My Ukrainian friend & coworker recommended this place to me as I am unfamiliar with the culture & cuisine but I really love dadu desserts & snacks. I usually went to Beryozka in Rocklin because I used to work in Roseville but this place is closer to home, carries much more variety, has hot food, & better desserts I believe. The service is super friendly and although I don't speak the language, the ladies understand English and are always kind/polite - I hope to keep coming back to try the different foods/meats. I picked up a package of vanilla that was clearly marked with a price of $1.59. When I later checked my receipt, I noticed I was charged $4.77, as if it were three separate packages. When I asked about this, I was told it was because the package contained three items. I explained that the price shown was $1.59, not $4.77. I tried to resolve the issue, but the cashiers said they could not exchange the item or take it back and that it could only be handled by a manager , even though I had not left the store and was there the entire time. What felt especially unpleasant was being told that it was my fault for picking up that package. I'm not going to spend a lot of time over $3, but the situation was disappointing. The smoked pork fat, hands down the best I have ever tasted, and I've sampled my fair share. Perfect smoky taste, rich and soft. The crepes with cottage cheese and meat are total winners too, thin, warm crepes filled with creamy tvorog and delicious well-seasoned meat. Nice kabobs. Chebureks are okay. Russian food selection is pretty decent, from teas to candy to baked goods and sausages. Service is fairly quick. The variety of food products is good, but the customer service should be better. When we entered the store, my husband asked the first store assistant if they had public restroom. I guess she didn't understand him, so I translated to Russian. She said - Yes. ..and turned away. We just wanted for her to show us which direction to go, but she noticed our confusion and got frustrated. The young female store assistant left a snarly comment in Russian. Something like whether she should personally accompany us to the restroom. We are paying customers, but we're left with bitter aftertaste. read more

Let me say that this store has most affordable bbq in the city and it's pretty good BUT only chicken. Lamb is 20 out of 100 not gonna lie. However, their customer service completely sucks there is this lady all serious kgb looking hairstyle, and she thinks is the boss, she is very rude and has the face like that over something. I bought some barbecue chicken, and since I was going to put it into the truck so it won't make a smell, I ask her to double bag it. Since she is very smart and think she knows everything she decided not to double bag it. I asked her: why didn't you double bagged my chicken and with this rude voice, again she said there's nothing to double bag it. She threw a bag on the counter top and left. Came here yesterday, cute little store packed full of fun things that I wished oh so much were not ALL expired. The only three things I ended up buying from here are hot chocolate (you know, the kind you had as a kid in Russia,) two "petyshok" lollipops, and a pirojok with mashed potatoes and muchrooms. I don't know what I was thinking when I looked at the expiration date (10 1 10) that was in Jan not october! but whatever, its powder, it will be just fine. I REALLY wanted to get some chocolates (belochka) but they expired back in 2008, most of the spice packets for things such as meats and poultry were also expired. I got excited about "kisel'" powder, but that was expired as well. The pirojok was okay, but definitely not very exciting. I will probably come back and give this place a second chance, hopefully when they get new products. read more

Every time I thought that people were just tired, but I understand that this is a lack of understanding of how to communicate with customers. Everyone is very slow and rude at the checkout. My parents have been buying the frozen pelmeni (homemade in store) and grains here for a few years. Last night, we got all the catering for our NYE dinner here for the first time and it was A-MAZING!! So impressed with the quality of food. Don't tell my grandma, but their "holodets" is my favorite! Don't get me started on their dessert. We had the sour cream honey cake and it was out of this world! I don't often eat cake because I'm not a huge sweets fan but this cake may have just turned me! Super moist with real honey flavor. Vatrushkas are also excellent. I am sad I live hours away but I will definitely be stopping in whenever I am in the area. read more

If you are a fan of Eastern European foods like I am, then this is the place for you. I have travelled in Russia, and I have Russian, Ukrainian, and Slovakian friends. Teremok was recommended by the Ukrainian medical assistant at my doctor's office. I mentioned to her how much I loved shashlik, and she insisted that I try Teremok's. The place is awesome. The staff was really helpful. This is important because most of their signs are in Russian. We chose the lamb shashliks, and added a side of flavoured rice. The meat was perfectly cooked, and the spices in the rice worked well to add to the enjoyment of the meat. The pricing is incredible. Two lamb shashliks and the side of rice for $22. Give it a try. The plov and kebabs are the two things that bring me in here. Last time we al so tried the freshly smoked salmon they had. The lady was so nice brought out all the different pieces that they had in the back so I could pick out the one I liked best. I also really like their pastry with the raisins. mmm. I love this place! I want to live in the Russia that this store embodies. They have the best selection of high quality Russian and Ukrainian kvass I've ever seen. I found every type of sprat that I wanted to try. They have all the best meats and cheeses from Russia. They offer all the speciality Russian candies and sweets. The smell of the fresh grilled meat and smoked salmon was intoxicating. The people working here are golden. The woman behind the counter was an angel. They are the nicest people. I usually go to different Russian stores (good neighbor and MnM in Antelope) but this one was on my way from the piano lesson so I decided to Stop by. My experience there was upsetting to say the least. The vibe of the store is somewhat stiffening with a touch of good old hoarding. The store is small but it just stuffed with merchandise to the point people can't get around. By the time I got to cashier I had a long line behind me. The cashier was either tiered or just had a bad day and didn't mind taking it out on others. She didn't make eye contact and was very short with customers. I asked to cut half a salami, she agreed but actually she just cut the whole piece all the way to the end without telling me. I saw the price was high but because the line was so long with kids in it I didn't want to take anyone's time. I did feel like I was cheated by the store. Never again will I go there!!! read more

I love this place! The people there are great! They have a pretty good selection of groceries, and a a tasty selection of cured meats and sausages. Don't forget the baked goods. On weekends they have the best kebab and plov out back on their covered patio. A plate comes with kebab, plov, bread, and homemade pickles. Grab some drinks from inside the store, and relax under the patio while watching Russian television. English is not the first language spoken by most of the employees. We went for a cake here for New Years , while I was waiting in the car for my wife to complete the purchase a bunch of other customers kept coming in and out with there purchases , while they held my wife in line for 40 minutes and they cashed out other customers . My wife said they ignored her and took other customers who paid with cash , and ignored the ones with cards . Even though we were ahead of everyone else . I don't know but is it legal to ignore people paying with cards so that you can checkout people paying with cash first ? read more
