Update- I would like to thank the owner of Tea Spa for calling me and apologizing for this uncommon experience. I sincerely understand how important it is for your business to have a good reputation and I want to commend you for your professionalism! I definitely will re-visit the spa in a month because my massage was great and I'll be sure to provide an updated review based on that experience. (4/19/2022 @10:12am) The massage was phenomenal, however the overall experience was very disappointing and distasteful! Upon entering the Spa on Saturday 4/16 around 11:30, I approached the desk to check in. Provided my name and told the representative I booked a couple massage. No further information was requested of me and I was asked to take a seat. I approached the desk a second time to inquire about add on services and the price, the rep said you please let the masseuse know. Fast forward after a few minutes of sitting, no in take forms were presented to indicate what was needed during the massage. We were taken to the door, asked to undress. my massag massag masseuse didn't speak much English but says to me, You get Deep Tissue. I said to her ok, I want to add Paraffin was for my hands and feet. She said I don't think we have it. I then said, I would like to B add hot stone for my friend. She said no hot stone for you. I said no. She continues to persist that I get hot stone because I was tense. I finally said Yes to the hot stone add on. After we are undressed and lying on the tak table, the masseuse tells me we are getting 50 minute massages. I said no ma'am we purchased 80 minutes massages. She said no for 80 minutes it's $30 more dollars. So being that I was naked lying face down on a table with the door of my room door now wide open to the lobby and front desk, I asked herif she could retrieve my phones from my purse. She gave it to me and I displayed my receipt for 80 minute couples customized massages. She took my phone and went out to the tw rep at the front. Came back and told me that they recently switched the computer system and we were scheduled for 50 minute massages if I wanted to pay for the 30 extra minutes. Again very confused I said no, that's not my problem, I paid for 80 minutes massages and that's what I would like. Please keep in mind, we are still NAKED and exposed to another customer now checking in for her massage. Even with my email receipt as proof of purchase presented to the front desk rep twice now, she now enters the room to tell me that I'm voucher is only for 50 minutes. I presented it again for her verification. She took a picture and told me they had the incorrect number and it was indeed for 80 minutes. NO APOLOGIES FOR THE EMBARRASSMENTS CAUSED. I was so disappointed before we even began. Pushed passed it. Got our massages, tired $50 on top of what was always paid for the couples mad massages. Got to the desk to pay for the housing add on was presented with a $80 fee and told I'm getting a deal! HOW IN THE WORLD do I go from $25 add one for two which equals $50 to $80!!!! I was being disgusted! The rep who was the weakest link from the start tells me I'm getting a deal!!! A deal how?? The only services I requested after being pressured was hot stone but I was charged for hot stone and deep tissue. Note to management! Communication is very important. Advertising a customized massage needs some explanation at the beginning of the appointment. Please confirm what your customers book/vouchers/session time/ add on request and additional fees at the start of the appointment to ensure everyone is in agreement and there's no misunderstanding! Your front staff is a strong member of your team, that price process needs to be more thorough to allow for a smoother business transaction. I'm very disappointed because I came from PG county based on the reviews of this company being great to be treated poorly and very unfairly. I deserve an apology, I CANNOT AND WILL NOT recommend Tea Spa until I get one and a $30 refund credit for the $80 I was unfairly charged! My friend and I wanted to get a massage and we found the deal on groupon! (but they also price match) It is a small place by Georgia avenue, and while we struggled with the parking, it wasn't hard to find the actual place (given it was snowing when we went) We actually arrived a little late and the staff was very accommodating that we didn't do the paperwork/payment until after. The actual massage was very pleasant 40 minutes long. You do take off all your clothes except your underwear, but that is to be expected. Massage was great overall, but I do recommend coming a bit early to let them know what you prefer. read more

This was my first time going to Tea Spa; I bought the Groupon for the couples massage. I don't plan on going back again. Although we arrived 15 minutes early as requested, we didn't get called back for our 2pm appt until 2:15. The waiting area kind of made me feel like I was in a cheap place because there were three dirty coffee cups sitting on the end tables. The receptionist was polite. My massage was just ok. The lady was polite and had a peaceful demeanor but it was more like her running her hands over my muscles than an actual massage. I missed feeling that OMG-my-body-feels-like-spaghetti feeling I always get after massages. There was calming music on in the room, but the conversations from the wine store/bar next door were so loud that I could actually understand them. There was also some very loud rock music coming from somewhere else so I could feel/hear that and its vibrations during the entire massage. My partner said his massage was very good, but he had upgraded to a deep tissue for an extra $25. read more

