I feel like it's called a bakery for a reason. Haupia pie, amazing. Their cakes, fantastic. Donuts, so good especially when they open in the morning. Their savory dishes however are good. Not as great as their baked goods. We stayed at Turtle Bay and frequented to Ted's in the morning. Their plate lunches are good but I'm not blown away. We also had the chicken katsu, it was good. Grabbed take out from Ted's Bakery just before catching the sunset in North Shore, and I was surprised to find that it was such a short line! Little did I know, it was because we arrived near closing time, and OF COURSE all their top pie choices were already out :'( What I love about Ted's Bakery is that even though it seems like such a popular spot, their prices are very reasonable. More so, each plate comes with a slice of pie - their staple!! We got 2 plates - a mixed plate and a garlic shrimp plate. Each plate came with 2 scoops of rice and one scoop of mac salad. Honestly so much food but the meat were so tender and juicy! Lucky for us, Ted's Bakery have their pies sold at Foodland Farms, so we were able to try a few of their signature pies. My personal favorite was the chocolate cream pie (didn't really care for haupia cream), and the pineapple macadamia nut pie. Don't even think about it, just order the Spicy Garlic Shrimp. The flavor is amazing! If you don't like shrimp, then order the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken or the short ribs. Personally, the sauce for BBQ chicken and short ribs are a bit too sweet after a while. I don't really recommend the Teri Beef, it's not really worth trying. Also, the plates come with a free cream pie and there's lots of flavors to choose from! I love the macadamia nut cream pie. Came for the bakery, enjoyed the meals. I only came upon this place after our Shark's cove adventure and when we arrived at 4:30, there was no line-up and only a couple of people were waiting for our food. Interestingly though, we still had to wait about 15 minutes to get our food. But either way, it's definitely worth it. I got the special mixed plate (hawaiian korean bbq, bbq chicken, and garlic shrimp), and it came with a choice of pie. They only had 3 selection (chocolate haiupia, peach, and macadamia). I'm not really a pie person, so I can't really rate thath, but I do see a ton of people walking out with just the pies...so it seems like a good indicator that it's bomb. Next time I do come back, I'll stick with bbq chicken and garlic shrimp. Everything was amazing, but those two are my fave (husband got chicken katsu, still good, but I prefer the bbq). If you order meals you can get a pie piece that comes with it. When we came they only had the chocolate haupia cream pies left. Those were good. Not overly sweet. Nice crisp on the crust and the right amount of cream on top. We ordered the garlic shrimp platter since we didn't get a chance to make it to a truck and also a 3 meats plate with kalbi, Hawaiian chicken and katsu. The portion was filling. We definitely wanted to make the stop because we heard how iconic this place was. I got the Loco Moco and the Strawberry Guava Pie. I think the Loco Moco was exactly what you would expect - rice, meat, egg, and gravy. The hamburger meat in particular was cooked really well - it was still very juicy and tender. Although it's a bit on the pricier side, they really give you enough to feed two people, maybe even three so it's a great deal. At first I was mehhh this place seems like a tourist trap, but even if it is it's still good. When arrived around lunchtime on a Saturday there was quite a long line, but it went pretty fast. Glad they post the menus blown up outside so you can make some decisions while waiting. Once you're inside they usually have a few registers open to take your order. I love variety so I ordered a regular Ted's bento, which comes with chicken katsu, Mahi Mahi, spam, and Teri beef. This was HUGE and very delicious. Keep in mind that the Mahi Mahi is egg battered, which I didn't expect. Friend got the Teri burger, which was okay (fries were delicious). Gotta save room for desert which is what Ted's is known for. I was recommended to try the chocolate huapia cream pie, which was so yummy! Would definitely come back just to grab some whole pies. read more

