Tea top is one of the newest competitors for good boba in the Chinatown area and it does not disappoint. I've come here several times to solidify how I feel and it's pretty high up as one of the best bobas in Houston. I really appreciate that they allow you to try some of the tea before you buy, which I've never seen at any of the other boba places I've gone to. They serve the tea samples at half sweetness, which can be diluted once you add the milk and ice. I like all of my drinks at regular sweetness (diabetes? Ehhh). The boba itself is also quite good, though i find it a little more hard than some other places. I'm not a fan of cheese foam drinks, but my boyfriend and friends really like it. I've tried a sip and it just wasn't my cup of tea. If you don't mind a semi sour taste with your drink, be my guest. I usually order the green milk tea with boba or the oolong milk tea with boba -- both are very yummy and have strong tea flavors. My one gripe is that with all of these boba establishments around, you'd think they'd drive the price down a little. My first time trying bubble tea and all I could think about is why I hadn't tried it sooner! The first think that caught my attention was the cute wall art that said "I'm your cup of tea"! Loved it! As a blogger, this is what normally lured me in. But, I love when it's the product or service that keeps me coming back. In this case it's both. I'll definitely be back. As a first timer, the staff was great with recommending drinks that may fit my virgin palate. I opted for the Milk Foam Alpine Green Tea with pearls and a cheese top. I was not disappointed! I normally end up finishing the bubble tea even if I don't like it too much, but the Tea Tops's signature green tea milk tea with fresh milk was very disappointing. I thought I was just drinking milk. Also, they were out of boba - not a good sign for a bubble tea shop - so I got the grass jelly in the tea and it made the tea soooo sweet, even after I adjusted the sweet level to 30%. I just gotta say that this is my fave tea place to go to now! I have probably been to this specific Tea Top like 3x within a week of soft opening and plenty more afterwards. I only come here for the Original Milk Foam Green Tea because that right there is heaven in a cup. This is one of the few places I've tried where I personally liked the milk foam. I usually get regular sugar and less ice but even with a little less sugar, it would still be really good. The special drink to also try is their Sun Moon Lake Tea! All at a great price!! The one in Katy is exactly the same, just with a bigger store. I would definitely recommend this place to any tea lovers visiting the Chinatown area! read more

At first we were actually going to Gongcha, but then I saw that this place was new in the area that I haven't tried yet so we decided to check it out. Came on a Wednesday night and the line was not long. Orders move pretty quickly. The place was pretty small and all the tables were taken when I was there. I got the fresh milk with brown sugar and pearls while my brother got the matcha green milk tea. I've only been here twice but I think it's going to quickly take over as (one of) the top spots for me to get my milk tea fix. The inside is quite small and both times that I've been here, the lines have been quite long. So you know it's good. So far, I've only had their milk teas and I think it has a good flavour and nice balance. The Alpine Green Milk Tea is very unique tasting to me--I usually do not like green tea but as milk teas, they are okay. This one was actually really refreshing. However, my absolute favourite has got to be the Milk Tea w/ Grass Jelly. These two ladies who were working on Halloween night (one with a headband and one with a pink dress) gave us the worst attitude possible. When we walked in, the lady with the headband saw us and said "hell no hell no" and ran into the kitchen. So now for my go-to orders here -- the sun moon lake milk tea is THE BEST MILK TEA I HAVE EVER TRIED. And I have tried countless different spots but this place takes the cake yall. Idk any other spots that offers sun moon lake tea which is a shame because I have not tried a better tasting black tea. Another strong contender is the jasmine green milk tea. Chef's kiss yall, just delicious. The reason why I love their tea is because they have a strong tea taste that I look for in milk teas. Ngl I love these two drinks with a passion that I always order one of the two (or both) and I haven't really tried many of their other drinks BUT I believe you can't go wrong with anything here. They only offer one size, which is p much the large size at other boba franchises, but I actually like that and I feel like I'm getting a substantial amount of drink every time. Also here's a hack -- I love ordering their milk tea with no ice so I can bring home, leave in the fridge overnight, and drink the next day. Decided to give a new boba place a try bc I go to the same stores all the time. The line wasn't that long, but it did take around 10 minutes to get my drink. The first thing I noticed was the pricing... it's pretty pricey compared to other boba shops nearby. I ordered the lemon green tea w/ crushed ice and added agar jelly (I guess it's a standard size?), and it costed a little over $5 with tax. Although it was on the top 10 list, I wouldn't recommend the drink. It's on the sour side, and you can barely taste any tea. For the cost of it, I'd say pass. read more

