When you walk in it can be sort of confusing but follow the crowd and you will arrive in the restaurant. You order at the counter and they will give you a beeper so you know when your order is ready. On to the food. One thing I enjoyed was they had mini bowls so you can try different things! I really liked the shrimp one! My boyfriend enjoyed the kimchi pork. My favorite thing I tried was my sisters udon noodle bowl. Yum. The flavors came together so nicely. Next time I will get the soup. Some of the best ramen AND sushi in Columbus! I have tried many sushi places in Columbus and keep coming back to Tensuke for its great quality and affordability. I always get the tonkotsu ramen - the broth is so rich and full of pork flavor. You also get a lot of noodles, pork slices, and an egg. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it now! I've been meaning to try other types of ramen too but I always end up ordering this one because it's so good. The sushi is super affordable and the quality is actually pretty comparable to other places that are 1.5x the price. You can pick up pre-made rolls in the grocery market next door and bring it back to the restaurant to eat, or you can order rolls to be made fresh at the sushi window. Some of my favorite rolls are yellowtail & onion ($4.10), crunch salmon ($5.10), spicy salmon ($4.80), and shrimp tempura ($5.10). $12 for delicious ramen and sushi is pretty much unbeatable. Okay, so first off, let's be clear that this is a very small, mostly self-serve restaurant inside a grocery store. I love Japanese food so when I saw all of the reviews, I had to check this place out. We went on a Saturday (one of their busiest days, I imagine). We put our names down on a list and waited 15-20 minutes before getting a seat at a circular fish tank bar. We set our stuff down and went up to order. For such a small place, there's a lot to choose from! We settled on udon noodles with spicy shrimp tempura and chicken teriyaki. You pay when you order and they give you a buzzer that goes off when your food is ready to be picked up. Our food was probably ready in no more than 10 minutes, which is good because we were hungry! Now how was the food? It was good. It wasn't mind-blowing-must-have-it-every-chance-I-can-get-good but it was good. I enjoyed the shrimp tempura and the udon noodles were flavorful (and even better with a few drops of the hot oil). The chicken teriyaki had good flavor but I was less than impressed with the cut of meat they used. It was dark meat and although I typically love dark meat, I prefer white meat when it comes to my chicken teriyaki. If I could, I would probably give them a 3.5 but if I have to lean one way or the other, it's a 4. I would certainly go back again if I'm in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way or wait in a long line for it. read more

My little sis is now in Columbus for her PharmD program, and now I have a reason to visit and eat lots in Columbus. This is a cute sushi cafe with good udon, ramen, and rice bowls! It's attached to their market which has pre-packaged sushi that you can buy and eat at the cafe (make sure you have them put a sticker on it after you buy it). We bought the large tuna and shrimp roll package at the market, and then we went over to the cafe and waited in line. We came here on a Sunday, and it was packed! I do appreciate that they have staff making sure that it's first come first serve (and save your spot) while you order your food. The broths were delicious for the ramen and the udon! I also got the mini beef bowl which was great as well. The tuna and shrimp sushi was good as well, but I wish they would put less rice around the roll. I definitely will be back! read more

This place gets fairly crowded because for the price you pay, the food is good. However, you'll get seated fairly quickly and the food comes out very fast as well. I always get the combo deal of udon with a mini beef bowl. Both are delicious! I have a thing where my food has to be serve piping hot and Tensuke express never fails to do that. I also sometimes get the mini curry bowl and it's more than enough to be a solid lunch meal on it's own. The curry is good without being overpowering. read more

This place is great!!! Service was great with super friendly and helpful staff. Good size portion with very fair price and the food is yummy! Ordered the curry pork cutlet (came with miso soup too) and it was delicious! Pork fried just right, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The curry already had small chucks of beef and carrots on the other side the the rice. Curry was super tasty, creamy and flavorful. The whole dish came together really well. The ramen here is so much richer and more flavorful than other versions I've had. On my first visit, I decided to go traditional and got the Tonkatsu broth with a pork cutlet. Each ramen bowl is served with a boiled egg, seaweed and fish cakes and you can switch out the noodles if you prefer udon or even their green noodles. I found the menu to be very straightforward and the price point was on par of what I'd expect for the cafe ambiance. It's very clean inside and there is tons and tons of seating. As I said, the tonkatsu broth is very rich and flavorful. My Japanese friend who came along said it was a little fishy for her taste, and I could see where she was coming from, but for me I though the flavor really surpassed my expectations. The only criticism I can think of is that because the broth is so rich, it isn't something I'd want to eat very often. The pork cutlet and accompanying elements were really satisfying and I actually was surprised how big the portion size was. I also got an order of the shrimp shumai which was a very generous size for shumai, and I loved how large the shrimp pieces were. Overall I really couldn't find anything I didn't like about Tensuke Express and I'm very eager to try their other menu items next time I'm in Columbus. *I should also mention that the ramen option listed on their menu as "vegetable" is actually not vegetarian as it's made with a fish based broth, however they do have a vegan option if you ask. Obviously it doesn't really compare to the other ramen options as there isn't any broth to speak of, but rather a soy-based sauce, however I did want to mention that the option is available for vegetarians and vegans. read more

