Tuesday is INCREDIBLE!!! I won't go to anyone else. She asks all kinds of questions about what you like about your hair, what you don't, how you want to feel when you look in the mirror, what activities you do, etc. She interviewed me for about 15 minutes before she ever touched my hair. Friendly, really listens to exactly what you want, stands by her work and was raised in a salon her parents owned. Well worth the drive, she even told me about all the best places to grab veg food around the super cute little area!! I have wavy hair and she works with your natural curves and flips and accentuates or helps conceals the things you love and don't. She also kept notes on how she cut it for next time. I'm sure there are some great stylists working at this salon. Tuesday (yes, this is her name) is not one of them. PLEASE BEWARE. She used a razor to cut my hair and had no idea what she was doing. I should have known is was a bad sign when she cut my hair with my face away from the mirror, as I could not see what she was doing. Make no mistake, I cried for hours when I got home and realized how bad my hair looked. Keep in mind, I have had black hair, red hair, platinum hair and even a shaved head. I am not scared of big change. I just have never had a haircut this bad before. EVER. Make sure you you book your appointment with someone experienced. Tuesday is not. For those who want the short version got the best haircut of my life from Brice Cochran at Teal. For those who want the long version... My friend and I were just in Portland for a few days. It was late in the afternoon and on a whim I decided I wanted a haircut. Sellwood has tons of salons and so we walked into the first one we passed. The lady there looked like we had just run over her cat when I asked if they took walk-ins. The second salon was more accommodating but still could not see me during my 4 day visit. We were passing Teal when Brice asked if he colds help us, I asked if they took walk-ins, he said of course! Tuesday is the sweetest girl I know, she truly listens to what you need, gives you a sincere advice and gets amazing word done! Ryan and the rest of the crew are very friendly too. When I booked an appointment for a cut and color, I asked for an experienced stylist. The rate for the cut was to be $10 over what a jr. stylist would get. I was given an appointment with Janelle. As I entered the shop, I was greeted by two women at once in such a confusion of introductions that I wasn't sure what was going on. As it turns out, color is done by one stylist and a cut by a different stylist. Janelle did my color and she did a beautiful job. I'd give her 4 stars, easily. However, Tuesday did the cut. Tuesday isn't old enough to possibly have the 10 years experience I was told my stylist would have. She is no more than 21. However, she did the cut and I was charged for the ore experienced stylist. I wouldn't have minded if the cut was good, but it was very mediocre. She asked a lot of questions and then did exactly what I told her were my biggest problems with stylists -- she left obvious corners (where two parts of the hair don't blend) and left one side longer than the other. I have difficulty trusting a new stylist and would never have opted for two different women to work on my hair, if I had been told. But I wasn't told and the tactic seemed a bit like 'bait and switch', particularly since I was charged too much for the haircut I was given. read more

Just went to Teal for the first time, and got my hair cut by Tuesday. It was really delightful...Tuesday is bubbly, knowledgeable and looks like a young Joan from Mad Men. In addition to a great cut and color, she gave me an awesome fun tutorial on quick ways to style my hair in the morning. (P.S. Spray your hairbrush with hairspray). Thank goodness for this salon and their ability to not only book me an appointment last minute, but also to fix my color beautifully! I had the unfortunate luck of trying to bleach over purple hair at home and ended up with sea foam green/blonde. Normally, I could have lived with this for a few weeks, but I was starting a new job the next week and needed a fix quick! I called Teal after seeing their amazing reviews and they booked me an appointment for later in the afternoon. When I came in everyone immediately put me at ease, assuring me that my color could be corrected. DeAnnalyn, the owner, put red (close to my natural color) to correct all of the craziness that was happening in my hair, and it turned out so much better than I ever could have hoped for! She was so thorough with the process, and when it turned out a bit too bright at first she toned it down quickly and it looked great! She is amazing with color and even now a week later it's fading perfectly just the way she said it would. The best part was it was less than $200 to correct my color (20% tip included)! I was expecting to pay upwards of $250 because of how many different colors I had going on. I'm so happy that I got to come into this salon and experience their lovely service! I'm just sad I won't be able to go back to them as I live out of state now. Definitely go here for color. I walked in one afternoon and was immediately greeted by the owner, DeAnnalyn, and her client, both who proceeded to not only welcome me to the city with genuine warmth, but also provided an awesome list of suggested restaurants and area sites to check out. I made an appointment and returned to find DeAnnalyn just as gracious as before, and the time she spent getting to know me -- my personality as well as my preferences -- led to the BEST cut, color-fix, and overall experience that I can honestly remember. I'm not a particularly picky person about my hair. It's very long and I get it trimmed maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I switch stylists based on where I live and return to them while they're still convenient. Being that I'm now on this side of town, I went to Teal. This is the first and only haircut I've ever HATED in my adult life. It's blunt, heavy, and one side is obviously longer then the other. When I met the stylist, she didn't shake my hand or introduce herself or ask my name, which felt off, but then ran into this list of super awkward, cheesy questions like "If your hair was a ROAD sign, what would you want it to say?". I'm not even kidding. It should have been a red flag. I had even had inspirational photos on my phone of how I wanted my hair to look, but was never given an opportunity to show them so busy with these ridiculous questions I forgot. It was expensive and disappointing. I left town that night, and by the time I was back 2 weeks later it felt a bit weird to go in and complain and ask them to fix it. I wouldn't have bothered to leave a review, but they keep spamming my e-mail inbox and it's finally just been a reminder that I should share my story before others have the same misfortune. read more
