Instead, they pushed an aggressive treatment plan that included two crowns (I've never had one before, just a series of fillings) and at least 4 fillings. This was my third dental appointment in 8 months (due to insurance changes I was planning on coming here for extra cleanings this year). Within the last couple of months my dental work needs significantly jumped which blindsided me and caused major anxiety. Something felt off, so I sought second and third opinions from other dentists. No other dentist suggested crowns, nor did they find some of the fillings needed via X-ray nor the picking tool. At most it was 2 fillings needed instead of the vast work initially prescribed. To give credit where it's due, the front desk staff was wonderful and promptly shared my X-rays when I requested them for my second opinions. However, as someone with major dental anxiety, the rushed exam and sudden pressure from the dentist to urgently book expensive procedures was overwhelming. It is disappointing to experience this shift in care from a clinic I used to trust, not sure where I'll go from here but I needed to share my most recent experience.

He was kind, attentive, and made sure my mom felt comfortable during the visits. What we appreciated most was that both Dr. Lange and Rene took the time to educate us. They explained what they were doing, answered our questions, and discussed alternative options in case my mom continues to have sensitivity. That level of communication meant a lot. They have nitrous oxide (which is a plus for me because dental work always leaves me anxious). They offer blankets, water, chapstick, TV channel choices, etc... The deep cleaning was a pleasure to go through here and instead of just bleeding gums after, I actually felt clean- Amazing. In my opinion, most modern dentist office billing departments are untalented grifters at best. Here, I have never felt I was being weirdly charged or had them come back and say they miscalculated thousands of dollars, which has been the norm from other offices. I was disappointed with our experience at this dental office. My 22-year-old son was given a…read moretreatment plan for wisdom teeth #17 and #32 that included two bone replacement grafts and two resorbable barrier membranes, adding approximately $1,896 to the treatment cost. The estimate showed no insurance contribution for these procedures. I asked the office to explain why these additional procedures were medically necessary in my son's specific case, especially because he is young, has no known history of bone loss or periodontal disease, and other dental offices had not recommended grafting and membranes for his wisdom-tooth extractions. The office did try to explain the recommendation and mentioned concerns involving the nerves and healing. However, I still did not receive a clear explanation of why those concerns specifically required both bone grafts and barrier membranes, or what clinical finding made extraction without them inappropriate in his case. I also asked whether these procedures could be treated as optional, particularly since they were not covered by insurance. I was told that the dentist was not open to proceeding without them. After I continued asking for clarification and mentioned that other offices had not required these procedures, I was ultimately advised to have the treatment performed elsewhere. I have no problem paying for treatment that is medically necessary. But when nearly $1,900 of additional, uncovered procedures are being required, I believe a patient should be given a clear, case-specific explanation of the necessity, alternatives, risks, and consequences of declining them. We did not feel comfortable proceeding under those circumstances and decided to seek another opinion.

After placement, I continued having pain and cold sensitivity, and I raised concerns before any root canal was done that the crown was not contacting or functioning correctly. Multiple adjustments were made, but the problem was not resolved. I was then told to proceed with a root canal, and after that the crown still was not functioning properly. The end result was a crown with no proper occlusal contact that was not functional for normal chewing. Dr. Im also stated in writing, "You won't need a new crown" and "We do not remake crowns (my crowns) after root canal treatment." Despite all of that, Dr. Im refused to replace the crown or issue a refund. In my experience, the office felt more sales oriented than patient outcome oriented, and I was not comfortable with how far discussions went beyond the core dental issue I came in to address. I have filed complaints with the Dental Board of California and the California Attorney General.

First of all it took wayyy too long (I was there over 2 hours) just for a consult - no cleaning or anything. It was totally disorganized - they were having me fill out a million forms on paper then the same forms on a digital screen which took so long and I had to stop to start the appt. Dr Im would have kept me even longer and acted annoyed I had to leave after 2 hours 15 minutes. Secondly, Dr Im has a strange bedside manner. She didn't really "diagnose me" - she just rambled about tongue ties and kept pulling up screenshots on her computer to show me. It was a disjointed "presentation" not a diagnosis and I was entirely unclear what did or didn't relate to me. I kept asking questions to clarify and she would answer nonsensically so I kept getting more confused. Her assistant took about a thousand high res images and a scan of my skull. With no physical examination or further follow up using an explorer tool to tap on my teeth and feel for irregularities, she then declared I had "leaky fillings" and dental decay. She didn't tell me which specific teeth were supposedly experiencing these issues. I explained I had just last month had a dental exam and x rays and was cleared with no issues. She stated that you wouldn't see the decay on X-rays, only on her amazing cameras but assured me it could be reallyyy bad underneath (wouldn't you see it on the X-rays then?). She scoffed at the idea that a dentist can diagnose teeth unless they have her expensive camera set up. I think it's suspect she didn't ask to review my recent X-rays and simply dismissed them outright. IMO it is highly unusual and not best practice for a dentist to rely only on images, even high-resolution ones, to diagnose the condition of a filling. She appeared to have a bias towards technology, and came across as overly reliant on her camera system. My spidey senses were going off like crazy. After wasting my time she ended by saying I'd need to make an appt with their myofunctional therapist for an evaluation - why wasn't I sent there first? I didn't need a dental evaluation - I was looking for a tongue tie evaluation. I called my dentist and reported what they said about my teeth and they had me come back free of charge and my dentist said "your teeth are fine. No cavities. The fillings aren't cracked. You want to keep them as long as possible and avoid messing with them when not necessary." I found another dental office that, when I called, directed me to their myofunctional therapist directly for a consult. I'm so glad I didn't end up using Dr Im for my tongue tie. As others say be very very careful if you go here... and if she says you need a gazillion new fillings get another opinion!
