This place is truly the best! I've come in for both big and small issues, and every time I get excellent service at a fair price. Just today, I pulled in at the right time and three guys jumped right in: one was checking out a side mirror motor that died, another was fixing a leak in my tire (giant nail), and a third was even helping me super glue a 3-D printed latch I ordered to keep my sunglasses holder closed after the original part broke. These past few months, they've also helped me with check engine lights, oil changes, and more--and every time it's fast, friendly, and reliable. I used to go to my Subaru dealer for my 2021 Subaru, but these guys are so close and it's so easy to pop in and get answers to the questions that pop up. I don't generally like to submit wholly negative reviews but this place really deserves this rating. Took my truck in for a few problems including sagging suspension, electrical draw, and noise from the brakes. They had availability the day after I called (bad sign) and got back to me with diagnosis the day I brought the car in. The truck has air suspension which is relatively simple to repair on GM trucks compared to other systems, they said it wasn't working and the solution was to convert to conventional springs at a cost of $3500 for the conversion kit and install. As to the electrical draw they said it had an aftermarket alarm system that had to be removed (which I was aware of) at a cost of $150 for labor, reasonable. For the brakes they said the truck needed pads and rotors on all 4 corners at a cost of $500 per corner, $2000 total. I declined everything except the removal of the alarm system. They charged me $450 for that which included the diagnosis time for other services, fair since they took the time to diagnose and I didn't opt for the repairs. On the suspension, I asked why not just replace the air shocks, as they told me the air compressor was fine, just the shocks blown. They said we could do that, and that it would cost approximately $1000. I asked why they would recommend the conversion kit at such a large cost when simply replacing the air shocks would solve the problem and they said they recommend converting air suspension on older cars by default, as it is "usually" more cost effective. Pretty BS excuse, never mind the fact that their quote for either option was astronomically over market. I took the truck to a different shop and got some entirely different information. Turns out the noise from the brakes was due to a seized caliper in the rear, which I verified. This shop recommended replacing rear rotors and pads and the one seized caliper, the pads and rotors quoted at 120 per side, a quarter of the price Tech Auto quoted me, and that the front brakes were fine and didn't need replaced. Also given the presence of the stuck caliper (which I verified), it is obvious that Tech Auto did not even look at my brakes to diagnose the noise, otherwise they would have noticed this. The other shop quoted me $150 to replace the shocks, the parts costing $180. Tech Auto wanted 3 times that amount and only after I suggested it as an option rather than converting them. Additionally the second shop pointed out that my rear coil springs were overly compressed and should be replaced. Tech Auto would have noticed this if they had bothered to look under the car, I wonder if they even put it on the lift! As for the air suspension compressor, Tech Auto said that it was fully functional, it is not. As for the removal of the alarm system, this did not solve the battery drain. The battery died completely sometime later. I bought a new battery and upon removing the old one, a wire came off the post that had been feeding into the now removed aftermarket alarm, this was causing the draw. Checking the posts to see if there were any miscellaneous wires drawing power should have been part of the basic search for the draw, again Tech Auto failed to notice this, which makes me doubt whether they even conducted the diagnosis. As I said before, I thought it was fair to pay for the diagnosis as I had declined many of the recommended services. However, when much of the diagnosis was flat out wrong, or missed key information that was plain as day upon any inspection, I am led to believe that the diagnosis was not performed at all. Tech Auto didn't look at my vehicle, recommended a bevy of services that it didn't need, missing the services it did need, and tried to charge me exorbitant prices for the unnecessary services. They hit pretty much every single slimy mechanic stereotype. Stay away from this place, I can't speak for other mechanics in the area but perhaps it would be better to wait for an appointment somewhere else. read more

First and foremost, Tech Auto did a great job addressing the issues I was having with my 67 Bronco. I purchased my Bronco @ 6 months ago and needed a local shop to fix a few issues I was having. Tech Auto had at least 5 early Broncos in their lot, so I felt comfortable bringing mine there. Bobby is VERY knowledgeable with early Broncos. He is very hands on with pointing stuff out and explaining everything. I think they had my bronco for about three weeks. I wish I would've gotten it back sooner, however I know he's having issues getting parts with Covid, which is beyond anyones control. My Bronco is a black roadster and only has a bikini top. I had asked them to keep my cover on it when It was not inside the shop. I live a few blocks away and every time I drove by, they had it covered, which was very appreciated. The one thing I need to mention is his location. His facility is a couple of blocks south of Washington in the Rice Military area. Real estate prices are stupid in that area. Bobby has been in that location for 20+ years now, which explains why there is a auto mechanic shop in such high demand area. I understand that you need to store cars on your property while waiting on parts or what not, so they do have cars everywhere including the street in front of their shop. However, they all get pulled in at night. When all was said and done, I feel Bobby was very reasonable on what he charged for all the work that he did on my bronco. I few years ago I fixed my AC at this location and stops cooling and every time I come here all they just filled it with the cooling product but my car isn't cooling enough and they said that it's bc it's an old 2013 Nissan Altima. If I knew the ac wasn't going to work I never put that much money into the car. I give one star because they won't fix it just put more of that cooling supplies. Worst customer service I have ever got in my life!! I stopped by a day before to confirmed if they can do a oil service on my car and to make sure they have everything they may need. I even ask if I should do an appointment. They said yes, drop your car at 8:00 am and will be ready by 10:30 am Today I drop of my car at 8:00 am, come back around 11:00 am thinking it will be ready since nobody from the shop has called me and I came to find out that my car it's next on line and it will take another hour or so... and it's not ready....!!! I was like you guys are joking... what was the point of me stopping by the day before and confirm. I just waste 3 hours of my day, I was late for work and spend $35 dls on Uber to get back home and come back to pick my car. What a waste of my time and money for real. And here I am trying to support local business when they don't have their act together... totally unacceptable and seriously wrong. You don't waste with peoples time. So unprofessional!! read more

