We arrived at 2pm and there was no hostess, so we sat ourselves outside on the beautifully decorated patio. I had never been to Waterford, and my sister had been to this restaurant before and had fond memories. We were chastised a bit by the waitress, apparently we sat at a table that wasn't convenient, although there were only two tables occupied. I ordered the salad with grilled chicken and apples, with the poppyseed dressing, and my sister ordered the Big Salad. Wow, that salads could not have been prettier! The chef took such pride in the presentation and flavor of the food!! I would have given this place a five star review if the waitress had shown us more hospitality. McGreivey's has consistently provided delicious catering for large events that I have hosted/attended as well as served great food in house. For events, we consistently opt for the steak hibachi noodles and the jambalaya as well as trying new options. We recently tried the lasagna and that was amazing as well. Most recently, we ordered 7 trays of food for roughly 70 people and the entire process was smooth. First time we went, we were very impressed with the fish and chips, so we drove 25 minutes out of our way to have another enjoyable experience. This time the meal was mediocre at best. The fish had little to no taste and the fries had obviously been sitting around for awhile. We sent back the macaroni salad because it had spoiled. Nana's special homemade carrot cake was totally dry inside with a crusted outside shell of frosting. When we pointed it out, we were told it was made in the beginning of the week. Stopped into McGreivey's today for a quick lunch while passing through Waterford. I sat in the bar area and the bartender was super friendly and provided great service. I ordered French onion soup, French fries and an IPA. As soon as my spoon broke through the glorious layer of cheese in the soup, I could smell how good it was going to be. The broth had deep and complex flavors, the cheese was thick and flavorful, it was a little heavy on the crouton for my preference but it was a great crock of soup. And a good size bowl too! Paired with the perfect ultra crispy house cut fries, it was the perfect easy lunch. Great little bar to stop in for a quick lunch. McGrievey's is a cozy little restaurant with a nice vibe. We met some friends here for lunch and had a nice time. We started with the Bruschetta which was hands down some of the best I've ever had. The bread accompanying the bruschetta is AMAZING (bummer they charge you for extra bread, but I get it). I had the French Dip which appeared to have ground beef instead of sliced Prime Rib or maybe they minced it up really fine, I couldn't tell. Portions were huge and the Au Jus was awesome. The entire staff at McGreivey's did a fabulous job with our luncheon after my husband's funeral. The food was delicious, and everyone was very pleased. The banquet room was very nice. I was looking for a new place to try close to my house. The menu looked pretty good and had some good reviews. They have a dinner menu and a pub menu that is a little bit cheaper. I didn't get to see the dining room but the bar area was nicely decorated and they also have a nice big patio outside to eat on. The menu is quite large but I was just looking for something simple. The chicken nachos were enormous and covered with toppings. By the time our burgers came out I was pretty much full. New Years Eve I ordered a lobster tail, tenderloin & a salad. The tenderloin was so overcooked, I couldn't cut or eat it. The lobster tail was also so overcooked, it was like rubber & had to use a knife to cut it. We had to ask for steak knives. I say we bcuz my daughter was with me & she ordered steak as well, but different. By the time we got our knives & two tabs of butter for my lobster instead of hot melted butter,I couldn't eat mine. The owner said the only thing he could do was take our sodas & appetizers off the bill. Keep in mine I " was" a frequent customer. Eight of us eat there Saturday night 7/03/21 and all eight of us were very disappointed. the seafood dishes were all overcooked and dried out. The eggplant dishes were terrible . Most (6 out of 8) did not finish their dinners. There WORST of it was one of the guest got VERY SICK shortly after we left there and vomited I left there very disgusted because I had built this restaurant up to our out of town guest and certainly were very disappointed as I stated in the beginning. Getting here, my boyfriend and I thought things looked good and we're excited by the menu. We sat outside. I need to make sure this is noted... the waitress, Christie, was a sweetheart from beginning to end! She was by no means the issue. We ordered our food. Started with mozzarella sticks. They were good. My boyfriend ordered the Jack Daniels steak, I got the crispy chicken. Here's when things stated to go south. The chicken sandwich tasted great ( know it's dark meat though) the fries were bomb. The steak was ordered at medium rare...it came out much more on the well side. Immediately I could tell it wasn't cooked properly when he took a bite. I told him to tel the waitress but to at least eat the potatoes while we waited to get her attention. Waitress came out, apologized and took the steak into the kitchen, from where I was sitting I could see our waitress arguing with the chef. They refused to remove the steak from our bill and we're going to charge for an additional meal if he wanted something else. The chef came out and argued that it was cooked right. Chef left, came back out and offered a free dessert or a free drink, while still having to pay for the steak. Mind you they didn't give him even the sides so he had one bite of steak and one bite of potatoes and was going to be expected to pay $22. The bill came out with the steak still on it. When the waitress came back, we asked to speak to a manger because we were extremely unhappy with how the chef spoke to us and we weren't paying for something we didn't eat. She went to go find the owner, not even 2 minutes passed by and she came back saying the owner couldn't be found but the steak was taken off.... So magically after all this arguing and time wasted the steak was removed from the bill. Long story short. The hostess was nice, the waitress was a sweetheart, but the chef needs to be knocked down a few notches and learn how to talk to customers or have someone else handle it properly. read more

