I absolutely recommend this place!! My brother and I did the western escape room about two weeks ago (it was our first time ever doing an escape room) and unfortunately we did not escape. The staff was so friendly and extremely helpful with hints which made us come back again and try again at the lost point lodge with our mom. We did it!! It was challenging and very fun!! There was some technical difficulties but they were also solved and we had a smooth experience. Wish we had more time to try the other rooms but was satisfied with the room we did regardless. I had some free time in the OC and perused various activities to fill out one of my days, and found a great deal for this escape room and thought why not? First escape room in SoCal. It's easy to get to and the parking spaces were pretty much empty. The entrance was a little weird since it looks like the backside of some abandoned department store, but it was fine when we made it inside and sat on some comfy chairs while waiting for the game to be ready. Our game master was William, who was super chill and took many great photos at the end (perhaps an aspiring photographer?). Our start time was slightly delayed but as a consolation, we got a little extra time to escape which made our day since we were right there at the end. We did the western themed escape room, which was pleasantly very fun for us, especially after the in-character intro. It was my first time being locked in at the beginning! The theming and props were well thought out and convincing. William was very responsive as we played and needed help, and despite a couple of puzzles being a little mechanically off, we more or less figured our way out. I don't think the puzzles were too hard, and can be solved by any group (though perhaps a little more on the easier side, if I had to pick) - the puzzles mainly involved doing what made sense upon seeing the cues - pretty intuitive. We're very happy with our experience here, especially with William getting us through, and can't wait to explore more of these activities the next time we drive down! read more

Came here for the escape room, and we escaped! The GM was super nice, and since we wanted more of a challenge, she said she'd limit us to three hints. In the end, we only needed one hint and still made it out with some time to spare. It was a great room and very immersive. The puzzles were really well designed. They seemed simple once you realized what you had to do, but they also had a bit of complexity to them while you were still figuring out the bits and pieces. Sometimes, overthinking things definitely doesn't help, since we had a bit of that, but we made it in the end! Overall, it was a really fun experience and a great challenge. read more

recently visited Brainy Actz and it was such a fun, different experience from the usual night out. They have so many options all in one place which makes it perfect for groups with different vibes. From their immersive escape rooms to the rage rooms and their new blackout experience, there's something for every comfort level. We personally did the splatter paint room and it was honestly the highlight. You suit up, grab your paint, and just go for it. It's messy, chaotic, creative, and way more therapeutic than you expect. Running around, throwing paint, and leaving with a canvas you actually made makes it feel like more than just an activity. It feels like a memory you get to take home. The staff was friendly and explained everything clearly before we started. The space felt organized and safe, even with all the chaos going on. I also love that you can easily turn this into a date night, girls night, birthday, or team outing without having to plan multiple stops. I wasn't going to leave a review but they text and email me constantly asking for one. So here goes...... we did the splash paint experience for my family of 4. The easels in our room would not stay standing. They were constantly falling over. We eventually gave up trying to create anything on our canvases and just painted each other and the walls. My kids had a great time but it certainly was not worth the almost $200 that I paid. Also, you put your belongings in a locker and I really wish they had reminded us when we left to get our stuff. I know it's my responsibility to remember my own items, but a reminder would have been so nice and I think should be standard. The worst part was I called to see how late they would be open and they don't have a direct line, just a booking person who was basically like - well they should be there for an hour but couldn't really confirm that or even contact them to tell them I was driving back. This place was 10/10 for me, my best friend, and my family! I booked a paint splatter room but I booked at the Temecula location and got them mixed up somehow. When we got to the Tustin location and realized the mistake, the clerk and the manager were super cool and let us change the location and reserve the room for the same time. Where do I even begin, this place is downright horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE!!! I sure wish I would have seen the reviews before coming. I am usually good about these things but I dropped the ball in not seeing the reviews. I visited with my hubby & a couple of friends after seeing they had a pumpkin rage room. We were all so excited to book this experience to smash some pumpkins. That is the purpose why we booked this to begin with, however on the day of our scheduled appointment we were told they ran out of pumpkins. WTH! We drove out from Whittier for this & to be told they ran out of pumpkins when that is what we paid for is downright upsetting. Nevertheless we decided to move forward & in doing so we realized the protective equipment this place provides fails to protect. Most of the headgear is broken & so the use of both arms is unfeasible since one hand had to be used to keep the headgear in place & the suits almost all had broken zippers therefore shards of glass flying around after being broken posed a risk to all of us since they easy could have gotten on our clothing since the suits provided don't protect anyone due to the zipper not being able to be zipped closed. Also it looked like they do not clean their equipment so upon leaving we felt gross. Also another thing I want to note is that the floor was all wet & no sign was posted anywhere! If any of us were to have fallen that would lead to a lawsuit & with no wet floor sign in site we likely could win. No a/c it seems too & we got uncomfortably hot. How this place is still operating is beyond me. I have requested a refund for this awful experience & I hope I get one. read more