The dining room was open at limited capacity and this is not a table-service restaurant where a host seats you, so use your own judgement when deciding to dine-in because seats may be limited. Food was delicious, portion size for the price was great, and the wait was short. It's part of a mini marketplace with an Asian grocery store beside it, which we shopped at while we waited (they give you a pager to alert you when your order's ready). My new favorite place for Asian food in the Bethel/Henderson/Kenney Rd area. Wonderful selection of food to choose from. Given it 4 cuz it's a bit confusing how to go about things and were to get utensils when you first arrive. Had yakisoba with veggies, nice Flavor and you can tell the veggies are fresh. Big plus! Great portion size and they also offer "mini bowls " for certain items if you aren't feeling like a huge plate of food. Very clean establishment and it didn't take long for our order to come out. Solid place to come for food! I ordered a ramen with a spicy tonkatsu broth and chasu pork. They changed their spicy option by allowing customers to choose a spice level from 1-4 instead just having one option available. I ordered a level 3 and it had the perfect amount of spice and the broth was still so flavorful. There was a generous amount of pork and it was so good. There was also so much noodle in the dish as well. However, the noodles are glassy and the other ramen places I tried had a different kind of noodle. I didn't really like the glassy noodle but that is just personal preference. We also had the fried squid and it was very tasty! The sauce was amazing as well. I would definitely suggest trying this appetizer. The price was fair as well... $5 for 4 pieces. Overall, this is a great place to come for ramen, udon or curry. This used to be one of our favorite places to enjoy Japanese/Korean dishes. New location and renovations were very delightful and created a warm environment. My wife ordered her favorite Eel bowl which is always great but very pricey for that type of dish. I ordered the stir fry Yaki Udon noodles which came out very bland. I always love their curry, shrimp tempura udon, and sushi (note that sushi is no longer served in the new Tensuke Express space but can be ordered next door now). The columbus roll is my favorite, jumbo roll for under $10, very good deal. You can also shop in the Japanese market next door while you wait or after. It can get very crowded on the weekends though so prepare to wait. I lived in Little Osaka in LA for a year and frequented Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area in California for about 2 years, so I know what authentic Japanese food taste like. This restaurant comes as close as possible! The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated and the staff is friendly. It is rare to have a order-and-pickup type of restaurant for Asian food, but Tensuke Express does it well! The soba broth was much better, but still lacked any depth. The spring rolls were a true disappointment; I really think they came out of a bag in the freezer and were thrown in the deep fryer. The restaurant itself was really stylish and is sectioned off so you can find a quieter area if you'd like. I had high expectations for this place based on the rave reviews but have to be honest that I was very disappointed. My husband and I arrived on a Sunday close to 2pm. The wait just to order our food was at least 15 minutes and several people in front of us even left the line because of how slowly it moved. To be fair, wait times were clearly posted so we knew what we were getting into. I paid about $30 for an order of chashu shoyu ramen, a beef/onion bowl, and curry with pork cutlet. I wasn't a big fan of the pricing but was even more upset considering the quality of food was subpar. The ramen broth itself had absolutely no flavor and the chashu pork was cold and chewy. The beef/onion in the bowl was cold and flavorless. I also found the quality of the pork in my cutlet to be pretty cheap. I felt the curry itself would have been better if I made it myself at home. Overall, very disappointed with the experience. I don't mind waiting or paying for good food, but everything I tried here definitely wasn't worth it. I was a big fan of Tensuke Express before they moved to this new location. The price of everything on the menu has increased by at least 20%-a bowl of ramen went from $7.95 to $9.75, and Udon from $6.95 to $7.95. I understand a price increase is necessary to cover the increasingly expensive ingredients overtime, but this is outrageous. You'd expect more or better food for the money but the quality and quantity of their food is not improved whatsoever. The only thing nice about this new restaurant is the contemporary decor, and clearly they let customers pay for the design by pricing $2 more for a bowl of the same old remen. Not to mention the service was bad too. I'm disappointed with the new place and it's probably the time to look for a new ramen restaurant. read more

This is a great spot for satisfying a ramen craving! I got the shoyu ramen and it was very flavorful and I love that you can ask for it to be spicy.
