I've been in Flagstaff for 4 years and I always come here at least 4 times per year then I got a news where the restaurant have new owners now. Now since the restaurant is in the hand of new owners, the food is not what I used to have. It's not good at all! The steak is bland, the sushi is really bad and the everything isn't good at all. Came here last night with the kids. Sat in the Teppan side (sushi side was really booming) food was tasty and prepared quickly (chef did a couple flair things but we had all our food fast) it was just what we needed with two hungry kids. I came in for lunch, i was greeted right away and shown to my table. It was nice to know that I was offered teppanyaki with out a reservation (good for future reference) service was exceptional and prompt. Food quality was delicious and fresh. Sushi rolls were of average portion (not bad) especially because the didn't overload the roll with a lot of rice. I will be coming back! I forgot to see if they had happy hour specials. read more

Had dinner at the sushi bar a few nights ago, I would not recommend this place. The sushi chef was very rude and very inconsiderate, this restaurant should really give him a course on customer and employee relations. Our waitress Erlane was very sweet and very attentive even though we had to wait a long time for our sushi, and when she asked about our order, the sushi chef just gave her some serious attitude.. My wife and I are frequent sushi eaters and this was a big let down, so not worth driving an hour for. read more

This was my FAVORITE place BEFORE it changed hands. I went a couple of weeks ago & so very sad to say it was awful. The tempura was like deep fried veggies, not the light crispy tempura that used to be made. The chicken teriyaki was flavorless. Even the decor was downgraded, no longer does it feel like the corner Japanese place I used to love. I am so very sorry these changes were implemented, I won't return :( read more

Tonight, we decided to order dinner from Teppan Fuji. We used a delivery service. The delivery service brought us half the order (fried rice, salad, spring roll). Unfortunately, we did not receive the 3 hibachi chicken and filet mignon (i.e. the main course). I then called the restaurant. They agreed to deliver the rest of the order. 20 minutes elapsed and I called about the status of the food. They told me that the "driver left 5 minutes ago." Well, another 25 minutes elapsed. I tried calling and they blocked my phone number. My husband called from his phone and they hung up on him. We then called from my son's phone to tell them how they epically failed. They turned down the offer for my husband to pick up the order. They did not want to negotiate nor problem solve. The driver finally showed up, 45 minutes after the initial call. We believe they gave away our original main course and had to re-prepare the food. There's a reason why their best cook left the restaurant, prior to COVID. Think twice before ordering from them. read more

This is our favorite teppanyaki restaurant in Flagstaff. The staff is friendly and the chefs are always hilarious and engaging, especially with young children. The food is very tasty and not overly oily or salty like some other teppanyaki that I have had. We usually get the shrimp, chicken, and vegetable teppanyaki. The portions are generous and we always have leftovers for the following day. The prices are reasonable, especially for a nice dinner to celebrate a special event. read more

I came here for dinner with my family, and the place is pretty nice and quiet. There were fire shows going on next to our table. We ordered tempura udon, ninja roll, rainbow roll, and shrimp yaki soba. I personally liked the yaki soba and the texture of the fresh shrimp. The fried shrimp from the tempura udon was also very crispy and nice. For rainbow roll, it's like a typical Californian roll with raw fish on top and avocados inside, and the ninja roll was a roll with avocados, cooked fish on top, and fried shrimp inside. The food in here was pretty decent and tasty. Also, if you check in through Facebook, Twitter, or yelp, then you could get a 10% discount! read more

This is the best sushi in Flag. It is the real deal! The prices are reasonable, and they also have specials on Tues/Wed that make it an even better deal. The servers are excellent, but sometimes the sushi bar gets backed up on busy nights because there are only 2 sushi chefs. If they could have an addtional sushi chef to work on the busiest nights it would help. I have been to all the Flagstaff sushi places multiple times, and this place is the best of the bunch. read more

Sushi is suppose to be a special food with the highest quality ingredients. Any place that serves frost bitten, over cooked edamame automatically doesn't get past the appetizer stage with me. I found it particularly offensive that this place was actually run by Japanese owners. Take more pride in your one of your cultures most iconic foods. I'm really sick of the degradation of the sushi eating experience. I'll wait until my next trip to Vegas or LA for trustworthy fish. Good luck eating anything raw here. read more