I am a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of Tea Spa. While they were closed during the Pandemic, I called several times to see when they were opening again. I was impatient! I was delighted when they opened again in September. As I've come to expect with Tea Spa, they were professional, clean and efficient. The therapist and I wore a mask during the entire massage. It was uncomfortable for me to breathe through a mask, face down, but this is a sacrifice I'm willing to make for a massage! I did not encounter any other customers during my appointment. There were clear signs around the office signaling for social distancing and being mindful. As usual, the sheets were clean and I know the staff was sanitizing everything. I felt completely safe and at ease receiving a massage during the pandemic. read more

Wow, I was so impressed by both the COVID safety measures and the quality of my massage - could not have been better. Tea Spa has a large hand sanitizer dispenser and booties outside the door, plus a door you don't have to touch with your hand. I really appreciate these little details these days. Sanitizer, masks, and plexiglass were visible throughout. And the massage! Aromatherapy, hot stones, traditional massage, plus intense stretching throughout - it was everything. Definitely a full-body workout for my masseuse, and full-body relaxation for me. Again, wow, plus a wow for the reasonable prices. The place looked fine and I appreciated the chocolates in the waiting area. My husband and I came for a couples massage. He was pretty happy with his massage, but my person did a lot of rubbing and not much professional massaging. The hot towels and music were nice and the massage table warm. My shoulders hurt afterwards and I probably won't be back, despite the many discounts and cheap massages they advertise. I think if you get the right masseuse, you will be happy - but I didn't in my case. Also, there was a dog in the reception area behind the desk. I don't mind animals at all, but its not the most professional. Also, when we arrived we had to wait because another massage person had their single client in the couples room - instead of a single room. This wasn't proper planning on their part. Went here for a prenatal massage--do not recommend. The massage therapist I was matched with spoke very little English, which was a big problem when I have particular pains and positioning difficulties during my pregnancy that I was hoping to discuss accommodations for, and also wanted to be able to provide feedback about during the massage. I tried to explain the medical conditions I've been experiencing and why that brought me in for the massage, but she clearly couldn't understand me because she would respond to my open-ended questions (ie, not yes or no questions) about what options there might be and what to expect during the massage with just things like "yes, yes ok." She finally brought a colleague in to translate, but that still didn't help us get on the same page, apparently, because the entire massage was then conducted in positions that I'd tried to tell her aggravated the pain I was having. (Relatedly--just putting a single throw pillow between your knees is *not* sufficient bolstering for a pregnancy side-lying massage--especially when I'd explained that my main issue was with pain from pressure on my hips). I tried to tell her multiples times during the massage that how I was positioned was hurting me, but just got "yes, ok, yes," again, and she didn't do or offer anything different. Also awkwardness both when I was getting dressed and undressed where she gave instructions and then just...wouldn't leave to give me privacy? She seemed like she expected me to strip down with her still standing there--she offered to help" when I didn't start undressing after she told me to, and then again after the massage when I was sitting on the table holding my sheet around me waiting to get up she even picked up and handed me my bra and again asked if I needed help when I didn't start putting it on while she stood there watching me. Very uncomfortable. She also stood right there and watched me while the receptionist asked me what tip I wanted to add--with neither of them acting like it would be more appropriate for me to be able to make that selection without the therapist standing right next to me. read more

I've been a customer of Tea Spa for nearly two years, and have had a total of about 10-15 massages here. I highly recommend a massage from Ben. He's very polite and professional. Not overly chatty at all. He's very attentive to your special needs and sore spots. After leaving Tea Spa, I no longer have the knots and tightness that I had before. The massages are super reasonable at about $60 per hour. They always have Groupons or you can become a member of their club. If you are going for ambiance, then this place may not be ideal. The spa is a little outdated and does not exude luxury. However, if you want a solid massage at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Tea Spa. read more