Tech Auto was great. Came in with a check engine light that indicated an 02 sensor was broken. They quickly took my information and got my car in for diagnostics right away. The diagnostics cost $135 which isn't unusual but other shops offer this for free and I had already identified the general issue. The cost for the labor and parts was very affordable and the car was ready later that evening of the same day I brought it in. They explained the issue and were very friendly and patient with me. Definitely recommend this place but if you feel you're more certain of the issue maybe a find place with free initial diagnostics read more

First time taking the daily driver (MINI) for service. My regular mechanic referred me to Tech Auto since they only work on BMW, so I figured I would give them a try. Needed a scheduled oil change, and was able to drop by with no appointment. They have a small waiting area with bench seats. The service rep explained that for all services they perform, they use BG additives. He went on to explain and show a marketing brochure full of 'with and without' additive pictures, further pushing the product. I stated several times I do not want any type of additives with my oil change, and that full synthetic is all I want. While there are situations where additives can help, I don't want to be pressured/sold something that I have not asked for. And especially, the implication that the additive is required and is already "included in the price." Oil change took about an hour and the total came out to $100, which is about as expected. However, if I didn't decline the BG motor oil additive, it would have been around $120. I'll give Tech Auto one more chance because they were recommended by my regular mechanic who I trust, and it seems the shop does decent work, but if I'm pressured again to use an additive I didn't ask for, it will be the last time I go there. read more

These guys are fantastic. I've been twice because my car was stalling out. The first time I had my car in, it had died and I had it towed to Tech Auto. I had taken it to another mechanic shop in town who could not diagnose it. Tech Auto had my car done fast and replaced my fuel pump. The second time I took my car in, I arrived at 5:30am and was waiting in the dark, cold for the shop to open at 7:00. But before 6, Michael got to work and saw my car sitting at the curb, came over to see if someone was inside, then let me sit in the shop waiting area even though it was super early and they weren't technically open yet. To my surprise, they looked into my car issue and had it repaired before 7am--when the shop officially opens. That's amazing. Super friendly, down-to-earth, know their stuff, won't upsell you just to get your money, fast. Why didn't I hear about them my first 5 years in Houston?! read more

They have a recurring break-in problem they don't want anyone to know about. It is so bad that they leave all of the cars in the lot overnight, with a 5 foot fence to "protect" ,and leave the doors unlocked so the windows don't keep getting broken. When your car is victimized, they take the approach of " Blank You", it is not our problem. Owner actually said that to me. Said there is no way to prevent it. I'd go elsewhere where the busines actually may appreciate having paying customers, and empathy for unfortunate negligence. read more

This guy Bobby is incompetent. Or criminal. If this place provided qualified service at one point in the past, those days are gone. In the past year he has completely screwed up our '76 Bronco. I will never, ever, go back and you should not either. A year ago, someone recommended this place. I subsequently paid for Bobby to "overhaul" the Bronco and make it safe for my son to take to college. Several thousand dollars was spent. When we picked it up, the steering was so loose it was too dangerous to drive. Took it back immediately and waited a week for him to place "stabilizer bars". My son took it to college and, in three days, the new radiator hose from Bobby failed due to poor installation. It was literally sitting on top of one of the fan belt pulley's so that it cut through the hose. I fixed that myself. Then a few weeks later the carburetor failed. A local mechanic had to rebuild it. Then the battery, alternator and battery wiring supposedly had to be replaced. The car was in Houston and we foolishly took it back to Bobby. $900. A day after picking it up the car stranded my son on the highway. He called Bobby who had it towed back to Tech Auto. We only went back because we assumed he would cover his work. Bobby replaced the fuel pump and charged us for the tow! My son got it to Austin and the oil pan started profusely leaking oil and it would not start. Local mechanic fixed the oil pan and says the fuel pump is bad. Say what? He explained the internal arm and cam (?) were completely disconnected and "spinning freely" in the fuel pump. This was supposedly replaced by Bobby a week earlier. In summary, we had this vehicle for years before Bobby supposedly surveyed it and replaced what was, in his estimation, about to go bad. It has been a disaster. What may have once been a decent place is total crap now. Save yourself the frustration and stay away from this place. read more

