While on vacation on Oahu, Hawaii with the family, we visited Ted's Bakery. The reviews recommended it, but we had the worst experience ever. We ordered two Pineapple Coconut cake pieces. The attendant Aleth was not friendly and served us two hard and frozen pieces that we could not eat. The rest of the family ordered other cakes that were soft. When I let Aleth know, she seemed unhappy and had an attitude. She offered the refund and kept loudly complaining about it to her coworker. When I told her to be nice to her customers, she continued with her bad attitude. Unhappy workers should take the day off. People like her do not realize that they have a job thanks to the tourists. I would stay away from this place!! read more

Went here for Pies, they are delicious as always, especially the Chocolate Haupia and the Lilikoi Cheesecake one. But customer service is a big fat ZERO. What is up with the super grouchy younger female counter worker, talk about zero customer service or even any sort of personality. I get that you have to deal with tourist all day (which we are locals btw) but at least pretend to be somewhat of a decent person. It was appalling to witness such a miserable human being. read more

After snorkeling and lunch at a food truck, my man brought us here for a dessert surprise. I freaked out from seeing a long ass line, but when I got out of the car while my man parked, I realized it was for food orders. I was the only person in line to get dessert. There were three people inside the store. As I waited in line, I noted this place has been "Hawaii's Best" for five years in a row. No wonder my man wanted to come here! The four of us shared: 1. Pineapple Macadamia Nut Cheesecake - it was good, but I think there's too much going on with this cheesecake. It was smooth and creamy, I'm not sure if I tasted the macadamia, but there was definitely pineapple. 2. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream Pie - How can you go wrong with this? When you put chocolate and peanut butter together, you know it's a winner! 3. Chantilly Cake - This was my fave out of the three. The chocolate cake was moist while the filling was sweet and creamy. The almonds on the side gave more excitement to the cake. It was nice how they had spacious outdoor dining across the street where we enjoyed our treats. I'm curious about their hot food, which seems to be popular. I wish we had lunch here instead. Might've been a long wait, but it could've been worth it. Huh. Few friends had recommend with their Chocolate Haupia Pie, so I just came for that. Once you go in, there is a refrigerator to the left and I grabbed just a slice of the chocolate haupia pie and paid for at the register. It's out door tables that you and sit and eat your food. I sat down and took the first bite of the Chocolate Haupia Pie, it had some crunch to it which was so good. I wish I could have taken this back home to California, but I'm pretty it won't make it back. If my friends recommend the Chocolate Haupia Pie, I'm also going to recommend it as well. We bought desserts on our way back to Waikiki from a Northshore beach. We didn't get to try meal items. There wasn't a long line upon arrival but by the time we left, the line was extremely long. It is very popular. We got the chocolate pie, dream cake and a pack of small donuts. The chocolate pie was so simple and yet divine. The dream cake was light and yummy. The donuts had just the right hint of something that made it special. However customer service sucked--not a single smile from either of the two employees, with no friendliness at all. It is the worst customer service or lack thereof experience we had in this summer vacation. So disappointing. read more

Fantastic little gem! They don't just serve bakery items / they have a full kitchen with breakfast/lunch items - many Hawaiian classic plates! We opted for two slices of guava cake, one coconut roulade, and two croissants. Brought everything back to our hotel, we stayed at Ted's to enjoy one slice of Guava cake and coffees sitting outside - ample covered seating. The bakery items were fantastic and fresh! The chocolate haupia pie here was the most memorable food item on my trip! It was so amazing and exceeded my expectations. The pie was extremely light yet creamy, and the chocolate and coconut flavors were so well balanced. Truly perfection in every bite! We also got the lemon chicken and the smaller portion was plenty of food. The sauce and chicken were very tasty and gave me an overall solid impression of their savory dishes. I would want to try their other lunch items the next time I'm back in the area. The parking lot is really small but fortunately there's plenty of street parking. Finally, after all these years, we