I love Aveda salons and I'm desperate to find a Keller stylist so I'm not driving to Fort Worth all the time. I called as a new client and got a late Thursday night appointment. The salon is clean inside, trendy, everyone was nice, and - of course - it smelled good. The stylist and I had a good thorough conversation about my hair before the coloring or cutting started. She was meticulous doing my color, cut and style. My hair looks (and smells) great and after a long day, it was a super relaxing experience. **full disclosure: there was a mix-up with my initial appointment but the salon made it right and I gave them a second chance at a first impression. So, I absolutely love my hairdresser who does not work at Avalon. I had to miss my regular appointment four weeks ago because of my boys' baseball schedules and since then still haven't been able to get in to see her. I'm to the point that I'm using $25 eye brow liner to cover my grey hair and because of my job, I have a new batch of grey hair popping up after every meeting. My criteria was pretty low for a new salon: 1) be open 2) have an available appointment. That's it. Avalon passed with flying colors. Five stars on that front. I wanted an all over color with partial highlights. I feel like this is a typical thing that people ask for so felt no need to elaborate. The receptionist asked if I want foils or some other fancy word. I told him I didn't know what that word means so to go with the foils. (Found out it means hair painting. Stop with the fancy made up words that mean normal things! Although English is my first language, I struggle with it daily. If the word can't be found on a third grade spelling test, don't use it.) When I arrive (late because of my job, shocker) they didn't lecture me about being late (I get that a lot), so extra points there. I review with the hairdresser what I want and at the time did not realize that "highlights with color in between" is not the same as what I wanted. It sounds like it, but in hairdresser it means something completely different. I don't speak hairdresser. So, as she is working on me, I fall asleep. I wake up to foiled hair and half my hair (the hair in-between the foils) colored brown and the rest of my blond hair untouched. While this may be a legit hairstyle for some, it's about as acceptable as me showing up to work with blue hair, a tattoo on my forehead and multiple facial piercings. And, the hairdresser was gone!! So, she eventually came around and I explained the issue. The notes that she had from receptionist said that this was what I wanted (clearly not) and she was unsure about what could be done today since my hair was already processed. She did commit to fixing it before the end of the holiday weekend and at no additional charge. After consulting with the owner, she said that she was going to fix it today. Fantastic. At this point my normal hour and a half appointment was pushing three hours. I was scrambling to find someone to take my son to baseball and leaving with a head of foils wasn't the best option. Plus because of all the issues with the understanding of what I wanted, I felt like I had to clarify everything (which added time) Her: Do you wear bangs? Me: Can you show me what you mean? Her: Do you want me to blowdry your hair? Me: Can you clarify that? I think she was irritated with by all of the questions because being scalped couldn't have hurt more than her combing my hair. I don't know what Aveda product she put in my hair, but I think it was glue and was designed to create more tangles. I almost had her stop so I could a Percocet. Overall, my hair turned out decent. The cost was $110 more than what I pay my regular hairdresser and $90 more than what they quoted me. Will I be back? Maybe if they threw in a bottle of champagne or some Xanax. Probably should be four stars, but giving three because the price paid did not line up with the level of service provided (professionalism, facility, etc) and my heart can't handle the stress. read more

My hair was in serious need of some TLC and Jennifer was just what I needed! She took the time to listen to my concerns with my hair and collaborated with me to create the exact look I wanted! She was kind and gentle and I could tell she really cared about the process as well as the final product. The salon has a great ambiance and calming vibe to it. She's also a genuinely nice person, is extremely efficient, and very thoughtful. She has gone above and beyond for me and her other clients many times. Sitting here waiting for 45 mins now. When I asked the only employee here for the wifi so I could check email on my iPad, she said "yes we have wifi but I don't know the password" she didn't look for it or call someone that would know. Normally not a big deal but the fact I have been sitting here for so long. If my blow out wasn't already paid have I would have left. Totally not happy or impressed. Went to Avalon yesterday for the first time and I was treated like a total celebrity! I'm talking 5 star treatment. They start out with a lovely aromatherapy that smelt like wintergreen, Brittani, my AMAZING hair artist (she is an artist not just a hairdresser) then gives me a soothing shoulder and head massage. It really takes the stress of getting your hair cut somewhere unfamiliar away. She washed my hair and while waiting for the conditioner to soak in she gave me the best hand massage. She asked me how I wanted my hair cut and I really wasn't sure so I asked for her suggestion and she had a great idea and I went with it. No regrets, she did wonderful work! Great conversation,and just a great experience overall! First time clients get $20 off, ummm, hello, why would you not go to Avalon? Thank you Brittani for the top notch service!!!!! read more

