This was, without question, one of the most unprofessional and disappointing experiences we have ever had with a youth program. The young girl running the program appeared to have little to no coaching experience. She raised her voice at the girls on the first day, made them feel uncomfortable, and even left the session unsupervised to get fast food. It was clear she was overwhelmed and unprepared to manage the group safely or effectively. Even more troubling, when I brought my concerns directly to the founder and owner of Beach Elite, I was met with complete disrespect. There was no willingness to listen, no professionalism, and certainly no accountability. This was a terrible experience for my daughter and for me as a parent. I immediately withdrew her from the program because I did not feel it was a safe or supportive environment. Parents deserve to know exactly who is running these programs and what kind of oversight (or lack thereof) exists. I would strongly caution anyone considering Beach Elite Volleyball to look elsewhere for a program that truly values athlete safety, skill development, and respectful communication.

Professional, experienced and great with both of my kids. One is 6-years-old and the other 13 and they both learned a ton. On the final day (Friday), my daughter played in the Aloha tournament where some of the same instructors were overseeing the games and it really helped her confidence for her first ever beach tournament. Will certainly be back in Fall!

Encountered sexism and derogatory speech towards women- league did nothing…read more Unfortunately this will be my first and last season playing coed flag football with BCS. I had such a negative experience during one of my games that left a major distaste for this league. What happened: during a game an opponent began hurling insults at my team. Whatever, i've been an athlete my whole life I get that sports get heated. However, he started aiming his attacks at the women on the team including myself. He would mock my girl teammates in whatever we did, called us "p****", said us "what are you my mommy?" when we asked him to stop. He also got up in my male teammates faces cursing them out "f*** you p****". I can ignore one sad loser, but I brought this up to the ref, who witnessed the entire thing, and he just shrugged. No apology, did not ask the opposing player to stop, so the player just kept going with the derogatory remarks and blatant sexism. So, the next day I email the league making them aware of what happened and how the ref did absolutely nothing to control the opposing player. It's been over a week, no response. I'm disgusted that a league who prides themselves on being open for all allows for such sexism and speech directed to women, and players in general. As a female athlete and a coach to girls, I find un sportsmanship intolerable. According to the leagues website: Excessive aggressiveness, unsportsmanlike conduct towards the referee(s) or members of the opposing team, and other conduct detrimental to the League, will result in ejection of the game, suspension from the league or a lifetime ban. I guess that's just for show because no one has said anything about the excessive unsportsmanlike conduct and sexism that was aimed at my team, especially my fellow girls.

I spoke with Brooke prior to signing up and she helped reassure me that she would try and match me up with a team fitting my experience. I ended up on an AWESOME team! Did we win every game? No, but we had fun and learned new things every game. Did we compete? Every game was pretty close, usually a touchdown difference. Was it fun? Absolutely! Everyone was awesome and encouraging. There was healthy banter back and forth. It was competitive! They have bar sponsors down on Main St that allows for a fun environment to meet new people and socialize a bit. As someone who is super shy it was nice to be surrounded by people I play with and played against, so you don't feel alone. Check which division you are signing up for and make sure it matches your style. Give your team time to get to know each other and play styles, chemistry doesn't just happen overnight. Can't wait to sign up for another league!

We decided to try out NJB (Huntington Beach chapter) based on some recommendations from friends…read more Note: most of them tried it summer/winter season when I guess there's more participants and more volunteer help. However, the spring season for the Rookie division (K-1, 5-7 year olds) was super disorganized from the start and it hasn't gotten better after numerous parents bringing up concerns throughout the season with Coach Dennis who happens to be the founder of NJB too. This has been the worst sports league we have ever joined! 1) They shouldn't have 5-7 year olds play together and if they do, they should divide the teams equally by skill level but that wasn't the case. One team had much taller, more experienced players that would often dominate during scrimmages. Some of the younger ones would get upset, feeling discouraged which isn't a good start when introducing a sport. 2) The league should provide more coaching for basics and fundamentals as it was the first time for some of the kids playing. That being said, all practices are run by parents who volunteer to coach including some who reluctantly did so. Sadly, they are not given any instruction on drills so it's up to them how they want to structure practices. This happened the first time where the paid coaches just watched the volunteer coaches figure out how to coach the kids without giving them any guidance. After complaints, Dennis told us from week 2 week, we would have someone professionally give our kids instruction the first 30 minutes, then scrimmage the last 30 minutes but sadly that only seemed to happen 3x. The paid referees were supposed to come for all the scrimmages/games, but didn't. We had parent volunteers step in with some of the weekend scrimmages/games and referee too when no professional from the league showed up. This was so unprofessional. 3) Game times were sometimes changed 1-3 days prior to the actual game or from a Sunday to Saturday. One weekend we weren't suppose to have a game, then we were emailed that same week that we would have one. 4) Not all updated games have been emailed out. So some parents downloaded the NJB app (which only some knew about) and said that was more updated on there, but that still didnt show all the upcoming games. 5) Rookie division plays with 8 feet (vs 10 feet hoop). We found out in order to have practice with 8 feet hoops, we have to pay additional rental fees to practice at local schools that have them. When asked if we get a partial/refund, Dennis flat out said "no" because everything was done as promised, which wasn't. I'll be sharing my experience with other families and mom groups that I'm a part of.
