Can't really comment on the quality of work. I tried calling to set an appointment and waited for their automated phone system for 3 minutes, then I was put on hold for another 8+minutes. Total wait time for a phone call was over 11 minutes until I just hung up. How can you not have someone not answering your phones?? I dont have time for you to figure it out. read more

I was not pleased with this place. i received a gift certificate for my birthday and was really excited. I would never splurge on nails at a place like this. From the second i walked in the staff was exceptionally rude. When I asked a question it was very much like i was bothering them. I used the waxing services first and thought they did a great job, until i looked at myself after the redness subsided and the woman actually didn't do anything. The hair was all still there. This was not my first wax, I know very well that wax does actually work, so i am not sure what she was doing when she was hovering over my face. After the wax i decided to get a manicure. I definitely enjoyed talking to the manicurist, but she did such a poor job and no hand massage! The had massage is the reason for the manicure in my books. By the time i got home my nail polish had chipped. I do not think i will be returning there. I am very happy with cheap ten dollar manicures and equally inexpensive waxes. read more

I'm about to reveal a secret... one that I've been keeping to myself for the past 5 years. And after reading the other reviews for Teddie's I think all the women of the northshore have been keeping this secret as well! The go to lady for eyebrow waxings in the northshore is Marie at Teddie Kossof's. I was first introduced to her by my friend, and initially didn't want to go because as someone who grew up in Glenview, Teddie's always seemed like the place where all the oldder women go. But I'm glad I went and met Marie (I've never had any other services done there- so this review is strictly for eyebrow waxings & Marie). Marie is very warm and amazing at what she does. Detail oriented and quite the perfectionist when it comes to shaping brows. My appointments usually last about 20 min, she waxes and then tweezes to perfection any hairs that didn't come off w/ the wax. I've never once had a bad experience w/ her and always feel confident that my brows will come out perfect. My brows are thick and dark and it's no fun when someone does something crazy like boxing them out.. but w/ Marie I never have to worry about anything like that... She's quite popular in the northshore, so I recommend making an appointment a few days early, she fills up quickly! She's located on the lower level of Teddie's and charges $15 for brows. It may sound pricey to some, but for the amount of time she spends I think it's worth it! read more

My husband bought me a gift certificate for a massage and manicure here (without checking the Yelp reviews). The building looks like a B-class office site, and the interior decor is a hodgepodge of 80s glam (mirrored walls) and construction. The place is like a maze, with stairs and turns everywhere for different rooms. For the massage, there was no changing room or lockers-- just get undressed right in the massage room. There was nowhere to shower afterward to wash off the massage oil. Then, the manicurist disapproved of and critiqued everything I did, from my choice of round v. square, the polish color I picked, why I wasn't "doing anything special" that night, and even disapproved of my occupation (I'm a mom and work from home). I almost walked out. The front desk was extremely busy and there were guys hanging out in the parking lot that, as another reviewer described them, really did look like "sleazy gigolos." The whole experience made me uncomfortable, and I will not be back. read more

