Ted's Hot Dogs is a WNY institution, like Mighty Taco. The last time I grabbed a hot dog from Ted's was close to 20 years ago so I can't make a fair comparison, but all in all, it was good! A few friends and I arrived around 1:00pm on a Saturday for a later lunch and easily found a parking spot close to the main entrance. Walking in, the dining room is pretty big - definitely no shortage of tables or booths. We opted to sit at one of the tables outside - the outdoor seating is covered, which is nice. I was surprised to see no employees taking orders, but instead there were three or four tablets to place our orders. The ordering process is easy enough though and once you pay, you grab a pager that's tied to your order and wait. At this point, you can walk up and watch them grill and make your meal, which I actually remember (when you'd also order in that line too). The staff here seemed unhappy, if I'm being honest, and the interactions with them were practically non-existent. For lunch, I grabbed a hot dog with sweet relish and Ted's hot sauce along with a bag of sea salt chips and a bottle of water. What's there to say, it was a good Sahlen's hot dog, the combo of sweet relish and Ted's hot sauce was great, and the side of chips were good. I didn't want to be stuffed and this lunch did a great job satisfying any hunger before an early dinner. The price for all of this seemed a little high, in my opinion, but it was tasty and I left full so it is what it is! This was a good reminder that a hot dog from Ted's is pretty good! It was depressing to see how unhappy the staff seemed and that there's no more interacting but that seems to be the trend, the way fast food spots are going. But even with that, I wouldn't have a problem grabbing a hot dog from Ted's. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch. Every region has their hot dog. (Chicago-Vienna, Buffalo-Sahlens). You order at the counter where a grill person is preparing your order in front of you. The grill was interesting-I figured it was simply gas or electric until I saw a person loading it with charcoal. Ted's has a typical fast food menu-we only had the hot dogs. Me a foot long and my wife , a regular. Fries are decent but at their price point, hand cut would be a huge improvement. Onion rings looked real good but at over $6.00, I opted out as the order looked huge and I'd likely eat less than half. Would be nice if they had a "basket" which included a lesser amount of fries or onion rings with your sandwich. Hot dogs were great. I like mine extra charred and that's the way it came out. There are many Ted's throughout Buffalo and the suburbs. With a great menu and food to back it up, I can see why they're successful. read more

Perfectly cooked hot dogs with fresh toppings. I just had a delicious lunch here today. I placed a takeout order online and it was ready when I got there. The staff were super friendly and quickly got me my food. My order was 100% accurate. I loved the footlong hot dog with Ted's Hot Sauce, chopped onions, spicy mustard, and pickle chips. The hot dogs was the perfect size for lunch and it paired perfectly with my 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings order. The onion rings were delicious and the fries were very good. Ted's is a Buffalo staple. It's the best place to go in the winter when you can't grill your own hot dog and the best place in the summer when you don't want to do the work. There is no other place that is gonna grill up a good quality footlong like Ted's. I can always count on them for fast, quick, service and even though some people think it's not the fanciest food, a great tasting meal. The line always moves fast here and the staff is always super friendly. It makes me feel like I'm back in a small town diner whenever I get my food and sit down. When I grabbed my tray to go from the counter to the table, my milkshake slid right off my tray and dropped to the floor! The staff was super sweet & remade my shake. I'll definitely be back! We went in at lunch time and there were six people in the whole place. The girl on the register with halloween with hair was nasty and didn't really want to be bothered. She had ZERO customer sense and shouild have been working somewhere with no human contact. There were two guys working there that were doing all of the work and were very nice. Ted's is a WNY staple. As much as they are known for their hotdogs, their burgers, milkshakes and French fries are all great. Some how the sahlens hotdog you get here tastes different than the same hot dog you could make at home. I think it's the grilling process. It's gotta be the charcoal. Normally I don't have an issue with this place I normally love it. But tonight me and my boyfriend went at 8:30. Yes I know it's a half hour before close and I get it but it's not like we walked in 5 minutes before close and they guy that was taking our order pretty much was telling us we can only get something off the grill. Destroying traditions and fun is what liberals like to do, it's their mantra. I went to Ted's on Union to get my first charcoal hot of the season. I was greeted by a bunch of computer menu screens. Was told I needed to place my order on the screen....ok, I went along, but as expected, the prompts on the screen weren't working properly....a nice young man stepped up and had me place the order with him using a hand held..... my problem is, half the "Ted's experience" is watching them actually cook your hot dogs, burgers, then watch them place the extras on your items at your request......the interactions are gone, the experience is forever tainted, and I will NEVER go back ..... bye bye Ted's forever!! read more

Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday around 11am. I haven't been to Ted's in at least a year, and not while COVID was taking place, so it was weird coming in here and seeing the caution tape not allowing people to sit down, and the queue line not being accessible. Where you order, there is a shield between you and the employee. You give your order, including the condiments and can't watch your food being cooked anymore. You pick up your food at a window to the right side of the cash register. I ordered a foot long and small fry. It was delicious. I really enjoy putting malt vinegar all over my Ted's fries. The best thing on their menu are the fries. They are crisp, tasty and plentiful. The onion rings are greasy, with no breading to speak of. We stopped here for dinner at 6pm. The place wasn't busy at all. There were a few patrons in front of us in line. We literally in line for a minute when the cook started screaming at a guy to pull your mask up.. the guy was six feet away from the next person and his mask was just below his nose. Guidelines are six feet or mask. Sorry I know it's covid season now but the staff member wasn't even near this gentleman and there is no way that staff knew the person had a condition that would preclude him for wearing one. There was zero reason to scream. The service was sooo slow. I am not sure why it was slow during a dining service time on a Saturday night but it was like molasses. I believe they were training a staff member but I think the manager probably should have stepped in to help and speed it along. As today was National Hot Dog Day, they were offering all regular, skinless (sounds creepy, but it's the kid version apparently), and veggie dogs for 99 cents. If you like hot dogs, you can never go wrong at Ted's.Because of covid, there is a worker taking the orders before the customer gets to the counter. My order was transferred from her tablet to a screen over the grill. In the pre-covid days, one placed the order leaning slightly over the counter between the customer and the grill and then ordered a beverage at the checkout . Now it is placed all at one time. Efficient and covid-safer. The hot dogs are always well cooked, with a nice "charcoaled" finish. There are many toppings: ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, diced onions, pickles, cooked onions and peppers, relish, slices red onion, hot sauce and a few more with an additional charge. Well I love to support local businesses but went to Ted's on union too night 3 of us they have his new order kiosk to use well let me tell it's not very user friendly you can only order one item at a time like you can't order 2 hot dogs per person unless I didn't see a magic button someplace on the screen to do that but anyways once order was placed you get a buzzer for when the food is ready well it took about 10-15 minutes to get our order 4 dogs and 3 fries mind you as we were seating waiting for our order 2 girls went to the counter and placed there order and got there's before us hun that makes no sense so any ways do not like the new kiosk and won't use it again I suppose it's to speed things up but in my case it didn't plus maybe the 3staff back there did less talking and concentrated on the orders before them things might get done a little bit faster mind you there was only like maybe six other guest already in the dining room eating plus holly cow 50.00 bucks for 4 dogs and fries and pop for 3 people won't be going to Ted's any time soon. read more

