I came here to treat myself to lunch - just me, so I wanted to pick something on the menu that would be simple and yummy and suitable for one person. Under Cher's favorites was the chicken noodle soup. It looked simple, and healing...exactly what I needed. The first thing I sampled was the broth - rich, delicious, perfectly seasoned yet so very simple. There were 2 kinds of tofu (at least I believe they were both tofu). One of them was white, smooth, and had a firmer consistency almost like fish cake, but it didn't taste like fish cake. The other was fried tofu which had a lovely chewy texture and a deeper flavor. The shiitake mushrooms were delicious and so was the bok choy at the bottom. The rice noodles were delicious - perfectly cooked and so satisfying. Every once in a while I got a goji berry which gave me just a slight sweet flavor. The chicken leg had been seasoned beautifully as well and cooked just right. I finished the entire bowl and I seriously can't stop thinking about it. It's such a simple soup and it satisfied everything I needed that day. I can't wait to come back and have it again and hopefully I'll make my way to other menu items eventually! read more

First bite... we both looked at each other like... where the flavor at? Noodles were hot, meat was cold. That combo already threw me off. She asked for hot sauce, never got it. Another homie asked after he was DONE eating (lol), and of course they brought it to him instead. But here's the kicker... the hot sauce was watered down. Like... huh?? It didn't help at all. At that point I was ready to send mine back. I told them I didn't like it, and they basically said "just take it home." Ma'am... no. So I played it safe and ordered chicken and fries instead and finished off the spring rolls--which were actually good. But let me warn you: don't get excited about the sauces... because everything was watered down. I mean everything. Crazy. The chicken? Solid 3 stars. Still lacking flavor though. At this point I'm convinced the seasoning is optional and the sauces are supposed to do the heavy lifting... except they can't. Prices I think are very reasonable. $18 a person min I got the A2: in case the kids wanted to try some, unfortunately it was tasteless. You could taste a little flavor but it lacked everything. A new Chinese hot pot concept in a reinvigorated and soon to be bustling strip mall. This branch is spotless and the staff is super friendly. The main draw are the individual hot pots that come in with a choice of 5 stocks. You further choose the primary protein (e.g., beef slices, beef brisket, fish, etc.). As seen in the pix, a tray of about 10 other items (e.g., veggies, shrimp, egg, tofu, miso paste, etc.) are available to add into the boiling broth. Lastly, a bowl of parboiled rice noodles is provided (& added last). The stock comes out boiling hot but there is no warming device so "cooking" should not wait too long. Note that beef slices come only with the basic or beef slices protein option. We also ordered a tasty cold meat appetizer consisting of pickle-marinated gizzards, tripe, brisket slices & pigs ear. To finish the dinner, we had an order of fried milk. Everything was delicious, service was prompt, and while the concept might need some explanation, the staff were more than willing to provide help. I ordered the No.2 Tomato Soup. I'm surprised by the wide variety of dishes they brought out to complement the soup. The tomato based balance out the sodium content, the noodle and beef were especially flavorful. I would like to preface that I eat a lot and the portion they gave us was super filling. It was warm and comforting, but not as flavorful as I remembered (3/5). The beef brisket was very tough with too much cartilage, which made it hard to enjoy. That said, the topping selection was excellent. I picked everything I could within my dietary restrictions, and it was all fresh and tasted great. Overall, not quite as good as my first time, but still some high points. Service: This part was disappointing. I was in a rush and asked if I could order before the rest of my group arrived, but was told to wait at the table for the server. By the time we were helped, everyone had arrived and we ordered together. Unfortunately, that delay made me late enough that I had to skip an important meeting. Ambiance: The space is clean and modern, with a good layout for both groups and casual dates. I still like this restaurant overall, so I'll chalk this up to a possible off day. Not 100% authentic, but probably the closest you'll get without traveling to where crossing bridge noodles originated. They nailed the presentation with all the little plates, but it's still a far cry from the real thing. The taste was just okay and lacked the wow factor, but you're really paying for the experience. Adding all the ingredients into your own broth is part of the fun. Just be careful with the sliced beef as it overcooks quickly and becomes very chewy if left in too long. The golden broth has a bit of heat, but it's not overwhelming. Even those sensitive to spice might be able to handle it. Our golden buns looked quite dark, which made me wonder how often they change their oil. Overall, I think this location is better than the one in Beaverton, even though the food is what you'd expect from a chain. Still, it's great to finally have this chain in Portland. read more

Ten Seconds is a chain, but the food comes out quickly. Lots of variety to add to your hot broth, and the items cook quickly. The portion size is good. I was thrilled to hear there was a Yunnan Rice Noodle restaurant opening closer to me. I was excited for piping hot soup and not take out where I have to reheat. Quick background - the origin of the name and the dish itself is rooted in a legend from Yunnan province in China, where a wife would prepare a hot broth and quick-cooking ingredients for her husband who was studying across a bridge. The broth and noodles were kept warm in an insulated bowl, and the ingredients were added quickly to maintain the heat and freshness of the meal, leading to the "Ten Seconds" concept* The fam and I headed over on a lazy Saturday afternoon; the location was next to the empty big lots that was vacated. Lots of parking and not many people were there. We got there almost at 6 PM. No wait - we were the first ones seated. I gravitated towards the tomato broth and fish fillet because it's non-spicy and it's easy to feed the kiddo. We also tried the pig ears appetizer, but as a personal preference it was a little spicy for us, so I wouldn't order it next time. Food came out really quickly and literally piping hot (300 degrees!). We were making a joke cause it was shaped a little like a potty but all jokes aside WATCH YOUR HANDS cause there are areas of the pot that are still hot. We put all the sides into the hot pot except for the salty meat "jam" that is next to the pickled mustard (refer to picture). That "jam" is added for more umami and flavor. The tomato broth is a bit concentrated and acidic so note that if your stomach is sensitive. This is a chain (one in Beaverton) but come and support the hardworking staff! Clean and wonderful service - we'll be back! Kiddo was slurping up those noodles quicker than I can cool it down! Only con - if you have a little one, maybe bring your own soup spoon, they have the big one and then the next size is super small. There are cameras for a reason, and it's not fair to just start pointing fingers at a group of kids who are just trying to enjoy the food and have a great summer. Been going here for a long time. It seems that the owner is getting cheap in giving noodles. It used to be filled up to the top of the small bowl.
