Tejas Rodeo is a must see. The rodeo itself, as well as the crowd, was a perfect mix between authentic and hyped up for tourists. The fact that the grounds are about 30 minutes from San Antonio and back in the middle of nowhere preserve the authenticity.There didn't appear to be to many out-of-towners. Just remember to bring cash for parking! The rodeo consisted of bull riding, barrel racing, sheep riding for little kids (mildly terrifying to watch but entertaining and well monitored), and everything else rodeos typically offer. Our show lasted about 2 hours. Just outside of the ring, behind the bleachers, there are little stations offering drinks, souvenirs, BBQ, mechanical bull riding, live music, and a huge covered area for dancing. The band we saw was great and we witnessed some fantastic two-stepping. Tejas Rodeo was the perfect place to go on a beautiful night. I also noticed that they have sides for the stage/dancing area in case of rain. It's worth visiting, rain or shine. read more

It was such an unfair situation. First it was $30 at the gate to get in for the show for 2 people. Then we went to the sub par restaurant. They handed us the menu like it was 6 pages long when everything on the menu could fit on a napkin. The food was okay luke a burger joint. Then we went to get seats for the 730pm rodeo show it was all taken. Everytime we saw a seat it was reserved. The whole damn seating areas were reserved, i guess if you pay more than $30 they will reserve all the bleachers for you. Then a church group who had it reserved wouldn't let anyone sit in their section bcz you didn't belong to that group. Then they prayed before the rodeo saying" hopefully many of you will be converted tonight" WTF is that all about wrong venue buddy. Then they asked as apart of the show to have all kids below the age of 12 come to the arena and they will set a young calf loose so that you can pull a pink ribbon off it's tail okay what a stupid idea. A kid almost got hit in the face by an innocent baby calf. These folks had unsupervised 2 year old enter into a mud pit who does that! Never going back the announcer was like this is the best rodeo ever folks just give me your money and so what if we don't have enough seats big deal just shut up. read more

Wish I could give ZERO stars. My wife and I brought a couple here one Friday evening. Worst experiance at a resteraunt ever. They started off good by sitting us. We then waited 30 minutes. During this time I asked for service twice. Finally someone came for our drink order. They claimed we were not his table. So what? Excuses are like...Anyway after 10 minutes of waiting for 4 beers to come from the bar less than 20 feet away we left. Oh, when I went to go ask for service folks were on their iPhones playing games or texting. So after 40 minutes of wasted time and the travel time (this place is a drive) we left, picked up pizza and beer and went home to have on my deck around a cool fire. read more

What a fun time for a New Englander and locals too! Don't know what Mutton Busting is? You need to see this. Small kids riding sheep! What a riot; laughed so hard we cried! One kid rode so long the sheep gave up... The food in the restaurant was good. They screwed up our order slightly and ended up sending out more tips for the mistake with out asking. I ate these tips for two days after there was so many tender morsels. Food from the vending house also looked good coming out, but we did not try any. Beer & drinks were reasonable. They had a live band that was fantastic afterwards. Very kid friendly place and at least 300 people stayed very late with no drunks falling over or unruly behavior of any kind. Seemed like a very friendly place to dance, ride a mechanical bull, and enjoy your night afterwards. This outdoor event in RI would have had 15 - 20 bouncers plus many cops at least. We saw only one sheriff there which seemed to be there to enjoy his night rather than crowd issues. So much fun for a small cost. We will go again if ever near Bulverde, TX again. read more

An awful Mothers Day experience. 30 minutes to get anything to drink, an hour and a half to get food. Food orders were wrong, food was mediocre at best. Have been here quite a few times for dinner and the Rodeo and it was good, but this was terrible. No coffee at brunch? Slow - slow service and mediocre food. Wait an hour and a half for a house salad with grilled chicken = no chicken and some lettuce with one small tomorrow and one slice of onion. Awful. Just wish I could give it zero stars. read more

We had eaten here a week ago, and we had a very bad experience!! Upon writing a review, the manager "Tom" contacted me. Per his request, he wanted us to try the steakhouse again. We ate there tonight. Let me tell you how much better it was!!! The food was perfect!! We had such a bad waiter the first time, this time we had "Casey". She was point on!! Never let our glasses go empty and was always there to please. There was more than enough food for us and we even had left overs. We had a desert call Mixed berry cobbler, I think. It was perfect!! If you haven't been to the new Tejas Steakhouse and Saloon, you've been missing out. Not only is it great food, but also a great atmosphere. I could recommend a few favorite dishes, but there is a few I like....Of course the KC Style Tenderloin is always a winner, but I had the chicken fried chicken the other night which I will surely order again. This place is awesome it has old cowboy stuff on all the walls. I loved just looking at it. Lot's of history. The staff was very friendly and checked on us often. The food was severed quick and hot. The K.C. steak is the best I have ever eaten, I'm not a real steak person but I love this steak. And the banana pudding is like my grandma's. al so had the sweet potatoe fry's as one of my sides. We went on a Thursday and had no trouble getting a table. There is also a Roedo on Sat. nites. We will go again on a Sat. and take in the rodeo. read more

