I discovered this place when I was walking around. I think this place has pretty good boba and it's very cheap. I did knock 2 stars off because the place was a bit cramped and it was difficult to move around to get your order. Also, they do not have small tapioca pearls! Lastly, when I ordered a chocolate milk tea with grass jelly, they didn't cut up the grass jelly into smaller pieces but just left huge huge chunks in it. Over all, this place is a very decent boba place and I would most likely stop by if I happen to come across it again. However, I think there better places out there. read more

Great place for milk tea! I've tried so many bubble tea places recently, I think i can officially call myself an enthusiast. I always get the taro or thai tea with bubbles. Simply delicious! ROASTED BARLEY MILK TEA w/ BOBA!!!! This is my go-to place in Mountain View. it's a small store that only sells drinks, only takes cash, and is NOT open on Tuesdays. On other days, they're open later than other boba places nearby. I used to really like Verde, but after I discovered Tea Era, I never go to Verde anymore. They have a variety of drinks & flavors that you can't find nearby (ie. roasted teas). My cousin's favorite is the Japanese Green Tea w/ boba, it tastes just like green tea ice cream. I love that this place has offerings that are different from your standard pearl milk tea place. I got the Roasted Barley Milk Tea, and it was delicious. Sweet, but not overly so, with a grain-y flavor (Is there a word for this?? I would say earthy, but it's not exactly that.). For you Koreans, it tastes kind of like yulmucha. If you think you fall under the group of people who like what I obscurely describe as grain-y flavors, you will probably like this. Give it a try. Although the girls behind the counter NEVER smile, I'm still gonna give them 5 stars. Their pearls are always on point! They're not big, and they're not small. The prices are so low compare to other nearby tea shops that fill their drinks with artificial ingredients. They also have stamp cards.. who doesn't love stamp cards?! My favorite drink there is the mango green tea. It's the perfect amount of mango! Not too much where its too sweet, and not too little where it tastes like straight up green tea. This place is small and cash only. They ran out of the famous barley tea, so ordered the Oolong tea with boba. Very good tea. This place is taiwanese, since they have an actual shaking machine, which really brings out good flavors. Janette and I ordered the following teas Lychee Black Tea - super floral flavor, with a bit of bitterness. The lychee almost enhances the floral flavor profiles. I was slightly overwhelmed by it, but it still tasted good. Mango Black Tea - not as floral as the Lychee. I felt that this tea had better balance to me, as it had a little bit of floral, a little bitter, and a good amount of mango sweetness. This tea was so good. I traded with Janette so I could have this tea (she actually liked my Lychee Black tea better because of its floral flavor). I came here a year ago and tried their famous barley milk tea. I thought it was pretty good that time, but I came back here a week ago with a friend and had a very disappointing experience. The cashier seemed annoyed and talked in a snappy fashion. If it was busy, I might've understood why she was so impatient, except there was only one person behind us in line.. I came back twice in 3 days from SF. Had hot milk tea and hot taro tea and the portions were huge for under $3 each. I could barely finish it, but it comes out piping hot for those cold afternoons and nights. I thought the loyalty cards taped on the wall was interesting. Came here 2 times. First time, I had the roasted barley milk tea. It was great - tea had a good taste and boba was done right. Second time, I ordered the same thing. It was horrible - tea tasted like super diluted and hardly any barley/tea flavor. the boba was not sweet at all. I think they forgot to add honey when they were boiling the boba. I ordered a large taro milk tea for the bf, and a large barley milk tea with pudding for myself. I enjoyed the barley milk tea's flavor. It's something different and I liked it. Worst service everrrr. I asked for my milk tea to be less sweet but it ended up tasting like pure sugar. When i asked to have it made less sweet all she did was added more tea to the cup through the straw. She pour the tea in by dispensing it from the main tea jar where all the other teas are made from. Definitely my favorite PMT stop in the south bay. It's a bit of a drive to go all the way up to Mountain View from San Jose to get a delicious pmt fix, but it's totally worth it. Pearls here are made just right- not too soft, not too hard, and not too chewy. All the milk teas I've had here are delicious and made freshly with real tea. After having my pmt drinks here I no longer want to go to Quicklys or Tapioca Express or some other fast pmt place for my drink. I think Tea Era specializes more in the their tea-like flavors. Barley milk tea and Oolong milk tea taste great and not too sweet like at many other quick pmt/boba places. Really small shop... I ordered their much talked about Roasted Barley Milk Tea. Boyfriend didn't really like the flavor, but I thought it was good! Maybe not the best, but I love being able to taste the tea flavor in my boba drinks. I also especially love earth-y flavors, if that makes any sense. Boba was okay...not the best, but not bad either. Overall, Tea Era is okay. I wasn't particularly impressed. I think I'd prefer to drive out to Tea Island in Fremont. Let me start off by telling you I already have more than 50 check-ins here! Why? It's because tea era is THAT good!!! I actually only order 2 milk teas from here which is the barley and jasmine milk green teas here. I usually get them hot but wouldn't mind it iced either. They are known for their barley milk tea and I normally wouldn't settle on that choice but after trying it, it's hard for me not to consider it now. Their barley tastes very nice and it makes you smile and feel good having some. Regardless, both of the choices I recommend are very good and you will likely finish it without any problem. I thought the jasmine milk tea at 'ten ren' was good but now I'll always choose 'tea era' as my place of choice. *Just a reminder, you have to ask them for a stamp card where you get a free drink for every 10 but the stamp card expires. read more

