I was here on a Sunday evening for a volunteer appreciation dinner. I got there around 6pm and there was no parking on the street, I had to go down the block and park in a parking lot. The area tends to be a bit dark but I did not feel unsafe. The restaurant itself is on the Main Street and has ample outside and inside seating. Our group was in the back and we had the area to ourselves. There is large bar with 2 TVs playing games. I did not try drinks from the bar because those were provided by the group I was part off but the staff were helpful and attentive. We also did not order from the menu but had a buffet - small pieces of bread, butter, salad, mashed potatoes, pasta with shrimp, skirt steak and chicken. Unfortunately no dessert. The food was good, especially the skirt steak. The reason for the 4 starts is that nothing really stood out in the menu where I wanted to go back. The place was not very crowded, at the bar or tables. Maybe 3-4 tables were filled. The decor was warm and inviting with mostly wood on the walls and bar. My wife and I were in town for an event and randomly stopped in here for dinner. I have a ton of experience in the restaurant industry as management, and I have to say I had some of the best service I've ever had. Our bartender Monty was absolutely great. Not only was the service top tier, the food was delicious. I had the sliders, and they were amazing. Atmosphere was amazing as well. Loved the decor. I ordered the asparagus side dish today from Uber Eats. There are serious differences between the menu picture and the actual product. For $10, there are only 6 stems and the presentation of which is day and night compared to the picture on Uber. Last time, ordered the Tempo House salad (also from Uber Eats) and was given the regular house salad by mistake. I've given Tempo several chances, hoping things would get better--but each visit has only been more disappointing. For a place that brands itself as Gilroy's hottest restaurant and bar, it consistently falls short. The service is the biggest issue. Most of the staff come across as grumpy and inattentive, like they'd rather you weren't there at all. Guests are often ignored, not greeted when they walk in, and made to feel like they're inconveniencing the staff just by ordering. The food is mediocre--on par with fast food--and that's not just my opinion; everyone I know who's eaten there agrees. They have a great outdoor space, but they're never open during the day, not even on weekends, which feels like a huge missed opportunity. A recent visit was especially frustrating. Two friends had ordered drinks and fries before the kitchen closed. An hour passed--no fries. When they asked, the server just said, "The kitchen is closed." Eventually, they were brought a plate of cold, broken fryer scraps. One of them politely sent them back, completely discouraged. This is just one example, but sadly, it's not unusual. I want to support local businesses and truly hope to rewrite this review someday--but Tempo has a long way to go. read more

Came here Saturday for dinner. The hostess was very friendly and upbeat. Ambiance was pretty chill. They have live bands on certain days, which is cool. The only thing for me was that it was too loud to even have a conversation. My friend and I felt like we were yelling at each other across the table. As for the food - The bread they serve before the actual meals come out were so hard and cold. I couldn't even cut the bread with the butter knife. The Pork belly morsels surprised me. It was full of flavor and the orange slice tasted delicious. I got the linguine Alfredo with shrimp. The spinach and sun dried tomato was a good combo. My husband got the grilled king salmon. We ordered our food, we both ordered a salad with a selected protein. The chef forgot the protein we had to send it back. The Mediterranean salad was also missing all the feta cheese. They brought out more feta cheese and after observing my plate of food, I observed a bug crawl out of my salad. Then I observed a large fly crawl out from inside the salad. This is unacceptable. We left without eating pretty nasty. And this is totally unacceptable. The waitress was apologetic and initially identified the bugs as a net that may be around fruit. The wife and I were looking for a nice place for dinner on Halloween night. Our original plan was to go to Relish but they only so brunch on Sundays so we ended up at Tempo. Decor is nice with a modern upscale vibe. We sat at the bar because the plan was to try some new Prohibition cocktails. I find its a lot easier to speak to the bartender directly instead of trying to play the telephone game with a server. They only had 1 bartender working and I could tell he was pretty deep in the weeds but we were killing time so we were cool with waiting. I first had a Mary Pickford and then a Hemingway Daiquiri. Both were quite good. For dinner I had the Wagyu burger with bacon. The burger was tasty. Juicy with a nice charred flavor from the grill. The wife had ribs. Unfortunately she didn't like her dish as much as I did mine. Overall Tempo is a good spot for dinner and drinks. The prices are pretty reasonable. We were so excited to try the new place in town because we usually drive out to San Jose for happy hours. We knew it would probably be busy since it was opening weekend so we finished up with work a bit early and arrive at 3PM on Friday afternoon. THIS WAS THE MOVE. We got sat by the sunny front windows and worried for a second we might get forgotten up there but that thought quickly went away as our server was friendly and very quick to get us started. I ordered two Strawberry Fields drinks that were delicious and my boyfriend got two rum and cokes. We then got the fish and chips and margherita pizza from the happy hour menu. We were so impressed! It was made with care for sure. The fish and chips were crispy but light and juicy in the inside and the pizza had a crisp bottom and the toppings were quality. We were also surprised to get full size meals since they were happy hour prices and most places give you less food for those deals. As we were finishing up our drinks the owner came back to check on us and how we were liking our food. You can see he really takes pride in this new place. We walked out of there very satisfied with having found our new Gilroy happy hour spot and already planning to come back this weekend. The vibe of TBK was sparse, many empty tables with just a few warm bodies hunched over plates of food and glistening glasses of wine/beer. The decor of TKB was a bit monochromatic but like I've said before I'm there for the food and not the decor, I'm not Martha Stewart. The waiter was incredibly welcoming and brought us the menus to start the tempo for our evening. The beer selection was a bit disappointing, since I'm more of an Amber Ale man and it seems as though more and more places are hyper focused on IPAs. However, our