This was the first time I've ordered from here but I've been eyeing up the menu for awhile because they have beef dips and French dips. I ordered the beef dip and onion rings. The beef was so incredibly tender and flavourful and the bun was fresh and soft. Albeit could have used a bit more butter. The au jus was nice and savoury and just the right amount of salty. I think I'd add grated cheddar next time to kick it up a notch or some fried mushrooms. Very good. My sandwich came with a side (onion rings)- still crispy when my order got here and coleslaw which was fresh but under seasoned. I'm really amazed at how good and tender the beef was. I feel like Teddy's inside is not what you'd expect looking at Teddy's outside. I lived nearby for years before I went in, and it's a little bit like stepping into a time machine (minus the VLTs). It's actually kind of nice inside. I always thought it would be much sketchier than it is. The food isn't great... I'd stick with your classic pub fare. I've had the poutine and the steak sandwich, which were acceptable, but I tried ordering something a bit more "modern" (although I forget what it was at the moment) and it was not great. I'm a fan of their pies, even though I always forget they sell pie when I'm craving it and don't want to go far from home. (That might be for the best.) The service I've found to be pretty good. Friendly and fast. Once, I was there with a friend and we were trying to split the bill at the end of the evening. Our server did it in his head, right in front of us, while I (the mathematician) fumbled with the calculator on my phone. It's possible that might be worth a whole star itself. I like Teddy's for a quieter drink on the weekends. Most of the bars in that area are full and loud, but sometimes I just want to chat over a beer on a Saturday night without having to go very far. They also have an upstairs that can be booked for events, but I've never been up there. read more

Upon entering the store I was hit with this stale old smell and there is nobody there to greet. Immediately noticing how deserted the place is, I see a server sitting down and upon noticing me, she instructs me to sit anywhere. I asked for orange juice, and was brought out a small glass of watered down concentrate orange juice, it had this sweet taste to it, I barely drank any of it. The server was polite enough, not friendly but this is not unusual for the service industry in Edmonton. After reviewing the menu, the prices were pretty standard for casual breakfast, between $10-$15 for breakfast meals, there were not many options, just your standard eggs & sausage meal and omelette options. No french toast, no pancakes, I gather this isn't much of a breakfast place to begin with. Upon ordering, I received my food quite quickly, considering I was the only one in the place ordering a meal this didn't surprise me. The food itself came out warm, eggs were good as was the toast. It was a hearty serving of food. Unfortunately, the hash browns were repulsive, it was almost as if they cooked the hash browns, then soaked them in grease before serving them, they were mushy and the sheer thought of them makes my stomach churn as I write this. The sausages were standard, nothing special, I only had one of them. I should have gotten the message when I walked in, the place being deserted, to walk back out as that in itself was not a good sign especially when there were other restaurants I had walked by with quite a few patrons. I did provide a basic 15% tip when I paid for the meal, it came to a total of $17 (with tip). I could have paid the same at a chain restaurant like Dennys or Ricky's and received a more pleasurable meal. I would not recommend this place to anyone, if you are in the area, go elsewhere, don't be lured in by the charm of supporting an independent local eatery. I went in, open-minded hoping for good comfort food, and I left disappointed and underwhelmed. Steer clear. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you, this place is NOT a strip club from 1982! The inside is like your grandpa's mancave, all wood paneling and exposed brick, which I noticed is what the renovated Earl's and others have been doing as well. So outdated it's chic again eh? The servers all seem to be recent Eastern European immigrants happy to be doing their job every time I'm in - today I came with my sister and the coffee was refilled 4x before I realized what I'd done to myself, LOL. Dinner is average here, but the brunch is great value, as others have said. 3 eggs with the eggs Benedict, homemade Hollandaise and they finally added a slice of orange to the dish. Stay in the relatively sunnier main room with the mature patrons and away from the VLT lizards, and I daresay you'll come back around again. read more

I don't really know why people dump all over this restaurant. My fiance and I went there for supper last night, and I was really worried about walking into a nightmare because of lukewarm reviews on here and Urbanspoon. It's not a fancy, modern restaurant. You can kind of tell just by looking at the exterior. It has been in Edmonton for numerous decades and is more of the place where you'd go just to have a good, classic meal. Think steak and potatoes. We went in, were greeted and seated promptly. The server was gentleman-like and pulled out all the traditional stops, such as pulling my seat out for me. He was friendly and told us some history of the place, as well as some recommendations. It was an interesting, unique atmosphere. We were entertained by the antiques and the old-fashioned sort of feel. Our meal arrived in good timing and was exactly what we ordered. I had a tenderloin steak. It was reasonably priced and it was probably the best steak I have eaten in a restaurant. (I have eaten steak in lots of those fancy, trendy restaurants). My fiance's chicken was apparently very good too. After our lovely meal, we tried their flapper pie, which they are apparently well known for-- it was a huge, delicious piece. No, our meal was not cheap, but it wasn't unreasonable considering how good it was. Everyone around us seemed to be happy. There are no minors allowed in the restaurant (except if you are having a party upstairs), but we kind of like that. It's a good, old trusty place to go with other adults, for a casual adult kind of night. You're basically going for dinner in a lounge. There are VLT's in the bar area. The dining area is smaller. They have a whole floor upstairs that can be rented out for events for all ages at a very reasonable cost. We will definitely be going back! read more