Worst experience at a hair salon. Brittany had been my stylist for the past 9 months (I believe she is the owner's daughter) and I had seen her on 2 previous occasions with no complaints. 4 months ago I scheduled my next appt for 1 pm. I called about a month before my appt and asked if I could move it to 1230 to be able to make a 4:30 appt later that day. I was told no problem. About 2 weeks prior to my appt I was asked to move my appt back to 1 but I explained my situation and again they said 12:30 would be fine. I got a call on the morning of my appt but I missed the call and a voicemail wasn't left so I didn't feel the need to call the unknown number back. I show up to my 12:30 appt and 10 min after I get there Brittany tells me she can't see me for at least another hour maybe 2. 1st problem, even if I kept the appt at 1 as originally planned 4 months ago, you're still 30 min to an hour later than you told me. 2nd problem, she said she asked the front desk to call and let me know, however that person never left a voicemail nor called a 2nd time so I was never informed. 3rd problem, she told me the reason she was behind was because the current client asked for more things to be done to their hair. It is unprofessional to accept to perform additional services on a client that takes more time when you have another client scheduled. Brittany offered to get my partial highlight done later in the day, but wouldn't have time for the hair cut I also scheduled. This behavior is ridiculous for a business that is based on customer service. I will never go back to this salon. And I will never have good things to say about Avalon Designs in the future. read more

I've been to Avalon numerous times, booking my appointment with my normal stylist Lena and I've always had a great experience. I admit sometimes I've had to wait but never more than 5-10 minutes when I booked ahead. I also like the fact they repainted and had floors redone to give a great make over the last year...I recommend to all my clients...if you want the best...go to Avalon Designs in Keller :-) read more

And he actually gave his thoughts on a vision and explained it to the point where I felt comfortable and understood. I arrived at 1:25 PM for my 1:30pm appointment with Raven. After waiting for 10 minutes she comes over (she was applying make-up on somebody) and says she is busy and it will be 20 - 30 minutes and do I mind waiting. I scheduled my day around this appointment. This is the second stylist I've had issues with and the people who answer the phone are almost incapable of carrying on a coherent conversation and making an appointment. The lack of professionalism is astounding. If it were possible to give 0 stars, I would have done that. Save your time and money and AVOID this place! read more

I came in for a cut and style. The stylist was super friendly and relatable. She got the idea of what I was looking for in a cut. I expressed I have thick hair and need it to be texturized at the bottom layers to minimize a big chunk of wall of hair shooting off my back. She washed my hair, applied lotion on my hands and moved me over for the cut. I've never seen someone cut my hair so quickly, I thought it was her own technique, something new? She was blowdrying my hair and my neck at the same time. It hurt but I didn't want to embarrass her so I endured it all. Instead of showing me the cut first she went straight into curling it. She showed me how to do beach curls and it was great. I get home and take a look. The front right side had a big chunk taken out of it and the left and right side didn't match up. I became nervous... I looked at the back but couldn't see anything because it was all curled. I washed and dried my hair and looked again. The backside was horrible.. a thin slightly higher layer and a huge chunk of hair coming off my backside like a horizontal wall. I was horrified and had to fly out a day later to California. I had to have an emergency appointment made by my friend's stylist in California to do it all over again. The two stars are only a bump up from the friendliness I received while being there. agree with the poor rating-not only did they mess up my hair-they are extremely unprofessional and don't care! the salon is ran by a mom daughter combo and the mom is about as mature as her teen/young daughter from what I gathered. DO not go here-good chance they will jack your hair up too. These ladies are my hair angels. I am going through treatment and needed my wigs cut. I even took one in that another "stylist" had butchered. Julie and Stephanie fixed them all, and they are fabulous. All of the ladies I met working at the salon are wonderful - very kind and helpful in every way possible.
