My thoughts: This is a traditional classic all America restaurant that is been around the Detroit MI area through out the up and down of the economy. And any restaurant can survive the harsh business world is A OK in my book. Plus they do serve good comfort food and maintain a reasonable price. The hospitality to an out of state American like myself is priceless. Will visit this spot every time I come back to Detroit. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking and back side with parking lot parking. 2) Decoration : (2 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean but not up to date. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive compare to other same stars and type food they serve 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is good,food taste is good and portions are good. 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of America food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare anywhere in USA. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. Ted's coney Island used to be our favorite Coney Island. Always went there after church on Sundays. When Mr. Ted was running the place, food was always good, hot and fast. Seems they've changed vendors or something because chili is not nearly as good as it used to be. We still go there, but not as often anymore. read more

Probably the cleanest Coney Island I've ever stepped into. It looks like it was remodeled recently so it looks really good. The staff were all so friendly and kind. It's a small place but the food was really good. I had the veggie skillet with a side of pancakes and my husband had the Philly steak skillet. I really enjoyed my pancakes too, the butter spread they use is so creamy and good so make sure you order a side of that. We were both very impressed with the quality of the food. If I could give this a zero star review, I would. READ THIS.. if you are a person of color (POC) , do not go there!! Walked in, no greetings, nothing. Went to sit down with my son and partner, and another family came in, I hate to say it but they were white and menus were brought to them. Drinks were served to them as well meanwhile we were just waiting on the blonde waitress to bring us our drinks... instead she went to run the cash register and take phones calls completely disregarding us. Received my coffee, and I politely asked for cream and sugar "when you get a chance". And she responded..."I only have two hands". It all went down hill from there. I really like Ted's but they are getting worse. I almost always order chicken stir fry. One time they forgot the chicken. Today I got no teriyaki sauce and my order seemed like a half order. The staff and Louie are great, they remember you and always have a great positive attitude. I try and take my pops here once a month as well, he loves this place. Found a hair in my food when I lifted up the butter off my pancakes. Told the waiter I no longer wanted to eat the food because there's a hair in it and all she said was "okay". Didn't even get an apology or offer to remake the meal. read more

Just came back from Ted's. Fabulous food, fabulous service! We had breakfast, delicious omelettes and American fries, with raisin toast. (Why don't all breakfast menus have raisin toast?) Next time in I'm getting a salad. There is are many different salads and they looked fantastic. Super cool decor, great parking in a town that has lots of parking but not usually convenient, wide variety menu, a true family diner. We have been going to Ted's for close to 15 years.... Typically, it's a great experience. A lot of that experience depends on the waitress'. Today and last weekend, I ordered a carry out. Both times I had issues with the waitress paying attention to me, listening to what I was ordering. Both times I have not received what I ordered. In fact, I ordered extra items that were not even on the receipt and that is lost revenue for Louie and the restaurant. I had to repeat myself a few times to even get the items I did receive. Today the waitress was so worried about a guy on the phone in the restaurant and giving him glaring looks of disapproval than to focus on my order. But you better believe she paid attention to the receipt and what I gave as a tip. I wrote the tip in before receiving my order and reviewing the itemized receipt, so I left a 40% tip. I didn't say anything because I feel like it would have fallen on deaf ears. But you better believe the next time I am there, I won't be tipping until my full experience is completed and I will be paying attention. Remember folks, TIPPING is not a requirement, it's a courtesy based on the waitress' level of service. Just because she showed up and bagged my order does not mean the customers are required to tip. I will go to the restaurant again because the food is great and I support Louie and his ownership. But there will be no more courtesy tipping if the customer service is lacking like it has been again. Do better servers, put some effort into your job. read more

The service here is great! I love the small town Coney Island feel! However in my last couple of experiences, the food has been inconsistent! My husbands eggs have been over cooked, our hash browns barely hit the griddle and were like mush even though we asked for them well done, or even the biscuits and gravy tasted old and microwaved. SCAMMER ALERT - Do not go. Going to Ted's reminded me of movies where vistors get royally screwed when passing thru small Southern towns. My advice - don't go. -=-=- Clientel all seemed to know each other - very small-townish and the diner style (the building and the food) is very much remeniscent of the 50's. The only tables that couples are ALLOWED to sit at were small and cramped (There are permanent signs on the larger tables prohibiting them from being used by parties of less than 3). The food was good - not exceptional. Service started as acceptable but degraded to non-existant. Server never came to check on the coffee - if you want more coffee at Teds, you'll need to speak up loudly and repetetively. When we finally did get some, I got the last 1/2 cup in the pot (which means that the not enough coffee is being made) and no one ever came (or even thought about coming) to finish the refill later on. Getting boxes for the leftovers was even more of a challenge. Eventually we had to simply go get them ourselves. Listed prices were about $6 per breakfast and $2 for coffee, so when it came time to pay, we expected to pay about $14, but the bill came to $19! Bill was not itemized so we asked for quick review, which was presented as rapidly as one could imagine. The numbers still didn't add up so we had to ask again. Everyhing sounded OK until the last item, which was a WHOLLY UNEXPECTED charged 3.00 ala carte price for English muffins! When the waitress asked about type of toast, we asked about english muffins - and were told "no problem". Since we never got toast, there was no reason to expect an a (hefty) la carte charge for them. Called Ted by phone afterwards to let him know, and he's oblivious to the problem of misrepresentation. His comment: "Hey - we have to make money too." As you can expect, we're not (ever) going back and we're not reccomending this place to anyone - particularly not to friends read more