made it to Ted's Bakery on 6/14/23! It's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. We tried the chocolate haupia pie and carrot cake. The haupia pie is already sliced and put in a fridge. You help yourself after you pay. The pies were all broken but still delicious. We enjoyed both pies. We'll definitely try other food. I can only speak for the pies here, but THEY ARE SO GOOD. We came here twice during our trip cause it was that good. The Chocolate Haupia Cream Cake is what they're known for & it was definitely worth the drive. The other two pies we got were just as good. When you arrive, there is a parking lot right outside with maybe 15ish spots. You line up outside & when it's your turn- you go to either of the fridges & choose what pies you want. There are food items you can order as well, but my eyes were only on the pies. If you're coming to North Shore- definitely a must visit. Ted's is a mainstay and a must every time I'm back home. The chocolate haupia pie is my favorite. Now that they have place lunch, this is where I go to get my garlic shrimp. Their shrimp are huge and delicious, full of garlic and butter. The rice is perfect, not soggy like another place that's very well known but has been going downhill lately imo. No one likes wet soggy rice. It's busy as always, lots of tourists. There's a lot of tables and benches set up outside for eating there now and they have an ample parking lot. This was our last meal stop before heading to the airport on our way out of Hawaii, and was on my gf's list of eateries to visit (a list which tends to be bakery-heavy). Since we were about to board a long flight to the mainland, we ordered dishes that were on the heavier side. I got my perennial Hawaiian breakfast order (loco moco) and my gf got hers (egg croissant sandwich) as well as a chocolate haupia pie. My loco moco was good. The best part of it was the beef patties, which tasted as though they were marinated (or at least they had some nice spices cooked into them). It was also massive - I like rice and eat a lot of it but could not finish the dish (note: I also substituted extra rice for mac salad because I find mayonnaise-based salads revolting). The gravy and eggs were unremarkable, but fine. My gfr's order were better. She reported that the croissant was light and fluffy and that the rest of the sandwich ingredients were comparably tasty. However, the winner was the haupia pie. The texture was light and airy, and I thought the flavors of the coconut and chocolate, although certainly prominent, were not overwhelming (and moreover were well balanced). I would like to go here again (as would my gf), as I think that our orders did not capitalize on the specialties of the establishment (i.e., the baked goods). The pie is what makes Ted's Bakery! We got a mixed plate which came with a side of pie and opted for the Chocolate Macademia. You must definitely eat the pie before the plate. The pie wil melt and fall apart so fast! Eat the pie first! It was super creamy and sweet and delicious. I know it's not common to eat dessert before the main course but you gotta make an exception this time. We got the Mixed plate with Kalbi, Lemon chicken, and Mahi Mahi. The kalbi came with just one piece but it had a nice smokey flavor. The lemon chicken was super good! Bready and crispy and the lemon sauce was super good! The plate comes with a lot as well. While driving around the island, my friends and I were hungry and we just so happened to be nearby Ted's! It was recommended to me by many friends. They specifically stated that they loved their garlic shrimp. I ordered it myself and I really enjoyed it! It was so saucy and garlicky! I really appreciated how they were already peeled as well! My friends got some cakes and pies. The carrot cake was delicious and I personally liked that there weren't any raisins in it. The dream cake just tasted like an ordinary chocolate cake but I dont mean that in a bad way, it was also very good! Lastly, the strawberry guava pie was also delicious! I did a little garlic shrimp show down with some of the North shore's most popular spots and Ted's Bakery was my favorite of the three (also tried Giovanni's and Jenny's). I love that the shrimp was fried so that there was a bit of a crunch factor. It was super savory with the melted cheese. It came swimming in a pool of melted garlic butter that I can drench with that sticky sushi rice. Chef's kiss. It's a little more pricy compared to others (~$23), but comes with a side of macaroni salad and your choice of pie (which is what Ted's bakery is infamous for). Born and raised on Oahu, tried their pies from the stores but never found their actual store as I've gone driving around the island countless times, until