With its old brick exterior, opaque windows, and dubious name, I always thought Teddy's was a strip club. Eventually, I learned there are no girls swinging from poles here. Instead, I discovered a strange, but interesting place. When I walked in, the host seemed very familiar. Then when I sat down, I realized that I just saw her in the advertisement out front. Then I saw her again in the brochure and business card--and then she took my order. She is everywhere! I ordered breakfast--bacon, eggs, and hash browns. It was all right--the bacon was somewhat burnt and the potatoes were blah, but the whole atmosphere of the place made up for it. Strange, old 70s style decor, interesting paintings, old people, VLTs--I thought it was great. A fancy staircase leads to a room upstairs that you can rent out for private parties. It's not the best food, but it's not bad. And the whole weirdness of it all entertains me. Stopped in for lunch and it was A-OK. It's a bit of a weird spot, more of an older crowd. My gal pal and I were definitely the youngest ones in there by several years. The food was actually was pretty good (my clubhouse had a delicious sweet mayo) and it wasn't overly pricey. The service was alright, although I felt a bit rushed to pay the bill. At least the coffee was flowing through the meal, but the waitress forgot to bring my water. I first came to Teddy's for a party. Friends had rented out the entire upstairs for a 1930's themed murder mystery . It was a great place for such an event. Very retro cool in their decor. I returned to Teddy's with my family for Sunday brunch. However, they cannot seat minors downstairs because of the video gambling. So we were forced to sit upstairs with our baby. We were the only customers seated upstairs, which actually turned out to be a good thing because our child could move around and we weren't afraid of disturbing other patrons. The staff did forget about us from time to time, though. The food was unremarkable. Decent omelets, but nothing spectacular. We looked at the dinner menu, and they don't appear to be too friendly to vegetarians, so despite Teddy's being superclose to our home, we are not likely to go back there. However, I might consider renting out the upstairs for a fabulous party. read more

Pricey pub with food that is not what you expect for pricey I don't mind Teddy's. If I'm in the neighborhood it's an option. The food is OK. I just find that the prices are terribly high considering what you get. It's a pub with a pretty full menu. I'm not a drinker, so the pub part doesn't impress me. Got take out (thank goodness) and when I walked in it smelled very dusty, mildewy, and generally old. I walked up to the bar (no greeting) and looked across the bar to find a man gruffly looking me up and down. Gave me the creeps. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

I'd like Teddy's if it were in a small town and there weren't many other places to go. It's got a small-town dive feel, serves up a great, if over-priced-steak, and opens at 10 in the morning, so tends to be a local a.m. watering hole for people nursing hang-overs from the night before (although they don't start serving 'til the legal time - 11 a.m). I despise places who advertise VLTs as their inside entertainment, like Teddy's does. Big neon signs beckoning bored, addictive personalities inside. They prey on inner weakness and are a truly despicable moment in our province's history that has not yet passed. Anyway, Teddy's seems to be part of a circult of bars for old-timers, including Kelly's, The Sawmill and Martini's. The same faces go from place to place ( I know, because I used to hang a lot at Kelly's and heard the scoop). So if you're looking for a livelier, younger crowd you're not likely to find it at Teddy's. This is the place George and Linda go to get out of the house on a Friday night for a big-ass steak and some video lottery excitement. Not my kinda place. read more

Ok, not sure what's with all the negative reviews here because Teddy's is one of my most favourite breakfast places in the city. I drop in at least once a month for Sunday brunsch and it's always delicious: excellent egg benedict and huge fluffy pancakes. A friend of mine had her post-wedding brunsch reception here and they set out the BEST breakfast buffet. I about died... and not just because I caused a massive heart attack due to consuming my weight in sausage and bacon, I about died of happiness because the scrambled eggs were so delicious. The coffee at Teddy's is the only thing that leaves something to be desired. Now, I've never ventured in here for lunch or dinner, which is maybe why my review can remain so sunny, but I swear to you, if you go in for breakfast you will not be disappointed. read more

