came for sugar, stayed for tea room. we heard about tea room while waiting in line to go to the sugar rooftop bar and managed to get invites from the bouncer downstairs. entry into the speakeasy requires showing out black light stamps- very cool and classy :'). we were met with a dimly lit lounge with great music mixes, fun crowd, a great place to end your night. stepped over to sugar for a bit which is a open rooftop bar experience but it had a lot more chill vibes and seemed better for relaxing and having a conversation. we didn't spend long out here. read more

Rolled in on a Friday with a party of three to check out night brunch and had a great experience. Night brunch is a five course meal where each course has three separate options and an open bar of wine or beer. Value wise the price tag for this menu (sitting at $88/person) in food value alone is worth it, add the open bar and my opinion is that it puts you well ahead. The Tea Room is a kind of speakeasy, most people I know found it while getting lost looking for Sugar's bathroom. The interior has a kind of classic oriental feel, and each window has an incredible westward view of the city. The staff made great recommendations on Sake and food and from start to finish were attentive and accommodating, the manager/owner even found the time to come over and make sure we were enjoying everything that came out. Being a party of three we were able to order one of each of the three different menu items, if you're unsure as to what to try I'm putting my favorites below. 1st Course: Tuna Tower (we really liked this one) 2nd Course: Thai Lobster Salad (they went heavy on the Lobster, something our party agreed was how we preferred it) 3rd Course: Korean Short Ribs (possibly our favorite of all their dishes) 4th Course: Bang Bang Shrimp 5th Course: Asian Gingerbread Pudding Some tips: Doors open at 7pm and close around 10pm -11pm due to how crowded it gets, come early and stay late. Very poor service! I'm a resident at the hotel staying in a 2 bedroom apartment and was told i couldn't gain access to tea room. Never have i ever experienced so many managers that are clueless and unwilling to please guest. I was there earlier the place was a complete ghost town. I spoke to a bartender at the tea room when the opened and told him I'd come back later. Never once did he mention that i would need a reservation or booking. I don't know what the big deal is but i do know I'm not pleased with the sugar tea room management or the hotel management. The all can do better to accommodate guest and people spending money in there establishment. read more

Tried their Asian Night Brunch and it was good, definitely a cool idea and something fun! Portions were very small but the whole concept earns some good credit! The reservation system is incredibly complicated - it appears you're making a reservation for Sugar even though it could be Tea Room? And because of this, we had to make two reservations as they said they only allow 6. We then find out (after calling a few times) they will allow more, I cancel the other reservation in ample time to avoid their policies so I wouldn't get charged. I end up getting charged. I have email proof as they sent me a cancellation email and it shows well before 24 hours. I have been emailing and calling them - they have done nothing but ignore my emails and have an automated phone system. I see other reviews that are similar - so be sure to watch how they charge you. If I could put zero stars I would. Me and my friend arrive and this place with friends who were already inside with a section. At first we walked up to the hotel and right away this lady said it was $1200 to get in MIND YOU WE ALREADY HAD A SECTION. We walked away and then our friend called us back and he basically had to walk us inside. Which we only made it to the entrance because me and my friend was denied entry. This lady name Christina or Christine came out of nowhere and asked us if we had heels. We were wearing platform sandals due to it RAINING EXTREMELY BAD that night. We tell her no and she ask if we have a room here to basically get some heels because they have a strict dress code. I have been looking up this place and no where am I reading about a dress code. Quite frankly the security guard was going to let us in before she even came out of nowhere. Also want to mention we are two beautiful black queens. So totally felt like there was some racial discrimination against us especially since the group we were with wasn't black and they had no problem getting in. We had the Thai Lobster Salad, the Bombay Lamb, and the Korean Short Ribs paired with the Sweet Talker and 1824 cocktails. We all got our drinks quickly and enjoyed the food. This 1 star is solely due to ridiculous atitude from the manager Kaytiana (not sure if ii is correctly spelled). The tea room is fabulous, food is excellent, cocktails limited but good. Ambience is also excellent, as well as servIce. HOWEVER... after 10pm it becomes invite only. In my personal case, i was staying at the East hotel, i booked dInner for myself for 8.30pm, and at 10.30pm i decided to go outside (to sugar) to have a cigar (this is my poison). I requested for a stamp as after 10pm, you need this magic stamp. The hostess notified me that after 10pm, it is invite only. while i have no issue to accept this and fully understand this policy, the twisted part is that in the policy that they study so hard to repeat to all patrons, doesnt have a clause of: - if you go to the WC or outside for a smoke, you can NOT return without a stamp? Really!? Some basic common sense on the hostess and manager is not that hard to teach and acquire... I had to argue that if i leave the tearoom to go to the toilet i would not be able to get in, and the manager confirmed saying its the tearooms policy? If i have dInner and drinks since 8.30pM, AND im a guest at the hotel, after 10pm, i cant use the bathroom or go for a smoke because i risk of not getting in again? Even if my partner is still inside!? Please use a bit of common sense and teach this to the employees (managers and hostes) as ii seems to be a quality that is not present! Adding a clause to the text book that the staff study to repeat to all patrons might possibly reduce arguments with patrons.. read more

