too long . We ordered other items for my nephews and they liked the chicken pho and egg rolls. I think this is a good place for dinner for sure. Tired of fast food and want something easy and warm then this is the joint.

I came here expecting the previous pho place to be here! They changed the layout a bit so you can't see into the back anymore, making it feel a bit closed off. Good, efficient service. I ordered the Pho B8 (Rare Steak, Flank, Fatty Brisket). Good portions. I enjoyed the broth; it was not too oily. I enjoyed their chili oil. The only negative was the meat was a bit tough/chewy. I don't think this restaurant has been open for very long, but my husband and I decided to stop by for dinner since we were nearby. It's a small and simple restaurant. I ordered the bún thịt nướng with an egg roll. The egg roll was filled with pork and had a generous amount of filling. It tasted good as well. The dish also came with a decent portion of pork, though I wish the pieces were cut a little smaller. The pork itself could have used a bit more flavor, and the fish sauce didn't really add much. There were plenty of noodles, but I would have preferred more lettuce. My husband ordered the bún bò Huế. He said the broth was flavorful, but the noodles were softer than he likes. He also thought the meat would have been better if it had been sliced thinner. I'm not sure if I would order my dish again, but I'd still be interested in trying their pho next time. The service was good. They checked on us several times throughout the meal to make sure everything was going well.

This is the first Vietnamese place that I've been to that doesn't cut their Imperial Rolls in half. It didn't taste as crispy as it normally would. I got a Beef Ball & Tripe Noodle Soup. I thought my bowl was pretty satisfying but I've definitely had better before! The service was great! The server was super attentive! The price of a small bowl of pho is only $13.25 and $15.95 for a large. You can't beat that!

Pho = 4 out of 5 Portion was good, meat quality was good, veggies were fresh, broth could have had more depth of flavor. $15 would be a better price point. $17.25 seems a tad high. BBQ Pork Sandwich = 4 out of 5 Pork was tasty and cooked perfectly. The bread was also good, not too hard, nice flavor. The veggies were really good, but not enough on the sandwich. Would have been better priced at $8.50, but $10 isn't too bad. Vietnamese Tapioca Smoothie = 3 out of 5 Flavor seemed off from traditional Che Thai. Not sure what was missing, but something was. Our drink was also missing the "Red Rubies" which was a bummer aesthetically. $6.50 would be a better price point. The $8.15 was too much for this drink. This review was based on a Grub Hub delivery order, so I can't say anything about the service. However everything was packaged very nicely, and they included everything for the Pho at home.

A friend of mine suggested this place. When we arrived she noticed a name change on the restaurant she thought we were going to - we stayed to give them a chance. It wasn't all bad but was just ok. She ordered- E6. Choice Of Grilled Pork, Shrimp, Egg Roll. I ordered - F1. Grilled Pork Sandwich. We agreed the meats had good flavor. Her bowl was quite large and big enough to take home for a second meal. My banh mi meat was good. However both of us thought there was some flavor balance missing. We also agreed the egg roll filling was not that great. The banh mi bread was good and lots of meat in the sandwich. I also took home half. The condiment lids were a little sticky, I guess that is hard to prevent but it made it feel not too clean. Maybe the soups are better? Today was average and it's not like I wouldn't come back - it's just not my first choice. Maybe they're adjusting to new ownership or new chefs?

4.5 This place is cute but super small. Luckily we came for a late lunch on Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too packed. The location is right off of I5 so it was convenient for us living on that side of Sacramento. We were greeted by some girls at the counter and they sat right away. They're nice and attentive, let us lounge a bit to chat after our lunch for over an hour. Once we ordered our food, it came out without 5-8 minutes. I got the bun bo hue and my friend got the grilled pork vermicelli bowl. The BBH was pretty big with a generous amount of meat. The broth is on the sweeter side for me, but I added some chili oil and mam to it. I ate all the noodles and veggies and still had a ton of meat left. My friend almost finished her vermicelli bowl but still had some veggies left. The grilled pork was tender and tasty, I'd definitely try that next time.

