Whenever we travel to North Carolina we stop at our favorite seafood restaurant called Bay Breeze. It is quite a large place with lots of tables and booths they even have a banquet room for large events. The decor is like a fishing village with beautiful murals. The menu is extensive with all different varieties of seafood You can order fried, broiled and low country boil seafood. The portions are large and you can even share without a charge. The help is very friendly and eager to please. Our waitress,. Caroline was excellent and even put my bib on for the seafood boil. I ordered the seafood bisque for starters and it was so good and I highly recommend it.My main meal was a shrimp boil which came in a plastic bag with 20 large shrimp, corn on the cob, red potatoes and sausage that was a little spicy but very good. I highly recommend the seafood boils you can even get crab legs. Real old school place - good food and service - not in my restaurant rotation but - I'll be back - my mom likes it

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Hendersonville area needs our help in a major way. While I am not sure the status of this restaurant at the time of this writing, what damage they may have sustained, or in general what their status will be... I can say that when I ate here with wife's family last time I visited, it was clear this restaurant is an important place for the community. You've never met a more caring staff. Regardless of the restaurant being so large, it seemed like many knew the customers by name. They were so good to the young children in our group, and patient with all families, that you just have to be impressed and commend them. They have a huge menu, basically any way you could possibly want seafood, they can do it for you. They also have plenty of selection for "landlubbers" to suit the non-seafood pallette. I got one of their weekly Saturday specials for jumbo shrimp and grouper. I greatly enjoyed the plump shrimp and the big piece of fish I was served. I felt the sides could all use a little work, outside of the cole slaw, which was spot on. My fried okra was not very crispy, and I thought the hushpuppies were just OK. But, I came for the fish, and since it was great... paired with the excellent service, this place deserves a five. I hope they are able to recover, along with all the businesses in Hendersonville, Asheville, and our other mountain communities. The road may be long, but we'll endure it. read more

The rude hostess told me my 5 pound service dog had to sit on the floor and then she was rude to my friends that had hone back to the table. I will never eat there again and will tell everyone I know that the hostess, maybe someone in charge of the place, was so rude and definitely not professional. read more

Our family tries to visit Bay Breeze each time we're in the Hendersonville area. For the quality & portions, it's a great value. The service this past time was EXCELLENT. Very nice place to eat wonderful place to eat . Although we have ate there a lot and never had bad service . This past Friday we did have the worst service we have ever experienced, no tea refills even after our waitress noted that we were empty , until all our food was almost gone . Then warm tea and no ice , promised ice right back that never happened. We finished and stocked plates and waited for our ticket . Knowing we had to leave because of cargo we had . Waitress was back and forth but would never stop she circulated with others , we got up and went to the desk to pay . They found our ticket and cashed us out . read more

I must begin with my circumstances: I have a complete dairy intolerance, so I wasn't sure a seafood restaurant would be able to accommodate my situation, but our waiter was extremely courteous, and even double-checked my order of broiled Jumbo Shrimp, just to make sure it was cooked with oil and not butter (because it *smelled* so delicious and buttery!). It was splendid, as were my friends' Popcorn Shrimp PoBoy and Fried Flounder. I'll have to take their word for it, as all fried items (with the exception of French Fries) have dairy components. Good food and great service. The hush puppies shaped like onion rings were excellent! For dessert they had fresh apples from a local orchard, sliced into rings and coated in a sweet batter and fried, served with ice cream. Delicious! We were there nearly 2 weeks ago before the terrible weather hit from Hurricane Helene. I hope this restaurant wasn't damaged. We love Bay Breeze! 2nd time we've eaten here since they reopened after Helene. Both times the sweet potatoes were not hot enough to melt the butter. They were very well done, and the skin was crispy and nearly black. They are very small and there is a $1 up charge for them. I ordered the salmon M-W and it came out well/dry. The coleslaw was room temp. We don't mind paying the higher prices but they will have to make sure the food is top-notch to keep people coming! read more

