A few days ago, I went to drop off a package at the U.S. Post Office and stopped at my favorite diner in Tenafly--the Tenafly Classic Diner--on my way home. I really enjoy sitting in the glass-enclosed area with a view of the outside. It was incredibly hot that day, but I felt very comfortable in that section because it was nice and cool. My server was very friendly, and the place is always impeccably clean. Today, I decided to have the fish tacos--battered style--and they were delicious. There were three huge tacos; I actually had to take one home. I also ordered a regular Coke with light ice. The food was delicious. I always leave this place with fond memories. My boyfriend and I go here somewhat regularly and we're always warmly greeted and seated immediately. The servers are friendly and responsive. The menu is extensive and everything I've sampled so far has been great. I do particularly like their salads which are fresh, generously sized and delicious. Be sure to dip your hoagie into the au jus. The homemade potato chips are hot and freshly made, which is a great side dish. For a diner, the chicken Parmesan was superior! There were two full size cutlets along with penne pasta. The sauce was thick and creamy; if I could, I would have ate the sauce by the gallon! The mozzarella cheese didn't have a golden brown char appearance, but don't let that fool you. The melted mozzarella blended perfectly with the cutlet, pasta, and sauce! The Funfetti cake was an excellent dessert; the cake was served chilled with layers of frosting in between the spongy, cake. My minor critique is that I wish the donut hole wasn't sliced as that compromises the appearance. Usually, I'm not a fan of wild shakes as the toppong is too overbearing. However, this does not apply with the Cookie Monster because the sugar cookie is not too powerful or sweet. In addition, the vanilla milkshake is dyed aqua blue to match the iconic Sesame Street character. The Cookie Monster design is very attractive and realistic. We ordered dinner via UberEats last night. It was our first time trying out this restaurant and I would definitely order again. I am pleasantly surprised with the grilled cod fish tacos. VERY filling as it is served with generous amount of fish. And the bonus side of plantains and rice with black beans are a plus. Plantains are my favorite side dish add-on to fish tacos. It would be nice to see plantains as a side dish option to purchase, at least that was an option the food app. This restaurant is running a promo on the app. Or if the is Buy one get one free on their cheesecake dessert. I highly recommend their fluffy mousse-like whipped cheesecakes, so delicious! They taste homemade and slices were large. This place is really a good diner, but it is expensive. They charge you extra for everything. There are no specials at this place. If you want French toast you have to pay extra for eggs, bacon, or anything else you want. We stopped here on a Sunday because it was the only thing open around 8:30 PM. We were welcomed by a nice hostess and the waitress came over right away with menus. We ordered a Philly cheese steak and a burger. The waitress was very accommodating and kind. I always order scrambled eggs well, and hubby orders over easy, both came out perfect. Pancakes were good too. Asks for toast with butter on the side, got that too! The only reason for one less star is because our waitress forgot our soup. They are a lil pricey. We ordered two cookies and cream milkshakes but they came out in different colors and tasted like mint milkshakes.
