They couldn't squeeze me in until three weeks later on the 4th of December. The technician arrived at my house, a day early, on the 3rd of December. Fortunately I was home. The technician worked on the unit and told me that the valve was faulty and that he would have to order a part. He had no idea how long it usually takes, but he said he would have the office give me a call. After waiting a week for a call from the office, I decided to call to check on my part order. I was placed on terminal hold with the same recorded message repeating every 2 minutes, until finally, after holding for nearly 20 minutes, someone answered the phone, but the person who answered the phone said they didn't know anything about my parts and transferred me to another phone line with a voice mail box that couldn't accept messages. I had things to do, so decided to call back the following day. I called back the following day, endured the same recording played over and over and over and finally someone answered. He said a part was ordered but had no idea when it would arrive. Finally three weeks later, I called again and endured the same recording .... and so it went. After calling three separate times on that day, someone answered and said the part was in, but they couldn't fit me into the schedule until the 22nd of January. Geez Louise! You'd think they would have set aside a time in sync when they anticipated the part, but no. So finally on January 22nd, some 10 weeks later, the part was installed and service restored. Then came the shock that I was not prepared for. The repair total was $600. I have recommended Archie's before based upon the service in 2022, but not after this fiasco.

Absolutely Awful company - which is a shame because they used to be good…read more We hired them to do a pre-home-purchase chimney inspection and they guaranteed to provide an inspection report within 24 hours (since that's how home inspections are supposed to work, so you have time to make decisions and work with the seller about your purchase). It took them over a week to get us an inspection, despite us reaching out multiple times asking for it. We did not get their inspection report until after we had to close on the home, so it was useless. Also their inspection report said our chimney and fireplace were dangerous and unusable, and wouldn't be safe unless we did over $25,000 dollars worth of repairs and replacements in our chimney, which was absolutely stupid. We had a second company (Chimney Sweeps West) come out to do a second opinion, and he was amazed at how good of shape our chimney was in, got it working for us (gas log), and showed us a few pointers on how to make it work even better! He said the chimney didn't need any work at all, other than a bit of a cleaning. A fantastic guy. We asked for our $345 inspection fee back, since they did not fulfill their promise. They refused to return it, so I had to file a credit card dispute against them instead. Don't ever hire these people, they are scam artists.

My wife and I decided to install electric fireplace inserts in our two fireplaces. After doing…read moresome online research we chose the Heat&Glo SF-INS35. After putting in my zip code the Heat&Glo website directed us to American Fireplace, Sevierville, Tn, as the closest distributor. This was about 45 minutes from my home in Knoxville. I called the number and talked to "Jerry" who informed me that "they had just had a $100 increase in price" the day before my call. After negotiating we agreed on a price of $2,850 for two inserts which would be shipped to American Fireplace. I was told that I would have to pick them up in Sevierville in two weeks. This price was "out the door" including tax and shipping. After being notified that the units were ready for pick-up I drove to Sevierville and presented my Visa card for payment. The cashier told me there would be a 3% charge for using credit which I refused to pay. She begrudgingly processed my payment and I loaded the units and left. I installed the first stove and was pleased. I had a question during the installation which was not clear in the the instructions so I returned to the internet for information. My search using the model number revealed a distributor in Cleveland, Tn offering the same unit for $325 dollars less. I called and talked to "Joe" who was very nice. He verified the price. I did not mention my previous purchase. My wife and I decided that we would purchase another unit from the Hearth and Grill Sales, Cleveland, Tn, 888.230.5398 if we could return our remaining unit to American Fireplace. After driving to Sevierville we were informed that the unit could not be returned because it was a "special order." We argued that it was not a special order and that it was a back order. We were then made to wait over an hour until "Jerry" returned to the store. We realized that our return was subject to a 20% restocking fee but we asked not to pay that amount because we bought one stove which we were keeping. After negotiating for 15 minutes we agreed on a refund of $1,300. I ended up saving $100 and Hearth & Grill shipped the new stove directly to my home. Heat&Glo makes a good unit but they should be embarrassed by their Sevierville distributor. I could have saved myself some grief if I had read reviews. It is now obvious to me that American Fireplace in Sevierville, TN is less than reputable.
