Early into the new year I received an email "2025 Daily Voice Readers' Choice Awards" and it was their 'Best Deli in Bergen County' that caught my attention. "Bambino's?! New Milford?!" - as someone that hits an Italian deli every single weekend I had to make the trek to see what's what. I excitedly walked in first thing on a Saturday morning and my Spidey senses started to tingle that something was amiss. In this long narrow storefront a lot of shelf space was given to... various bags of chips. And there were at least two racks full of... bagged breadcrumbs?! Everything just felt 'off' from all the other Italian delis in surrounding towns so I just got two items (which set me back over $40) and I found it really odd that instead of a secure plastic container for the meatballs and sauce they were put in a foam takeout container instead. (Really?! For something this soggy?!) As for the (overpriced) items I picked up? The meatballs and sauce - very good. The breaded chicken cutlets - extremely disappointing. The two people behind the counter - incredibly friendly. No joke: I immediately took a ride over to Luigi's in Wood-Ridge to get all the other items that Bambino's didn't offer. I'm baffled how this joint 'won' when Bergen County has an abundance of much better places... Michael's Salumeria (Lyndhurst), Annamaria's (East Rutherford), Piccolo's (Ridgefield), Bartolomeo's (Englewood) and, of course, Luigi's - all come to mind. Imagine my elation when as a Brooklyn-Staten Island​ transplant I found a local Italian sandwich spot that made decent sandwiches. That was, until today. WTF is this?? (see pic) The reason a person pays $15.99 for a sandwich is to, well receive a sandwich. Especially one from an Italian deli which up until today carried itself with pride. I got the classic Italian and it was mostly a ham sandwich. This was the amount of salami I got. The person making the sandwiches was very chaotic and frazzled. She was confused that there were so many people coming in during lunch time and "didn't have enough help" to take all of the orders coming in. I waited 20 minutes for a ham sandwich and it was expensive. This place needs to hire more people or limit the number of items on the menu. Would not recommend. read more

I ordered two sandwiches and there was something wrong with both. I got the Jocko and it was missing bacon that is supposed to come with it and I requested onions that it was also missing. The other was the Yankee and the "fried" chicken was RAW!! Meaning you could not eat it! After ordering through Slice and getting it delivered, the owners refused to give me my money back for that one sandwich after offering to send a picture of the raw chicken in the sandwich as proof. According to Slice customer service, I could bring the sandwich back to the shop for a discount which I find as unacceptable "solution". $50 for two sandwiches, one of which went straight into the garbage. Yummmm! The deli is neat, clean and has plenty of snacks and chips. The owner is so kind and friendly! I ordered a Yankee chicken (chicken cutlet, bacon, lettuce, tomato, bacon, Mayo and cheese), an Iron Man (grilled chicken, broccoli rabe, provolone and garlic aioli), and on a whim, a rice ball. Everything was delicious and fresh. The sandwiches are huge! One is large enough for two people, or two meals for one person. I believe there is a 3.5% credit card fee, as there was a sign posted by the register. People may scoff or complain about the pricing- $13 for a sandwich. However, it's two meals, so a half with tax is about $7. This is what you'd pay literally anywhere else. Definitely stop in for a great meal! read more

I'm so glad that there is finally a place to take the reigns from Dante's (R.I.P.) as the top Italian deli in the area. The food is fresh, high quality and - most importantly - delicious! I've tried the Drunken Chicken (a chicken parm hero with vodka sauce layered on top), The Godfather, Rice Balls (with a tasty marinara!) and meatballs. Everything was outstanding! Today's review takes us to New Milford at Bambino's Deli. This used to be Frankies Deli and is now owned by 2 New Milford residents. Since it's St Pat's day and he was Italian I decided to go with a corned beef sandwich, coleslaw, and Russian dressing. This thing was a monster and hit the spot. I couldn't finish it because I also ordered the Drunken Chicken Parm after it was recommended by Dave. Again a monster sandwich, definitely enough to feed 2 people. The Chicken cutlets were moist, the sauce and cheese were in perfect balance. My only recommendation would be to toast the inside just a bit to give it a slight crunch. But besides that a solid sandwich. The rolls are from Rockland Bakery but they wouldn't disclose where the loaves are from. Dave joked "If I told you he'd get fired". He went on to say that his other sandwiches weigh in at 2lbs sometimes. And next time come in for breakfast because they make something called "The Great Hambino" which is 4 eggs, Taylor Ham, Bacon, Grilled Ham, Sausage, American Cheese, and Hash Browns. Sure we only live once! They are also doing family dinners on Thursday each week for $45 and have to be ordered by the day before. So if you're in the Area check out Bambinos. This is my second review of Bambino's in New Milford and this time it was for breakfast to try The Great Hambino. Dave answered was super friendly and told me my order would be ready in 10 mins. When I got there it was just coming out of the kitchen. I paid and Dave joked about not being able to work after eating the sandwich because of the weight. And he was right the sandwich weighed in at 1lb 13ozs and I could only eat half. The sandwich includes Ham, Sausage, Bacon, Taylor Ham, Hash Browns, Cheese, and Eggs on 3/4 of a loaf of bread. Everything was cook well and each bite gave you a different flavor. You could taste each individual ingredient. The bread also stayed firm in the travel home. This was a solid sandwich and now I'm going to go take a nap. read more