I'm not sure what the deal is with the crappy reviews for this place, but we just went here for dinner this past weekend, and it was amazing. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was excellent. I got an eggplant sandwich customized to suit my dietary needs, and my boyfriend got the chicken pot pie. We both loved our dishes. The dessert menu looks delicious but we didn't have time to stay longer and try them out. We will do that next time we come here, and there will be a next time very soon! We sat outside and it was very nice! Clean, friendly, not too loud and also they have a rule that states unruly children will not be tolerated, which is much appreciated. I can't thank McGreivey's enough for making my sister's bridal shower a success! She held her engagement party here as well and while I wanted to try to have the shower someplace different, McGreivey's was the easiest to work with, the most flexible, and had exactly what we were looking for. Not having to put deposit $$ down was definitely great as well! They were super accommodating when I asked to push the start time to noon since we had the bachelorette the day before. We did the Sunday brunch menu with the bloody Mary and mimosa bar. The 2 entrees I selected were the chicken Madeira and the eggplant rollitinis. Those dishes, as well as everything else presented, were absolutely delicious! The scalloped potatoes were TO DIE FOR!!! I wanted to just eat an entire plate of those! The servers were great in that they kinda just let us do our own thing (which we wanted). They were around when we needed them for the most part, a few times we had to go grab them but nothing major. They even brought us some more tables to use since we had a few of our own decoration spreads and such. Only slightly irritating but funny nonetheless thing is that there was another bridal shower in the back room (we were in the middle room). We soon found out her name was Amy because we had to keep directing people when they walked in our room by asking if they were here for Amy's shower or Jen's shower, lol. I wish there were signs or someone else directing them to whichever party they were attending, but it wasn't that big of a deal and we thought it was hilarious. Icing on the cake? All along they told me a minimum of 25 people and I was fully prepared to pay for that, even though we only had 20 people. I confirmed with them several times the headcount and I'd pay the minimum. When we got the bill, they only charged us for the 20 people, not the minimum of 25. I couldn't believe it when I saw it, was so thankful for their nice gesture. I was going to give them 4 stars but those few little extra things they did to go above and beyond what we expected fully pushed them into the 5 star category. There isn't many options in Waterford restaurant wise, if you are looking for a sit down meal. With that being said McGreiveys offers a casual/formal dinning. We came on a Sunday night for a quick bite to eat. Their patio looks and probably is sweet this time of year but we opted to sit inside in their dinning room. We both end up ordering something from their pub menu. I ordered their french dip with a house salad and my wife ordered just a plain cheeseburger with fries. We both agreed if the food was good we would come back and try their dinner menu. My salad came out and I order extra dressing because from my experience restaurants never dress their salad enough for my liking. Well not here I made the mistake of putting some of the extra dressing on it and my first bite was a shock for my taste buds. Don't order extra dressing here because they put on enough as is. Needless to say my salad was inedible so I alerted the waiter and he offer me something different so I choose the oven roasted red potatoes. Our meals came out and they were good. My wife didn't say too much about the burger so I assumed she liked it. My french dip was one of the better french dips I have had in a long time. The bread was toasted correctly and the beef was nice and tender. Top it off with some melted provolone cheese..delish. The Au jus was perfect, not too salty like others I have had else where. I will say this I wasn't a fan of the cooked down onions in the au jus though. The oven roasted potatoes were so much better than the drenched salad I had original ordered. Dined here for the first time this past Friday evening, and had a nice time. I'm not sure why we haven't visited sooner, as we don't live too far away, but I'm glad we finally gave them a try. We went in around 8pm, and the restaurant was pretty empty - I'm thinking the fact that St. Patty's day was the following day and this is an Irish bar may have had something to do with it? Anyway, the service was prompt and efficient, although at times awkward. The ambiance and decor was casual and cozy. We ordered nachos to start, which were plentiful and delicious. The toppings were tasty, and the cheese was perfectly melted, and NOT the gross cheese wiz type that some restaurants tend to put on nachos. The menu was fairly extensive, so it was hard for me to determine what to order for dinner. I ended up with the Shepherds pie, which was flavorful and filling, I ended up taking most of it home. My husband seemed to enjoy his fish and chips as well. I'm definitely interested in returning soon and sampling some of their other menu offerings. I noticed they have a large patio area for the warmer months, so I would love to return either before or after a nice outing at Peebles Island, which is a stones throw away. read more