I've been very hesitant to go out of the house during the pandemic, but I decided to try going to Tea Spa for a massage after I received an email with updates about their practices in place for safety. I saw Tony as I have in the past and received the great service that I've been used to from Tea Spa. Sanitizing practices seem safe and in compliance with CDC guidance. Wearing a mask during the massage was no problem. This was the best hour I think I've had since the pandemic began and I've already made another appointment! I purchased the Groupon for the signature massage and foot scrub. I showed up about half an hour early because I wasn't sure how long it would really take to get there from my apartment. I was greeted right away and was seated in a small waiting area until my appointment time. I filled out my intake form online when I booked the appointment. It was nice to not have to worry about it when I got there. The office is nice and relaxing. Not incredibly fancy, but perfectly fine. There can be some loud noise from the driving school on the same floor if they don't close the office door. Ben was my massage therapist. It was my first time getting a real table massage, so he asked me a few questions and told me what to do to get ready. He spent plenty of time on the problem areas I told him about, and used the perfect pressure. It was a little uncomfortable when he was working a couple of areas where I carry a lot of tension. He seemed to sense that and asked if the pressure was okay. The only thing that I would change is the foot scrub at the end. I was expecting a soak, but it was just rubbing scrub on dry skin. It didn't hurt or anything, but I don't think there was any benefit to it. I would have rather the time be spent on the massage. I actually found the tip guide to be helpful, as i wasn't really sure what is customary. I also liked that I could use my debit card for the tip. I don't have a ton of extra money to pay over $100 for a massage very often, so the Groupon deal was a real steal. I'd like to say I would go back at regular price because I did like the service, but it's unlikely given my finances. I will keep my eye out for future deals though. read more

I read all of the previous reviews and decided to check out Tea Spa for myself. I got an hour massage as well as Brazilian and leg waxing. The waxer was incredible. I have gotten my fair share of Brazilians and I usually sweat and moan through the pain for a few days. Tiffany ( I think is her name) only did short little strips. The process took an hour but it only hurt a little. I couldn't believe it. Tea Spa is clean, the staff is courteous and I will be going back again soon. It's been a rough few weeks of uncertainty in life and every muscle in my body was aching. Several coworkers recommended going to a massage so I finally broke down and decided to give it a go. I had looked at a chain massage and day spa, but all of the Yelp reviews for those were horrible... But Tea Spa had as close to a perfect rating as I have ever seen on Yelp and I usually put my faith in Yelpers. Location: It is near the corner of Georgia and University in Wheaton. I drove as there was plenty of parking, but could have easily walked from the Wheaton Metro Station. It is on the University Blvd side of a strip mall on the second floor, but you will soon forget all that. Price: I paid $50 for my initial visit for a 60 minute Swedish Massage. Supposedly there was a recent groupon special, but I missed that. They also have monthly specials on their website, which also look to be great. Their prices are reasonable, especially for the service. Experience: Upon arriving, I was offered a collection of hot teas and relaxed in the quiet, twilighted waiting area with a great relaxing view of fishes. I am a bit shy about undressing and incredibly modest when it comes to my body, but Iris put me at complete easy. I had asked her to be aware of a pinched nerve in my left arm that has caused me to lose feeling or be in horrible pain at times in my pinkie and ring finger. She spent a bit of time working that area and for the first time in about 5 years I could comfortably move those fingers. I will definitely be back... and will ask for Iris. read more

The review is by someone who has never received a massage before: I scheduled a signature massage and detoxifying foot scrub with a groupon which was a good deal! Highlights: the ambiance was so calming even though the place is so small and looks a bit wimpy from the outside (it's on the second floor of a small corner building with a narrow staircase leading to the second floor). The first thing the staff did when I arrived was greet me and asked me about parking-apparently I parked in a tow zone so I was able to move my car before the session. The intake process was speedy and I was quickly ushered into my appointment. The massage therapist (Iris) was professional and kind. She explained everything to me so I felt comfortable. The room was cozy and well presented with electronic candles, calming music, and warm brown colored walls. I pretty much wanted to fall asleep there. It was lovely. Definitely a good experience, though I am not an experienced 'massage-goer' so I'll have to compare it to other places, but a great first experience for sure! read more

