I've been coming here for many years and I only get by here 2-3 times a year. If nothing else this place is consistent. Food is consistently excellent....no complaints here....this is the reason I keep coming back. Service is consistently sub-par and very poor. While everyone is friendly, the staff are not attentive to say the least. Most of the staff are texting and surfing on their cell phone and hiding in the corners. They have enough staff but they always seem distracted or not paying attention to their customers. Maybe they need an actual manager providing some oversight. I hope they fix this (it's been years and they haven't) because this place could be great. read more

My husband and I went Friday as I've been craving some Mexican food! We loved that they brought out chips and three different types of dip. The chips were great; all dips lacked flavor and were generally bland. I did La Tradicional for a margarita and was surprised by how it lacked any flavor whatsoever. Never have I had a margarita that tasted like nothing, not even a hint of lime. We both got fajitas. I did chicken and my husband chicken and steak. Maybe because we're picky, but these were such tiny pieces of meat, not what we would normally get in fajitas. They were flavorful, but not what we expected. The guacamole served with my husbands fajitas was brown as can be and should not have been given to anyone. We would have said something, but our waitress never came by to check on us and just dropped the check off after we were waiting for it. Never asked if we wanted dessert either. Struggling to write this review. Food was good but wow the service and workers were awful. Cinco de Mayo, yes it's a busy day but it did not come into affect on all the issues. Earlier today (around 2:00) I called asking if they take reservations, a man answered and said "not today" and instantly hung up. Whatever but still came. The host was very sweet and brought us to our table. The menu was a limited menu and the prices were jacked up as well compared to their normal menu, just by a dollar or so. Our server came up and we did have a language barrier but tried to work through it. She messed up our meal three times. We were a party of two and she did not write down anything for what we ordered. She messed up our drinks twice, my friend was given a drink she did not ask for and they played it off as it was. We got a margarita for $15.50 for it being in a small plastic cup. For food, I asked for a small modification (take a topping off) and that was also forgotten. They did bring it back, scrape it off and added more sauce to not see. My chimichanga and my friends fajitas were good but I don't think they were worth the multiple mess ups and the price charged. Tough time. read more

This was great find on a Saturday night. Didn't expect it to be in a plaza, but low and behold ... the plaza has other cuisine options, just in case. Tequila is small, modern, yet flashes of culture decorate this establishment. But don't expect the traditional chips and salsa, no. You get a trio of dips: tomatillo, Chipotle, and a roasted house blend. None are too think, save the chipotle; and the chips are not salty either. So, a great start to the evening. We sat at the bar (which I personally love), so drinks were prompt and delicious. We order the Espresso Martini, for her, and I asked for an extra spicy margarita to start. The martini was on point, and the spicy margarita hit those notes that I adore, just the right amount of punch to get my taste buds going. I wasn't hungry, so she ordered the Diego Tacos, based off the recommendation of the bartender. The chicken was good, but if you're used to grilled, make sure you ask. It came with Mexican rice and refried beans, but you can sub in black beans and white rice (we later discovered). To finish off the night I order the margaritas flight - 3 of their choices, which all had their own unique taste. One was guaca, one had maple syrup (don't knock it til you try it), and one had mezcal (another favorite of mine, the smokiness is just killer). The guava was too sweet, but I'd hit up the mezcal margarita eight days a week. 4 out of 5 stars, only because I had to keep flagging down the bartender to order. read more