My family and I have been going to this establishment for years, but unfortunately, I have to write this review. About half a year ago, the restaurant got new owners. we had assumed that nothing would change drastically, but we were wrong. They had fired nearly half the staff and brought in completely new people, untrained. Before we stopped going completely, we had an issue every time: cold food, incorrect orders, and incompetent servers, just to name a few. We'd hoped that it would be temporary, and as soon as they trained them it would get better, but after months of terrible service we decided we could no longer go there. We stopped. Recently, though, we decided to go back. The interior had completely changed. Instead of an authentic, comfortable, homey style Japanese restaurant, we were instead greeted to noisy music and multicolored lights that were out of place for the style of restaurant. We didn't mind though, we didn't go for the lights, but we can't say the food or the service was much better. Our server took our orders, and started getting food prepared. We got our drinks: Two hot, "teas," and three waters. We might as well had ordered five cups of water. After quite a long time steeping, the tea tasted like water, but our server tried to bring us three full pots of hot water, with NO extra tea bags. He never refilled our water, and the sushi chef had to come over to bring our sushi over because he was nowhere to be seen, and couldn't be bothered delivering our food. (It is not the chef's job to deliver our food, we saw multiple servers carrying the sushi to their tables.) When we actually got our food, we were... Disappointed, to say the least. The shrimp in the Spider Roll was lukewarm from sitting on the counter for so long, and the seaweed wrap was incredibly tough, but the Firecracker Roll was delicious; I'll give them that. Our tempura did not fare so well. It was the worst tempura we have ever had. For starters, we never got the soup or the salad that was supposed to come with it. The vegetables were good, but the batter tasted like beer-batter, not tempura batter, he forgot the sauce, and when he brought it out it was cold. The Beef Yakisoba was sub-par: tough, chewy meat, and it was overpowered by the insane number of onions in it. Our server did not come by to check on our food, and so, for several minutes, we waited, and waited, and watched him go to the other tables he was serving - It's important to note that the restaurant was maybe a quarter full, and he was only serving for two other tables. He eventually came, just to give us our bill, and we told him about the issues with our food. He replied that he would "talk to his manager," about how he could negotiate with the price, and then we proceeded to see him walk into the kitchen and then walk out to serve the other tables, just refill their water, which he never offered us, and then came back after ten minutes with no manager to say that he could give 10% off. We assumed this meant 10% off along with the tempura being voided, as we didn't get half the meal, but it did not: just the 10%, and upon visiting this site, I've found out that you can get that exact discount for just showing it to the server. We never even got the soup or salad that was supposed to come with the meal. The total was about 50$ which i don't think was worth what we had been offered In short, don't visit this restaurant. The service, at least for me and my family, has been terrible, the staff are undertrained, the atmosphere is less than optimal, and the price is questionable for the quality. I hope the new owners can learn from their mistakes, but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. If you decide to go anywhere, don't go here. read more