Tea room is a romantic/sexy bar and restaurant located in the East hotel, adjacent to the rooftop bar Sugar. It has beautiful views of brickell. What is awesome about this place is their night brunch. You can get bottomless champagne or cocktails along with a multi course meal. Some of the stand outs were bang bang shrimp, shitake rolls and dumplings. My husband loved the lamb chops and said they were cooked perfectly. As a local Miami resident since 2008, rest assured this is not somewhere to go if you are visiting or reside here. I've spent countless nights in the best clubs and restaurants in Miami and never had a worse experience than at this establishment. After spending hundreds of dollars and having a reservation for dinner and drinks the waitress told us we had to get up from the couch, which after you pay for 2 hours of open bar is insulting. I loved this spot, it had a wonderful ambiance and the midnight brunch was amazing. You order an item from each of the 5 different sections on the menu and it comes with complimentary champagne for an hour and a half if I remember correctly*. One drink was $30. The mojito he made me was tasteless because he made it incorrectly. I checked my credit card statement this morning and he charged me $130 for no reason. The absolute worst experience I've ever had. This restaurant is completely mismanaged and doesn't even have a real phone number to call. We booked 3 tables for 18 people a MONTH in advance and were excited to try the Asian brunch night. The day of the reservation, we received a message that 2 tables were canceled with no notice or reasoning. We tried calling, emailing, messaging on Instagram, etc. and the hotel couldn't even tell us how to reach someone at the restaraunt. We hoped it was an error and showed up early to try to talk to the manager and understand what happened. Carolina was by far the most rude and unhelpful person I've ever met. She blamed us for the cancelation but had no reason as to how it was our fault, didn't offer any alternatives and when one of the hosts tried to at least comp our drinks (a couple of our group sat at the bar while waiting for a resolution), Carolina told him no. Absolute trash. Go to Quinto instead. They were amazing and have the best staff I've ever met at a restaraunt. read more

We had our Christmas dinner party at Quinto and after we finished we went up to have some drinks, me and my coworker went outside to ask for a table and the hostess was very rude, the place was empty so we asked for the manager who came out also with a horrible attitude so I asked her why are you treating us so bad, we came to spend money and just wanted a table, we were like 30 people, the hostess started laughing at me like it was a joke or something so everything got me upset, never disrespectful just asked about their attitude. Tea room was probably the best pseudo speakeasy that I accidently stumbled upon trying to go to the bathroom. I was staying at the east hotel & went to the rooftop to have a drink or two at their rooftop bar & as I was going to the bathroom, I kept walking straight into another restaurant hidden in the back corner with a 360 view of downtown Miami & live-music. So first of all, when you think of rooftop bar, you imagine they have a ton of drinks & of course music - well tea room also had incredible food which we were pleasantly surprised to enjoy! We polished off a few different bottles of sake while enjoying delicious sushi, appetizers & succulent lamb chops cooked honestly to perfection. If you're staying at the east hotel or in the area looking for an incredible time, view & drinks/meal look no further the tea room is sure to fulfill all of your needs. If I were to change anything, it would be the menu layout of course you can eat a la carte but it took 3 of us to figure out how the menu worked as you pick from each column if you're doing a sampling menu - other than that we had an excellent experience with great conversation & incredible memories. A few must haves would be: steak & arugula salad, bang bang shrimp, lamb chops & of course a sampling of the nigiri sushi. We loved our stay at the east hotel & will be back to have another incredible set of memories surely at the tea room, thank you again for your incredible service, patience with our party & of course amazing meals - see y'all soon! read more