We were on our way to BUF after Niagara Falls and when I googled what's a must eat in Buffalo, NY two things came up. One was Buffalo Wings (see my other review on Anchor Bar) and the other was Ted's Hot Dogs. Well, while we were happy with the first stop, we weren't so much with this one. I mean there's nothing really wrong with the place, but I guess you have to have grown up with this all your life and have some kind of nostalgic memories about the place in order to love it? We ordered 3 regular dogs, one with bacon, onions, and hot sauce, 2nd with bacon, cheese, and hot sauce, 3rd with sauerkraut only. I liked the fact that they grill the meat right in front of you while you're in line. I saw that people were ordering loganberry, and read the review that you must order it. So we did. We also ordered some onion rings and fries. Hot dogs were just ok. I've had much better and the quality of the sausage is nothing special. Hot sauce lacked flavor and heat for me. Onion rings and fries were good but nothing to write home about. Loganberry drink is just a glorified version of a Kool-Aid which tasted like cough syrup! WHY is this a must try?? I'm sorry Buffalo, I don't understand why Ted's is so popular. I would recommend if you're not a native buffalonian then Ted's might not do it for you. I found the burger to be pricey for the size and I didn't think it was very special taste-wise. The same was true for the hot dog. It was a very bologna-esque hot dog, very little to no flavor. The onion rings were my favorite part, they were a bit different than other places, very delicate with good flavor. Lastly, the shake was you guessed it, also just not special. It tasted like it was made with syrup and was relatively thin, it just didn't have that thick creamy special taste some places have. read more

93 cent hot dogs at Ted's! This time we went to the one on Union Road. I can tell you, a very bad choice! They have no clue how to organize this. The line was barely moving, we were there for an hour. At least twice all people working were just studying the order screen for minutes! We did their costumer appreciation days before, at the Ted's on Niagara Falls Boulevard or Sheridan. Very efficient there and the line really moves. Ah, Ted's. Another Buffalo classic I've forgotten to review! Recently stopped into this location and was impressed with the interior. They obviously recently renovated, and it looks beautiful! Super clean, tons of seating. Definitely will never have to fight for a seat at this location. The line wasn't terrible when I came in, but I do know you can end up waiting a pretty good chunk of time for your food. The workers are really sweet, though, and do their best to make your experience a good one. Can get a wee bit pricey for the type of food they're selling, but it's definitely worth it. Their hot dogs, of course, are phenomenal, but I'm really a huge fan of their fries. If they were healthy for you, I'd eat their fries every single day if I could. They're perfectly crispy! I've never tried anything else from their menu besides their hot dogs and fries, because they knock it out of the park every time. Got to love me some charcoal cooked burgers and dogs. The flavor it adds with the slight charcoal smoke is an amazing and satisfying touch. The burgers are my go to with a crisp outside and jucy inside. The dogs have their right snap and go good with chili and cheese. The onion "rings" are more strings but are drenched and breaded for each order so not frozen. The crew is often young but are efficient and often having fun whole working. They make hot dogs, burgers, and other grilled foods here paired with fries, homemade onion rings, and other similar foods available. Make sure to grab a loganberry fountain drink to complete the experience. Their homemade hot sauce is seriously fantastic, and it's my favorite thing about this place. Prices are good and you can get a good amount of food for around or under ten dollars. This particular location is quite large with ample seating and outdoor seating for the nicer weather. It does take a little bit of time when it's busy to get your order placed and received but it's worth it since they're actually cooking your dog fresh for you. read more

When Keanu Reeves said, during the Excellent Adventure, that "I am the Duke Of Ted", little did he know that 20 years later, we would all be battling it out to see who could be the "Duke Of Ted's" on Yelp. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but what I am not exaggerating about, is that Ted's has some of the best hot dogs in Buffalo. Regular, Footlong, or my beloved Polish, you can't go wrong. If you've never tried their Polish, please do. If you just get one dog, it's affordable, but if you get drinks, fries, and multiple dogs, you may be shocked at how much it costs. This clean and friendly location often has long lines, but the food is good, so hey. Also I recommend giving the chocolate milkshake an honest try. It's surprisingly one of the better ones in town, especially with malt. And the Loganberry, while too sweet, is made with real sugar, and if you dilute it a little bit, it's Loganberry heaven. It's a local specialty. Speaking of local, did you know there is a Ted's outside WNY? It's in Tempe, a suburb of Phoeniz, Arizona. I think it's there to serve dogs to all the ex-pats. I don't mean Drew Bledsoe and Rodney Harrison, I mean people who move from B-lo to AZ, like, I guess, the original owners did.