Do not book the game show room!!! I can't speak on the other rooms, but as a whole, the place is super unorganized and the bathrooms were not clean. The staff kept mixing up which groups were doing what. The actual "game show" was just the host projecting a computer desktop on a screen, going to various free trivia and game show websites, and just figuring it out on the spot. There was hardly any prep, no music playing. The host himself kept making it about himself, telling us random uninteresting facts and it just made us uncomfortable. ~ this review is for the rage room only ~ Very disappointing experience. I did an escape room with brainy actz years ago at their old location and had a great time. However, the rage room was an extreme letdown. It's a tiny shed in the back of a warehouse, and we only got 10 Ikea plates to break. That was it. Only 1 of the jumpsuits had a working zipper, which reading from the past reviews has been an issue for at least 7 months and they haven't replaced them. The helmets had hair in them, leading us to believe they don't clean or sanitize the protective gear- eeww. The girl that helped us was great, but that was really the only good part. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE We called about doing the spray paint / graffiti with take home canvas we saw on Groupon. When we called, Josh told us he could honor the Groupon price of $68 for two people. We came in & they only had white paper on the wall not canvases & then we were told that only the top row of the spray paint worked. We must have stood there for 10 mins trying to find the spray cans that actually worked & after that it was about 4-5 colors that worked. We called AnnaBella back to see if she would be able to help us & she wasn't able to fix it either so we requested a refund & the lady over the phone was unhelpful letting us know that they didn't issue refunds & that because we paid for a lesser price then normal we already got a huge discount & could just come back. Furthermore speaking with her & getting nowhere the "phone got disconnected" I'll give you the benefit of the doubt ... then why didn't you call us back after you asked for my phone number to contact me at a later time to see if the manger (who she told us wasn't in til tomorrow) could do anything for us ... I finally had my bf call back at 8:20 & she told us it was an accident & then they could issue us a refund. Definitely not the experience I expected with all these wonderful reviews .... read more

I recently booked a birthday party at Rage Paint Room for our son's 10th birthday. We don't usually go all out for birthdays, so we were truly looking forward to making this one special for him. I want to start by saying the staff members the day of were incredibly helpful and kind. To be honest they were the best part of the entire experience. Unfortunately, everything else was extremely disappointing. We paid extra to upgrade the paint guns, expecting something high quality, but they were very cheap and not at all what we anticipated. On top of that, we ran out of paint within the first 30 minutes, which left the kids with very little to do for the remainder of the party and they did not make it the full hour to paint. For the amount of money we spent, this was incredibly frustrating. When we arrived, it didn't feel like anything was properly prepared or ready for us. We had 10 kids and not enough easels for the to paint on. The party room itself was messy and unclean. There were exposed wires all over, tables were dirty, back section was a storage, not bought paper towels for clear up and Christmas trash left around the space. It did not feel safe or welcoming for a group of children. Who were so bored out of their mind they would rather hang out in the parking lot. We left early and we had no canvas to take home. They were not prepared for us. There was also nothing set up for the kids to do outside of the paint activity, and they couldn't really run around or enjoy themselves in the space. It ended up being more work and stress than fun. We didn't even stay for the full time we paid for because there simply wasn't enough to keep the kids engaged. I also completed the survey afterward, hoping someone would reach out so I wouldn't have to leave a public review. but I have not heard back from anyone. At this point, I am fed up and very upset. The concept is great, and we were genuinely excited about the experience, but the execution was unorganized, poorly prepared, and absolutely not worth the price. We are very disappointed and will not be returning. Given how the party turned out, we believe a refund of at least half of what we paid would be fair. read more

Usually don't like to give these sort of reviews, but I should have followed what others said prior to booking this event. Not cheap by any means at $90 for the splatter painting, but the reviews all said the same thing. Many were disappointed by what was offered once in the paint booth. My girlfriend and son went into the booth and were given an hour to "paint" but I received a text about 20 minutes in saying they were done. The booth was a mess with paint everywhere and there just want much to do once they painted their canvases. I did not get any of the add-ons that were pushed when purchasing this or via text prior to arriving. Would I recommend this? No, not all. We feel it was a waste of $90 and wont come back to do anything with Brainy Actz again. Sorry. read more

