Now, while I love me some sushi, I'm a sucker for fried chicken, especially Korean fried chicken.
We've never been here before so with a little free time and some hunger pangs we decided to give Kami a try despite a 5 Guys next door (and I do love me a good burger).
"Walking in first impression", nice, clean and the wonderful aroma of fried chicken and teriyaki! It wasn't crowded and the digital menu was simple, with many choices, but at the same time not overwhelming. As for prices, maybe it's because of the current financial/political environment, but while not the premium prices of a fancy restaurant, I would gauge it at mid to upper mid in prices. In the end though, I would say definitely worth it.
We were greeted by a nice gentleman who was polite, kindly and did not ever made us feel rushed. So we were able to peruse the menu and debate choices with out any pressure.
We put in our order, tofu yakisoba, 10 piece garlic soy Korean fried chicken (choice of 5, 10 and 20 piece), side of fries and a pop. We were told about 15 minutes, which was fine. That said to me that our meal was made to order so hot and fresh. Honestly we didn't know what to expect as this was our first visit. So when the food was served! Oh, the smile on my face. I was caught off guard on the portion and on top of that a wonderful presentation of color and aroma!
The one thing I guess that kinda threw me off was in my mind I was thinking of maybe fried chicken strips so when 10 big fat drumsticks/wings showed up! I was like DAMN! The side of fries was more like a mound and the serving of yakisoba was OUTSTANDING!
As for the taste, HOLE-LEE-FISH! Probably one of the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. Crispy, full of flavor and not just fried chicken with some sauce poured over it like some places do, but nice, marinated and oh so GOOD! There are several other flavors I need to try, but I highly recommend the Soy Garlic.
The tofu yakisoba was made perfect! Not dry, not too saucy, but, perfect! Not to mention flavor, so good! Now I wouldn't order tofu on my own, my wife ordered this dish, but even w/o the protein, this was super TASTEY! Imagine if it was beef, chicken or pork! But you know, the tofu was pretty damn good too!
That, with yakisoba noodles, the crisp vegetables and the sauce, I definitely recommend this dish as well.
As for the French fries, some damn good fries, definitely fresh out of the fryer for sure. Like burn the top of your mouth hot. God I love hot fries. So much better than warm fries or luke-warm to cold fries.
Remember how I mentioned the 15 minute wait, made to order? Yeah, everything was so hot! Fresh off the pan, no sitting around, no waiting, no heat lamps! Definitely worth a bit of a wait for this quality of food.
So needless to say we ended up taking some home, no complaints there. Recommend, unless you are seriously hungry to order the 5 piece chicken if you don't want to share or have left overs. And prepare for family style so sharing is caring. There will definitely be enough to share and go around.
Will be going back to try several other things on the menu for sure!
Kami Fried Chicken and Teriyaki, BIG THUMBS UP!