We went there with a large group of women. We were seated promptly, after setting up a reservation. We are ordered drinks, one app, and order main dishes as well. The food came really quickly. The drinks did too. We had everything from a glass of red wine to a frozen pomegranate margarita. All the drinks were great as well. It was a busy Friday night, and we noticed just a tad of service lacking. Going to try and make this shot and sweet. This restaurant was recommended by a friend of mine. Had a sangria at the bar while trying to decide what to order for take-out. A nice little tray of dipping sauces and nachos were placed before us. The bar had a clean orderly look that made me feel comfortable. The bartender was nice and friendly and make some recommendations to us. The drinks, I had a sangria, and nachos were delicious. I ordered shrimp fajitas to go which turned out to be exceptionally good and fresh tasting, not to mention plentiful. It came with beans, rice, fresh mushrooms, onions, and peppers in a nice light sauce. The other two orders that were included in the take-out were just as superb. I am very picky when it comes to restaurant food since I consider myself a great cook, but I can honestly say this food was amazingly good. It had the right amount of spices and authentically cooked. Let's just say, it tasted like it was made with love. Will be going back there for more, very soon. Forgot to mention, this restaurant is located in a strip mall. Don't let that deter you. The Doña Maria Enchiladas which were stuffed with tinga, topped with mole sauce, crema, queso fresco and escabeche onions We also had the Poblanas Enchiladas which were stuffed with tinga, topped with creamy poblano salsa, corn, queso fresco, slices of poblano peppers & avocado. Finally, the bacon shrimp tacos which had melted jack cheese, bacon shrimp, caramelized onions, pico de gallo, queso fresco & avocado and chipotle crema. My personal favorite was the Doña Maria Enchiladas but that is just because I lovea good mole sauce (my boyfriend has taught me well!) For dessertwe had the churros and the tres leches bread pudding. The churros were cooked to perfection and came with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream The bread pudding was covered in tres leches and also came with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream. We were greeted by our server Ricardo with the chips and different sauces. For the drinks we ordered CocoRita and MangoRita. Once the drinks were served we ordered the dinner. For dinner we started with the Grande Sampler, Ench Poblanas, Chicken Fajita, Pollo Oaxca, Chimi Dinner and Chilaquiles. Everything here is just a little bit more flavorful and elevated- the drinks menu is thoughtfully put together, with premium options highlighted. The pre-dinner tortilla chips are offered with 3 different dipping sauces, and guac is available to be made fresh table side. My wife and I are plant based eaters, and while this is usually not a problem with Mexican cuisine, it gets tricky in the suburbs. That's not the case here- not only were our requirements accommodated, there were numerous options on the menu which we could order just as is. The food has always been fresh and pretty tasty. Staff were attentive and the margaritas were fine. We had the enchiladas Classico in a red sauce and the Maui tacos were lovely, with chicken caramelized onions cilantro and a crema sauce. Refried beans in their own taco shell were yum and a mound of seasoned yellow rice complemented the plates really well. I love the food served at Tequila's. I usually go to the one in North Chelmsford. This time I wanted to try the Wakefield location. Don't let its location fool you. It's in a little shopping plaza. It actually made the parking much easier. From the outside you just wouldn't think that this delicious food would be served there. The ambiance includes portraits of Frida and sugar skulls. The menu is pretty extensive along with alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. They start you off with complimentary chips and three different salsas/dip. The creamy chipotle one is my favorite. I really can't get enough of it. The empanadas tradicionales are overly stuffed with ground meat as they should and are topped with cortija cheese. The quesadilla birria is out of this world with a little side of consume for dipping. I could have it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. For delicious Mexican food, I recommend it. read more

Otherwise this place is NOT kid friendly if yours don't do well with spicy (no mild salsa available and their beans have too much kick). Or if you care about food safety: COLD rice. Slow don't really give a crap service, forgettable sometimes gross food - don't order their soggy, disgusting ancho wings - and laughable cleanliness. The table was dirty when we sat down, the busser held all our waters by the rims of all our glasses and then dragged her arm and hair over the top of them. I read another review about the reused salsa and am inclined to agree. One star because they were pretty solid pre-covid. Tonight my wife placed a phone order to Tequila's Mexican Cantinaand, along with her meal, ordered beef tacos for me. She arrived home with fish tacos. Mistakes and other glitches happen. Typically, no big deal and I called Tequila's Mexican Cantina. The exceptionally loud background noise made it difficult to hear him. However, what I heard him clearly say was he heard an order for fish tacos. I do not eat fish and I was stood next to my wife when the order was placed. The restaurant did offer to replace it, and I could come down and pick it up. Not able... I know exactly what was ordered; certainly, not fish tacos. Maybe having a quieter location to take orders would help. More so, don't tell the customer the error was on them. When I make a mistake I'll stand there and let you know. We came Friday, July 6 for lunch. There weren't many patrons in there which was fine. We were greeted sweetly by the hostess who knew my hubby. And then sat at a comfortable booth. Our waitress was very nice as well. We opted to just try a couple appetizers as lunch and of course had a couple of margaritas. Apps: Ancho Chili Wings - so good, spicy but not the kind that keeps building where you cant keep eating! lol Then we had the Sopes, a thick tortilla fried and topped with beans, pulled chicken, cheese and all the rest of the typical toppings. Very good, the Sope could have used a tiny bit of salt, but otherwise was good. The table salsas and dips to go with the chips were very good. We loved the green chili one the best. But there was also your typical red salsa and then a sour cream smoky type dip as well that was tasty. Great food and tasty Mexican cuisine considering we're in the Northeast! We got some margs - wish the jalapeño one was spicier but loved the glasses they were served in. They serve complimentary chips and salsa ( a trio of salsa), which to my disappointment none was really flavorful. I am comparing to Mexican food in Texas (which is the best. We didn't have a large dinner so we just got the al pastor quesadilla and the ceviche - both were delicious and flavorful. We added jalapeños on the quesadilla and we got charged (no heads up, which was a bummer) The only thing that bugged me about the ceviche was that it was served in a flat plate so wasn't easily dippable but was tasty regardless! Highly recommend. Ordered bread pudding for dessert but wouldn't order again - nothing special. They had outdoor seating available in the parking lot and patio seating and servers were following mask protocol. However, they do use regular menus - not sure how often these are cleaned wiped down. We did see the workers cleaning down the chairs and table as customers left (not sure it was cleaned thoroughly, but I can appreciate the effort!) Tequilas was delish - we will be back!