Very unprofessional business. Could not honor my appointment time despite 2 calls they initiated the night before and again 3 hours before my appointment to confirm my appointment. I went to redeem my Groupon voucher with a 6:30pm appointment. I checked in, arrived 10 minutes early and was offered hot tea. Sat for 15 minutes, Ben at reception complained they were too busy because everyone was redeeming their Groupon vouchers and none of his employees got to take a lunch. Ben offers to show me on his computer screen that all of the massage rooms are full. (I declined. I didn't need to see that, I just needed them to keep my appointment in a timely fashion.) I told him that I needed to start by 7pm in order to make my next appointment (date night with my husband). He said that, despite my being scheduled with Tiffany, the first massage therapist available would help me. So I sat and waited another 15 minutes. The next customer arrived for her 7pm appointment with Chris. Still no sign of anyone finishing their appointments. I check Groupon to see that Ben has already marked my Groupon as redeemed. I ask Ben to contact Groupon to tell them that I did not get to redeem my voucher. He hand writes on the voucher that it will be valid past the expiration date. Then he starts clicking away on the computer asking if I can come back Monday or Tuesday. Forget it! I finally leave after wasting half an hour. I should bill him for my time. Disgruntled and irate. I had the opposite of a relaxing massage. read more

Let me start by saying that, even administratively, this place is magic. I've been trying to find a high quality massage in the are for a long time, and one that's affordable. I decided last minute to get a massage (as I usually do) and Tea Spa was able to accommodate that. They had a deal online, by chance, that was comparable (or better) to Groupon and I booked it. Then, I THOUGHT that I scheduled a same day appointment (which was amazing that it was a possibility). Turns out, I just bought the voucher, didn't book an appointment. Purely my fault. When I showed up, though, they still scheduled me and I was able to have an appointment right then! I met with Karen who was so skilled with the massage it was amazing. The massage was only 50 minutes and I usually do longer, so it felt short, but she did a really good job with the time. Fabulous, can't recommend highly enough. read more

I was recommended to Karen by my wife about 3 years ago when Nancy Gutierrez was being treated by Karen after a very bad accident of a car backing into her and she required massages for about 3 years. Karen literally was better at helping my wife Nancy than the Physical Therapy Sessions. Karen has helped me for many back issues, leg issues, cyatica, and neck problems. She is definitely the best of all the therapists we have tried at Tea Spa or any where else for that matter. Our family recommends her to every one we know that need some "healing hands" which Karen surely has. She also has a very positive manner about her that relaxes all of us including our two sons who have seen her for various physical issues that she just plain fixed!! The weird thing about this spot is that I've visited this spot in 2011 and was not a fan, but I just went back on 7/11/12 and loved it! I'm not sure if they got rid of the old staff, or it really just depends on when you go.....anywho... I utilized the Groupon special (60min individual Swedish massage) for the most recent visit and it was the best! I had the esteemed pleasure of Iris as my masseuse - - She. Worked. Wonders. Prior to starting she asked about my problem areas and confirmed the information received from my sign-in sheet. She was completely professional from beginning to end. Once the massage was complete, she notifies me (in whisper) that we were done and offered me water or tea. The whisper, in my opinion, further validated the experience for me as we are in a tranquil place and she wanted it to stay that way throughout my entire experience. I had a little problem standing up straight when I first got up - - which is a great thing! I can't vouch for the other masseuses, but you definitely can't go wrong with Iris! I never thought I would describe my Brazilian Wax as relaxing, but that's exactly what it was. I am new to the Silver Spring area and was looking for a place to get a wax for lover's weekend ;-) I came across Tea Spa on Yelp and decided to give it a try once I saw a Groupon deal. The customer service from scheduling to arrival was excellent. I received a courteous reminder phone call and instructions to arrive 15 minutes early. Parking: I want to thank my fellow Yelpers for preparing me for the confusion of parking. I was able to park in the metered lot off of Elkin St. And after spending only 25 min max at Tea Spa. I still had extra time in the meter - Lucky guy who parked after me :-) I was blessed with Sherri to do my wax. She was very funny and energetic. She made me feel relaxed and I laughed and talked, I barely remembered what I was laying on the table for. Very detailed as well, got every bit of my precious hairs. Used tweezers if needed. The music was soothing and I even had a nice moment alone to meditate and get me in the zone. You can tell they appreciate their customers. Always offering deals. Even $10 discount for returning clients. I took a membership sheet to consider. I walked out refreshed, rejuvenated and feeling like a new woman :-) I will definitely return and maybe I'll try one of the massages everyone is raving about. read more

