What a fun and therapeutic experience! I love candles and thought it would be fun to create my own custom candles. I loved the experience from beginning to end. You get to start off with choosing your own jar. From there, there's a bunch of scents that you get to pick from to start creating your own custom blend. The recommended is 3-4. The ladies working were so incredibly nice and helpful with giving guidance on which scents they thought would go well together when I couldn't decide. Once you've selected your scents, you get suggested measurements depending on which scents you want to be the top, middle or base note. And then you pour the oil into the wax. After that, I liked that you can choose what color you want the wax to be, and can even add shimmers. Once done, you can either wait 45-50 minutes til they're cooled to pick up or you can come back another day. I loved the way mine looks, and will be coming back for their perfume making class! Update: I lit both of the candles I made. One smelled more like candle wax than the oils I put in.. almost like a scented crayon. The other one smells better but it's very light. I would say both of them don't have a lot of throw. Still a fun experience overall but a bit of a bummer about the end product. read more

We made the reservation earlier in the day and they start right on time. We came in, chose a vessel for our candle (you have options to choose from, I went with a chrome vessel!). We were seated with another group and our instructor was amazing. Once we were sat, we got to choose 4(??) scents that we liked and then she put them altogether and changed the scents as needed for us. Then we chose colors for the candle and if we wanted to add glitter. At the end, we got to choose if we wanted to add any toppings to the candle and we were able to pick up the candles later that day. It was a fun experience, I do wish it was a bit more immersive but overall a great experience that im sure my friends and I will do again. read more