I've been to Teddie's a few times and each time was a disaster. 10 years ago, thinking Teddies looked like a quality salon, I booked an appt. for a light ash blonde color. The colorist completely screwed up my hair color - gave me red when I specifically told them NO RED! I went back to have it fixed and if that wasn't bad enough, the colorist was too busy with other customers and was going to have the shampoo girl (a high school student without credentials!) apply the color to my hear. I walked out. Like a fool I returned 10 years later willing to give them another shot since I live nearby. Their "master colorist" completely ruined my hair. He not only screwed up the color (again RED when I said I want a soft neutral blonde - I even brought in a swatch!!) but my hair is so fried from the damage he had done, my mother in law thought I had gotten a bad perm! Now I am going to have to get it cut very short and redyed somewhere else. Not to mention that he had a very snotty attitude and actually took a personal call while he was in the middle of putting highlights in my hair. The result was fried, blotchy hair where the ends were darker, alot of dark red streaks, the blonde streaks were brassy and stripey. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! This guy did not even LISTEN to what I wanted, he just did what HE wanted to my hair. I felt I had been punked that's how bad it turned out. Like it was a malicious prank. Then my mother in law said that she knew how awful Teddies was and would have warned me not to go if I had asked her beforehand. First and last time here! just amazed at how much experience or should I say years employed there...means nothing I had the worst gel nails ever I was nice, but could not wait to get out. The product used (after 3-4 times rummaging in boxes to find looked like several years old and believe me it to 3 times longer to complete. ( which they were uneven like blobs of gels) there ladies should should really go to IL NAILS and have a no chip done and see their compitition at a 1/3 of the cost and state of the art services. There No Chip is the same as the gel service and looks and last longer. Sorry ladies stick to your over priced manicures and don't offer what you are bad at. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I was given a massage here from my husband for Mother's Day. I book online, full out the form and the massage therapist says "No I cannot help you. You are pregnant." And just stares at me. Hmm okay. I walk upstairs and ask to speak to a manager who could only send me back to the woman downstairs who was as useful as the massage therapist. Apparently the policy is that if you are pregnant, you need a doctors note because you are "delicate" according to the manager. Well, you think you may want to notify your clients of this in advance?? Would you like to find me another time and babysitter so I can do this all over again with my doctors note?? What's the point of signing a liability waiver I ask? Her response: the massage therapist needs to protect herself? Okay.. Nevermind. read more

I was given an "complimentary" consultation with Teddie. What a joke. I told him my stylist (I moved recently) told me that I have a Vidal Sassoon precision cut. Teddie told me he knew VS and was better at styling hair. HA! He brought up a "master stylist" that he gave some instruction. I now have a super short, choppy, uneven pixi cut that requires goobs of product to hold in place. (I told the master stylist I only use a little hair spray to hold the bangs.) I went home and cried. Everyone I see asks, "why did you cut your hair so short is was so cute/pretty." I am sick. To add insult to injury I was charged $70 for this mess. I did ask for the new client discount but still paid $55. DO NOT go to this salon it is a JOKE! I was given a refund for the hair cut. However I went to another stylist to get the layers evened and she told me it would probably take a year to grow my hair out to the style I had previously. read more

Well, Make It Better magazine recommended them. I don't. An older stylist, Peter, talked non-stop about himself and his FANTASTIC abilities and barely let me speak. Everything I asked for he contradicted--when I could get a word in--and when I asked to see the back and didn't like it (looked like a 1940s pageboy, heavy and thick at the bottom) he claimed I was trying to be something I'm not. I mean, how do you respond to a personal comment when you just want some layering? I was dumbfounded. So weird! Long story short Christina fixed it. Lovely person. But I'd avoid this place. It's tired--the seating area has a no magazines or tables and a non working fountain. Staff is brusque. You can do better. read more

I used to be a big fan of this salon until I had a couple bad experiences...haven't been back since. 1) I moved up from the city and thought I would go to TK because it was close to home. I immediately told them I wanted the best colorist and stylist and was willing to pay for it. The first stylists butchered my hair until I got Jinnie. She is awesome...she totally understood what I wanted and gets Asian hair. Sadly, she is no longer there, but I am determined to keep going to her wherever she goes because she is that good. 2) I used to get my hair colored by Linda. She did a wonderful job up until she told me she would never recommend highlighting my hair...even though that is what I wanted. Honestly, if you follow the Marshall Field motto of "Give the lady what she wants" you would never tell someone who wants highlights that she shouldn't get them. I'm paying for the service...you should do what your client requests without a sour attitude about it. I switched over the Marianne...but she also messed up my hair with chunky highlights. I had her color over it and have not been back since. 3) I had a manicure done by Alla and was not pleased with the service. She was usually really good with the manicures, but the last time I went, she was suffering from a cold and her nose was running. I was tempted to walk out because I thought I'd get sick myself. She must have been feeling awful because she berated me about having to remove my shellac polish to put on new polish. She made me feel bad about how long it was taking to remove the polish. I tipped her well and have not been back since. It was very rude...if you're sick, stay home...and if you're going to complain about removing polish, then don't offer shellac. 4) I tried a Reiki service there. I'm not sure if it was effective because the room they placed me it had horrible insulation. The whole point is to relax, but you can't when you hear the bass from the music system and the traffic outside. Never went back for that. 5) Loved my massage therapist, Barbara, but she is gone. :( She was really good and I haven't found someone who can compare. As for aesthetics, I don't care how outdated the building looks. I'm not there for that. I'm there to get good service...but not it seems like that isn't even possible. Never again. read more