today. Ted's is a small, non-obtrusive store tucked off the side of the Kamehameha Highway . Go too fast or looking elsewhere you'll certainly miss it. Lucky us, today we found it. I've heard they are always busy and today was nothing new. People coming, people going, people eating their meals and desserts outside under a tent made for eating and a flurry of busy tourists and locals inside deciding their fate for the day. After scurrying around for that one special piece of their famous chocolate haupia pie we settled on our second course. We chose the mini hamburger steak (Peter's go to) and a mini spicy, garlic mahi mahi for me. Placed our order and sat under the tent with the buzzer in hand, waiting anxiously for the vibration to go off. About 10 minutes later that anticipated buzz went off, signaling our food was ready. No time was wasted collecting our food, we were ready! With food in hand, we sat under a covered tent with luau seating ready to enjoy. The portions was consistent of a mini. On hand-made, perfectly grilled hamburger patty covered with ample brown gravy, a topped with slices onions. The hamburger cooked perfectly; moist, not undercooked or overcooked. Gravy not from scratch, yet very delicious and lots of it. Mac salad point on. Something I'd order again The mahi mahi plate came with two palm-sized egg washed grilled mahi. Topped with an amazing garlic topping and a side dish of Thai chili sauce for dipping; either way both were good. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked. A must try. Both Meals came with one scoop rice and any locals favorite, one scoop Mac salad. We finished everything with that slice of chocolate haupia pie. As it has been said, "nothing better than a fresh pie" and it certainly holds true here. As I mentioned before, I've had their pies bought from a grocery store, but this was amazing. Everything was fresh. The crust was buttery and flaky. The filling and whip cream toppings tasted oh so fresh. Their prices did go up, but I would say worth every nickel. It's street parking folks. Just be careful crossing Kamehameha Hwy, it's a very busy road and often times drivers are looking at our beautiful scenery so be their eyes. Came here for the first time last week. I enjoyed the food, but I did not enjoy how this woman treated my mom and I. She had an attitude for no reason. Giovanni's Shrimp Truck has been my absolute favorite every time we come to Oahu so I had full intention of going back there again this trip. When my friend found out how much I love Giovanni's Shrimp Truck, she really asked me to give Ted's Bakery a try. She said it was so much better and tastier so based on her recommendations we drove to Ted's bakery. We ordered one garlic shrimp plate and two spicy garlic shrimp plate. The food came with two scoops of rice and their famous pie. I was so excited for the garlic shrimp because the day before the kids thoroughly enjoyed my order of garlic Shrimp from the Ono Seafood and Steak Shack but nope, not this time. I had to beg them to eat and for my husband and my girls, one bite each was enough. They didn't like the garlic shrimp at all. Perhaps because the shrimp is not shell on, it was very over cooked. We tried the chocolate huapia and macadamia nut pies. Chocolate huapia has a hint of chocolate taste but not too much. It's just the right amount of sweet as well and the texture is creamy and soft. We were looking so much towards enjoying Ted's Bakery. I called ahead and was told the line was maybe 20 mins long so we came over and got in line. The line to place our order was 20mins, ok fair. Then we waited for our food to come out. 15 mins later, nothing. 15 mins after that, someone came out to tell us shoyu chicken was sold out and to pick something else. 15 minutes after than, everyone we had seen before and after us in line was gone. It took 50 mins to receive our food, plus 20 mins lining up to place our order. Taking over an hour ( this does not include the time to eat the food) so we could each have 2 spare ribs and 3 pieces of garlic shrimp with a scoop of white rice was way too much time to invest from our precious vacation time and basically wasted a whole bunch of time. The spare ribs and garlic shrimp were fine. I don't understand what's different, unique or better about the food here. I can get this level of food quality and flavor back home. By the time we reach North Shore, we're pretty full but always stop by here for 2nd/3rd dessert. My only critique is that the slices are prepackaged so there could be condensation collected at the bottom that results in a not so appetizing soggy bottom; watch out for that! The parking lot is small, but I'd you come at an off time, shouldn't worry about parking. read more
