I didn't know there was a wonderful Indian grocery store in that plaza. It makes me so happy- my favorite things were in the store. Dosa mix, muruku snack, instant dal, butter chicken mix and more... Prices seem to fluctuate between cashiers. Unfortunately, it's the only place I've found this particular item--so I pay between $4.99 & $5.99 Cashier even had the audacity to scan the item, which came up as $4.99 then deleted and manually inputted $5.99 Scandalous! read more

They have a very condensed store with a large variety of food. They offer many spices, snacks, frozen foods, sweets, vegetables, and more. But each time I come I realize I have to be careful to check the dates on items we buy. Many of the frozen foods are past their best buy dates, also spices are. And I also purchased some Dass Sweets from the refrigerated section, and when I took them home I found mold on them (very sad). Sadly it did not have a date on the box, so I didn't know. So as long as you shop carefully and read the dates on what you buy, you'll be fine. It is frustrating though to have to pick through items even more diligently than you should have to. As for service, everyone has been nice. I have lately seen mainly a lady at the front, and she was friendly. read more

Listen folks, shop no where else! Desi is an otherwise small looking Indian grocer as you approach the door. Once inside, place is huge! I was immediately greeted by Preeti (sp) who was multitasking but made herself available, answered questions, encouraged me to ask more if necessary, and quickly got the items I was looking forward (I would have gladly retrieved them myself but as I was asking her foot were moving!). Desi has a vast variety of candies, packaged chips, crackers, nuts and other snacks, refrigerated and frozen section, fresh produce, bulk rice, beans (like the huge sacks you'd see at Restaurant Depot), toiletries, jarred sauces both sweet and savory, and the biggest variety of beans and herbs and spices I've even seen. Who know about Nigerian black beans? Well I do now, thanks to Desi! I was on the hunt for mango powder, chole masala, tamarind paste and rice flower. Desi had them all, yay! One challenge is many of the shelved items aren't tagged so you'd have to ask for pricing but otherwise, Desi near instantly became my favorite specialty store. A word unrelated to my awesome, can't wait to go back shopping experience. I want to encourage the Yelp community to shop your local international stores for exotic goods if possible. If you're like me and began heavily relying on Amazon for speciality goods over the last two years, I left some items in my cart and decided to try and find the goods locally. This not only helps keep our neighborhood businesses open, while being lighter on our wallets. Reading through these reviews it appears there is a baffling, concerted effort to keep the overall rating low for Desi; however, I have been shopping here for the past decade and my experience has consistently been fantastic. This is an incredible Indian market. I've tried dozens of Indian/Asian grocery markets around the Sacramento region, and Desi is head and shoulders above them all. Here's why: hands down the best selection and most variety (literally anywhere), the best and most expansive fresh vegetable/fruit section, fresh sweets/desserts/snacks, huge bulk foods section, fantastic frozen food and dairy sections, extremely friendly/helpful...they even sell live curry trees! Every item is coded in their system so there is no manual entering of prices, and I've price-shopped key items elsewhere: Desi is easily the same or cheaper. This is a destination store so everything is fresh and new as well - I've never had a single issue in 10 years (how many stores can you say that about?). Expansive, friendly, fresh and pleasant. You'd never know that a cornucopia of Indian food was in this nondescript corner suburban center. What a selection of ready-to-eat packaged foods! I often stock up here before we go camping. They have these great little foil meal deals where you can just heat up a stove of hot water, pop those babies in and voila, instant Indian! They also have a fantastic selection of refrigerated (hello mango lassi) and frozen foods. You can find the usual naan here, all different types of brands too. I like the fact that I can try out all different kinds of Indian food from the various regions. On Saturdays, they get a delivery of Indian sweets. What is nice is that you can purchase some by the pound. My daughter loves jalabi - not sure if I spelled that correctly. It is orange, and spirally with syrupy goodness. It is very reasonably priced! And what a selection of chutneys and pickles. Love it. They are not affiliated with the Indian restaurant next door. That surprised me as usually there is a neighborly connection - like the owners of a restaurant opened a store. I like the service at the store much more than the restaurant (you can see my review of Star of India). read more

I am a busy working mom and usually don't have time to give reviews but this is the Worst store I have visited so far in my life in US (been living since 15 plus years). Firstly I came to know about this from one of our neighbors, and blindly went without checking any reviews and now after buying so much stuff (made 280$ bill in one stop - blindly I bought in a rush due to Covid 19 restrictions, I bought more) and I realize later EVRYTHING WAS WAY MORE PRICIER than anywhere else, many of the snacks are EXPIRED and I saw after getting home, and then the veggies bought here got spoiled v fast, smelled awful. The Karela (Kakarakaya) when cut I find purple shade seeds - PFA picture, when I called to the store to inform, the person who picked the phone spoke ok for a few minutes, then he gave to another guy saying the manger and he was raising voice and talking like yelling, then I asked why are you raising voice, I called to give a feedback not complaint you or your store did as such but then also he was shouting like a village fellow saying you expect all of us to cut the veggies and check for you this and that....and that he was running 3 store, no one complained like this n that.........literally he was yelling onto me, v rude and harsh language he was using - totally un meaningful sentences......I have never faced a customer service or experience like this. I can tell more, but being a busy mom of 2 kids cant type more........V cheap behavior - I have a gut feeling he is the owner of the store. I TRULY WISH I READ REVIEWS BEFORE GOING TO THIS STORE. all negative reviews both on google and yelp. A v good lesson for me. Hope this review gets posted soon. read more