My wife's salmon was average at best. Hush puppies were the best part of the meal. I'm not a seafood person, so asked specific questions about the burger and fries I ordered. They don't serve a half pound burger cooked to order (as was told); they serve two smashed pieces of meat that were overcooked. Ordered plain and arrived smothered in lettuce which left an aftertaste when scraped off. Asked if fries were "plain, with no coatings," and told yes - but no, they serve crappy, coated fries and that's what came out. When someone is explicit about what they want and it falls this short, it's a major fail. I've been missing good seafood in western North Carolina, but I was very satisfied with my broiled grouper lunch at Bay Breeze. I had loaded potato soup, hush puppies, and cheesy grits included in my meal, all for less than $19 total! Service from Victoria was prompt, friendly, and thorough. The hostess/cashier was not friendly, did not smile, and didn't thank me. I would have loved to have ordered one of the delicious-looking desserts in the glass case, but I'll have to try one next time. Excellent variety of beautiful cakes! read more

Bay Breeze is our local seafood restaurant. It's been here "forever" so I love it for that. And with a variety of unique lunch items and daily specials, it's very popular with the locals and the tourists. For myself, I think it's a bit overpriced, if you don't mind driving to Spartanburg or Forest City. Otherwise, considering it's the only choice here, the prices are comparative to other local restaurants. The food is excellent with one exception. The oysters. I love oysters and it's just plain sad that their oysters taste extremely muddy. There is another local place to get an oyster basket with clean, sweet oysters. Guess you'll need to look for my review to find that info. So I ate there yesterday, couldn't resist ordering the oysters for a $6.00 upcharge and was disappointed with the taste. But the popcorn shrimp was awesome! The fried okra, yummy. Hush puppies are hush puppies but these are ring shaped slaw, ok but I wouldn't order it if it didn't just come with the meal. I will say this if anyone in charge from the restaurant reads this: find a better distributor for the oysters. And stop watering down the tarter & cocktail sauces. That's just yoo cheap and they do nothing goid for the food when using them, except bring the taste down. read more

It should have beens so much better. The ambiance is no more inviting than the basic Long John Silver's, or your local Senior Citizen's Bargain Buffet. But okay...that aside, the food was pretty good. I have to admit that when the waitress set down the bowl of hush puppies, I really thought they were onion rings--but she corrected me, and honestly? They were DELICIOUS. Seriously, I could have made a meal out of these scrumptious pups. I also had the stuffed flounder, which was wonderful! My husband had the salt & pepper catfish, which was also so amazing I wished I had gotten that...or not. They were both awesome. I think my main issue is that a restaurant that specializes in seafood (even if most of the selections are fried) should have a really good tartar sauce. Really, that sauce should be extra special and memorable. It should be flavorful enough to complement the seafood. But Bay Breeze's tarter sauce is bad enough to have colored my whole meal. First of all it's served in a huge squirt bottle like ketchup. The texture is watery and the flavor is so bland that we were forced to ask the waitress for tartar sauce, because we were not sure exactly what this stuff was. (I'm not trying to be snarky here--we really did ask her.) I mean...is this....what? Watery mayonnnaise with some chopped pickles? Or what? Really...the tartar sauce should have been so good, but it was just awful. So what else can I say. If you like fried fish and yummy hush puppies in a school-lunch-type cafeteria atmosphere, Bay Breeze is your place. Just bring your own tartar sauce. read more