We will never go back to this place, the reservation procedure is ridiculous and the manager Carolina was rude and unhelpful. I run a Meetup group and we decided to do the Asian Night Brunch at the Tea Room. They only do tables of six so we made reservations for three separate tables figuring we'd eat in different groups and then join up post-brunch for drinks. I made the reservations for the first two tables a month in advance. I reserved the last one a week beforehand. You cannot call and make a reservation, you can only do it through Sevenrooms. Strangely, even though you want a table at the Tea Room, you have to make it through Sugar but write in the notes that you want the table at Tea Room. This made me nervous especially since I'm the group host and it's my event so the day before the reservations I tried calling the number provided to get someone to confirm everything. The number for sugar/tea room takes you to an automated message which provides an email that bounces back messages and an Instagram where no one responds to your messages. You can then connect to the hotel. The hotel says that they are separate from sugar/tea room and cannot control reservations or provide me with anyone to contact besides the defunct email and unresponsive instagram. I was frustrated but decided hey we followed directions, I have the tables reserved. Also thought it has to be legitimate since they required a credit to make the reservations. I got their early to make sure all was well. It was not. I found out they cancelled two of my tables without notification because they assumed they were duplicate reservations. No call. Not even an email cancellation. Then they also said that they wouldn't have been able to accommodate all of us anyway because they didn't have that many tables available at the Tea Room and that it's not possible to know until the day of when the reservation person goes through all the reservations to see which are for Sugar vs Tea Room. What kind of inane system is that? What is the point of a reservation--where they say they'll charge your credit card if you don't show--but they don't actually have to honor your plans in the event that more people wanted Tea Room than space allowed. So here we are, 18 people there to do this night brunch with useless or unilaterally cancelled reservations. I asked them to please try to help us out since they single-handedly screwed up our entire plan for the night. A person named Juan was very nice and tried to help get us tables at Sugar at least and said they would try to do something for the group to make up for the disaster. But then when he handed us over to the manager Carolina, she said it was minimum consumption $100 per person and they wouldn't comp us or give us any special deal. So where the brunch was less per person and included five food courses and unlimited champagne, we would now pay more for a la carte food and drinks all because of their reservation fuck up. This Carolina person was not friendly from the beginning and did not seem to in any way care to help us or feel bad that our night was ruined. I cannot stress how unpleasant and indifferent she was to our party. The brunch might be amazing but it's not worth all this. I've been running my group since 2015 and I've never dealt with such a difficult and unresponsive venue in all the hundreds of reservations I've made, nor this completely unapologetic and rude management. We heard so much hype about the Tea Room that we decided to purchase tickets, $250 p/p for New Year's Eve. Way too expensive for what is offered. 1. The so called, Hong Kong experience at midnight as published never happened. The DJ did not even do the countdown to midnight! 2. DJ played over and over the same songs. I brought it to his attention, "Those are hit songs" DJ? Tea Room does not know what a DJ is. 3. The hors d'oeuvres were included in the price but the majority of the ones being passed around were the same over and over. 4. I complained to the manager and all he could say was, "We are giving the best prices for NYE". This is a manager? Again Tea Room needs a professional and intelligent manager that makes their guests feel good and happy to return. Well, this is what he did. Guest write a bad review and never return. 5. My husband and I were vacationing in Florida (Miami) and we were looking for a lounge to go to, but we obviously had no idea where to go. So, we started asking locals for suggestions on where to go out to hear some good music, have some good cocktails, that wouldn't be too clubby, but that would have a good vibe; and on several occasions, we were told to check out the Tea Room. Despite not being put on a guest list and not knowing anyone who worked there, we decided to check it out. It was possibly one of the best decisions we made on our vacation. Not only was the place EXACTLY what we had wanted but, it was even better. There's a panoramic view of the city that's absolutely gorgeous. The vibe is great and the drinks are excellent. Not to mention, a gentleman named Carlos made our first time there even better; He was so welcoming and friendly. Definitely not what we would have expected from a "hot spot" in Miami. All in all, this was an excellent experience overall. We've been there a couple of times since and it's always such a great place to go to. We cannot wait to go back! read more