Called ahead and they said if I took my car in first thing in the morning depending on the circumstance they could have it ready before the end of the day. *Cue the eye roll* But I took it anyway and they actually did have a diagnostic ready in no time and I got my car back by the end of the day. Mind you nothing major was wrong with it but still. I appreciated the honesty from Bobby who broke everything down in a way I could understand and didn't try to upsell any unnecessary parts and mechanic work. Overall these guys were AMAZING! Beware of this place, especially if you look like someone that has no idea about cars. They will try to take advantage of you. Last week my gf brought her 2006 VW Passat. She poured way too much oil and the cylinders were not working properly. She was quoted $990 to "flush the cylinders, vaults, etc." They also told her that they have to charge her $125 for "diagnostics" they ran on her car. Well, their "diagnostics" amounted to reading the check engine code with a scanner and checking the oil level. Mind you that you can purchase such scanner for $19.99 and the whole operation takes less than 5 minutes. First off all, I never saw anyone charging for scanning the check engine codes; this is usually a courtesy. When inquired about the cost of this service the owners son Bobby gave me some attitude and some BS about their "$10k equipment". We never reeived any diagnostic report other than a list if three check engine codes that, as we learned later, were bogus. We asked to change the oil and we took the car away and took it to a legitimate mechanic. And guess what- all that was needed was cleaning the throttle plates and replacing the spark plugs for a total of $350! If you ever heard those nightmare stories abour mechanics ripping people off- well, you know what I mean. Save yourself a lot of money and go to a legit place that will take care of your car and you. read more

A friend recommended Tech Auto to me. I took my car to them about 3 months ago to have the brakes done and to have a failing gearshift lever fixed. I also had them do an oil change/filter while the car was there. Bobby did an excellent job on everything, and he even replaced a bad taillight bulb he noticed was burned out. The bill was very reasonable, so I could not have been happier about my first experience with them. About 2 weeks ago, on the strength of my initial experience, I recommended Tech Auto to my boss whose car needed new brakes. She was equally pleased with their work and their prices. About a week ago, my car (the one they fixed 3 months ago) was damaged in a hit and run accident. Fortunately it was parked at the time. While the car was severely damaged, I was able to drive it to Tech Auto where they evaluated it for me. They gave me an estimate of what it would cost to make it safe to drive (separate from what it would cost to fix the bodywork). Given the age of the car and the prospect of driving a car that was functional but with terribly damaged bodywork, I decided to sell it for scrap instead. When I asked Pebbles at Tech how much I owed them for going over the car, she said, "nothing." I was astounded and (obviously) quite pleased. These are good people. Murphy's Law that within days of paying my car off it starts to smell like antifreeze. I rolled up with a horrible smell of antifreeze blowing in through my A/C but no idea of the cause. Within 10 minutes Bobby had filled up my coolant tank with water and pumped it through my system to figure out where the leak was. Before my own eyes I saw the leak, cracked radiator, had to be replaced. Within another 10 minutes he had parts and labor costs, was driving me home while they fixed my car. Did I mention that was at 2 p.m.? By 6 p.m. he called and said the car was ready. Whoa! When I arrived to pay it was $75 less than what he quoted me. Whoa! Whoa! He test drove my car too, which tells me he's got integrity, isn't going to let me drive off with anything half baked. Bobby is really down to earth and shoots you straight. Tech Auto has been our mechanic for over a decade. They've worked on many different cars over the years. Bobby is a great guy and is extremely knowledgeable and well-connected. We've taken German cars to him, domestic cars to him. He always gets them fixed. And if something goes wrong with something he's already worked on, he gets it taken care of at no additional cost. One example, we have a 30 year old VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper Van. It has a mid 1990s Jetta engine conversion. We needed some new coolant hoses. They are famously NLA (no longer available) from dealers, but he found a guy in Wisconsin who makes them by hand. Done, fixed, when others are still struggling to find parts. He did the same thing when we needed a new fuel rail. Some sort of California Jetta Racing League had a metal one to replace the leaking plastic one. Others have mentioned how quick his turn around times are. We've found this to be true as well. Can't say enough good things about Tech Auto. read more

I took my 73 Bronco in to have the C-4 automatic transmission rebuilt and my transfer case checked and resealed. My transmission had some serious/rare issues that took a while to diagnose. They got it fixed and fixed right. It was the one bad apple in probably 100,000 transmissions. But they stuck to thier word, stuck to the agreed estimate, and got it done. Any problems I can't solve by myself on the Bronco, I know where I will take it. read more
