Wonderful learning experiences here! You get to test your fears and your stenghts while working amongst a team. I work for Living Spaces and our team came here for some team building experiences. I have to say we all learned lots of new things about each other. How to work as a successful group powering thru the rope courses. How to communicate better with each other. How to listen and accept one another. How to respect one another. And just basically team bonding at its best. The instructors were very patient, informative, and reassuring. Although I have not used them yet,, I was impressed with the site setup, vision, and goals of the program. The staff are masterful at blending professionalism, creativity, care into each facilitation experience. My team and I (we are affordable housing developers) had THE best time working with Doug and his team. It was a wonderful 4 hour experience that started with some team building activities on the ground and progressed to the higher ropes course. We loved that there were activities to really include all skill levels. With a team that is spread throughout the country, I really feel like Doug and the team got us to reflect on ways we can work together to facilitate a more collaborative work environment despite the distance. What better way to start of 2012 than to go on an Odyssey? Odyssey, also known as the Team Up! Teambuilding and Ropes Course, is a program at UCI that promotes "team building through different communicating, problem-solving and recreational activities." Instead of battling one-eyed monsters and resisting the charms of fatally attractive Sirens, UCI's Odyssey is a hanging ropes course that tests your ability to work with teammates to move from stage-to-stage using only ropes, harnesses, and your own man-strength while hanging 50-feet above the ground. For my group, the Odyssey was the midpoint of a long bachelor party weekend. Prior to starting the course I had known some of the guys for only a few hours- some of them I'd actually just met! You'd think that traversing a 360-foot long ropes course with no prior ropes experience and people you barely even know would not bode well for the task at hand... Not so when you have an expert guide to lead the way! Before the ropes course portion of the Odyssey, there are ground level team building activities, which I unfortunately missed due to GETTING LOST ON THE UCI CAMPUS. I got to the Odyssey right in time for the ropes course, and imagine my surprise when I discover that our fearless leader is none other than Drew M., a Yelp Elite! I knew immediately that my life was in good hands. True to his Elite status, Drew M. went through all of the safety information with patience, candor, and of course, a lot of humor. Who'd think that doing a body roll would help you recover from hanging in mid-air from your harness? The actual ropes course varied in challenge at different points in the course, but it did convince me of one thing- I need to start doing yoga. Turns out that balance is PRETTY KEY when all you've got to support yourself is the rope, your harness, some wooden platforms from time to time, and the people around you. Suffice to say, you can't do it all by yourself... to complete the Odyssey, you need to TEAM UP! Hardy har har! At the end of the course you get to exit in style by sliding down a 120 foot zip line- a lot of fun, especially when you're trying to do yoga poses on the way down! Afterward, we celebrated our newfound camaraderie and the satisfaction of an Odyssey completed the only way a group of 20-something males on a bachelor party should... A meat bingefest at Cham Sut Gol in Garden Grove! A big thanks goes out to Drew M. and the other Odyssey guide Meg R. You guys rock! read more

This was such a great expereince for my team. My team comprised of about 70% new team members and since we are in sales in different regions, we get to see each other maybe once a month. The ropes course really forces each member of the team to really bond as you rely on each other to make it through what at first seems like an impossible challenge. The instructor (Bill) was very patient and reassuring all while gently nudging us all to push ourselves. After each challenge, we paused to discuss what went well, what we observed and how we can appply these lessons in the future. I highly recommend this team building exercise. read more

While not all of us were sold on testing our bond so far off the groud, the facilitators worked really hard to provide us with the right amount of challenge and support that lead to us to push through and finish. This is SO MUCH fun! We did a team bonding day here with 11 people and it was a blast. The staff gently pushes you to explore how each exercise helps us work together as a team, but they do it without being cheesy. Honestly, most team-bonding programs get cheesy and boring. I took a group of 34 high school juniors to the Team Up! challenge to encourage team building and to help foster a positive environment in our program. The staff easily handled my large group and kept the momentum going all day. The other chaperone and I had the option of participating or sitting back as the Team Up! facilitators took the group through each activity. Besides a couple short snack/water breaks, they kept everyone moving the entire time and my high schoolers raved about the experience. This was my first time but I'm looking forward to making this an annual event with my program juniors. At that age, they had the ability to connect what was happening on the course to what occurs in our classroom and program. It changes how you view others and yourself. I am a skeptical person, so I waited a while to make sure that the review I wrote wasn't influenced by adrenaline or the rush you get from the experience.