In the state of Arizona it is hard to find good restaurants, especially in Flagstaff. I can't help but notice, most of the negative reviews are from local reviewers. I hope that isn't more informing of local bias regarding friends and family and perhaps more to the local preferences of Americanized Japanese food. This is after all the town where there is a line out the door of the Panda Express. Many of the the positive reviews come from Californians that may have had more exposure to Japanese food and restaurants. I am from the South Bay area of Southern California and grew up in Japan, the Tokyo area. I have eaten here since it opened and have never had to wait long for service or our food. They use the best ingredients: The grade of miso, gohan (rice), vegetables , soy sauce, meats and sashimi. Their Teriyaki chicken is reminiscent of Yakitori chicken I miss from Japan. Well char grilled with a light teriyaki sauce that is not too thick like the bottled kind one finds elsewhere. The miso soup is not too salty, it doesn't have to be...the miso is a higher grade. I have never...ever come across sashimi in this restaurant that was less than fresh. The color and texture is always perfect. At $5/ 2 pieces, Teppan Fuji's salmon roe (ikura) is always the perfect temperature and freshness. I have had it served to me at room temperature and a brown color at a restaurant downtown on Milton. I have never been back. You do not serve caviar that you charge nearly $8 for two pieces in that manner. Their maki and nigiri are prepared properly, they do not fall apart when lifting off of the plate leaving most of it in the shoyu (soy sauce) dipping plate. Japanese people feel their meals are well, rice (gohan) with other accompaniments. So much so that their meals are called - gohan. At this restaurant you will receive Japanese rice in a proper Japanese rice bowl. I have always been mystified as to how one can eat rice on a plate. Another Japanese restaurant in town considers it an extra ...at $2.50 a bowl. The only other one in town cannot pronounce the Japanese name of their own restaurant. Teppan Fuji is the only place in town to offer Japanese Croquette, perfectly golden fried sweetened mash potatos, crusted in panko. Their tempura is a real tempura breading, light, airy and crispy. All of this served on korin (Japanese tableware). This restaurant is a local business: A small Japanese American family run outfit (I am not related and don't really know them). I cannot comment as to their Teppan grill as I am not a Teppan fan. This is an authentic Japanese American restaurant, not a fusion restaurant. Just the basics where the Korean and Japanese folks in Flagstaff go to eat. The wait staff give you their full attention. They are professional, they face you fully when attending to you. Often my drinking glass is filled (and kept filled) so professionally I do not notice. I wish they would offer mentaiko spaghetti and yakibuta ramen! read more

Good saki and so-so sushi. But the service!!! Waited for ages to get just water and then waited ages to order, then they forgot two orders completely. No apology when I asked about the missing food. They were out of one item but did not mention it until I asked about that order. "Oh, we're out of that." Maybe tell the customer that you don't have it when they are ordering?? Food is great! I have been here many, many, many times and I love it! The food is great and so is the price. The other Teppanayki place in Flagstaff, Sakura, has a nice ambiance but the food is no where as near as good as Teppan Fuji. The chefs are hit or miss though it depends on their moods if you get a chef who entertaining or not. They make onions but because they don't do the onion tower where they set it on fire so the onions don't get fully cooked which is disappointing because the rest of the food is really good, and the fried rice is amazing!!!!! read more

This is our go-to place when we're in the mood for Japanese food (better than Hiro's Sushi, though we've not tried Sakura or Lotus Lounge). One side is for teppanyaki, where the chef comes out and puts on a show (dorky or entertaining, depends on your taste) while cooking meals on a hot grill and you dine with strangers. The other side is for sushi, noodles, or other dishes from the kitchen. Food is generally tasty, though sometimes inconsistent. The entertainment from the teppanyaki side can be noisy even on the sushi side, definitely not the place to go if you want a quiet dinner. read more

My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant for many years. It is under new management and the quality of the sushi is way down and prices are higher. Sushi rice is low quality and overlooked. California rolls had off plasticky taste. Miso soup is bland. Service was good. We will not be going back. I was just there last nite,i had teppan and the teppan cheff a short asian guy came out wayy tooo fast didnt even give me time to enjoy myself he also was overly too loud . go see the american sushi cheff at the sushi bar . wonderfull ..... i wish i sat at the sushi bar instead last nite....but over all a great place to go have sushi .. even if you have to wait because they are buzzy on the sushi side besides your going out to relax and have a good time not to rush threw eveything. a must you all have to go there..... read more

My girl and I had been traveling all over Texas for a week or so and were tired of filling up on bbq and steak. We wanted something a bit different and figured teppan grill dining would fill that void. While traveling back to Cali we stopped in Flagstaff for one night and found Teppan Fuji via iphone. My girl had the chicken and shrimp dinner and I had the teriyaki steak and some ahi tuna sushi. Of course, with teppan grill dining, you get all the sides - fried rice, shrimp sample, grilled veggies, soup, and salad. They were all outstanding! The teppan chef was fun and entertaining. Of all the meals we had on our trip through TX, AZ, & NM I think this might have been the most pleasing. We had a nice wide variety of dishes and flavors in a pleasant atmosphere with great service. The tuna sushi was fresh and clean tasting and we both very much enjoyed our experience there. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable. read more
