Teabo Cafe has become an instant fave, namely because of their friendly and quick service (which is so hard to find at these sort of places). They actually care about their customers, as evidenced by the fact that you can fill out a "comment card" in the store and that they actually display some of the suggestions. Their popcorn chicken is worth ordering, the texture and taste is unique and yummy. Also their milk tea is comparable, if not better, than OTH and Quickly's. Overall, the cafe is very clean, lots of tables, plenty of parking outside, and they accept credit cards for any amount. The one thing I'd have to say is that it isn't much of a "cafe". Their food menu is not as extensive as OTH's and it looks more like snack foods (3 kinds of fries, popcorn chicken, and cup noodles). Pros French Fries: I ordered the garlic fries and just by the first bite I could tell it was made on the spot. The fresh diced garlic made it even better. I would definitely return to try their Thai fries and popcorn chicken. Portions: I really like their two portion sizes, it's great for sharing especially if you're a student on a budget and plus the prices are affordable. Peach tea: I got the peach green tea with lychee jelly and finished the whole thing and it goes great with their savory snacks. Cons: Milk tea: the milk tea was just alright nothing special and it had a powdery aftertaste which I'm not fond of. Why haven't I written a review for this place yet?!!! Can't believe it! Teabo is my go to boba place in Davis. Yes there aren't that many. But I feel like it's the best out of the three: Old Teahouse, Quicklys and Teabo. Pros: the setting, close to all the apartments, friendly staff, great variety for drinks. They have games! And Korean music playing all the time :) Cons: one stamp per order for drinks, not one stamp per drink :(. Service can be a little slow when it's super busy. Sometimes depending on who is making your drink, it'll taste different. My usual order is the Mango Peach Green Tea with lychee jelly! It's super refreshing if you're feeling a little parched. It just hits the spot. Their boba is really good too, but not as sweet as I hope it to be. Another drink I usually get is the Almond Black Milk Tea which is spot on, as well as their Honeydew Blizzard and Red Bean Blizzard. Something I've only tried once was the Banana Black Milk Tea. I actually really liked this drink too so if you're down to try something new on the menu, I'd definitely go for that. The food here is a little on the pricier side. Unless I'm sharing with people, I try not to get the food. But when I do, I get their chicken katsu or their popcorn chicken. I absolutely am in love with aloe vera jelly in my milk tea!! Last night there was a $1 milk tea deal from 6PM to 2AM, and I believe they had other deals earlier that day. Very B U S Y! One of my favorite milk tea places in the Davis area. A little out of the way in Davis but worth the drive for what they have. Milk tea here is great because they use actual tea leaves. You can even smell the leaves up front in these little containers. But I don't come for the milk tea. Great that they use real tea leaves but the milk tea is too milky for my taste. The red bean blizzard is absolutely the best though!!! Not on the menu so you have to ask for it. I also get it with soy milk for a little added sweetness that seems to blend perfectly. Popcorn chicken here is also a hit. Good portion, seasoning is good, chicken pieces are big, and there isn't a bunch of breading or anything extra. This is my favorite spot in Davis, and one of the only things that I truly missed from Davis and wish were in SF. To create a really great place in Davis or anywhere for that matter, you need to know how to attract the right audience to complete your goals when opening an establishment. Going to Teabo is like going over to a friend's house to play board games and have loud and joyous conversations over great food and drinks (non-alcoholic). Teabo really has gotten the social pub science down to a tee. I always get the half sweetened taro with red bean milk tea, and it never disappoints. However, one time in a million, they might not get it right, but they will always gladly replace the drink with another one if I ask. Also, their Thai Fries are bomb, and every attempt that I've tried to make at home is never quite the same. They can also be had at a reasonable price because whenever I try to make it at home, with all the ingredients that I end up putting in it, the fries also cost me ~$3.50 to make. The environment is priority number one in this place. Their food and drinks are a welcome addition to make your stay more inviting. It's nice that South Davis finally has a place for tapioca! I saw this place a few days before Winter Break, and finally stepped in this past weekend for a drink. Some notes: 1. Their small (see: normal-sized) drinks are $2.50 each, flat. No extra tax, which is nice. The boba is also free, unlike some other tapioca places. You can get a large for $3.50. 2. They have 10 flavors, which is nice. I like having a limited number of flavors because it makes it easier to choose. So far, I've tried the regular milk tea and the "chotaro" (chocolate+taro) milk tea. 3. The place is similar to other tapioca places. Lots of tables and TVs playing random Asian music videos. It's pretty empty - people seem to just order their drinks and leave, rather than sit down and hang out at the place. 4. The regular boba milk tea is pretty bland. It tastes almost like really sugary Vitasoy. I taste the milk, but it doesn't seem like there's much tea in it at all. 5. The chotaro milk tea was really, really good! What a combination. I like taro milk tea, and the chocolate adds a little something to the drink. It's probably my new favorite combination. :) 6. Get less sweet. The drinks are way sweeter and richer than I'm used to. Hopefully with some time, people will start hearing about this place and it won't be so empty. They also have a suggestion box, so hopefully their drinks get better in the future. Hmm, I've came here a few times before and have not really liked their milk tea. Something about the taste just isn't like the other milk tea's. I assume that they use those syrup with the pumps for the flavorings, because they have a whole lot sitting in the drink area behind the counter. If anything that's better than powder...I guess? Man between Mandro and Teabo, I am not sure which boba place I like better. Both of them are the two best boba places in Davis in my opinion. Teabo is great