Wow! A local rodeo feel, great for the family. Kids loved the rodeo, though it was a bit warm on the eve we went. We didn't eat here, as we just want to show for the festivities. The outside seating is come as you go, but the service outside was horrible! Brought my parents from Iowa here for a good steak, but almost left after not even being waited on for 15 minutes. My first time here definitely was what i was expecting, an unpleasant meal, poor wait staff training and no leadership at all. Although the concept was quite entertaining and the mechanical bull riding was fun to watch I would never recommend eating at the steak house and saloon. we had made a 4:30 reservation and 15 mins prior to arriving we called and let them know we were going to be about 10 mins late and were confirming our inside table reservation. upon arrival we were not told where to go so once we finally made our way to the steak house we were told that a party was inside and therefore we had no reservation and that we could be seated outside. Amongst the three hostess, not one of them was really able to give a solid answer as to why we no longer had our inside reservation and not even the manager could help us out, so after waiting 30 min to be seated outside our waitress finally came to our table asking us what we would like to drink or if we wanted any appetizers but... (its kinda hard to order if we don't have menus right?) For apps we ordered the Pan de Tejas which was room temp or even cold you could say which i'm not sure if that was how its supposed to be served, either way wasnt very good and the Quail on the line which when bitten into i noticed that the quail was under cooked and the bacon wasn't even really crispy. For an entree we shared the KC style steak (which i'm not even sure what that is either.) This entree was very cold and very unseasoned, pretty much all the food received was without any salt including the sides of sweet potato fries and mac and cheese i felt like even the wedge salad needed salt because my ranch was so diluted with water that it had no taste. I at one point wanted to hand my salt shaker to the manager to give to the kitchen because they obviously needed it more than me. Our waiter Bethany although very nice was not very attentive and didn't seem to really know anything about the menu or even what type of liquor was used in the margarita we ordered even though they displayed not even 10 different kinds. We had to constantly ask for refills of water or tea so we pretty much went without any drinks. Honestly this place doesn't seem to have their shit together because of all the reviews that i've already read, it seems like there is a pattern and for Trey M to comment on some of the bad reviews trying to reassure people he's doing his job we can see that he obviously cares about his business but not enough to make any visible changes because from what i've read on the reviews this problem with poor quality service and food has been an ongoing problem for about 2 years. 7/23/2012 Joseph, we have taken steps in the past few weeks to beef up service to ensure our guests are served promptly and efficiently. Zero stars. I should've read the reviews. The rodeo wasn't running in December so this is totally based on the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money especially if there's no Rodeo. This place is in another dimension...literally. The pace is unacceptably slow. Some of the worst service you could experience. Y'all could learn volumes from Chama Gaucha on 1604. Our waiter, Travis?, was probably new (hopefully) but should pursue another career path. He had one table beside ours and couldn't handle it. Service took forever. Drinks took forever. Biscuits showed up 20 minutes after we sat, maybe longer. Food took forever. Everyone's drink went dry for some time with no waiter to be found. Only saving grace was the appetizers (quail & fried pickles), but they were super slow also. My sons hamburger was downright embarrassing. House burger at a steakhouse? I think not. Looked like a burnt patty out of a box. A 6 year old found it unappetizing. Mind you, this was not from the kids menu (we never got a kids menu). It was small enough to be a kids burger, though. It was the House Burger with bacon, etc. My son asked if that was American cheese (shame on a steakhouse using this processed crap) so I took it off. He then said it was burnt. Sure enough the bottom bun was completely black. It was also dry; no dressing, mustard, butter ... nothing. Got a new bun and mayo. How frustrating! If I wanted to go through all of that I'd just make a 1,000 times better burger at home. We got our family meal with no plates or steak knives. Had to ask the waiter for plates. His reply was, how many? I really didn't know what to say. Was he serious?!?!?! It wasn't until his second or third trip that he brought our plates but still no steak knives. He finally brought one steak knife and copped an attitude when asked for another. Then he returned with a fistful. He never came back to our table again. Didn't get the salad that was supposed to feed 5 with the family meal. A female manager took the burger and Family meal off our bill. Taking the food we didn't get or eat off our bill is the very least any restaurant could do. Even the correction on our bill took so long we got up to leave. Epic fail. I see where Tom has responded to negative reviews but I can't understand why? Nothing changes. Our experience in Dec 2017 mirrors negative reviews for years. You don't get brownie points for responding on Yelp. Overcoming a bad food and service experience takes more than comping meals and responding on Yelp. Y'all apparently don't comprehend that. Please don't make the same excuses you've used since at least 2013 that it was an off night, really busy, or you're 100% gonna address the server. Does that really work for you? Has anyone ever returned because of that? Don't ask us back. There's nothing you could possibly do to get us to return. By the way, our dinner guests have known Trey since middle school so you never know who you're treating badly. The restaurant business is hard. It's only for people who are good at it and love doing it. Y'all don't have the passion for the restaurant business. We clearly did not experience the hospitality of restaurant professionals. I took my son-in-law, daughter and 3 yr old toddler there Saturday night. We had a reservation for 5 PM. We were finally seated after sitting by the door and being tripped over and stepped on and folks coming in and out. Finally after 30 minutes or so we were taken to a table where we would have been in the traffic. We asked for a table we saw empty closer to the bar and were informed it was a VIP table, but no one ever showed up while we were there. The service was awful. We had to get up and get our own utensils. My son-in-law ordered the Angus steak, and it was about 1/4" thick and of course, overcooked. I ordered The beginner steak (don't remember rest) and it was nice and thick and a little overcooked, but tasty. My daughter had the fish specialty which she said was ok. Baby had plenty to eat. Biscuits were served with a sweet butter but were filled with pepper (????) Not a good combination. After paying the bill it took at least 15 minutes to get my card back . I wouldn't go back again. Prices are high, and there are much better places with steaks that cost the same with much better ambiance and service. And we were celebrating a birthday, and no mention was ever made by our waitress about that or any free dessert which is usually the case. read more