If you're just visiting Oahu and are unsure if you should check out the North shore I think Ted's Bakery may be worth the drive for them alone. We tried some kind of a pineapple macadamia cake thing and the chocolate huapia pie. The chocolate one was definitely my favorite but they were both so amazing. This really is all the way out to the other side of the island so maybe plan to do something else when you're on the North shore. Ted's is definitely worth the drive for me but you may not be as big of a foodie as I am. I am constantly being disappointed by desserts back home in California. The line can get long pending on the time of the day you end up going but they have parking and honestly, it's worth the wait in the line! If you want to go, they have slices inside the refrigerator and you can grab them while the other person stands in line. That's what my family and I did. What's not to like about Ted's! I've been coming here for years and the pies are consistent and taste wonderful. If you were in the area, it's always best to come here direct to pick up your pies. To me they taste better here than getting them from some of the local grocery stores. They also have different varieties that you can't always find like Lilikoi cheese, guava, cheesecake, and others. Service is good and the ambience is fun. There are plenty of tables outside to eat or you can take your food to go or your pie to go and eat it right across the street on the beach if you choose. Prices are reasonable, considering you are on the island of Oahu, they take cards and cash here which is great as some places used to only take cash. The shrimp is really good here as well as some of the other local foods. We arrived at Ted's soon after it opened around 10:30 in the morning. We were exploring the area very early and visiting some of the beaches and wanted to have a treat from Ted's. What we really appreciated the most, was the menu attached to the walls while you are waiting so there really is no reason to not be prepared as you wait in line. This only expedite the process for yourself and everybody waiting. While we didn't order any Food, we really came here for the pie. We got a slice of the chocolate haupia cream pie Which was outstanding. The filling was creamy and slightly sweet. There was fresh whipped cream on top and the crust was also super flavorful almost like a short bread crust but I can't be for certain. It really needs no explanation, just go get a slice. This is a solid breakfast choice. If you eat wheat-crusted pie for breakfast- which we did not try, but looked delicious- it probably deserves 5 stars. We had eggs, a mountain of rice, and a meat of choice (spam for me!). I believe they have bananas if you need fruit. It was ready quickly. The coffee was strong and good. Service was efficient and friendly. A line formed quickly, so get here early! We ate outside on picnic tables, where I was transfixed by the odd behavior of a man across the street; this left me unsettled, though he never approached us. We enjoyed Ted's much more than the food trucks east of here. I only wish they had decaf coffee and one gluten free baked good (mochi butter cake?). The pies are great however we went today at about 2p. We waited for about 45 minutes for our food. We finally got it after I had to check on the status. Only to find our order was wrong. We ordered all white rice for 3 plates. All of them had brown rice. And my order of 3 combo plate lunch choice was missing my Teri beef. They took it back and gave it back with the same brown rice but 4 scoop of rice on the side. She told me white rice was out but gave left brown and gave me the white on the side. I asked for 2 more scoops as one plate was all rice so 3 scoops should have been replaced and the last 2 plates 2 scoops each. I wasn't complaining too much bc they gave the brown rice with it still. However, if someone orders al white rice you don't just give brown bc thats all you had. And then 1 minute later can give me white rice on the side. It didn't make sense. You should have let the customer know first that you were out of white rice. Anyway, when we got the food and sat and ate the food was AWFUL. The chicken katsu was worse than L&L. The sauce they gave was a sweet sour and katsu sauce. I had to go back and ask for the sauce.my sons steak was rubber and dry. My garlic shrimp was just oil. The fries were bitter old oil. I would not have been so bothered if we didn't pay $98 for everything. I love to support local because I am local. The service was great but the food was awful. We won't be going back. Their chocolate coconut cream pie maybe as good as the reviews report, but I waited in line for 30 minutes to be told they were out of it (at 12p). It would have been nice to let customers know... At least put a freaking sign! I saw other customers leave without ordering and only later realized they were there for the same reason I was. This is a mistake (or lack of care), because they would make their own life easier (and make more money) if they left people know when they're out of that pie (so they don't have to attend customers who won't order anything else). The line would slim down and customers would be able to order without having to wait this long. No reason to ever go back. read more