because it is consistent. Every drink is pretty good every single time. They offer a wide range of customizable teas, including my favorite honey green milk tea. They have some unique flavors like the chotaro (chocolate and taro) and have a secret menu (Asian gasoline anyone?) Their boba is also honey boba!! The boba' texture is pretty good and tends to be on the softer side. You can customize the sweetness level and the amount of ice (I always get less ice.) The tea isn't very strong but the flavors are good. The food is pretty ok. Nothing to write home about and tends to be more Americanized than other boba places. However they are freshly prepare which is a plus! This place can get pretty crowded late at night so expect a line. It can get a bit cramped since they don't have much room. The interior is very nice and they provide games for people to play. The tv screens show music videos or slideshows of their frequent customers. They also are a great place for fundraisers! Service is pretty quick most of the time when you're getting just drinks, but the food will take a while. I've only tried the popcorn chicken and the large size is definitely a lot for two people. The popcorn chicken is good but pretty greasy. It's also not the type of popcorn chicken you'd expect if you're looking for something like the basil popcorn chicken that you get at T4, etc. The chicken pieces are bigger and fattier. The main reason I'm writing this review and subtracting stars is the fact that in order to get a decent amount of boba to tea ratio you have to order double boba (an extra $.50). Otherwise you'll be left with milk tea and no boba maybe half-way through your drink. With the vast improvement from the day that this shop opened, I am greatly impressed with their drinks and service now. Instead of having to drive all the way near campus to Old Teahouse or north davis for Quickly's, South Davians can enjoy their boba drinks conveniently in South! Their popcorn chicken is my favorite compared to most places, it's a perfectly fried, crispy and meat is tender (I like it a little better than Quickly's). I always get a Taro Milk Tea or a Passion Fruit Green Tea with mango stars or aloe. I was skeptical with the milk teas at first when they had their grand opening, but I'm sure it's much better now. This used to be my go to spot for boba back when there was only this and old tea house but since then, Davis got so many more boba options. The nice thing is that they open till 2am and serve food up till 1am. The place is very spacious with lots of tables so you can sit to chill with friends. When I brought it to one of the workers attention, they quickly remade me another one. My favorite snack at this place is definitely the Thai fries. I unfortunately haven't tried anything else, again I stick to what I know and like. The fries are nice and crispy, almost like in n out but not quite. It's also really spicy and flavorful from the sweet chili sauce. They put tons of chopped garlic and fresh basil as well. They do put A LOT of garlic, so if you're not a fan of garlic be cautious of this. The flavors can be a bit much after you're halfway through but just save it for later. Their portions are very big. The small size can definitely feed 2-3 people and it's decently priced. I wouldn't recommend this place for studying. I personally don't enjoy their music selection here, but it's just a minor thing. This place is cool to come and just play some of their games and get a snack. They're also open really late which is a plus. Can get busy here and there but not too bad. Unlike other places, Teabo stays open until 2am every single day, which makes it a great place for a late-night snack. They have games and cards to play while you sit and drink. But seating is scarce, as this place gets crowded and people will move around chairs to squeeze a large party around a small table. Their boba is mediocre at best and very inconsistent. I usually always order mango black tea with 50% sweetness, and on many different occasions, it's either still way to sweet or extremely bland. Although, Teabo has a nice policy where if you're dissatisfied with your drink, they'll make you a new one free of charge. They have a decent snack selection - my favorites are their popcorn chicken, thai fries and fried mushrooms. While their drinks come out almost immediately, their food seemingly takes forever to come out, like ~20 minutes, by which I'm usually finished with my drink. Teabo is where my heart is in Davis. Prior to all these other boba places opening up, like SnoCrave, MandRo, and ShareTea, Teabo was the place to go. Teabo prides itself in having fresh and quality snacks, and I have to agree with them. This is the best place in Davis to get popcorn chicken. Now, don't expect the kind of popcorn chicken that you get from Quickly's or Old Tea House that's soaked in oil and is just coated in breadding. No, expect semi-oily chicken, with a thin coating, and a delicious meat in every bite. I crave Teabo popcorn chicken all the time! And now that I'm back in the Bay, I don't know where to find chicken like Teabo's. :( You can even make a meal out of it by adding rice for a couple extra bucks. I also really enjoy their Thai fries. I don't know what it is, but it's just SUPER spicy. No freaking joke. The only complaint I'd have to have about the fries, are the fries itself. They're not as starchy as I'd like my fries to be, so they don't have that soft, potato-ness that you look for when you bite in to a french fry. Their spicy ranch? mayo? and sweet chili sauces are the best! And I think it really brings together all of the snacks that you can find here. I also love getting a Rose Green Tea from here during the Spring, because that's unfortunately the only time it's available. As a relatively long time customer who's come here with friends on and off for the past 2-3 years, I feel the quality has dropped significantly as of recently. Not only poor customer service (two friends ordered macaroni salad which was apparently sold out, but still rung up) bit also just that their snacks aren't the quality they used to. Our popcorn chicken was lukewarm as well as the french fries, not to mention that there were tons of batter crumbs as well. The mushrooms as well were a majority batter and lukewarm, as expected. While the drinks were well made, it was just a bit disappointing to see such poor customer service. I do understand that there was a rush so it's expected to be a long wait time, but I think more communication could've occurred. read more