The rodeos are a great experience. You can get as close to the action as you want. The food at the new steakhouse is the best in the area. Beats the other steakhouses completely. The cowboy bone in ribeye seems a little pricey when you see it on the menu but when you have it in front of you on the plate you will see that you will take alot of it home for a second meal. Tejas Rodeo, the Performances, the Contestants, the Officials, and the Staff are a cut above a Small Hometown Rodeo put on for 1 Weekend per year. These people are Professionals! I have been to several performances, and I have talked to alot of People and I have never heard anyone say that there was any problem with the Animals being mistreated, the Contestants being serously injured, or any fights or trouble between the Patrons. If anyone likes Rodeo, live Rodeo every week, this is where they need to be on Saturday Nights. If people read this and try it only one time, I will have to start getting there earlier to get a seat. We stayed at the "Casita" on the Tejas Rodeo fair grounds and Cassie took our reservations. She was very responsive and accommodating in communications about the reservation, dinner reservations, brunch reservations, etc. She was a friendly face when we met her in person and you can tell she's sharp, caring and a hard worker! The General Manager, Tom, checked us in and escorted us to the house. The house was cozy a great romantic get-away. There was a sweet gray cat who greeted us. We were celebrating my husband's birthday- and had just come from the distillery tour at Rebecca Creek, so we enjoyed private drinks on the balcony before walking to the steak house for dinner. The KC Style steaks are AMAZING, and the biscuits were so yummy!!! After the steak house we enjoyed the rodeo and dancing before walking back to the Casita for the night. We had "behind the scenes access" so we were able to see all of the action. It was such a memorable experience. The house itself was comfortable and nice. Perfect for a little Texas weekend away! We will definitly go back and take our kids, not to stay the night, but the entire Rodeo is family friendly- so we'll take them to see the rodeo and dance the night away! read more

I visited the Tejas Steakhouse and Saloon shortly after it opened and I was pleasantly surprised by my whole experience. It was less rustic than I expected it to be, which I appreciated. I'm an ambiance kind of girl and I really thought the decor and interior were cool and created a great vibe inside the restaurant. We ordered wine and beer and started with an appetizer of fried pickles and jalapenos. I didn't eat any of the jalapenos, but my boyfriend did and enjoyed them. I loved the fried pickles, they were excellent. We were served a bread or roll plate at the beginning and those were awesome although I can't remember what was in them. For my meal I ordered catfish, and it also was great. My boyfriend tried the KC Style Tenderloin and he really enjoyed it. Our server was very knowledgeable and nice, and the service was good even though they were really busy. I will certainly be going back whenever I'm in the area again! read more

The worst experience I have had in regards to a steak house. I ordered a $25 12 oz. ribeye, at least 1/3 of it was a chunk of fat; not marbling, fat. I asked to speak to the manager who told me that what was on my plate was normal and that it was marbling. Mistakes happen, but it is the way they are dealt with that defines the establishment. The manager never apologized or tried to make any gesture of apology, he was completely unprofessional and condescending. I was with four other guests, they were even embarrassed; I remained calm and did not push the issue as I was entertaining guests. We continued the evening there at the rodeo they offer and it was very entertaining. They serve BBQ outside near the rodeo which looked very good. If you go to this place, skip the steak house and enjoy their outside BBQ for a fraction of the cost of the steak house. At the suggestion of one of my guests I took a picture with my phone of the steak with their menu under the plate. Unbelievable.... read more
