I've tried most of the Mexican Restaurants in The Villages area and finally found the one I like. I tried the location 3 years ago before it changed hands and put it on the list of no need to go back but Friday night was the 1st time I tried it since it came under new ownership. A buddy came down from Tennessee looking for some Mexican food so I thought I'd try Tequila Cantina since I couldn't recommend the others I've tried. Atmosphere - Just OK. The tables booths are incredibly crowded. As a result, the restaurant is extremely noisy. Service - Poor. Nearly 2 hours had passed from the point when we were seated and when we were given a check. We had no appetizers and simple entrees! Food - Very good. I had the Enchiladas Supreme. It was served hot and it was very good. Overall - I would recommend dining on a weekday or at an early or later time. The kitchen clearly cannot handle busy evenings. read more

I am so torn how to rate a restaurant when service is bad, but food is good. We arrived on a Saturday at 6:45 and they said a 15 minute wait. We only waited 20 minutes and were seated. The next problem was that we waited 15 minutes before a server came and took our drink order. Someone else dropped off chips and salsa when we were first seated. The salsa was fairly hot and the chips were great. The menu is extensive and I settled on the tri-colored enchiladas. There was supposed to be a chicken, cheese and ground beef but mine showed up all beef. Since we had waited so long, I didn't complain, but would have preferred a variety. The enchiladas were good as was the rice. Service was lousy. We had asked for mild salsa and never got it and never got drink refills. read more

Sadly not the Tequila Cantina it used to be I used to love Tequila Cantina and it was one of my favorite Mexican spots, but my recent visit was extremely disappointing. I went on a Friday around 4 PM for an early dinner and the restaurant was mostly empty, so we expected good service. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and entrees, and everything came out at the exact same time. After the food arrived, we were essentially ignored for the rest of the visit. We never received basic things like water refills, napkins, more salsa, or even takeout boxes despite asking multiple times. The queso fundido was especially bad. It was microwaved to the point it was hard like cement, had burnt sausage on top, and was completely inedible. We tried to send it back several times but were ignored each time. The most frustrating part was waiting over an hour just to get our checks, even after asking multiple staff members for help. It felt like we were completely forgotten. This used to be a go to place for me, so it is really disappointing to see such a decline in both food quality and service. I am not sure if management has changed, but something is definitely off. I hope they can turn things around, but based on this experience I cannot recommend it right now. read more

This is one of our go to spots when visiting family in The Villages when traveling to Florida. They often have a short wait for a table but it's worth it. Portions on the burritos are huge and delicious. Not inexpensive but not over the top either. Dinner for 6 of us was around $120 before tip. read more

As you will see, most reviews here talk about the horrible service- waiting and waiting for someone to wait on you and they're correct- unless you ask for Emba. She is amazing. Until we had her, we were thinking about finding another Mexican restaurant. We are now regulars, thanks to her. We ask for her as soon as we walk in! She checks on you frequently whereas the other servers take your order then disappear. We are super upset that she will no longer be working Saturdays, so we are changing the night we visit. Jose is also good, but Emba is the star of Tequila. Hey Caesar- take good care of Emba because good help is hard to find and she runs circles around those other servers. DO NOT go here. Service was terrible. Wait staff is rude. Not friendly at all. I asked for a salad with ranch dressing. (The only one I liked out of the three they offered). When food arrived I was given MAYONNAISE. Sorry I don't want mayonnaise with my salad. When I finally tracked down a server they brought me another mayonnaise. I told them I couldn't eat the salad so please take it away, and to take it off my bill. So, I sat there waiting for my party to finish their meal and not eating anything. Then the check came sure enough that salad (that I didn't eat) was still on the bill. Happy Mother's Day lunch to me! Thank you for ruining my day. Service was not good. We waited so long for our food to come out I wasn't even hungry anymore. My order came out wrong. I was going to send it back but my family decided to just keep it for left overs later. The server did not care at all that the order was wrong or took so long. Never once checked on us or offered to refill drinks. On my way out the door another server dang near slapped me in the face with stack of menus that I had to dodge. We tried the Margaritas of course, and they were well prepared, strong, but not so strong that spills take the varnish off the table. The menu ranges from modern takes of Mexican cuisine like Elote Mexicana (street corn), to the standby chips and salsa which were fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of kick. Tacos, Burritos, Fajitas. Your typical options. We tried a couple of the mains, and were not necessarily memorable, but were good and satisfying. The Margaritas were ok but they look fun with an umbrella lol Although friendly, we were there on Christmas Eve, and the place was filled with a couple of large parties, and almost every other table/booth were full. Service was a bit slow at times, but that can be expected given how busy they were. When the server was able to attend to us, they were friendly and helpful. Earlier in the week, I got takeout for my family and myself, three bites in, I crunch down on a pistachio shell. Nowhere on the menu do they have anything with pistachios. Trying to wrap my brain around why and how this could have happened, the next day I went in person. I spoke with two different people. Neither one acted concerned in any way they just shrug their shoulders said they don't know how this could have happened. There was no explanation. There was no refund. There was no concern. I said to them, so someone making my food was eating pistachios at the same time and a shell went into my food, they literally just shrugged their shoulders and said nothing. The chorizo was tasty, just not mixed with eggs, as I'm used to and while I wouldn't order it again, it was done well. Our Second visit to the tequila Cantina in the villages. Just as we expected, there was plenty of parking in the area, it was a warm day, so we decided to eat inside: Air Conditioning was working great, lots of booths available, and we were seated quickly. The server brought chips and salsa to the table and we each had a margarita, on the rocks with salt. My wife opted for the fajita lunch special, and I chose the enchiladas rancheras. I can only give an opinion on my portion of the lunch because there was so much food. I never got a chance to try any of her fajitas! The enchiladas rancheras platter consisted of two cheese enchiladas, refried beans, and Mexican rice. The two cheese enchiladas were covered with stewed pork, and in my opinion, the pork was the highlight of the entire meal; very flavorful and tender. Of course the refried beans and Spanish rice complement of this well. A small lettuce salad on the platter was well covered with guacamole and sour cream. Server attention was adequate, at various points in the meal we asked for some additional salsa, take away containers, and a bag for carrying them: all requests were filled responsibly. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for the last 1.5 years. We went back on Jan 2nd, which was about 6 mos after our last visit. It was terrible. Food was terrible and service was terrible. The waiter handed us our menus and asked for our order. We slowed him down enough to get the table side guacamole, which I will say was very good. They served my burrito with the pico on the Inside. I have never seen that at any Mexican restaurant that I have been to. Flavor overall was sub par. If I could leave a half or quarter star I would. Was there 11/29/25 (Saturday evening around 5:30pm) It was not packed. We ordered drinks & they were wrong. The waiter never came back, he was too busy running drinks from the bar, so we flagged down a waitress & she said it wasn't her table. 15mins later he finally showed up to take our order, when our food came to the table, it was wrong not what we ordered.
