After Lafayette, I decided to come here. I read about the "Detroit Slider Spots" and Telway was one of, if not the most old school one I had read about. I pulled up to the lot, walked inside and ordered 2 cheeseburgers. You pay the man and then go around the corner to pick up your food through the bullet proof glass thingy. I grabbed my cheeseburgers and went to my car. How were they? Good! Cheeseburgers- These things are pretty small. Think McDonalds cheeseburger size, maybe a bit smaller. They come with a meat patty, cheese, grilled onions and ketchup and mustard. It was a tasty little meal to end the night. I definitely could have ate more if I just didn't eat some coney dogs 30 min before. The man collecting the money and the lady making the burgers were both real nice! I drove back by here during the day, and it looks way less ghetto than what I thought it looked like after midnight lol. I go to Detroit frequently and have made sure to go to Telway Hamburgers each time I am there. I don't know quite what it is about those burgers with the steamed onions, mustard, and ketchup but it all just works. I am not even from Detroit but the smell of this establishment is nostalgic and I visit once a year or so. We were searching for a truly late night option for solid coney dogs and came across this spot where the burgers/sliders are perfectly cooked (grilled onions and all) and the hot dogs are a solid treat. Telway is a longtime Detroit staple. If you want a fast, cheap, and greasy meal, you can't go wrong. 4-Pack Hamburger ($5.49) - Soft griddled burgers with a streak of pink through the center served with ketchup, mustard, soft onion and pickle, then steamed with the pillowy bun. Not as greasy as some of the other slider joints around. The patty itself is quite small and only fills maybe 2/3 of the bun. It's the most classic Detroit slider. Two, or maybe 2.5 of these is similar to a normal sized burger. Not really much else to say, if you go here, you know what you're in for. I've eaten here before and enjoyed it. It's pretty much White Castle. The problem was they are so unorganized at night. I'm not sure if it's new ownership or what. They have no clue what they're out of or who ordered what. I ordered and waited about 20 minutes. I watched them say there were out of things and not refund any money. I watched them fumble through food not knowing who it went to. In my case, after 20 minutes the guy asked me what I ordered again. They had lost or it or given it away. We saw this little burger joint and wondered if the food was as "old school good" as the building. It did not disappoint. The little burgers are a bit smashed in the wrapping, but they are delicious. Strong recommend. The burgers are moist and beefy, with grilled onions, pickles, and a spot of mustard. When you unwrap it you may think twice, but the first bite will reward you with a warm happy feeling of tastiness. There was a sign inside that promoted the "best" coffee. I didn't believe it. I don't get the hype. I've heard this place talked about for a long time and what i had was poor. I had onion rings that tasted like they were microwaved or something, chewy and cooked in old grease... the Telway burgers were just gross. I've heard them described as a better version of a fartbuster (white castle) , but i prefer fartbuster's honestly. Bun was chewy, dense and wet, burger tasted like old regrilled meat, onions were slimy and tasted like they were grilled in old cheap oil. Yeecchhh. I also had a footlong coney, this was the best thing i had but it's not saying much, it was cheap hot dog meat and the chili wasn't good either. Like something you get at a high school sports concession stand. OK. I would never come here by myself. Due to the environment. I made a promise I would try one of the burgers to someone who grew up right down the road. It reminded me of a mix between a memory from my childhood up north and a white castle. I kept my promise I ate one it wasn't bad. My son atethree. But he's a teenager.