Came by for lunch over the weekend and it was a full house! We were lucky a party had just left so we were waiting for the table to be cleared and cleaned. This location is a lot smaller than their sister restaurant, Pho Ivy. I ordered the egg noodle seafood combo soup and some egg rolls. The egg rolls were good and hot so you know they were freshly fried. I wasn't a fan of the egg noodle soup. Was bummed they don't have banh xeo like at Pho Ivy. If I were to come here again, I'd probably go for their rice or vermicelli meat plates. Food came out pretty fast as well. Overall I think I prefer the sister restaurant, Pho Ivy, due to space, location, and having banh xeo on the menu. Despite this, they do have very similar menus. No issues with parking but Pho Ava is next to a drive thru Starbucks so there may be some traffic with all the cars lining up.

Had lunch here with my brother today.. wanted really to give them 3&1/2 stars but we can't lol. The restaurant itself is nice but very small .. tables are pretty close to each other but ok. Service was ok.. the waitresses seemed friendly but the staff in the back wasn't so much. I ordered the bun thit nuong , shrimp and eggrolls which is the vermicelli with pork and shrimp .. I asked for extra lettuce and cucumbers because I had split my bowl in half .. and the lady in the back says no lol ‍ So I didn't get my extra veggies I wanted with my bowl. But the dish itself was good and very flavorful. My brother had the bun bo hue and it looked good.. he said it hit the spot and he liked it .. we ordered the shrimp roll appetizer .. expecting it to be the Vietnamese shrimp rolls.. it wasn't.. it was the Costco frozen fried shrimp .. that's sad .. I give that 1/10 lol Overall the food was good minus the shrimp rolls.. I would go back to try something else maybe

This was my first time eating at Pho Ava and it was delicious! I ordered the B1 Combination Pho which contained various cuts of beef. The portion was decent for the price at approximately $16 for the large size . The broth was very flavorful and not overly salty. The brisket in the pho was tough but was still edible. The chili sauce on the side complimented the pho well as it had a slight smoky flavor. Service was good as the workers were friendly and refilled water. I noticed the servers prepping egg roll wrappers and using their phones which did not seem sanitary.

Was excited to hear about Pho Ava! They're the same owners as Pho Ivy. Love the G6 grilled pork and shrimp as well as their chubby spring rolls. Husband loves their pho too. Reasonable prices with fast friendly service. Their seating area is much smaller than Pho Ivy, but glad they have a location in the other side of EG now!

My friend wanted to try this new restaurant since it was a cold day and she loves pho. Plus she saw the sign out front for 50% off the second item. The place is small and cozy but clean. We arrived early so we were the only ones there. I got the B1 combination/pho dac biet. Food came out fast. I was a little concerned because the rare steak was totally raw and the broth wasn't steaming hot. I am more used to having the broth ladled over the meat so it starts the cooking process a bit. I had to quickly push all that meat to the bottom to make sure it got cooked enough. The pho was okay. Meatballs tasted like the frozen kind. Flank could have been cooked more for more tenderness. I got no tendons. Nothing special about it. Lots of green onions. If you do plan to go during the grand opening special, the sign out front for 50% off the second item is a bit misleading. It is only for the sandwiches and egg roll appetizers so beware.

Tried this place and I really want to support small businesses but I didn't think it was exceptional. I ordered the seafood egg noodle soup. It was ok. A few little shrimps, squid, fish balls, & veggie. Staff were ok. Small restaurant located right next to Starbucks

Walked in during Sunday dinnertime, and the place was full. Nothing breathtaking in the decor department. It felt like most of the other pho establishments I've been to. Luckily, a table was finishing up, so we sat within 5 minutes. Side note: the front is a bit awkward because it looks like you should stop right when you walk in and be greeted by a host, but you need to keep going past to the cash register. Don't get caught standing awkwardly as we did. When we sat and got a chance to look at the menu, we were very pleased with the prices. Very affordable, and when we looked around, we saw big bowls and plates, so we thought we were in for a reasonably priced feast. We started with calamari. My husband got a small chicken pho bowl, and I got a beef vermicelli bowl. First off, the calamari, while the pieces looked humongous, was mostly just fried batter. The calamari itself was super chewy and tough. I ended up stripping most of the fried part off so I could really chew into the calamari. I did like the veggies and garnish, though. I ended up nibbling on those afterwards since I was so disappointed by the calamari. I had a small bite of my husband's pho bowl (pretty decent amount for a small) and honestly wish I had gotten that instead of my dish. My vermicelli dish had a meager amount of beef and didn't hold much of any of the flavor I tried to add. Perhaps I didn't add enough sauce or seasonings (I don't usually get vermicelli dishes). Still, I think I enjoy the overall experience of eating pho more since I can always easily take a sip of the broth to chase my food down. I probably will go back to my usual places for pho, but I feel there are still some dishes where this place shines. Unfortunately, those weren't the ones we ordered this time.