waiter was willing to work with my disappointment and offered a beer that sufficed my cravings. We moved on to thee appetizers and settled on the beef sliders, fried Brussel sprouts, roasted beet salad and the pork belly morsels. The tempo of our experience was fast and furious as the appetizers landed on our table enticing us to do an Edward Scissor Hands on our plates of food. Every one of these appetizers made the tempo of our culinary experience move forward consistently like a drum beat at a pow pow. For the entree I was lucky enough to stamp my name on the last piece of Mahi Mahi and my wife ordered the Tenderloin special plate. My Mahi Mahi didn't skip a beat and moved the party bus down the belly brick road and was not stopping until my plate was cleared. My Mahi Mahi was savory, crispy and a true afternoon delight! My wife's tenderloin special was equally on point and put a smile on her face on a hump day night. This is definitely one of the more modern places you can find in Gilroy - it almost felt a little out of place on that downtown strip. All the little details to make this a music lovers restaurant was appreciated. This place is huge and can hold a lot of people, so we had no problem sitting our party of 7 for brunch. Most of us ordered the bloody mary which was well seasoned and thick. I ordered the chicken and waffles and I got to say - I've never had chicken and waffles like this before. Instead of fried chicken, you get two flattened breaded chicken breasts with hot honey. It was almost like milanesa. And instead of a giant belgian waffle, you get two toaster sized waffles on top of each other. At first I was a bit disappointed by the look of it, but I guess after I was done I appreciated the modest portion of what is usually a heavy meal. Around the table I got comments like they appreciated the thick slices of salmon for the benedict and not your typical lox in a bag pieces; and the chilaquiles were a hit, maybe even a bit too spicy from the comments I received. Well I am very disappointed. Soup was very watery and didn't have bread or crackers. And we asked and they gave us old, hard bread. I almost broke a tooth. We hosted an event at this venue on 4/27 and rented the back area. There were food and appetizers made available for 30 guests. The food was of high quality and the service received was excellent. However, I experienced some billing issues. They charged me 3x. The food expenses amounted to 2k+, which was acceptable to me. However, two additional charges of 1300 and 936 were debited which I promptly brought to their notice via calls and emails, also sending them proofs. One of the owners Dan assured resolution and asked his colleague, Nia to process the refund. However, luck wasn't in our favor. After continuous follow-up for two weeks, only part of the amount got refunded. Although I kept receiving assurances of settlement, there was no action. Finally, I had to approach my credit card firm to raise a dispute. It has been a month since. Therefore, I advise you to be alert about potential overcharges and inspect your bills thoroughly. Unfortunately, due to this incident, this venue isn't my preferred choice any longer. BEST DATE NIGHT SPOT IN GILROY! We were a walk-in party of 6 and were easily accommodated. SO NICE!! First time at this venue and I could not be more blown away. Classy vibe and a great show. Music was awesome. The service we had from Taylor was top notch- our drinks were always coming down!! The food was spot-on...and if the chef keeps producing like that.... Took my wife on a Friday night for a date. Atmosphere and vibe was definitely there to begin the night. We had great service from Marissa B she was super nice and definitely one the better servers we've had! The food not so great though. The bread they're supposed to serve before the meal came after they served our entrees. I had a cocktail called Strawberry Fields Forever, and it was ok I honestly didn't taste much alcohol. They did offer to make it again which I'm grateful for and it was a bit better but again not much alcohol. I had a burger and fries which was fine, but my wife had the Shrimp Fettuccine Alfredo plate and it looked delicious, however, the sauce did not taste like traditional Alfredo sauce. I asked Marissa about it because it had almost a sour after taste and she said they just rolled that plate out on the menu so they're still working on it. Overall 3 stars! Are there last night and listened to live music. I had the chicken piccata and partner had chicken Parmesan. Both were absolutely wonderful! Piccata sauce was light and had just the right amount of lemon flavor. Partner said his chicken park was the best he'd had in years! We had such a delectable dinner here recently. When we arrived there was no one at the hostess stand and although there were some servers around, no one helped us until we went to the bar. We had made a reservation, but that was unnecessary. It was very easy to make a reservation online if you need to. They have all kinds of wonderful events planned for practically every day it seems. We were drawn in by the free Frey whiskey tasting, which was excellent. We started with the Cajun dry rub chicken wings, served with ranch dressing, which were great. My husband had a skirt steak meal that was sublime. He asked for it well done and it was medium rare. Not a problem because it was delicious. I ordered steak Diane medium rare, but mine came well done. Again, not a problem because it was so delicious, but I would have preferred medium rare. The portions are generous, you will not leave hungry. Our waiter, Vervest was outstanding! Professional, personable, extremely knowledgeable of the menu, cocktails and of course wine. He was also friendly and very attentive. We were never without water or drinks. He truly made our night! We had a delicious espresso and ordered a molten chocolate cake and lemon cake to go. They were both really good! In conclusion, we highly recommend this restaurant, however be patient, I think they are having some growing pains. There doesn't seem to be a manager. Truffle fries could use more truffle, and flavor in general--its a decent fry, but looking for more from a truffle fry. Pork shank is very tender and tasty and served on some nice creamy polenta. There was one man and two women within view and three tables with patrons. One waitress walked right past without acknowledging us. Whether it's her job or not a simple "I'll get someone" is expected. I think our waitress is also the bartender. The other could've handled 3-6 tables easily. We ordered and it took 30 minutes for a sandwich and salad. The salad was good but the main ingredient was not the star. Fries are delicious. They know there's an issue with slowness based on the apologies. I felt bad but we probably won't be back. Sunday was not a good day to have lunch in beautiful pedestrian friendly downtown Gilroy.