Upon entering this store, you get a whiff of fresh fragrances either floral or fresh and it's hard to pick what you want. I ended up taking their recommendation and picked a light scented fragrance oil to put with my candle. I loved the overall blending process and how my personal scent palette was. Quite interesting!!! I thought I was always choosing floral based but ended up with a citrus base. Loved how they use the same Corning Pyrex beaker and magnetic stirrer that I used in college labs. This was a team building event and there were seven of us in total. You first choose the vessel that you want your candle to be in. Second, sit and smell around 30 scents to narrow down to your favorite four. Third, choose your candle color and toppings. You do have to wait 45 minutes for your candle to dry or you can come back at another time to pick up. Addie was helping our group with the scent ratios and colors. The concept of Thee Candle Lab is both unique and sweet. I booked a workshop for a group of 4 pre-teens for a celebratory birthday activity. The online process to register was easy, and accessible. I was pleasantly surprised at the extensive availability for a Saturday afternoon. On site, the lab had a vast array of product selections for personalized fragrance and candle creations. We opted for the fragrance workshop, which allowed guests to layer two notes atop a base to make for a customized scent to take home. The bottles to select at the beginning of the activity were both visually appealing and fair in size. The experience was immersive and fun. Naming the scent as a final step in the process made for a really nice touch. In my head, I also thought that custom fragrance making would serve as even more memorable for our guests in comparison to other pre-teen birthday activities, which was a plus for me, as the host. Located in the heart of The District in Tustin, there are also several dining and shopping options to keep the party going afterwards. My only complaint is the customer service at this location. My group and I sensed the employee's marked unenthusiasm to assist us. She was very much interested in helping out a high maintenance walk-in guest who had a ton of questions about hosting a birthday party for her small child, which was perplexing to me. It was disappointing that we had pre-paid reservations (which aren't cheap by the way) yet this employee had no desire to acknowledge us when we arrived and was curt and disengaged during our time with her. Getting her attention was also an immense challenge. I guess I didn't fit her profile of a big spender. Her treatment killed the vibe for us. I will have to perhaps wear a Goyard tote next time and see what happens. My group mentioned this employee's behavior as much as their experience at the store so as party host, that made me feel that my money wasn't well spent. Last night I was invited to a private Galantine's event with some vendors in the property management profession to go come here and make our own candles! Not only is this the cutest and most creative idea to host an event, but it ended up being such an awesome experience! The price to make your own candle is $55 (with upgrades depending on the vessel you want to use) and they even offer perfume making for $75! We only did candles last night. This is a family run business that have other locations in Compton and Garden Grove; we went to the location in Tustin the The District. After spending time smelling numerous amounts of lovely (and not so lovely) scents, you get to choose up to 3 scents to add to your candle. The staff was super knowledgeable and experts in guiding which scents go well together and the difference between fruity notes versus earthy, etc. Then once you choose your scents, you go over and they guide you in filling up your own small glass of the highly concentrated fragrances from the beakers and you really do feel like a scientist! I went with Birthday Cake (strong vanilla notes), Palo Santa (woodsy/citrus), and Pear/Pomegranate. HEAR ME OUT, to each their own but I LOVE my scent! After combining all the fragrances and you pour your concoction into the melted wax and watch it mix to combine. After, they add your wick to the bottom of your vessel and then you pour the wax mixture into your jar while straightening our your wick with a popsicle stick. I choose an iridescent vessel and also choose to add iridescent shimmer in my wax (which she said you will only be able to see when the candle is melting!) and topped it off with a few iridescent beads for a little bit of pretty! They take your candle and place it in what looks like a flash freezer to solidify, which took about 20-25 minutes. They also have a service that cost $35 that you can come back with your same vessel and do a refill once your candle has completely finished, which is what me and some of my coworkers plan on doing (even though they only offer that service on Sundays and Wednesdays). Great team bonding activity! My boss scheduled a team bonding event here and it was so much fun! I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was so fun smelling all of the different scents and discovering which ones we liked the most. It was like a personality test. The ladies gave us great recommendations on what scents to mix to get to our preferred scent, and I ended up mixing a lot of my 4 scents to figure out what I liked. The oil scent will smell different from just the wax so be prepared for that. I ideally wanted this pretty light green that I showed a google image of, and they were able to experiment to get the color just right. All of the smells they have are amazing and you truly get to make your own scent based off of your own unique tastes. I did the perfume making class with a friend. I wasn't sure what to expect. I've been wanting to do custom perfume for a while, but it's a service/activity that isn't common. You reserve the class online and you have an hour with a staff member available to help you. You get to pick one base scent and 2 complimentary scent notes. They have the scents labeled in tubes and you dip paper sticks into the scents you like. They provided pens to write the name of the scent on the dip stick. Then you hold the sticks together to preview the scent combinations. Once you decide, the staff member will pour the perfume base into the bottle of your choice. Then you pick the ratio of the 2 complimentary scents and measure them out to add. Your purchase of the class gets bottle that I think is 3 oz. I could be wrong on the size, but it's plenty. They mix everything in the spray bottle. Then you name your perfume and they print a custom label for it. There was group doing this as a bachelorette activity, which I think is a great idea. I wish this had been around when I got married for that. The vibe is super fun and they have some spots for group photos and a digital Photo Booth. I think it was a pretty good value for the cost, especially since it's custom and seems like a true perfume base, not an alcohol based body spray. Visited Thee Candle Lab during the soft opening for a candle workshop with a few friends. The experience was fun, and of course the best part is that you get to take your personalized candle home! Experience: Upon arrival, we picked out our seats at the lab table and then were shown to a selection of vessels. There were lots of choices for vessels, and even more if you wanted to up-charge to a larger vessel or an alcohol bottle. After picking our vessel, we did a lot of sniffing! There were over 30 different scents to smell, including two seasonal scents. There was a sheet to check off each smell and heart the ones you loved. We happened to narrow our selection down to around 6 scents each and then the super knowledgeable teacher/candle guru recommended mixtures. I liked all the citrus scents plus the volcano, so she deliberately mixed four scents together and voila, I had a nice orange citrus fragrance. Next, it was time for mixing! The fragrance and candle color that you choose goes in to the wax, and science happens. After the wax is mixed, you add the wick to the vessel and simply pour the wax in. The last step is to wait, and they recommended around an hour for us. That gave us time to walk around the District's night market and shop. Overall, while some people may think of it as a pricey candle, I think the experience and pride of making your own candle was worth it. I also liked the science lab vibe and different instagram-worthy picture spots around the place. read more

We thought this would be a fun activity to do together, so we booked a 4:30 PM session on a Saturday. We expected a group class but were surprised to find it was just the two of us--not a problem, just unexpected. One employee was wrapping up their shift, and another stepped in to assist us. Overall, the experience was just okay. It seems better suited for parties or kids rather than a standout, immersive activity. The scent selection was fine for a novelty candle but not what you'd expect from a luxury fragrance. Our host was friendly but not particularly enthusiastic. At one point, she seemed more focused on adjusting the music than guiding us through the process, and during the scent selection, she appeared a bit impatient, which took away from the experience. The price was $55 per candle, which felt a little steep considering how quickly the session went. After pouring our candles, we left them to cool and picked them up later. I'm giving mine as a gift--the scent combination I chose was Black Ice (20%), White Tea (15%), and Blood Orange (5%), which turned out pretty good. If I had to do it over, I'd choose BI (30%), WT (8%), and BO (2%). That would've been a slightly more subtle scent, if helpful! :) read more