From the moment we walked in, her friendly demeanor made us feel excited for our session. This game complex is packed with so many activities. We had an hour of fun splatter painting experience here. All the protective gears are provided and we get each own canvas plus equipments to paint. You can also paint on the wall or on your friends. I'd say the painting room and the rage room are very small and it's too crowded to fit more than 4 people (but you can book more than that). I'd prefer it if the room is larger since it does feel quite crowded in the painting room and it was about $50 per person but we got about 1 square meter per person of space. Although, I'm surprised how effective they make use of the space since the entire block is quite small to fit 2-3 escape rooms and even 3-4 more experiences. They also have a restroom and sink to wash out the paints. The staff was very friendly. There was only one staff when we went but there were around 10+ guests including us at that time. They never warned us they were in the middle of moving, the space was musty and unfinished, and one of the shacks had a broken glass window. Each person got only one pumpkin and one plate to smash for 20 minutes -- for $60 each -- and the protective suits were dirty, ill-fitting, and some had broken zippers, making us look like clowns. You could even still see glass shards from previous events, which didn't feel safe at all. Compared to other rage rooms, this one is extremely limited. Other locations provide boards, printers, computers, and glassware to smash, but here it was just one pumpkin and plate each. The shared space was disorganized -- we got to play our music, but other groups didn't -- and some staff seemed annoyed by our questions. The experience was rushed, overpriced, and poorly run. If you value safety, clear communication, and actual fun, avoid this place until they improve their setup and honesty about what you're really getting. read more

Do NOT recommend whatsoever!!! Please READ THIS before booking here! We went for the paint splatter experience to kick off my birthday week. It is super lame and cost of materials are so cheap you can do it at home or in your local park for a few dollars. Should've read the other reviews as they're 100% accurate about this place. It's in a dingy commercial warehouse type spot, they don't have the air circulating and it was a 90+ degree day, so i legit did not get a paint experience, I got a sauna experience. I'm not kidding when I say I was completely drenched in sweat with sweat stains actually coming through my clothes because they don't have proper air conditioning. The experience itself is in a room with just two canvases and a few paints and paint brushes, legit talking kindergarten status. There was NO MUSIC playing. For a place where you're supposed to be in an environment to have fun, I can't believe they're so inconsiderate about making any sort of experience for you whatsoever. It was deafening silence which made it so awkward and boring. They're too cheap to put a speaker out! I can't believe it. We ended up putting our own music on with our phone inside a plastic cup. We just feel so completely scammed by this place. We tried to give our feedback in a nice way but they had no reply and had nothing to say, no apology whatsoever. If you're not going to do a refund then at least acknowledge your customers and apologize. I think they really don't know how to run a business. I'm writing this so they get the feedback they need and so others are aware. If you're ok with painting in a sauna with no music and basically doing something you can do at home then this is the experience for you. I do see now that there are other reviews saying verbatim what our experience was and that was over a year ago to which a customer service rep replied to those people that they'd fix these issues. No wonder this spot is empty on a Friday night. Bought the base package and they only gave me 4 plates which are destroyed in 2 seconds, and the room itself is small and has large pieces of metal/plastic that kind of look like recycled car parts that are difficult to hit and don't break. The weapons are quite heavy albeit there are multiple options. My biggest gripe is that both rage rooms Bluetooth system have the same name, which means it took me about 10 minutes to set up my music in the right room as I try to figure out which of the identical networks is the room I'm in, disconnecting and connecting multiple times, with no assistance whatsoever from the sullen attendants who saw me struggling and also annoying the other paying patron with my music accidentally playing in their room. Not much to destroy for the base package. Even though I had wasted so much time in the beginning connecting to the music, it still felt like there wasn't enough to do like in the other rage rooms in LA that have base options with more things in the room to destroy like chairs and tables. I do not like to leave any negative reviews on a business. Some people may enjoy rooms much more than others. We had just done a room at another place in Irvine and decided to book another and your place came up. The two rooms you had just were not our cup of tea. But we saw blackout listed and it sounded more down our alley. We waited around a little over an hour since the room booking wasn't until around 8. Once it was time we went inside to find out that blackout wasn't even an open room at that facility yet and they had no idea why it was posted on the website to be able to book. So that was very disappointing since we did wait around for this room specific. And find out it isn't even ready to open yet. At this point we have already waited around for an hour. So the guy at the desk said we can just do one of the other rooms you guys have since it's the same price. Obviously we aren't going to leave since we had already waited. And like i said. Don't get me wrong. Not everyone has the same likes and dislikes. But the cabin room. Doesn't even give you any idea on where to start. We literally wasted ten minutes just looking at what we had found trying to see where to start. We have done over 80 rooms. So we have our likes and dislikes for sure. Once we were told where we were suppose to start. We were able to get everything else done and out. I just think the whole coming for blackout specifically and having the guy confused at the fact it's not even finished. Bummed us out. Now onto after the fact. I saw i was not the only one that received not one. Not two. But well over 4 texts and emails begging for a review and once you click less then 5 stars. It won't let you leave a google review. We've done dozens of escape rooms and this was easily in the bottom few experiences. We weren't expecting that because it's was rated pretty highly... turns out there is a reason!!! To start, we didn't book an escape room but paid $100 to do "archery football bowling" which is advertised on their website. We were looking to do something out of the ordinary and thought it could be fun. When we arrived there were signs of a bad experience: the attendant was clearly high and the couch they give you to wait on was broken. When we were walked back to go bowling the attendant walked us into a dirty cluttered warehouse garage behind the escape rooms. She pulled bows and arrows off the wall and walked over to physically set up dirty bowling pins on the ground in this garage. It felt like we were going to be murdered. We instantly told her we didn't want to play and wanted a refund. It was wild they considered this worth $100. The attendant said she totally understood and offered we do an escape room instead of a refund. We laughed told her it wasn't her fault and took her up on it. She walked away for a few minutes, came back and locked us into the escape room. The clues were pretty basic, low tech but we had fun. About ten minutes into the experience a door is unlocked and we entered a second room. At that point the whole experience feel apart. None of the clues were working correctly and the attendant had to enter the room to reset each clue one by one. Turns out she had gone to reset the room and forgot to do the second room entirely -- so we walked in and all clues were already solved. She left us alone to solve the final two clues and we finished. Usually at this point in the game the attendant would come in and congratulate us -- but she had disappeared. We opened the door and left after 5 min of no one coming, returned to the lobby and left. We joked about what a crazy experience that was -- between them charging so much for the gross bowling activity to us probably setting a new record since half of the clues were already solved... THEN came the texts. We received at least 4 texts that prompted us to leave a review. If you click the link it sends you to a rating page on their website where you click 1-5 stars. If you click 5 stars the form sends you straight to Google to leave a review. IF YOU CLICK 1 STAR IT SENDS YOU TO AN INTERNAL FORM telling you not to leave a review on Google and to instead leave your review internally. I don't know why this pissed me off so much but it's straight review fraud. Clearly there are dozens of 1 star reviews that were never posted online. Just statistically this place does not deserve the 4.3 stars that convinced us in the first place. The experience was so terrible it was funny. But if you aren't looking for the worst escape room in OC this place probably isn't for you. read more