She definitely shaved off at least 10 minutes. Decor was not bad but definitely not worth 5 stars... or even 4 Looked messy inside so makes me question sanitation (I think it was definitely clean) Awkward end to the massage. I felt like it just ended abruptly. Would I go back? Probably if I had another groupon. NO I would not pay full price for this place. Would I recommend this to a friend? Have to give Tea Spa their props. After some initial confusion, they sent me a gift certificate for a return visit. When I didn't redeem it right away, they politely contacted me by email to encourage me to do so. When I came by this evening for my appointment, the staff was as pleasant and gracious as could be. Once again, the front desk staff was courteous and efficient. The owner/manager introduced himself to me, apologized for my previous lackluster experience, and asked me to let him know if today's massage was not up to my expectations. That wasn't necessary; if I were giving this appointment its annual evaluation, I would rate it "exceeds expectations". Mona was my masseuse today - clearly, Tea Spa brought their A game. She read the intake form I had completed on my first visit and asked appropriate questions about my areas of concern and personal preferences. Her massage was careful, thorough and intense (in a good way). I'm pretty sure I am 1/2 inch taller than I was when I went in there this evening. She pulled and pressed and kneaded and stretched me to a happy and knot-free place. You'd almost think I hadn't spent the entire day at my desk, glued to the computer. All in all, a great experience. Wow! Ah-mazing! What a hidden gem. It was probably one of the best massages I've ever received. EVER. I have shoulder tendonitis and upon the recommendation of my PT, needed to get massages on my off week of therapy. Iris (the massage therapist) was exactly what my shoulder needed + some. Amazing! She took her time and I never felt like I was being herded out. Highly, highly recommend this place. Location isn't exactly easy to find, nor is it a Red Door spa. HOWEVER, the place was clean, tranquil, and affordable. Go for their annual membership of $49. It gets you most services on their menu for $49 -- and that includes the precious deep tissue and therapeutic massages. read more

I could say I had a very good experience w/this spa. I was able to make an appointment at the same day (unfortunately at 4 p.m. rush hour time) and receptionist was making sure that I'm ok w/male therapist. I said I don't care. I was late on 15 min (rush hour) but I called them and let them know that I'm in my way. When I arrived , I asked to skip filling out the forms and offer to do it after the treatment to save my time. My therapist was Ben. And I explained him my problematic areas to focus and he did. The pressure was a bit harder then I asked for , but I decided to trust his skills and it was reworded. My pain from problem zone start faded away right after session. And I felt very good after the massage as well. I was also very happy that they accepted tips from credit cards. read more

"Decent place to get a Massage" This place is Groupon friendly, and I got the couple's massage. Our appointment was for 5pm on a Friday. We got there at about 4:45 and were served at 5:15 (no qualms there). During the wait, we were offered a seat in the waiting area, water, and tea. The venue is nicely decorated, yet very small. The waiting area is literally beside the front desk, which is literally beside the massage rooms. That's not a criticism; just a description. The outside of the building is a little dated, but they say it's what's on the inside that counts :) With regard to the massage, both masseuses had an aura of professionalism. I can't remember the names of our masseuses, but for what it's worth, my gf had a tall Asian gentleman, and I had a tall black lady. I wasn't as stressed and achy as usual, so I got a sissy massage. My gf got the deep tissue and said that it was accurate. Even though I did not demand anything intense from my masseuse, I feel confident that she would have been adequate. I just let it ride and relaxed. One drawback was that I could hear several sirens during the Friday evening rush hour. I'm not a complainer, but if you're looking to relax to another stratosphere, then this may affect you. Also, for it to be a couple's massage, you're not very close to your partner. This is probably due to providing each masseuse enough room to operate. I was close enough to hear my s/o snoring, so that's all that matters. Overall, the experience was good, but it struck me as default. Nothing in particular wowed me or sent me over the edge, but I'd recommend trying it once, especially with the Groupon. read more

All outward appearances indicate that Tea Spa is a rub and tug joint. You enter on University, go up to the second floor, past a driving school... and are pleasantly surprised. The reception area is warmly decorated and there's a separate, smaller waiting room where you're sent to relax after filling out the intake form. The front desk staff is pleasant and really friendly, much more so than the staff at some upscale spas. I asked for Chris after reading all the positive reviews and here's one to add. He gave me a great massage! He went over my intake form with me before starting, kept the chatting to a minimum, and made me feel comfy and relaxed. I called a friend I was meeting afterward and he said I must've enjoyed my massage because I sounded intoxicated. Confirmation that Chris was a steal with the Groupon! Having been here twice, both times with either a Groupon or Living Social deal, I have to say that Tea Spa is a above average. The people who answer the phone are nice, and they speak English! The first massage I had was with Ben, who I really liked. He wasn't available the second time, so I had Pablo, who was also very good.