This will definitely be my new BEC place as it's so close to home and the gentleman who took my order was super friendly and even offered me coffee while I waited. Huge freaken sandwiches. I mean no joke about it, and not just like a lot of the toppings; lettuce tomato, onion, etc. But like pounds of actual meat on there. We ordered 3 sandwiches for pick-up and they were ready in minutes. I think we lucked out on that, because I've heard/read that there can be times of a real wait (hey, they're popular) We got the Drunken Chicken, Frankie's Italian, and the Godfather (roast beef). We were all so happy with our choices. Some of us couldn't even finish it and were able to have the rest as a 2nd meal. Just as an FYI the Godfather has a little kick to it, which was very nice. I will say one downside for me, the roast beef is cooked very well done. I prefer pink in my meat, but I get that you don't normally get roast beef and gravy served that way. I have ordered from this deli via Door Dash many, many times and rarely have had any problems. My coworkers and I (all of us are nurses, doctors, and nurse's aides) have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on their food. I will NEVER order from here again. The way the staff disrespected me over the phone (as well as disrespected the door dash driver) was absolutely disgusting. I was yelled at by the employee over the phone and was told "I am not repeating myself again! I do not have time for this! I am not dealing with you! Cancel your order!" (All because I was trying to clarify whether or not I could substitute a sandwich because they completely ran out of chicken.) I was very calm and polite the entire time spent on the phone. This business lost an order today of $130.00, my coworkers and I usually order between $75.00 to $250.00 per order around 10-15 times a month. Do the math and that's how much money this business will now lose because they didn't want to "deal with me." I would never reccomend this deli again to anyone unless they enjoy being treated like absolute trash while trying to order food. read more

On Wednesday I searched for lunch places on Yelp. Found this place which was close to where friend was so we took a chance, placed our sandwich orders and were extremely happy!! I had the eggplant supreme and she had one of the grilled cheese specialty sandwiches. They were plentiful, well worth the money because the price was reasonable and most of all DELICIOUS!!! Hey now!! New Milford finally gets an above average deli! It's in the same spot as the "one time awesome, but fell to crap in the last 10 years" Frankie's Deli. Bambinos is light years better than that place ever was and some of the sandwiches are EPIC!! Gosh, what can I say. Bambino's took the place of the old Frankies Deli and luckily a great deli is now back to serve the Hackensack, Teaneck, New Milford and River Edge area. Ever since Dante's in River Edge closed, the area was without a great sandwich spot. I had the Great Bambino and by God what a sandwich. Easily a meal for 2 or 3. I only was able to finish half. Sandwich must've weighed 3-4 pounds of Italian and American meats. Best thing it's all quality. My wife ordered the drunken chicken parm. Great taste to the Vodka sauce and again, a meal for 2 people. Can't wait to try out what else they have on the menu read more

For all of you poor souls, like, me who expected and hoped for the return of Dante's in River Edge, Bambino's is your place. It's a little further, but worth it. The sandwiches here are top notch and, in many cases, better than ill-fated Dante. Their specialty combos are huge, delicious, fresh and made on excellent bread. I love the Drunken Chicken, Yankee Chicken, Godfather among others. My wife loves their chicken salad. It's strictly takeout, of course. But you can order ahead and it will be waiting. Food was delicious. Not my first time getting lunch here. Was there when they first opened and things were just as slow but I figured I'd give them time to adjust. No change. The service needs a lot of help. One guy making sandwiches during lunch hour is ridiculous. They put the phone orders up before they help customers on line.