When visiting NC we stayed at the sapphire valley resort. My family was looking for a great seafood restaurant for our entire group of 16 for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. We ended up driving 1 hour from the resort to eat at Bay Breeze. It was worth every mile. The restaurant was understaffed and yet the service was speedy and unaffected for us. Our server Lilyanna, couldn't have done a better job. We made sure that she was compensated fairly for dealing with a rowdy crowd with a $100 Tip. Me and 8 other women went here one evening for dinner and from the moment we sat down until the moment we left, we felt the vibe. The owner or manager walked over to our table, only our table, and said "If you GIRLS get rowdy in here... you'd better invite me". No one thought it was funny and instead we noted it as a micro aggression. The food was subpar. I ordered the Alex special and the fried fish that came with it was quite hard to chew. Wow! We stopped here for the first time and we were craving some good seafood. With all of the cars in the parking lot, we felt it must be good. The smell of food as we e entered the restaurant let us know for sure that we were in for a treat. My wife Kathey got a salad to start with while I chose a cup of seafood bisque. It was thick and creamy and loaded with chunks of seafood. The flavor was fantastic! Definitely the best seafood bisque I have ever had. Following that, Kathey got the Maryland style crab cakes with a baked sweet potato and some hush puppies. I opted for the stuffed flounder with sweet potato fries and some hush puppies (shaped like onion rings). Everything was so good, so flavorful and lots of food on the plate. Should have been better. Drove for over an hour to eat there. The food for my daughter and I was raw. Sent it back and waited a long time. Never offered to reheat our potato or hush puppies. The lady was very nice and wanted us to be happy. This was not a good day for this business. Forgot to tell about the burnt baked potato. The folks who work here are attentive and friendly. However, the food is not that great. Coconut shrimp was undercooked on the inside. The kids flounder plate was rubbery and definitely didn't taste fresh made. I'm from Maryland, and I can vouch that the Maryland crabcakes we're far from it. They were chewy and bready. The catfish was thick and juicy but the fried coating was not crisp at all. There was nothing notable about the hush puppies. The seafood bisque was thick and gloopy The best thing was the side dish vegetables. They were perfectly steamed and we ate them all. Things sure have changed since I've been here. Expect to wait on a table and the hostesses not knowing who was their first as they don't take names. They only put down the number of people. Well when you've been waiting you lose count of who is first...especially when there are large parties being seated before you. When I asked if they take names, one of the hostesses replied "we take people in order on the wall". If you are with someone who can't stand and needs help to get to and from, the bench offered is where you sit. No true organized effort. Luckily when the number of people was called out, a man "on the wall" said we could go first as the girl said "I don't care which one". Even though the young hostesses didn't care enough to ask for names and not care who was first, middle or last, a nice gentleman took care of that for them. Regarding the waitress...she was quick to greet and bring drinks. Our food came before we got any silverware to eat it with. Supposedly they ran out. Our waitress was very apologetic and rushed to get us some when "she" didn't bring them soon after our food arrived. Everything else was good. I did not expect to see a seafood restaurant in the foothills of North Carolina, but here we are. I ordered the stuffed flounder. It was pretty good, but a little too soft for my liking thus the reason for one less star; however, I would order it again. We ate at Bay Breeze tonight to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. Our waitress was Kristy. There were 16 of us. She kept food coming and drinks refilled without asking. Super great and super sweet. I am giving Bay Breeze 1 star bc our server was very good. We had a bad experience in April this year and decided to try again couple weeks ago. The fish was dry and tasted stale. I ordered broiled salmon and asked for it to be "not well done". It came dry and hard. I couldn't eat it. I was asked at checkout if everything was OK and I told them about the salmon. It turns out to my surprise that it was "my fault" for not telling my server so she could bring me something different. We waited half an hour for our food so I was not going to sit with nothing while everyone else at the table was eating. An apology would have been enough, an explanation would have been better. We had lunch at Bay breeze this past week as part of a large room going to the flat rock Playhouse. it was in a good place to have lunch as it is only 10 minutes away from the Playhouse. We enjoyed the food. I had fried shrimp and grouper. My wife had fish tacos. We both thought the meals were good. The service was excellent also. Especially, considering we were a group of 50. I can only review the shrimp, because I get it every time I go there. Great big fried jumbo shrimp, awesome popcorn shrimp. Comes with hushpuppies and fries/baked potato and slaw. Love this place. I usually get takeout and they ate fast. Make sure your only 10 minutes away before you call in your order they are that fast. read more