This review is *solely* based on my experience at the "Rise of Excalibur" and not a reflection of the customer service. The cost of this escape room was extremely affordable thanks to GroupOn so that was a plus, but the cheap price was not worth the headache I got post-escape room and for the lack of puzzle quality/complexity. The customer service was great and the male employee at the front was kind, accommodating, and attentive. So I've been to plenty of escape rooms and I have to say, "the Rise of Excalibur" is one of the worst escape rooms I've ever experienced. But this is coming from an escape room enthusiast who has went to 30 rooms - if you LOVE escape rooms and play them often, I highly recommend skipping "Rise of Excalibur". If you are new to escape rooms or this would be your first escape room, then this one might be passable - especially for the good price. I understand that most escape rooms are dim lit, but this room was SO hard to see everything that we constantly had our phone flashlights out for the entire session - and I've never had to do this at any other location before. Some places even offer their own flashlights, but this one didn't and we also had a whiteboard that I had to erase with my own arm. It would have been nice if they included a whiteboard eraser as well. Additionally, the puzzles just seemed lackluster - they weren't very out-of-the-box, creative, or fun. Lastly, I have to say that ONE of the puzzles is extremely annoying and not specific to the point where I got a bad headache post-escape room and had to CANCEL my evening plans because the headache was so bad. If you look on Morty, you can see other reviewers sharing the same complaint on this same puzzle. I personally think this puzzle needs to be reviewed/changed so that people can have a better experience. If you look at Morty, you'll also notice that most of the escape rooms here range from "mainly negative" to "overwhelmingly negative" - which is not a good sign. I do not think I would come back, but my friend who went here for her first escape room had a great time so I think it's a decent option for those starting off with escape rooms. read more