My wife, son and I all desperately needed haircuts. We had getting our haircuts in the city for the last three years or so. With a 15 month old, it was getting to be a bit much to schlep into lake view every time we needed a haircut. Teddie's is about five minutes from our house and very reasonable. I can't remember the women they cut our hair, but both were great. The woman that cut my son and my hair was extremely patient, as I had to hold my son during both of our hair cuts. My wife grew her hair out for charity and had eight inches cut off. The stylist did a great job styling her shorter do. With the convenience of being so close to home, I imagine we will be back. read more

I got a pretty good massage at the Brenda Bendle Spa a few years back so I'm not sure if it still exists at Teddies. The Mani/pedi is average. I wouldn't ever pay to get my nails done here. When I did come here for nails I came with a gift certificate. I received a Brazilian wax by I think her name was Maria, she's Greek. She was super gentle and I barely felt anything. Very sweet and nice and provided great service. She alone earns a great review. She gets 5 stars. Overall this place is nice and I'd come back for a wax and a massage. read more

I went for a mani-pedi today and found out, after the manicure, while I was soaking for the pedicure, that the manicurist had gone to lunch! It took me awhile to realize she had left. After about 20 minutes, I left with wet feet. It's beyond my understanding why anyone would do anything like that--both the scheduler and the manicurist. They've lost my business. read more

Sad birthday girl.... Appt for full color and all over foils plus a few other svcs. Master Colorist suggested honey blond and minimal processing to my hair. I was leary at first but thought she was giving her expert opinion and I should follow it. I originally wanted a burg/violet color with a lot of dimension. After the color was done it looked like strings of brassy gold over my natural black. It looked cheap. I went back the same day and she redid it. Now it looks almost as black as when I walked in, no dimension and basically same all over color with a golden patch entirely missed in the back of my head. Then I was offered to dry my own hair :( To TK's credit, the staff that took care of me for the several services were polite and extremely nice. Including my colorist, even though the artistry and skill was extremely poor in my case. I purchased Clarins products & replacement brushes for my Clarisonic which was very convenient! Maybe just bad luck! Now I will have to get this color fixed somewhere else and hope for the best! read more

The only reason I gave this 3 stars is because my hair stylist, Stephanie, was amazing. However, getting to her was absolutely horrible. I had a Groupon for a blowout and either a Moroccan oil treatment or scalp treatment. I called to make an appointment and mentioned that I had a Groupon, which was my first mistake. The receptionist, Rina, instantly changed her tone of voice with me. She asked for the Groupon voucher # but since I called during work, I stepped away from my computer and didn't have it available. I told her I would call back when I got the number since I needed to get it. For some reason she wouldn't let me call back and just continued to sigh very loudly in the phone. Finally, I give her the number and book the appointment. However, she automatically booked me for the Moroccan oil treatment when I wanted to try the scalp treatment. So I called back and she asks me if I have any scalp issues. Knowing nothing about hair or what a scalp issue is, I say I have the occasional dandruff and she tells me in a very condescending way to buy a shampoo. The day of the appointment, which was at 9:45am, she calls me at 8am and tells me it is going to 1-2 hours for my hair and I need to come in earlier. Usually blow outs are 30 mins long but I agree. When I get there, my hair stylist is still on her previous customer. My hair stylist told me that she was actually behind due to a scheduling conflict. I have no idea why they asked me to come in earlier. And my appointment was only 30 minutes long. However, Stephanie was amazing and did a great job. She took her time with my hair and got it exactly how I wanted. I would definitely go back to her if the receptionist was better. read more