The menu had a bit too much going on and in my opinion -- restaurants should have a speciality rather than offer so many items because taste and quality loses itself somewhere in the middle of 100 different menu options. I know my partner and I are pho snobs but what we had wasn't even pho. The broth was basically hot water with a tad of salt or chicken bouillon. There were no hints of star anise, cinnamon (often referred to as Saigon cinnamon), cloves, black cardamom, coriander seeds, and fennel seeds -- nada. And the noodles were way too overcooked making my dish so difficult to eat. I ordered pho and it looked like pho -- but it tasted nothing close to it. I need to share that as a reality to the owner and staff so they can make changes to the quality of their food -- otherwise, I don't know if this place will survive the competition. Also, I observed a staff member behind the counter blending a smoothie of some sort, tasting it with a spoon, and then putting back said spoon into the smoothie to stir before pouring it into a cup (and I saw the cup delivered to a party a few tables down from us). That probably isn't very hygienic and it's sad to see that's how things are handled behind the scenes here. I just happened to look over from our table and was pretty disgusted. Moving on, I hope these guys shape up because the quality and taste of food was actually bad. And, I can rarely say that about restaurants I patronize because I love supporting local small businesses. Best of luck to these guys.

Believe me, I've been wanting to try their pho as well, but every single time, their BBH speaks to me. Simply put, it is a comforting hug in a bowl, filled generously with tender slices of meat, homemade meatballs, cha, pork blood cubes, and al dente noodles, all topped off with piping hot broth. It is served with a mountain of fresh herbs, and I always add extra chili oil and sate (that they keep in the fridge) for that extra oomph of flavor. While this location does not serve their BBH with a pork hock, I really don't care at all, because of how cohesive their bowls are every single time. Those homemade meatballs are really an element of the dish that I have not found at any other restaurants, even at BBH restaurants in the bay. Located right off Grant Line in the Sheldon area of Elk Grove, the restaurant is not big, but still has ample seating. The private parking lot has never been full when I've eaten there, but I also have never gone on a weekend. I usually enjoy coming when they very first open, and am always seated immediately. During lunch rush, I have noticed it can get pretty busy, with patrons dining in and to go orders alike. The owner is so nice and I rarely even look at the menu since I always know what I want. I don't usually order drinks as I like to get matcha in Elk Grove, but the one time I got a Thai tea, it was perfectly balanced with a good strength to it. Their menu on the whole is small, but still varied, so there is something for everyone's cravings. If you follow their Facebook page, they will announce weekend specials as well, so stay tuned for those. One day I swear I will try their pho, but for now, Pholicious is one of my top spots for BBH in the Sacramento area. I really enjoyed it and our table finished the whole thing. The rice plates are good. I tried a piece of the grilled chicken and it had great flavor. The nuoc mam/Cham tasted great as well. What really made this place 3 stars was their egg rolls. I love egg rolls. But the one served to us either had spoiled meat, old meat or was freezer burnt. Whatever it was, it tasted so bad I did not finish it. It had a really off putting fried spoiled meat taste AND smell. And was really oily. Thinking about it makes my stomach churn. I don't know if I would trust getting this again if I come back. Service was great. They were attentive without being overbearing. They provided great service to every one that came in. The restaurant was clean and parking on a weeknight was easy. If I do come back, I'll go get my usual go to of rice plates. Would've given them 4 stars if not for the spoiled egg rolls.