Awful. Not as advertised, incredibly over priced for and dirty 8ft x 6ft "back" room that was nothing more than a corner of a dirty warehouse with some dirty wet tarp. We paid $160+ dollars for two adults and one kid. It was hot, they didn't provide us with the paint balloons and instead gave us cheap dollar store water guns with 3 small containers of poorly watered down, unmixed, cheap paint, 5 solo cups of the same cheap paint, and 3 small cheap canvases. Must've been under $10 of supplies. We left after 15 mins. Avoid this place at all costs. Total scam. read more

I'm gonna start by saying that the girl at the front counter was fantastic. She was very inviting nice did everything that she could for us. Now, as far as the rage room goes, we walked in the room and there were four plates for us to break and we had two sessions of 20 minutes each. She said that they lost their supplier. She said we could've brought stuff from home to smash, but nobody called and told us and it was just really a terrible experience to expect someone to break four plates in 40 minutes. She gave us additional plates so we had like eight plates and two statues like 4 inch statues to break in 40 minutes so we left after about a half an hour and it was disappointing. First let me say the girl that was working there was amazing! BUT I bought tickets to their rage room and there was nothing to break! She told us we could go to go to Dollar Tree and buy stuff to break which totally eliminated any savings from buying the Groupon. The website is not clear about the rules for the rage room. You can bring your own things to break. They did provide some plates to break but that was all. Honestly, we should have not been able to reserve a room without anything to break. I'm giving some stars because in spite of this my daughter did manage to have a good time. read more

extremely disappointed. Will not be back. We booked four for basic splatter paint experience for $45 each. we also booked for electric paint guns for $25 each and we booked for the balloons with paint another $25 each for a total of $360. The picture of the canvas online for the splatter paint looks way bigger than what we got. The canvas was tiny. No way we could've painted our name graffiti style like in your picture. We did not get three cans of paint each we got four colors total of paint for four people that would be one color each. The guns were not electric guns and the guns were filled with water so when you sprayed them, it watered down our art. The paint filled balloons we received were left on the floor and there were only 15 balloons for four people. We paid $100 for the balloons?? It also states the balloons would be hung up on whiteboard or paper to create art. Balloons were on the floor under the paint table. Also only two darts given for four people. this is totally not worth $360. We were there for 30 minutes. So disappointing and on Mother's Day. Also Brainy Actz has been advertising the game show experience on their site since November. I tried to book in December and was being told "a few more days until it's available".It's May and it's still not available but oddly enough the website let you book it. I feel bad for the people who booked the game show experience for Mother's Day when they arrived we were told it was not available. Take it off your website as an option! Brainy Actz asked me for a review when I followed the link it asked for initial feedback and if it's negative, they asked me to hold off on a negative review until they can contact me. Well, I held off and no one contacted me. I will say the actual employees on site are great. Very friendly. Just need help from the owner's/manager to provide what is actually described. Not the experience we booked -- or hoped for. My husband and I love puzzles and often schedule day dates while our twins are at school, so we thought a Western-themed escape room at Brainy Actz Irvine would be a fun change of pace. I booked through Groupon and chose this location because it was close enough to work with our drop-off and work schedules. Unfortunately, the experience unraveled before we even arrived. After booking, I received a confirmation -- followed by a confusing email thanking me for booking in Bakersfield and offering a same-day add-on. I didn't take the offer, but it made me nervous that our reservation might be misrouted. Still, I stayed cautiously optimistic and followed the Irvine directions listed on their website. The email instructed us to arrive at least 10 minutes early, so we planned to be there at least 20 minutes ahead of time. But after circling the parking lot several times and failing to find the building, we parked to double-check the directions. Only then -- 19 minutes before our scheduled time -- did I receive a text saying they'd moved to Tustin, nearly 5 miles away and much further from our kids' school. We rushed over and arrived just on time, no longer early. I explained the situation to the host, who told me it was hard to keep up with texting everyone. Not exactly reassuring. Then came the next surprise: the Western-themed room we booked wasn't available. The new location only had one escape room set up, and it wasn't the one we chose. Instead, we were placed in a different room, which the host described as "easier." No explanation, no apology -- just a swap. There was no secure storage, just lockers without locks. We were told it was fine because the host would be up front the whole time. Yet when we finished, the host was gone, helping another customer, and the front door was wide open. Thankfully my purse was untouched, but it didn't feel secure. As for the room itself -- the puzzles lacked logic and cohesion. We love solving challenges together, but this felt thrown together, with no clear flow or reasoning behind the clues. We really wanted to enjoy this experience, but between the last-minute location change, the room swap, the lack of security, and the confusing puzzle design, it missed the mark. I doubt we'll return. I'm giving three stars because we did get to do a room, and the staff wasn't rude -- but the experience didn't match what we booked, and the execution felt sloppy. read more
