I hired Van Express on a personal recommendation. I had positive interactions with the staff when I called to get a quote. I gave my furniture inventory over the phone, made some corrections to the furniture inventory that I received from the company via email, and was happy with the price quote, so I booked them for my cross-town move. The movers showed up on time on the day of the move. However - as was immediately apparent to me when they arrived, and which I commented on first thing - they did not bring a vehicle large enough for my move. Instead of sending an actual moving truck - as they had done for the person who recommended them to me (who had moved with significantly less furniture!) - they sent a van and a trailer. I told the team leader immediately that I didn't think that our belongings would all fit. He did the in-person inventory of our apartment and said that it would all fit. Five hours later, they still insisted that it would all fit. Six hours later, they gave up on trying to make it all fit and admitted that they would have to make two trips between the apartment and house to move all of our belongings. Our move began at 10am and they did not unload the last of the belongings until after 8pm. The actual movers were kind and worked hard. They took good care of our things and we only had one small table break in the move. Because of the stress of the move and the confusion of the two trips, even they didn't provide the service that we were looking for. Boxes ended up in the wrong room and on the wrong floor, despite exceedingly clear labels. Our TVs were almost left on the truck and thankfully my husband realized that we did not have them before the team left. (We choose to believe that this was purely accidental after a long, hard move.) The real problem with the move, however, was that the dispatchers clearly screwed up and the company was not willing to take full responsibility for the error. I refused to pay for the full 10 hours of the move because the fact that they sent the wrong size vehicle cost us time in 2 ways: (1) the obvious way - needing to make two separate trips; and (2) the subtle way - the fact that the movers took an excessive amount of time loading the van (6 hours on the first trip!) because they were trying to make everything fit in one trip. When I spoke with the office, they were only willing to give me a break on 1.5 hours of time and claimed that they sent this vehicle combination (van plus trailer) for all moves of this size and that I had "lied" on the inventory. The only inaccuracy on the inventory was the number of boxes, and when I originally spoke with the office regarding my inventory and told them that I did not yet know the number of boxes, he said that it wasn't a problem - they'd estimate the number of boxes and the size of the vehicle based on the furniture inventory; the furniture inventory I gave was accurate. Furthermore, from the personal recommendation, I know that they do not always send a van plus trailer for moves of this size. I was incredibly disappointed with my experience with Van Express. I would not recommend them. And I would generally caution anyone hiring movers to be very careful with regard to the size vehicle that the company is going to use. And - if possible - try to get a guarantee with regard to the maximum amount of time for which you will be charged, or go with a flat-rate mover. read more

By far the worse decision I made hiring this company after constant communication with the sales rep assuring me the job at hand wasn't going to take longer than it was. My scheduled move was between 2-230pm I didn't receive a call till 2:30pm to let me know there running an hour late, no problem they showed up and looked as if they weren't prepared to do this job. All helpers were new and in training they sent me 3 guys which it should have just been the one gentleman that was the driver which he was doing all the work and continuously apologized for the other two helpers. Besides them damaging furniture and walls the job was supposed to take 3 hours in which it actually took over 6 hours. Two of the new guys were more concerned about how much rent that I paid carrying one item per time to move and moving slower than molasses. Then they charged me 60$ to put a box around my tv when he only put blankets around it and still charged me the 60$ then at additional 260$ because they went over the time. Then they said only cash!! I sent a complaint to the sales manager and his only reply was sorry fill out a claim form. I would recommend you make sure they don't send new helpers that do not know what they are doing because it's at your cost not the company. read more