Their uncomplicated menu lets them focus on making the best pho I've ever had. While their menu is simple, their soups are not. You first taste the richness of the broth that has been simmering for hours. The beef bones, meat, garlic and ginger work together to produce a soup base that will compliment the accompanying ingredients. I opt for their signature pho, the Pho Hanoi, which comes with wok fried ribeye and garlic. You can choose either thin noodle or fresh noodles. We always go with the fresh noodles. Their servings are huge and easily sharable. The soup comes with garnishes such as basil, cilantro, mint, bean sprouts, onions, jalapenos and lime. Some folks like to add hoisin or siracha. I'm a simple gal and only add a few bean sprouts. If the broth is good, it doesn't need anything else. Service is straightforward. You order at the counter, sit down and your order arrives in under 5 minutes. The staff is accustomed to fast pace. There's a self serve water and tea station so you don't have to wait to get refills. While it may seem like there's few interactions with staff, the set up is streamlined for efficiency. This has become a go to spot for us. It's close by and we don't have to deal with the traffic of South Sac especially on the weekends.

The broth was well seasoned and broth was so beefy. I usually will drown my pho with all the condiments but here, I didn't need to do that. You can choose thin or thick fresh rice noodles. The ambience was nice and the place feels clean. Love the self serve drink station. They had cold tea, cold water and room temperature water to choose from. You order as you enter and service was great! I have been raving about this place to all my friends near and from here. We left happy! Another major plus is that their chili oil is actually spicy just how I like it. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area. If Ell Grove is out of the way for you, they have another location in Davis that's just as good.

One nice thing about this place is that they keep it nice and cold inside the restaurant so it's just fine eating a big hot bowl of pho even in the middle of summer. - Pho Tai: Have I had better? Sure, but the pho here is solid. I love that the bean sprouts, thai basil, and lime served alongside it are always very fresh. Unusually so. I've grown accustomed to somewhat questionable produce served with my pho. - Banh mi with grilled pork: a good banh mi. The bread is excellent. The pork is tasty. The produce is fresh. Thumbs up. - egg rolls: these are unlike any egg roll I've ever had. The outside is a lattice of crispy rice goodness. And the inside has a yummy grilled flavor to the pork. When I got this as an appetizer though, it was sitting in an unpleasant puddle of oil (like they should've let it drain off before plating it). They also serve these with some of the bun dishes. They also have a kids menu with a smaller bowl of pho. Or just the yummy grilled pork over rice. The servers are also pleasant. And, you get a discount if you pay in cash (5% I think?)

The drinks came out quickly as well as the Pho bowls. The Pho portions were large and served steaming hot. Next came the appetizers. The Egg rolls were the lacy crunchy type which is not common in Hawaii. A bit greasy. Would have loved the rolls to have been drained better. I was told they were tasty. The Pork and Shrimp rolls were hefty rolls that is served with a peanut sauce. I was told the peanut sauce was just ok. Those who tried it commented that the shrimp was seasoned and not just blanched. My Pork and Shrimp Bun was essentially a deconstructed spring roll sans the rice paper wrapper so I did not partake in the apps. My dish was also a generous portion. Over half came home with me for tomorrow's lunch. I inquired what the pickled jalapeño and garlic condiment was supposed to be used for as I also saw this at another pho restaurant we tried in Elk Grove. The server said any dish! Pho Bistro is located in an older strip mall with lots of parking which is a plus. Although the menu is not extensive, I would like to return to try other dishes in this casual restaurant. I loved that several servers stopped by our table to check on us. Support local small business and give Pho Bistro a try! Don't forget to tip generously! The Lychee lemonade and Thai Tea were both refreshing and enjoyed on this humid day! Sorry, forgot to snap a pic.

The associate that helped us take our order was very nice. What seemed to be "display" spring rolls in a takeout container sat underneath a sign near the register that said they now offered - Spring Rolls! I was craving some so I ordered it and watched in horror as the cashier took the container that had been sitting there before I arrived and placed it next to the sandwich making area. Maybe it was just a signal to the person making food that spring rolls were ordered and to make some, but nope, I was served shrimp spring rolls that had been sitting there on the counter, not temperature controlled. When we asked to give it back for a refund we were given one, but we were also told that it had been made recently since people order them all the time. At least put it in the fridge, maybe. Then while we were eating another worker was mopping the floors all around us, and she actually bumped into me twice with her elbow, that's how close she was. Maybe don't mop the lobby while folks are eating. All that on top of seeing the person making food grab a broom with gloved hands that then prepared sandwiches without changing gloves or washing hands made me decide never to come back again.