Well, they lost my loyalty. I was so happy with this place and their tea quality. Today I came in to try a different tea and was about to order when I noticed that my card was completely missing from the wall. I looked everywhere, none, zilch, nada... can't find it. I asked the woman working there and all she could say is "I have no idea", rolled her eyes at me and waved me off. For so long I've been wanting to try Tea Era. It's always out of the way for me so I figured I'd get it today on my way home from a Giants game. I was looking forward to the Gen Mai milk tea as it has little roasted grains of brown rice at the bottom. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm a fan of anything roasted inside my milk teas. It was good, but I didn't like the weird aftertaste that lingers in my mouth. Bleh. Other people like it but that's my personal taste. My fiancé always goes to tea era and told me that I HAD to try this and I would think it's better than Tpumps (San Mateo), sure enough, I have yet to be disappointed. Picked this up on the Yelp weekly email broadcast. I went with the Lychee tea without milk and with black pearls. The preparation time was way faster than other boba places which is a huge plus given how crowded this place gets. The drink itself was good. Not spectacular, but good enough to quench a post-meal boba urge. They could do with a clearer menu. This is the only tapioca place/milk tea place I will go to in Mountain View. Recently there have been some ridiculous lines (especially in the evenings) so I tend to avoid it all together, but I do like the quality of their tea. Everything is shaken and both their tea and milks do not come from powders. I have been told by my friends that their fruity/syrupy things and drinks are terrible. I don't enjoy those kinds of drinks anyways. I'm a lightly sweetened tea girl for sure.... My favorite is the honey green milk tea with tapioca! Delicious! I believe this is the original Tea Era since they definitely have more drinks than the Cupertino location. Small place but always crowded with a line out the door. Cash only. I wasn't a huge fan of Tea Era initially because their "green milk tea" tastes like black milk tea to me, but one of my friends lives near here so we drop by more frequently now. My favorite go tos are the iron buddha milk tea and gen mai brown rice milk tea, which you don't really find at most boba places. They have a cool automatic cocktail shaker to mix the ingredients, and there's a ton of teas and flavors you can choose from. They have Five Star, which I'm sure most boba lovers are well acquainted with. It's 4 stars to me because it's not top 3 for me in terms of boba places, but it's a good place to try if you're ever in the area. read more

It's a bit annoying that their pricing works out to such an uneven number when it's cash only; also the pricing of the items varies quite a lot, so it's also annoying to have to read all the prices.