Moved contents of 900 sq ft two bedroom house on July 12th, 2016. Hired through an Angie's List Big Deal. I sent a web form listing contents of house, then confirmed by phone what was on the list. I received an email with the list contents named. I emailed back increasing the number of boxes and adding several items that I had forgotten during the initial discussion (who REALLY knows how much stuff you have in your house?). I expressed concern that the list was short multiple items, and that I needed to increase the number of estimated boxes, and wanted to ensure a big enough truck was sent. The email response was not to worry - they would take care of it and the truck would be big enough. The contact person seemed nice and professional and responsive so I trusted them. We had a change in moving date, due to unexpected last minute closing delay, which the company was very responsive and understanding about changing. However I never received an email or written confirmation on the date/time change. This led to an issue on the moving date. I had written down a 9 am arrival time. When I called the moving company at 9:20 I was told no, it was 1 pm. I was positive it was 9 am, but there was nothing that had been confirmed in writing to support either side's claims. So we had to wait. Ultimately the movers did not arrive until after 3 pm - and did not even call to tell me they were on their way until after the expected 1 pm arrival time. I was informed that there would be four guys working on the move instead of the three that I had paid for in the deal, because they were late and needed to finish on time. I assumed that this was going to be covered by them, as their late arrival was certainly not my fault. Then as the truck got more and more full I was told I could be charged more because I had not accurately reported the amount of items I had. Now if the movers had arrived when I was expecting them, I had planned to move a lot of the smaller stuff on my own in the afternoon. I kept telling them, "no not that box" or "no not this item" intending to move it myself. BUT they said "oh it's no problem, no problem" and continued to carry everything to the truck. I let this go because I was leaving the next morning for three days out of town, and since they were late and everything got so badly backed up, because I was back and forth on the phone as well with the construction people and the utilities trying to coordinate everything afresh, I allowed them to put more in the truck than was planned. Also, I had emailed and spoken to the company by phone and TOLD them that I had to add some additional items that were not included on the list and was told by return email not to worry about it, it was all covered, everything was fine. In the end the truck was exactly big enough for everything. However .... when we got everything over to the new house (less than 1 mile away) I was informed by the movers that I was going to owe TWICE the agreed upon price ($1200 instead of the $600 I had paid through the deal), because 1) extra guy and 2) more stuff than was on the list. If they had told me they were going to charge me for all the stuff I had told them not to put on the truck but they insisted was "no problem" I absolutely would not have allowed it! Nor would I have allowed the fourth man if I had been told ahead of time I would be charged extra! I was also told that I had to go to the bank and get cash to pay this, not a check or credit card. I was ALSO told that the mover would "work with me" on the price if I could tip something for his workers since it was so hot and they had had such a long day. I was so angry I left to go to the bank and called the contact person I had been given at the company on the way but - conveniently - it was after 6 pm by now - and no one was there. I handed the man $600 cash (having already paid $600 through Angie's List deal). He asked me where was the rest. I informed him I had already paid that and pointed out on the invoice where it said PAID. He then called someone in billing (conveniently THEY answered the phone) to confirm I had paid. I insisted on a receipt for the cash, so he wrote down that I had paid $1,000 and pocketed the remaining $200. Then while leaving he said that I should call him to help move my daughter to college this fall and wrote his personal cell number on my invoice so I could call him directly and not go through the company. We used a deal on Angie's List and were happy with the results. The guys packed up all our items very nicely to ensure that nothing was damaged. When they arrived at our house they told us right away they thought not everything would fit in the truck that we ordered. However, they used every corner of that truck and were able to only leave a few items behind that we moved in our own vehicles. I did feel that it took much longer than I expected but the guys did seem to be working hard the whole time. They were very pleasant to work with. read more

I'm sorry to say we did not have a good experience. The owner, Lazhar, seemed upfront upon meeting him; however, his workers were careless and the job was not completed properly. About 20% our belongings were left behind. We were shocked, to say the least, when we went back to our house to make sure everything had been moved. The staff worked hard and were pleasant, but we were extremely inconvenienced by having to go back to the house to meet the workers to complete the job. read more

Van Express did my move last weekend and I have to say -- Louis and his crew (Leo and Sean, I believe?) were amazing. Moving has got to be the biggest pain in the butt (and I had a LOT of boxes) but they worked quickly and got me into my new place in a reasonable amount of time (they barely took breaks!). Louis is very thorough in explaining what to expect, which I appreciated, and the guys were professional, careful with my stuff, and still in good moods at the end of the day (even when I was starting to fade). Hopefully I won't be moving again for a while, but I'd definitely use them again! read more

Lazar you are quite the lier. You didn't come to do the move and your workers didn't properly do my move and even my kids heard the foreman being inappropriate with me. My real estate agent saw your movers do an improper job. So I have a witness. When you initially came to my home you looked at all my stuff and gave me a quote to move all of my stuff not just part of my stuff. No one just moves part of their stuff if they are selling a house. The only thing I was moving was the boxes marked fragile and even when your movers came I told your foreman several times not to touch those boxes and they put them on the truck anyway. They never wrapped my music equipment and put things not in the appropriate areas even though each box was marked where to put it and what was in it such as food goes in kitchen....quite obvious but stuffed in my basement despite my even telling the guys. I had 5 other quotes who all quoted me the 7 hours give or take an hour to move all my stuff not just a partial. You want to now lie and disparage me because I am a single mom and state all lies. You were not there to state what your guys did. They didn't even show up in a proper moving truck for my size house and one of your professional trucks but showed up in a smaller Budget Van. When I spoke to Tommy from the referring moving company he even said that was improper and yes I let him know everything that took place. If you want referrals then you treat each person and job in the proper manner it should be. I didn't deserve for my stuff to be mistreated or myself. You got paid your money but I absolutely will be letting all the agencies & the press know what your company did, how I was treated, and how my stuff was treated. Plus who takes the hardware out of the bookcases and furniture and doesn't give it to the homeowner. I would never refer a single person to this company. I may be a single mom but I am no push over and will not let this company get away with doing this to another person. When any company is hired for a job they are supposed to be professional from the beginning of the job to the end. They are supposed to wrap all the furniture if that is what they claim they will be doing and is on their video which is on your video, they show up in a proper size truck and your truck not some other companies truck, and the workers load up what the homeowner wants and unloads where they want it. They also put the furniture back together another thing that is on your video. So you are falsely advertising your services and how you will treat people's belongings just to get jobs. That the public should know about. I didn't falsely advertise anything but you want to make up lies to make your company look good but I have your video as evidence of what you state your company will do and that they are professionals, I have an independent witness, I have photos and video, and all the boxes that are clearly labeled that are not put in proper places. I also have pictures of all the stuff you left behind that took me and my kids 3 days to move. You thought you would get one over on someone like me but I'm going to make sure your company pays for what you damaged and the public knows not to use a company that does such things to others. There are plenty of movers out there so why would anyone want to use a company that did what your company did to me. Next time maybe you should be over seeing your guys but how dare you disparage me when you didn't witness anything for yourself and from reviews I saw you weren't on other jobs and things weren't done properly. My husband and I experienced several issues with this mover, and would strongly recommend you look elsewhere. We made reservations over a month in advance. The day before the move, we received a call asking if they could move us the day after we had originally scheduled because they booked another client on the morning of our reservation. We explained that we absolutely could not postpone the move and we were assured everything would be okay. If they had given us earlier notice than the day before, then we could have made alternative arrangements. On moving day they showed up 1.5 hours late. This made it so the drivers were going to NYC in close to rush hour traffic which added an extra hour to the cost of the move. This also caused a huge inconvenience in terms of arranging service elevator time at our new building. Additionally, the crew was completely incompetent. They showed up to the wrong building. When they finally got to our building they started to move our furniture to the wrong floor. When they finally got to the correct apartment, they just threw our boxes and furniture aggressively on the floor. Our couches were were laid on their sides, the dresser was upside down etc. Completely unprofessional. Please do yourself a favor a look elsewhere for your moving needs, or you will be disappointed. read more