Very disappointed in this place. I Made an appointment to have my hair colored and for starters I had to wait 20 minutes to check in for my appointment because front desk employees on the phone or talking to customers leaving and other employees. Then had my color done and it was terrible. Had to return the following day and get it redone. I have never been placed under a dryer while the dye was on my hair in all the years I've had it done. Not just bad for your hair but made me feel rushed. Probably why I had to return to have it redone. Finally this place is way over priced. Also Very loud environment and better then you (up paddy) attitudes from staff. Especially at that front desk. I won't ever go back here. I have been a customer for about 14 years (that should be a pretty big hint about my satisfaction) :) and I highly recommend a visit here! :) Getting to the good stuff: Hair: GRACE - her cuts, updos and blow outs are the BEST and this is why I started coming to Teddies and why I have stayed. She has a cool fun hip style to her and if you have long hair she really knows how to work it - I especially love the knots that she does to make it look young and fun. AUGUSTINE (I hope the spelling is correct) - I love him (when I cheat on Grace - yes I get her permission first) he does a fantastic job. He has a very whimsical style and an elegance to his work. If you are looking a 1950's hairstyle or something romantic to match a wedding dress, Augustine is the way to go. JASON - who sits next to Aug is also fantastic. (Again, when I have permission from Grace ;)) He has a very different style and he creates hair art. If you feel comfortable let him do whatever he desires, just explain the occasion, your dress and the atmosphere and he will come up with something truly personal to you and the event. These three are seriously the best combination and the best hairstylist I have seen. You cannot go wrong with any of them. *Word of caution though - Grace will not touch your hair for an updo unless she has cut it first. Completely understandable and reasonable since she wants to get to know you, your personality and your hair before doing something drastic to it. But she is totally worth the wait and she is just a fabulous person in general. I do not get my hair dyed so I cannot comment about that and I get my nails done somewhere else but that is because I have followed a woman around for a while and I love her so I dont want to cheat on her with another nail technician but you must check out Teddie's Spa. The Spa use to be Brenda Bendel Day Spa and boy is it heaven down there. It is small and quaint but wonderful. You immediately feel at peace when you go in and the renovations are utterly beautiful. Top Picks: Angelina - best waxes - always does my brazilian have been going to her for 10 years!!! :) Carol Marie - fantastic makeup application - great for eyebrows and false lashes! Maria - great for waxes (facial) & make up! Michele - Facials - she is fantastic and calming and just know exactly what to do if you go there looking like a halloween creature. Mira - For Spray Tans Definitely a great place to go in an walk out feeling pampered! Teddie you have done a terrific job growing your business! This man = genius! :) *Note: My only issue is - you need another 1 or 2 desk people. Its way too packed and it would be great to not have a line to the door. (This is a three or four story building so there is a great deal of traffic flow of ppl and I have no idea where you would put it - but its just a suggestion). read more

I have been seeing Jinnie for my cut and Lindsey for my color for a few years now. Up until a week ago I would have given this salon 5 stars because every time I go I am so happy with the results. I also get threading done and it is amazing. BUT, last week I got an email from them telling me that their express blow out treatment is going up $26!!! I get a full highlight and a cut already which is already about $200 for my hair in itself! And I travel from Fox Lake which means I have to take off work early and spend the gas to get there! So it basically comes out to about $400 for me to get my hair done now including the shampoo I need for the keratin treatment. I wonder how long before my husband finds out.... read more

