I went there a couple of days ago before the noon rush and was very disappointed. I ordered 3 fish and an order of onion rings. The fish was very skinny and the onion rings were over done and not edible. I bought fish for my 102 year old friend to surprise him. In the past when the fish is so skinny they put another on top to fill the bun, not this time. read more

Ted's Fish Fry's website states: "If you have a food allergy please notify us. Allergen information for menu items is available. Ask an employee for details." This is dangerously misleading. I have a wheat allergy, and when I followed these instructions, the staff dismissed me, told me I was "in the wrong place," and refused even a simple request to prepare fish without the fried coating. This is more than bad service -- it's a public safety hazard. The website encourages people with food allergies to eat here, but in reality, they cannot accommodate allergies at all. For anyone with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or food allergies of any kind, walking in here could be life-threatening. Until Ted's updates its website and trains its staff properly, this establishment is not safe for people with allergies. I will also be reporting this to the health department and consumer protection agencies, because misleading the public in this way puts lives at risk. Response to business: Ted's Fish Fry responded to my review by saying the allergy notice on their menu and website is "required by New York State law" and that they are not encouraging people with food allergies to eat there. I understand that this location cannot accommodate those with wheat or gluten allergies due to shared fryers and cross-contamination. However, New York Public Health Law § 1356 requires more than simply printing one line of text. The statute makes clear that food service establishments must provide a food allergy message that informs the customer about the allergy information for each prepared food item on the menu. If menus are provided in other languages, those translations must also be included. For online menus, the law requires either a method for customers to indicate their allergy or a food allergy message that informs the customer about the allergy information for each prepared food item. In addition, § 1356 requires employee-facing notices that explain how to respond when a customer discloses an allergy, how to minimize cross-contact, and how to act in the event of an allergic reaction. My experience at Ted's shows none of these protections in practice. When I disclosed my wheat allergy, I was told I was "in the wrong place," that no options were safe, and even denied a plain piece of fish without breading. This is not what the law envisions when it requires restaurants to post allergy information. The wording on Ted's website and menus gives the impression that meaningful allergen information is available when in reality no guidance or safe alternatives are offered. I do not fault Ted's for being unable to serve people with severe wheat or gluten allergies -- but I do fault them for hiding behind the bare minimum legal language while failing to carry out the law's intent, which is to give customers accurate information and staff clear direction. The combination of misleading public messaging and dismissive staff creates a dangerous situation for allergy sufferers. read more

Same experience as previous reviews, but reevaluating the overall dining experience. It's essentially a fast food, dining experience, which is OK but nothing above average. Limited menu selection. I still think it's a good place, but nothing special in the world of fish, fry restaurants. read more

Ted's Fish Fry needs to come to NJ asap! My boyfriend and I stopped in here on our way home from a weekend in Vermont after hearing about Ted's from a close friend and it did not disappoint! Ted's reminds me of a lot of places I used to stop with my family when I was little. Old school design and feel which some may say should be updated to todays decor but I like the nostalgia and I am a firm believer of if it ain't broke don't fix it. It's a joint for sure but a gem at the same time if that makes sense. Fried seafood = comfort food to me at least. We ended up ordering a Ted's lunch special which included ted's famous fish fry, French fries ( I subbed for onion rings), coleslaw and a medium drink. I got a clam strip dinner with sweet potato fries. We also ordered a hot dog which my boyfriend scarfed down before I could snap a picture for you guys. I really love that they serve my favorite hot dogs here ( Helmbolds ). The fish had a nice coating on the outside and honestly for me I wish it was a bit crunchier but my boyfriend liked it. The onion rings were amazing and I wish I had more rite now writing these. My clam strips could have been done a bit more in my opinion, I prefer a crunchier coating but they still hit the spot with that tartar sauce! The sweet potato fries I would swap out for onion rings next time because mark my words, I will be back! Over all this is really good fast food seafood establishment. It's a joint for sure but that's what I liked most about it. The staff are very nice and helpful with the menu. Prices are fair and the food is good. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick fried seafood fix! read more

A fine iteration of Ted's fish fry mini-chain. Cheery, courteous counter service; food served up quick and hot and accurate and ... yummy fish! Not horribly dreary dining room or excessively dirty plastic permanent seating. Ted's Fish Fry is kind of amazing in that people from all walks are eating together. The sign says fish and my appetite said yes. The parking lot was full so I had high expectations. As I stood in line, I saw a photo of something called 'The Buffalo Fish Fry', surely the oddest looking item on a hot dog roll that I've ever seen. It came with carrot sticks and 'bleu' cheese. Such a strange combination; I had to have one. I sat at a picnic table outside and gazed at a long, very skinny piece of breaded fish (that was obviously dieting before it gave its life for me) on a roll. Orange sauce topped the fish; on the side, a container of 'Ken's Bleu Cheese' dressing and some warm carrot pieces in a small, clear blue bag. I didn't know how I was supposed to eat this combo. It didn't really matter. My expectations were squashed instantly. This is bad carnival midway food; fried with the only detectable seasoning being salt. I could never figure out the orange sauce because it had no flavor. I added the container of blue cheese but it made the sandwich taste worse. I attempted to console myself with the carrot sticks but they were warm and flexible. I also ordered a strawberry shake and fish tacos. Mercy, these were bad, too. Is there a high point to my experience? Yes. The woman taking the orders is a savant at memorizing orders instantly before the cashier rings them up. I watched her manage multiple very complex orders in her head one customer after another as she managed her team. It was incredible to watch. Honestly, this was worth the visit. It must have been a bad day. I won't get the seafood combo again. The only thing good about it was the scallop and fish and bun. The fries tasted left over, the shrimp was overdone as were the crunchy clam strips, the cole slaw was nothing like it used to be and soaked in a water-like mayo. At least it was 3 out of 6 :). We have eaten here many times, today we had lunch there. The fish is very good, service is very quick and the place is very clean. The cole slaw has an overpowering taste of white pepper, its not good at all. Today we tried there fried scallops, they were like rubber balls. Not sure if they were overcooked. Ordered food for take out on the 21st of July. When we got home we noticed the rolls had mildew (green) on the bottom. Helen Keller could have noticed the mold. Tried calling on the 21st to let them know and no one answered. Called on the 22nd of July and no answer. Sent Ted's an email on the 22nd of July and have not received a response as of yet. We took pictures just in case. Will not be a customer in the future and have eaten Ted's since I was a teenager. read more