With minimal seating this place is more of a grab and go. Especially with the amount of traffic flow and the line being out the door it was easily clustered. By the time I got to the front they had ran out of boba before 3pm and everyone was only notified once they got to the register. For waiting in line so long it was disappointing. On one hand it's nice that the ingredients are fresh but on the other my taro drink was brown and not signature purple and the ground taro made for a chalky and gritty drink. I came during amateur hour. First off, there was a strange, non-food odor when I first walked in. Second, I told the guy my order, then he proceeds to walk off with zero communication. A few seconds later, a girl takes over and I give my order to her again. Third, there's five employees crowding the front area and none of them seem to know what's going on, so of course, there's confusion and a lot of standing around. I was amazed my order actually came out of the kitchen without errors. The taro milk tea is bad. Well, if you like bits of taro (not chunks or a taro paste, but actual tiny bits), you might think it's ok. The sun lake milk tea (or something lake milk tea) was ok, but the strange odor that I smelled seemed to be inside the boba. That was disturbing, because like I said before, it was a non-food odor. Having read about how some cheap boba contain non-food materials in them, I felt a little sick. I told myself there was something wrong with that batch, like something fell in there that shouldn't have and contaminated it, but if you have the same experience, it's safe to say they don't use quality products. There are so many boba choices in this area that you can afford to be very picky about where your hard earn dollars are spent. I gave them two stars because it was painfully obvious that I had come at the wrong time and a more competent crew would probably have provided both better service and product...hopefully. Another great tea shop/boba tea shop addition to Houston Chinatown. It is a little small inside, but there's seating available. They have a wide selection of tea to choose from, and they do a great job of bringing out the unique flavors of every tea without any added flavoring. Their boba is made very sweet already, so I've been getting their drinks at 30% sugar, and that is sometimes too sweet for me still. I would highly recommend the sun moon lake tea; it is a different black tea that hails from Taiwan and is delicious. Also, there's an option for fresh milk with your milk tea versus regular (which I believe is the powder). Fresh milk tastes better in my opinion but will cost an extra $1.00. I think Tea Top is pretty great and can give the other great boba tea shops in Dun Huang a run for their money, but I wouldn't say that it is significantly better. One negative I will say is that they run out of boba pretty quickly; I think they haven't quite calibrated how much to make in a day given that they are so new. So beware if you plan to go soon! read more

Not really life changing. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Pretty average milk tea flavors. Docked a star because they don't have lavender milk tea! The foam top isn't much to rave about either, I do not see the hype. If you are lucky to find parking in that plaza, and just so happen to be craving boba, sure, why not. But to drive 20~ minutes out, and fight for parking, and pay close to 12$ for two drinks.. I'll pass! read more

Another boba place in Chinatown! However, this one stands out to me because their boba to milk tea ratio is perfect. Their boba is nice and chewy and they don't have the weird film around it from being overcooked. For the actual milk tea, I got the tiger milk tea, and it was basic, dull on the sweetness, I liked it because I wasn't feeling a super sweet drink that day. I heard the brown sugar one is a good balance. My boyfriend got the green tea with milk foam and it was pretty good! I don't really like milk foam, but they do it right at Teatop. How can a tapioca place doesn't do "half sweet"? Sure, you don't add fructose into the drinks, but the flavored syrup is naturally sweet. It's your job to know when to lessen the syrup and to just add more tea. Don't say "oh we don't do half sweet here because we don't add any sugar into the drinks. Just got done eating and decided to get a drink to top off the night. We got here at 9pm and waited in line for about 15-20min to placed our order. When we got to the cashier, most of there top ten drink was sold out and there was no boba left. It would have been great to be made aware of this while I was standing in line. I would have not wasted my time waiting for just a plain green tea with no boba options. Probably the only place to get cold brewed oolong that tastes good. The hot brew not so much. The sun moon lake tea tastes horrible or too strong while hot. Stick with cold if you can. Their cheese foam is thick, salty and cheesy unlike most places. You get savings after each purchase. I usually stick with the cold brewed teas. The rest fall flat. read more
