Not only was it absolutely delicious, the portions were generous, and the staff were friendly. I randomly wandered in here after doing some errands in the shopping center. I ordered the Family Combo 1, a generous portion of falafel, lamb, chicken, and beef accompanied by rice, grilled veggies, and salad. The food was authentic and full of flavor. I've never cared to write about rice in a review, but even the rice was.. oooooh so good. My husband and I agreed that the food reminded us of our favorite meal in Dubai. The falafels were adequate to say the least, lacked flavor and depended on the tahini, although the tahini was 10/10. Server was polite, and food came out fast. I was feeling lazy and tired of doing dishes for the 283739 time during this quarantine and decided to look up shawarma options in the area. Taza would always show up as an option on Yelp but for whatever reason I never went. I finally decided to give it a shot (being so close) and ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and hummus to go through their site. When I arrived, I called the shop to let them know I was outside and the owner informed me that although I received confirmation that my order was ready it wasn't. Unbeknownst to me, they had just implemented their order online option and I was the first to use it! He said it would be a couple of mins and that he would bring it out when it was ready. When the owner brought out the food to the car he was very sweet and apologetic , but I reminded him again that it was okay and not a big deal! I was not very impressed by this restaurant. I asked the server to make a falafel bowl the way he would like to eat it himself and either he has very poor taste or it was an off day because I love mediterranean food. I ate it daily during my college years! Anyway, the bowl he made was just odd and not something I would want to eat a lot of. It was cold and also lukewarm so the temperature profile just sucked. Flavors were bland mixed with the sour acidic taste of the pickled veggies so it was nauseating. I discovered taza falafel by accident and what a happy accident it was! I was at the coffee shop next door and feeling very hungry and thought falafel would hit the spot. I opted for their falafel wrap on samoon bread which came loaded with 5 Pieces of Falafel, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Red Turnips, Hummus and Tahini. It was fantastic. They have bags of fresh baked bread to go, so I of course had to get some. They also had some of their shawarma meat frozen that you can take home with you, which I was thrilled about since I live in DC and fairfax is quite a hike for me. To be honest, I was expecting a lot from this place but was disappointed. I ordered the Falafel Wrap with fries to go . The pita bread was super thick and the lettuce, onions and tomatoes weren't enough in the wrap. Also, the hummus wasn't enough. Fries didn't have any seasoning on it. I ordered takeout mixed shawarma bowl and falafel as well as Ayran to drink. The falafel was very delicious. However, the shawarma bowl left a lot to be desired. The meat was dry and the rice was very moist. I was also put off by the toum, as I was expecting a nice thick garlicky paste and this was almost watery and tasteless. Meat was not as flavorful and juicy as I was expected. Each bite of the wrap as a whole was leaning towards the dry side as well. Tzatziki sauce had too much mint flavorful. Went there to pick up lunch on a Sunday, and I was very happy that I did. The food was really good. We tried the flafel which was made fresh to order, beef shawarma with tender and juicy meet, amazing cheese pie, and we ended up taking some mediterranean pastries home. As a Palestinian, who had the best kinds of falafel in my life, I will say this was the best falafel sandwich I ever had in the U.S!! It's high quality and "greenish" not yellow in color which indicates the quality of ingredients. I didn't get the wrap, I ordered it instead inside the special Iraqi bread i think it's called Samoon. The sandwich is filled with pickles and veggies. Their shawerma looked really good as well. Just like the shawerma I had in the middle east. I did but their Samoon bread to take home with me. Not sure what to say, the girl at the cashier seems disinterested and not wanting to work, she will barely respond to you. They were making hot bread yet my bread came iced cold. When I asked why the bread was cold I was told by the same girl that because it was fresh!!! Come own owners, when ppl see you're making hot bread you better serve it. I asked her to heated it up which she did for less than 10 seconds where it came barely warm, tasted was thick and doughy and unappetizing. At that point I didn't bother. I ordered midweek lunch from this place last week. I had the chicken kebab platter which came with rice, bread and a pickle salad. And a portion of falafel. The chicken kebab itself was cooked really good, with plenty of charring, the pickle salad was also plentiful and fresh tasting. They also provided various sauces, a red hot sauce, a tangy yellow sauce and tahini, these were all great. The falafel were tasty, but really greasy and weirdly a small donut shaped size. The bread was tough and cold, did not enjoy it, just threw it out. This is not the Shawarma I was looking for. I have been wanting some really excellent lamb shawarma in a sandwich for a few months. The last time I had great lamb shawarma was in 2018, and before that - 1986. So I looked around on Yelp, asked some coworkers, checked out Google Reviews, and learned about - "Taza Falafel". The restaurant is a quaint little café style "hole in the wall" place. It was clean but relatively empty at lunchtime (1145am). I asked the girl if they had lamb shawarma and she mentioned the "Mixed Shawarma", which is not at all what I was looking for, and then the "Lamb/Beef Shawarma" which is a lot closer. I really wanted strictly lamb, the grease from warm freshly cut morsels of tender lamb off of a spit-rotated hunk of lamb is divine - usually. Anyway, I got the Lamb/Beef shawarma, with hummus, red onions with sumac, some tomatoes (with a less is more approach) and took the sandwich home. The meal was OK. I am sure the food there is great under normal circumstances but I was really craving a legitimate, juicy, delicious Lamb from a spit sliced shawarma with the "yogurt, dill, cucumber, and garlic" sauce. This is not the Shawarma I was looking for, which makes me very sad. The search continues. read more

We came pretty early and everything looked as though it was prepared mere minutes -- freshness is key, imo, in quick stop places like this. The sandwich was nice and hot. I saw an earlier complaint that the bread wasn't made fresh, but I witnessed the chef preparing it on the griddle by hand in the back so they definitely do bake it. I decided to get my elderly parents out of the house yesterday and thought what would make them happy? A taste of back home! I ordered from the parking lot & the kind lady who patiently took our order said 10 minutes. When I walked in she had everything ready & gave us extra napkins when I mentioned we'd be eating in the car. Mom and I thought the traditional lamb shawarma sandwiches were delicious and my baba really enjoyed eating a modern shawarma "bowl" for the 1st time. The harissa sauce had good flavor and a nice touch of heat. The fries are not salted which for some people is a negative, but for those on a low sodium diet like my parents, it's a positive. The only negative was that the fries were more greasy than crunchy. When we got home I surprised my parents with the fresh samoon bread I also purchased.