First may I say I have no idea what the hype is about. There is no seasoning on the fish, just plain fish in unseasoned batter. Honestly it was a waste of money. I wouldn't recommend the crab cake as well because the batter is uncooked and it's burnt on the side. It was the worst I've ever had and will not be returning there. read more

So this fish fry with pretty good wasn't the best I've ever had but I call it right down the middle that's why I gave it three stars. I will say that the fish has definitely gotten thinner than it used to be. Also, it is covid friendly and everything is pretty much one way you start at one end of the building you walk through order and the tables are sectioned off so you don't people sitting next to one another at the booths that are there. The onion rings we're good and I must say that they had a pretty good taste to them and they weren't overly greasy so they must have had good hot oil. Next time I go though I will definitely be trying out the clams. Some of the things that did not meet up to the par of my dining experience was that there was three of us meeting and they decided to give us one plate also they served the tartar sauce and the cocktail sauce and a large container as a shareable, instead of in three smaller containers as single serves. This to me doesn't make sense seeming that we're dealing with covid-19 and everyone is so preoccupied with being cautious that they turn the whole place into a one-way but yet here is a sauce that everyone of you can dip into in share to me it just didn't make sense. Maybe it's me I could be wrong. Overall though the experience was not that bad and I would recommend that if you would like a decent fish fry I would definitely try that out. Good food, slightly sketchy place but of course I'm one for an adventure. Line up, order, seat yourself and enjoy format :) Ordered a Fish with Chili sauce, onion rings and chocolate shake. Took a bit longer to be done then i would have expected for a 'fast food' place. Standing up waiting for my food a bit longer then i would have liked. Lunch for 2 altogether was under $18. Got the food, walked into the restaurant area. Right away i noticed it was old, not like old looking but the walls were worn, it had those old style orange-red booths. To top it off it was kinda dirty, the booth was a bit dirty and their was pieces of food under it. To the food! The fish was very tender, perfectly cooked. The chili sauce worked very well with it also. I have 3 gripes about it. The hotdog bun it was on was slightly stale, right on the fence. Also, the fish by itself had little flavor. I mean yea, that is why it has the chili sauce on it but could have been better. Last, the batter was falling off the onion rings a bit and the same 'lack of flavor' issue. The fish fry is basically a VERY long fried fish 1/2 filet on a small hot dog bun. Get it with the tartar sauce! We ordered the "house special chili" thinking it would be a special chili--u know the kind on chili cheese fries and dogs and such...but it kind of just tasted like sweet ketchup The buffalo wings were okay..nothing too special there but they WERE spicy if you like that. Ted's is a great place to eat in the Capital Region. First off, the fish fries are easily the best fish fries I've ever had. They are crispy and light. They are seasoned perfectly and the fish is always fresh and juicy. The French fries are very good. They are crispy and flavorful. The burgers are delicious as well. The burgers are tasty and the fried onions bring everything together. The fried clams, clams casino, and clam chowder are delicious too. Everything here is great and the price is good. The food always comes out fast. Overall, Ted's has delicious fish fries and is a great place to eat. read more

Grew up eating at Ted's since they opened. After a long absence living away from the area, I went back--it hadn't changed! EVERYTHING is hand done with great care. The fish is hand breaded haddock (as far as I know that hasn't changed), the onion rings and coleslaw are also handmade and totally fabulous. A lot of prissy newbies to the area don't like the red sauce, but I ADORE it! I make it myself. It's just ketchup with sweet pickle relish and a hint of lemon juice. I guess it's not for everyone, but having grown up eating it, I REFUSE to use tartar sauce unless I have no other choice. And they still sell their lovely coffee flavor milkshakes. Ted's is located very close to my house! I've gone here since I was a child and the food quality as NEVER failed to displease me. Ted's has a ton of food options for decent prices that you should try! My favorite is the fish fry itself. At this Brunswick location, the quality of the service has relatively declined. New workers are not as polite and mess up orders sometimes. Overall, I give it 4 stars for cleanliness and food quality. Lost the last star for service. UPDATE: Teds has redone their bathroom! Ted's Fish Fry is a small fast food chain, that I have only seen then in upstate NY. But there are three or four near to Troy,NY. I tried the cheeseburger and fries. Expensive for what you get. The fries tasted strongly of old fish, many were soggy with oil, some were stone cold and others were hot. The fried fish itself though was good. Bathrooms were clean contrary to other reviews of this place, must have updated recently. I can see the alure, obviously a local hotspot, the people around there grew up on it and love it to death.