Oh it sounds great "A free consultation with Teddie" Mine consisted of Teddie not even getting up off his chair to look at my hair, asked me what I would like done and then called up one of his stylists to take care of me ! Is that a consultation? I think he thinks he is Donald Trump for some reason. After I got my high lights done which actually were very nice, I was told to go upstairs that Teddie wanted to see me again before the stylist cut my hair !!!!!! (I didn't go, I didn't see the reason). I must say I got a great hair cut and the stylist was very nice. The place is not overly clean and it's not a place you would get greatly pampered in. One more thing, while I was paying for it, Teddie was standing beside me and didnt even speak to me, let alone ask was everything ok. Yes, way over rated ! read more

I recently purchased a Groupon for this spa. I have never been here before but I'm often out in the burbs and thought why not give it a try. When I tried to reschedule it today, they said that they cannot accomodate changes because I have booked it through Groupon. I was completely thrown off. They then came back saying that they cannot discuss me the details of the policy of not allowing rescheduling on Groupon :O. I seriously have never heard of anything like this before. To top it all, the tone of the assistant was extremely snobbish. Now that I am going through reviews, I think it is because they have sold too many Groupons and are now not able to accomodate? I mean, seriously? Why sell Groupons if you are unable to honour them. I will of course put the same review in Groupon too. People buy groupons so that they can try out new places, and such an experience can be really offputting. read more

Based on the other reviews, I was mentally prepared for a bad experience. However, maybe because I had low expectations, I found the service to be quite acceptable. The woman who gave me my massage - Paula, did not use a lot of pressure during the massage, but still managed to target some of the problem areas in my back etc. The facial was worthwhile as well. The only thing I would say is, if you're expecting a shower after your massage and your using the massage/facial Groupon, they probably will not be able to accommodate you. This was the second time I went to Teddie Kossoff Salon to have my hair colored. The first time I wanted John to remove the coloring currently on my hair. John decided, without asking me, to do a double process. This time I asked for a double process to keep my hair the same color. John decided, again without asking me to dye my hair a different color. Eventually my money was refunded but my hair is a different color and an afternoon wasted. If you want to be treated like a lab rat, go ahead. I will not return. read more

Teddie Kossof Salon, thank you. Especially, Livian, the most amazing stylist. Two days ago I got extensions at a salon. I picked up extensions from Sally Beauty (they were garbage, even though they said 100 % real hair). The transition between my hair and the extensions was horrific, and the color was pretty off. I was already down $235, including $100 to hair, $135 to hairstylist for express Keratin and extension work. Not to mention HOURS wasted. I was so unhappy, and had to schedule a last minute dye job and cut. The only place open on a Sunday was Teddie Kossof. It's a place I always drove past, but never went in, expecting them to be super expensive. Nevertheless I was in a rush, as I had an interview the next day and didn't want to look...stupid. Apprehensively I called, and spoke with the nicest receptionist. She said she understood my story and would put me in the best hands. Inga amd Livian worked great as a team, working together to figure out the best plan for me. As soon as we wet my hair (for the 1st time since my extension service), the extensions were peeling out. After a bunch of looks from my neighboring client, feeling bad for me, the girl with hair literally falling from her hair in chunks. They had to be removed, and the glue scrubbed relentlessly from my scalp. Thank you Ally for working so hard. The Keratin treatment I had had at that other salon was also a waste.My hair looked damaged and dry. The ladies approached me about trying an ultra conditioning treatment, called Nigel. I knew I needed somethiing, but MAN, my hair is like silk. Great suggestion ladies, I don;t know how I've lived without it until now. Livian cut my hair, she was hilarious and unbelievably took my birdsnest to Jennifer Aniston in no time She really worked magic effortlessly. Price was so reasonable, and worth every penny. I will forever be married to Melissa Kaufman from Robert Gold Salon for color, but Inga was incredible. Livian is my new go-to for all other things hair related. I feel confident in how I look for my interview tomorrow. Thanks ladies! read more