My family and I decided to give Teddy's another chance. Some of the menu items were actually pretty decent and we did takeout from Teddy's on a regular basis for a while. We especially liked the corned beef sandwiches, and learned that they cure and prepare the meat themselves. However, the corned beef has become a disappointment because it is so inconsistent. Sometimes it is delicious and at other times terrible. At one time we were served corned beef that was sour tasting. Most recently, my brother ordered a corned beef sandwich that was over-dosed with some sweet spice. He gave me a piece of meat to taste, and I literally had to spit it out. He managed to get through the sandwich by dousing it with hot mustard to kill the taste. We decided that we will not go back. My father did complain but they said that they have no other complaints and sell lots of their corned beef every day. They are implying that he is a liar when they won't even taste it themselves. They made it certain that they will not stand behind their product either to replace the corned beef or refund our money. This is no way to conduct a business and will cost them many regular customers such as my family. read more

Zero Stars, the worst food in Edmonton! Don't let the ambiance and decor fool you, Teddy's has the worst food in Edmonton. We ate there a couple of nights ago... the clam chowder soup was watery and mostly potato, we each ordered the rib-eye, done medium. What we got was something thin resembling a flank steak, tough, and way past well done, charred around the edges. This was accompanied by limp and tasteless vegetables. After a couple of bites we couldn't stomach any more and sent everything back. The waitress was indifferent... only offering to heat up the meal, like 2 minutes in a microwave could save it... the staff offered no resolution or compensation for a food bill of $80 for 2, not including beverages and wine, so this was a very expensive lesson on where not to eat out. We will never go near the place again. read more

I love Teddy's this is a fun place to go for breakfast on the weekends. Especially because breakfast is served until 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Teddy's has young and old come in and that is the cool thing. You don't just have one type of person come for a meal. It's got a laid back atmosphere and the staff are very nice. I personally love the reuben if I am going for lunch. For breakfast I like the eggs Benedict. Sometimes they do special events on the second floor. I was at a Breast Cancer Fundraiser in May that Teddy's had sponsored. It was awesome because they show cased local Edmonton talent and helped out a good cause. I love the food and I think it's worth going in and checking things out. Oh and if you get a chance try the Chocolate cheesecake. It's to die for and I believe it's homemade actually. read more

Great location. Oddly a hidden little gem on Jasper Ave that has been there forever. The decor is all a matter of taste. The wood working is beautiful. Could use some new carpets, but they ain't gonna spend the money on a pricey remodelling. If you want the hippest and coolest of decor this is not the spot for you. The food is good and well-priced. Service is always great, usually because there aren't too many customers. They have their regulars playing the VLTs on the side, but it somehow works on the inside. read more

Went for lunch and ordered a turkey sandwich..took 2 bites and noticed in between the other half of my sandwich and my coleslaw a hair, called the waitress over and she took it back to get me a new one...end of issue...then upon leaving the owner was waiting for us at the front door...he said that 20,000 other restaurants in the city..he doesnt need our business and please dont come back...that it was probably my mothers hair (she was sitting at the other end of the table)...overpriced for food that is not that good and the owner gets rude when I find their hair in my food! I was really excited to try Teddy's as I had driven past it about 1000 times (it's located right on Jasper Av so most of us have driven past it) and I had heard some good things, but I was really disappointed overall. I found the inside to be really dark and outdated and I would be surprised if there had been any updates since it first opened. We decided to give it a chance anyways even though we were the only ones in there besides the regulars sitting at the VLT machines across from our table. To put this into perspective, it was 8 pm on a Saturday, so I was definitely expecting it to be busier. Our server was nice, but there were a few times that he could have come and filled up my water and didn't. We also had to wait a really long time for our food, which was surprising considering the place was so empty. When the food finally did come I found it to mostly be "meh". I ordered the Reuben sandwich with fries and coleslaw, and both the fries and slaw were good, but mostly just average. The sandwich itself was actually pretty gross. I got through about half of it before I stopped because the cheese was not fully melted and there was weird white globs of something all throughout the sandwich. For $17, I thought that I would be getting something much tastier. All in all, I think Teddy's is tolerable, but by no means was I impressed and I can't see myself heading back again. read more

Never ate in the restaurant, however my wife and i were goin to have our reception dinner here until the owner's wife became very rude in stating " they don't need our buisness". All we did was ask for a small sample plate to make sure it was what we wanted on the special day. However she was extreamly rude in stating several times in a single senctence that she doesnt need our buisness and maybe we should go somewhere else. So of course we did, I don't need that type of behaviour from someone who is suppose to be a professional.