They have vegetables that South East Asian cuisine use! Green papaya, baby green mango, Chinese long green beans, Thai eggplant, bitter melon, and the more! A gem in addition to the meat market down the way. The only thing I wish they'd add to their shelves are south East Asian ingredients used in the cuisine like coconut cream, oyster sauce, fish sauce, etc to make Lao style papaya salad. I find fresh herbs like dill to make a Lao dill stew. Can't find lemongrass, kiefer or galanga their though. But I say the vegetables are a win 100%. read more

Should've read these reviews before shopping there. Things are DEFINITELY EXPIRED FOR OVER A YEAR. Basically everything we bought was expired and only found out when we got home. After reading other reviews, don't know if it will be worth the effort to go exchange. Also, they don't properly mark the prices of their products so you just end up getting ripped off at the register. I will definitely avoid this place in the future. read more

I bought a large pack of frozen mini samosas. Opened it next day to prepare & take to a party but there was mold all over it. Took it back to the store to request for a refund ($11:85) & owner was very rude about it. Told me complain to whomever you want to, not going to refund. I shop here a lot because they are close by. But only if I don't feel like driving too far. There is always a kid behind the counter watching YouTube videos. Never says hello or talks. I am giving 3 stars only because they have lot of products and there is a good variety. If you live in Fair Oaks or nearby, this seems to be the only option for Indian store. My main complaint is the store is not Covid-19 compliant. Store owner and his wife manage the store, their teenage kids running around the store without masks. People sitting in the cash counter wear mask only when the customer goes to the cash counter. I may go here again once covid-19 is gone, until then I need to find another place. read more

This is one of the best Indian groceries I've ever been in. I like the Indian grocery on Foothill in Roseville better, but that's not always convenient for me to get to. This place has it all AND on the weekends they have fresh snacks! They even have a selection of fresh produce, though it took me 3 trips before I dicovered it, back in the corner. I wish it was laid out a little better: not finding the produce happened because the store is sort of sectioned off with a rack of crisps! I thought it was an employee only area... It is a little overstocked and jumbled, but in a good way. I've never seen so many varieties of pickle, flours, and snacks and crisps! I go here frequently, it's great. read more

This place deserves 5 stars- only their prices aren't the best. They know there's no other indian stores nearby so they jack up the price a little; but they're still reasonable and they're good people. The one thing that really stands out about them is that they sell original-quality burned movies for $2. They don't sell you pirate copies. Yea, it's still breaking the law but at least they don't sell the movies until they are actually released. I appreciate that about this place. They are affiliated with the restaurant next door - Naan India Grill, which is the best halal indian buffet restaurant I've ever been to. Another downside is that they won't accept payment with a credit card unless you spend about $10. So, make sure you bring cash. Not sure if they apply the same rules with white people. read more

I love this place! It's all small and cute and it's really nice to have a convenient place to get products of this type nearby. My daughter loves to henna her hair, and they have henna here for a reasonable price. (You can buy henna in bulk from Denio's, but they're only open on weekends, etc...) Their selection is very good, however, about half of the hundreds of items do not have prices on them. There's no way to know before you put something into your cart how much it costs! After being disappointed in an Indian Store in Folsom, I decided to stop here and see if I could get the items that I had been looking for. I have to say, the greeting, the service and the amount of products available, were 180 degree difference than my experience in Folsom. As soon as I walked in the gentleman greeted me and asked if I was looking for something specific. When I told him what I was looking for he gladly walked me over to the area and he found the products for me! There was one popular item that they did not have because they were sold out. He advised me to come back next week on a certain day for when to expect the product to be in. Just because he not only helped me out, but provided me with a day to come back for when the other products will be available, that was beyond what he needed to do. For that alone, I will now continue to come here for all my Indian products. Why go elsewhere when I am treated better than I would have anywhere else. If you are looking for any Indian products, I suggest you come to this store. They have everything and so much more. Plus, you get service with a smile! read more

This is one of the worst Indian grocery stores you can find in the Sacramento area. Pricing is not displayed on products. Even if pricing is displayed you will be charged more at the checkout. Recently, I went to this establishment where I purchased a few things. Along with that, I decided purchased some honey. When I came home and opened the lid, I noticed the seal was broken, so I did not use it. The next day I went back to that establishment to return the honey. To my surprise, the owner refused to accept the tampered product. Furthermore, he loudly feuded, "I DO NOT TAKE BACK RETURN ITEMS. HOW DO I KNOW WHO BROKE THE SEAL? I BUY THE STUFF AND PUT IT HERE. IT'S NOT MY FAULT." I eventually ordered him to calm down and told him he will have to do something with the product. Finally he said, "I can do an even exchange." For me it wasn't about the honey, but what was I supposed to do with unusable honey? It wasn't negligence on my part. Second, he over charged me on the even exchanged. honey was 5.99 the other product was 5.99... then why did he take $2 dollars. read more