We recently used Van Express for moving furniture from a relatives house in NJ to my house in Long Island. The movers called us ahead of time to give us their eta and showed up as scheduled. They were a team of two men. They packed and unpacked all furniture with such care. It was just a great experience. If I ever had reason to move furniture again I would use them. read more

The worst experience ever with movers. They negotiated a 'too good to believe' rate and (as we should have expected) it was too good to be true. They waited until 2 days before they were due to pack our stuff, then told us we had to pay $2000 in CASH in advance. Either that or they would hold up delivery for up to 10 days while 'the credit card cleared'. Has anyone ever heard of credit cards taking that long to clear? Bottom line, either pay them the $2000 in cash or find another mover. I started thinking these guys are so shady, maybe I wouldn't see my stuff anymore. We told these guys forget it, we'll find a reputable mover who doesn't need to be paid in cash, in advance. I would never recommend these guys to anyone. read more

I feel lucky to have found Van Express! I recently moved from Manhattan to Boston and everything from start to finish was great. Scheduling with them on the phone was a pleasure as their customer service was extremely friendly. The movers themselves were very courteous even when they had to lug very heavy furniture up flights of stairs! Also, they were very careful with all of my breakables. I greatly appreciated that they packed my apt in the morning and met me in Boston later that day! I also appreciated that I didn't have to share a moving van with anyone else; the moving van was solely dedicated to my belongings. Their prices are also great. Highly recommended! read more

These are the WORST movers. Not only were multiple items damaged during my move from NY to Chicago (like my couch and flatscreen TV- which has a huge crack in it) but they are extremely rude and unprofessional. The way they have dealt with us and spoken with us have been offensive. We were promised a reimbursement for our damaged belongings months ago and have still yet to receive it even after multiple requests. There are plenty more reliable movers out there who will take responsibility for your items and will treat you and your items with a lot more respect. Just used Van Express to move my mother-in-law's furniture (large 2-BR apartment) from Brooklyn to Northern Virginia. Their estimate was in the middle of several estimates. They honored the estimate notwithstanding that we added a few small items on moving day. They arrived on time; worked hard; wrapped the furniture carefully; arrived on time in Northern Virginia; again worked hard unloading the furniture at our home and at a storage facility. No damage to anything. Employees spoke English fluently. Foreman Luis and helper Omar were great. Front-office manager Dave answered my several e-mails in advance of the move promptly. Firm forwarded the required insurance certificate to the landlord timely. read more

1. I called two weeks in advance to ensure the date I needed was available. My information was taken but when I called to confirm the move, it was stated my information was not entered therefore the date was no longer available. I had to rearrange my schedule to accommodate the new date. 2. The day of the move, I was informed there will be an additional $150 charge for packing materials. The "packing materials" consist of two boxes, two used large boxes for the flat screens and mover's tape. 3. Once the move was completed, I offered a $60 tip which was rejected and informed the tip is $100 . Supposedly the additional $150 will be waived and the additional half hour will also be waived. This is the first time I was dictated how much I should tip. In total, I was charged $900 to move only one mile. Unfortunately, not good overall experience. 4. I tried to write this review on MovingCompanyReviews.com and the moving company demanded to take down my review, which they were successful in doing.
